I was the controller working him. When he cancelled, I was worried to be honest. He obviously was low on fuel and there was a ton of precip and I just hoped he would be ok. I've been on the scope when this didn't work out before. As a pilot also, I understood the lower you get the better you can really see what is happening with the rain so I understood the thought process. Still made me nervous watching him get in. Glad all worked out well.
T. West You guys are great flew from Kansas to the Bahamas last year in our Bahamas or Bust series and I haven’t flown in busy airspace before and y’all were very patient with me, but I finally got it together!!!!!
I love seeing you get disappointed in yourself, because you're such a strong and stand up person. Rather than becoming insecure, you take it head on and learn from it. That humility, in a nutshell, is why I love your channel so much.
The classic pilot saying comes to mind... ”it’s better to be on the ground wishing you are flying, than flying wishing you were on the ground”. 😁 Good work!
The editing was amazing, i can only imagine how much effort goes into recording and editing with music synced with the video, many quick shots that reveal important little details (for a person like me who notices everything) and multiple angles from the aircraft itself, timelapses, the way rain gets blown off the windshield, and adrenaline trying to figure out whats the best thing to do in such situation. Keep up the good work sir.
Those kind of lessons are good to learn. Glad to see you saw it and can be a better, safer pilot for more flights to come. Weather like that is always stressful.
Fantastic video Niko, the production standard of your videos is absolutely incredible and it must take a huge amount of time to get all the different shots that you get to make the video so entertaining, nevermind the amount of editing you have to do to cut it all together! Clearly a man of many talents!
I love seeing competent pilots getting the windshield wet on single engine planes. (I rarely do)Thanks for having me along and well done, once again! Inspiring honestly
To make a mistake is fine, to acknowledge you made one and learn from it makes you a much better pilot, no matter how much time you have. Well done sir!
I love watching this channel so much. It’s relaxing. I think because it’s so real. No made up fake missions. This channel brings reality to flying. Really inspiring. I often have it playing on a screen in the background it’s perfect for that. Niko, you’re doing a fantastic job editing and producing. Keep going! I’m a fan.
Mr. T. West, I shared the video w/other peers that have heavy experience. Each one came up w/same opin. Your concern & careful evaluation of the situation was critical. As you know how volatile meteorological conditions are and can change not in minutes, but in seconds!!! With conditions The way they were, it made for "not" just an average day at the office!! When I observed this video, it immediately grab me in my gut. I know what it feels like to be running out of time and wiggle room!! The elements can be so unforgiving! My friends all suggested in agreement that you should receive a commendation for your actions. I salute you sir, you are truly a professional of the highest caliber!!

Glad you made it. I always think in terms of factors...fuel, weather, diversions, and personal factors...you did a great job threading the needle...and the fact you learned from this not to let those factors build up means you're now a safer pilot...great job!
Thanks Niko for showing this. I am sure there are plenty of back seat driver comments. But it helps us all learn how even the most experienced of us can be trapped into a particular objective and get so focused on it. Keep your options open and have several plans B, C, D .... You are a great pilot that really uses that G6 to it’s maximum capabilities; I learn a lot from your videos.
Your production skills are on par with your flying, which makes these videos really enjoyable to watch. Plus I used to live in Chicago and Florida, so I love seeing you fly over my old homes.
I'm a 150 hour new pilot out on the west coast. I was literally sweating watching your footage. I think videos like this will save someone's life seeing how complicated it is trying to navigate weather even with some of the best tech (plane/avionics) general aviation has to offer.

Wow, great job controllers and great job Niko. I know you're a very experienced IFR pilot, but this still made me clinch a bit. I always learn something new when watching, thanks for sharing! Also getting super Cinematic with the intros! Very nice!
Yeah that was a heck of a flight. That vlog was like a high intensity movie that you don't want to miss one moment of. Nice work! My palms were sweaty I think. Glad you lived to fly another day ! Thanks for sharing !
As a pilot working on my commercial and just finished up instrument 3 months ago I love to use your videos for an example of circumnavigating. One of the main safety procedures at my flight school is we are not allowed to fly in convective sigmets, even though you could possibly circumnavigate most of the storm for example we are still not allowed to do so. However this is a great safety practice at the school to prevent incidents or accidents, I wish I was able to really have gotten the full aspect of flying IFR, however with your videos and watching you talk with atc and help one another make decisions to make successful completion of the flight this has helped me better understand a little bit into the world of IFR. And fortunately when I become a CFI next semester I will for sure show students some of your videos to use as examples of flying and decision making also known as ADM of course :)
Make sure you stay far from them and get a good understanding of how they work. Use all the tools to your advantage and play it safe. Remember that NEXRAD is delayed so you just be very good at projecting into the future. These things move fast.
Awesome video! I learn so much from your videos! You think of all your options like playing a game of chess! This shows how professional you are and how you respect Mother Nature! You respect the weather and the explanations with the delays on your radar returns in comparison to what you are actually seeing is super! I haven’t watched one video from you that I didn’t pick up useful information! Stay safe and looking forward for more to come.
