I have not forgotten my first lesson and it was in 1978! No GPS, no Foreflight and no Internet back then. I felt completely overloaded after the first lesson because it was the first time I ever had to think about controlling a "vehicle" in 3 dimensions. I thought I'd never figure it out, yet six months later I had my PPL. So good luck @Andrew Gunawan, you're in for a great part of your life!
Hypoxia is nothing to play with. Very serious and sneaky stuff. By the time you figure it out it's usually too late if you don't know the symptoms. Great video and lesson for pilots.

My contribution to the restaurant guide is that North Las Vegas airport diner (Sunshine and Tailwinds Cafe) is AWESOME. Great food, great people, overview of the (often very) active runway, window seats, etc.
Just a bit of convection on this day. it amazes me how far situational awareness has come from modern technology. This Garmin panels are gorgeous and the in cockpit weather is amazing even with the delay. Good stuff.
Just completed my check ride on the 2018 SR22T after training for 3 months. Working on my IFR now. I cannot begin to thank Niko enough for sharing his experiences and information especially the avionics since it is the same system.

@@NikosWings Once you start reading the effects of hypoxia on the brain like neural plasticity etc. you may start using O2 below 10k. There are some long term health effects out there that don't make it into the pilot literature. Even a 3 hr @10k flight can affect your decision making during descent and landing. Just the higher heart rate alone tires your body. Conversely, intermittent short term hypoxia treatments actually strengthen the body, but these are like 1 min intervals. Fascinating subject.
@@francisschweitzer8431 they were simply at the upper limits of altitude tolerance. Some people handle it differently than others, there is no magic number.

I started lesson with Summer Martell in Port Townsend, WA, she was soo amazing! When we were done she would do Aerobatics. When you finished your lic she would take you up in her Fathers old biplane. Sadly at the time I couldn’t afford to finish. I am working on it now. I am a paraglider as well. Be awesome to come to OshKosh and say hi to you all at some point. Your channel has reignited my interest… the Med is why I held off so long. If I can’t pass that then Sport it is.

Not a pilot, but I’ve been enjoying your videos since discovering them. I live on the Olympic Peninsula in Port Townsend for 16 years now. Gorgeous countryside. Grew up in Chicago and am loving when you fly into Executive, as I can identify land marks from my all my commercial flights home. In October the plane needed to circle Midway out over the lake at night. It was the best night sightseeing in all my years of flying. All that to say thank you Niko! Your taste in music is excellent...

Just reminding (not you, Niko, but generally): You need experience with lack of oxygen in emergency situations... It hits your ability to make decisions, that's fatal. When in doubt, ALWAYS take oxygen if available. Too much is also bad, but in aviation more is better.

I've noticed that you like to use the same airports when you travel in certain directions. I like to try to find a different airport every time. To each his own. I like to see different places and meet different people. Amendment--I just got to your comment about going to different airports and putting together an airport food guide

1962-1972 the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM) was built here in Long Island NY by Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage NY. It was the first spacecraft they ever built, and served as a life boat during the Apollo 13 emergency. One is on display at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City Long Island NY.

Asthma sucks, I had an asthma attack in the summer due to being out of shape and playing beach volleyball hard and I feel you brother. Asthma is horrible....
@@NikosWings - For sure. Not too much worse out there than not being able to breathe. For the past 19 years it's been under control pretty well. Spent many years on the wrong medication, and a brief period on some new medication that almost killed me several times. I try not to let it slow me down, but sometimes it will. Just something I have to deal with - not much I can do, other than stay away from cigarettes and take the inhalers.
Flying back from the Grand Canyon my skyhawk started climbing . It was Jan . very cold , clear sky . Nice and warm inside the plane , we just had a snack . We started at 8,500 , as the plane passed through 13,500 I was talking to my pass . with no response . All numbers were very good , nearing 14 K I realized I was talking to myself . A quick scan showed me all were passed out . So with some carb heat and put the nose down on a gentle decent they came back around . I was fine , flew on into Messa Ari . The next day to fly back to Monroe Louisiana , that is another story .
Are you sure you were talking? Don’t be surprised if it was your imagination... and I’m being serious, the thing with hypoxia is that the brain only knows what it knows and is not self aware of its lack of cognitive function...
I was just talking with my boss about making an app for airport restaurants, visiting little airports and finding good restaurants is one of the great things about aviation.

Niko, when did you touch down on Mackinac Island? We departed Appleton, WI on 26 July. That was a Friday; after a week at Osh. After posting my "Flying to Mackinac Island" video today. I reviewed it and after watching this video.........there was a silver SR22T sitting on the back row of the ramp on MCD........I couldn't see the tail number but sure had a striking resemblance to Miss Athena. Great vid to Chi town. Looking forward to your Mackinac episode.

Doing Icarus flights with a young child in the back seems kinda irresponsible to me. Kid could have been out for 5 minutes and you'd have no idea.

Seems that cleaning some of the cowling ground contacts may have fixed the issue.

Are you sure you were talking? Don’t be surprised if it was your imagination... and I’m being serious, the thing with hypoxia is that the brain only knows what it knows and is not self aware of its lack of cognitive function...

Niko, when did you touch down on Mackinac Island? We departed Appleton, WI on 26 July. That was a Friday; after a week at Osh. After posting my "Flying to Mackinac Island" video today. I reviewed it and after watching this video.........there was a silver SR22T sitting on the back row of the ramp on MCD........I couldn't see the tail number but sure had a striking resemblance to Miss Athena. Great vid to Chi town. Looking forward to your Mackinac episode.
