I love how you verbalise your thinking , both on leaving on the Sunday giving yourself enough time for contingencies, as well as explaining your alternative airports with a possible low fuel situation. You were always ahead of the plane. Better to take more time safely to bet to your destination than the alternative.
Niko, what a splendid example of ADM and letting ATC know what you need. As a low time VFR pilot working on my Instrument Rating there were quite a few lessons in this video. Thanks for sharing.
You really inspire me Nikki. I just bought my own plane and will be flying to Chicago (my hometown) in the next few weeks. I've been watching fly into the City for a few years now. Seeing this just and hearing you talk about all the hours of flying you have to do really motivated me. Thanks for continuing to make videos.
@@cameroncunningham4520 You got that right, I was filming our flight out to see our great-nephews 1st birthday and we had 3 approach frequency changes on the north side of Nashville, Southwest flew right under us, although it looked closer to the naked eye than on video and a heading change (I think ATC forgot that part) I was so close/high to Lebanon before they switched me, that I ended up crossing midfield and tear-dropping in the pattern…. Once on CTAF they’re were planes everywhere! That’s one busy little airport!!!
I'll never forget something you said a while back in a previous video: "You don't have to be anywhere in aviation, you just have to be safe." I used that line before my PPL flight test when the weather was bad, and my testing officer concurred. Your advice is always sound and flying skills are right up there.
Niko dropping two vids in less than a month is a gem! Good call on diverting! As an engineer, I always appreciate someone explaining their thought process and logic/thinking. Safe flights 122SZ!
Your flight path from Smyrna to Chicago probably brought you close to my neck of the woods. Once you get towards Carbondale area you definitely are close. Good video as always Niko.
A diversion to stay within your personal fuel minimums (and like you mine are higher than legal VFR/IFR minimums) is never a bad idea. Peace of mind and safety first...nice flight Niko!
I made a suggestion for Airport 2M2 Lawrenceburg, tn which would've deviated you just a tad from your IFR, but it's a beautiful spot and would've been way less busy. Glad you made it and Cheers!
I too am at home when I'm in the air flying GA. Great to see how assertive you are with ATC in the essence of safety. Keep it up, I am envious of your plane!
I just subscribed to your channel after watching this. This was a great video. Looking at your video library, I appreciate the content you have/share shows your experiences with emergencies and situations that show not every flight is Point A to Point B for the 100 hamburger. Thanks Niko!👏
In my country, kenya (africa) there's only like a total of 10 airports where you can actually divert and buy AVGAS or JET-A fuel hence for such long flights we'd have to carry fuel onboard with jerrycans coz there's no room to randomly divert for fuel. you guys are lucky up there
Another epic vid Niko, been watching your video's for 2-3 years now, but the conversation between you and ATC still seems to me like another language!. Great stuff, look forward to the next one!..Cheers
Great to see you Niko blessings and travel mercies on your trips as well as your family. Love your videos and they are also educational for me in my simulation flying with my cirrus Sr22 Turbo G3. Love you man big time huge
Hey Niko. Good video as usual!! One thing I noticed is that the Alabama-Tennessee area is not like Florida. When you see yellow in Florida is bad weather. In Tennessee is just a lot of layers of clouds most of the time. So the ride is safe and good. I have done it several times and the first time I was surprised. Not saying that I would do that all the time because I like playing it safe too but sometimes it is not as bad as it looks in the MFD
I buddy how's it going hope you are well and enjoying life to the full. What a brilliant vlog. Nice scenery a part from a few clouds Philip's glad you had no problems safe and happy flying buddy phil.
Don’t know why I keep getting your new posts about 5 days after you upload. Must be a setting I’m missing. In any case, always love to take a ride. Great that you are as busy as it sounds, but I know that can get old fast.
Bowling Green Massacre 😂 But seriously, glad to see you again. So envious of the equipment you young guys have today compared to back in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s working with the weather and kind and accommodating ATC. Blue skies, Niko ✌️
Hey Nicko great video did I here your acquiring, Well to continue on that road what about an upgrade to SZ. like maybe getting the G2 no more canula faster flight times more of a time machine.
Can’t quite justify it yet. The G2 albeit being a bit faster and pressurized, its range is not that great. It’s super expensive, 10x the insurance and maintenance cost, and at the end of the day I will lose the ability to land at hundreds or thousands or small airfields because a) too short of a runway b) no jet fuel available. See my point?
Great to see you back in the hot seat my friend but I am getting worried as you mention you have a few boats.....Noooooooooo you need more planes and NO more boats.......🤣🤣
Was looking at the FAQ's and that G6 is a little over four years now, damn time flies! That has to be close to fully depreciated, any plans for new one, maybe the jet?
I fully depreciated it in year 1 and it did amazing for my taxes. Unfortunately the depreciation program is being eliminated and will soon go away. No plans at this time for a replacement.
Nice to see someone in GA choosing a small inconvenience over fuel starvation, it is baffling how many have perished for no reason. Also, I think KBWG is KY, not IN.
Great vid. I like your flights above 15000 ft. 🙂You should be an instructor. SR22T is amazing. Your videos never get boring. Stay safe in the air Niko.
I love your videos and I also know how much time goes into video editing (I own a marketing firm) - I would just encourage you to not be afraid to let the videos "drag on" a little. Now if you want to make them short, then you go for it but for aviation fans like myself, we'll gladly sit and watch longer form videos. Just a thought, appreciate you sharing your talents and time making these videos.
So glad you are posting videos again. It's crazy that this is just a hobby for you but the videos come out so great. I'm sure other people are curious too but how many hours do you have?
@@NikosWings I’m a captain at a regional right now with a little over 3000 hours and I must say your decision making is awesome. In my case, I have a set of rules I have to follow so I don’t really get to be creative and most of the decisions are made for me by a dispatcher before we even pushback. Seeing you takeoff with plan A, B, C, and probably D, never gets old and in the long run it keeps you alive. I learn a lot from these videos. Thank you for sharing.
The correct call to ATC is to declare "minimum fuel." Saying, "I'm just playing it safe," means nothing. Proper communication in a situation like this is crucial. Ambiguity in communication is a threat! TEM is at the core of good airmanship.
I did not have minimum fuel buddy and as long as in my mind it was communicated that’s all I needed. Keep in mind that ATC doesn’t matter as much, you are the boss for your flight and you demand what you want. The buck ends with you not ATC.
Great video. It seems like mother nature has a thing for keeping pilots on their toes. Do you mind if I put meeting, (and if it's not too much to ask,) flying with you some day on my bucket list? I'm not a pilot, being born with low vision kind of ruined that dream, I just love to fly. Thanks for sharing.
Real fun Niko as usual was the brief glimpse of that cat , the same one you once collected as a kitten. Some music tit bits . Did I hear a tiny bit of ZZ Top in your soundtrack.
