I was born in Johannesburg and was last there in 2001. I now live in Auckland, New Zealand. After watching your superb RUclips video of Sandton, I am filled with nostalgia for the beautiful country: South Africa. The crisp, clear and dry Highveld air is almost palpable in your film. I knew Sandton quite well when I last spent time living in Johannesburg in the late 90s. Now, I didn't recognize anything! Clearly, a tremendous amount of money has been poured into the stunning buildings. The architecture is magnificent and absolutely 21st century. A few months ago I visited Sydney in Australia, a definite global "world class" city. Yet aspects of Sandton seem equal, perhaps even superior! South Africans can be proud of Sandton as it represents a great achievement and indeed a beacon of what a non-racist, harmonious South Africa can show the world. Thank you Paul for your most appreciated video. ( I know this is a big ask, but your talents producing a video of Cape Town, Camps Bay, Rondebosch and the coastal road - with the mountains, ocean and electric rail line - down to Simon's Town, would be spectacular.) Elias Blechman
Despite the impressive, glitzy buildings featured in the video, we do not see too many people out in the streets enjoying the clear and dry highveld air. There is no "main street Sandton." The video features what is essentially today's financial and business hub of South Africa. It does not feature the surrounding vast residential suburbs - Bryanston, Sandown, Rivonia, Morningside et al - that have all become intensely fortified ghettoes for their affluent inhabitants. Sandton has morphed into a city built on fear. The original financial and shopping hub of South Africa was centered in what was once referred to as the Johannesburg CBD - "downtown" to Americans - with its canyons of office buildings along Commissioner, Harrison, Loveday and Simmons Streets, busting stores along streets once named Eloff, Joubert, Rissik, Kerk, Jeppe, Plein, Pritchard, Von Brandis, Fox and Main. The johannesburg Stock Exchange on Diagonal Street was then an icon of the country's financial power. People of all ethnicities thronged in that CBD in relative safety. After the collapse of apartheid and the disbanding of the South African Police, a vacuum in law and order resulted in massive "white flight, " a massive relocation of finance and business to Sandton, where security was emphasized and where people could shop and park safely. That soon became trend all over South Africa and continues to this day, even as malls of that kind have lost favor in much of the western world, especially in the USA. All major shopping and other business in South Africa today is conducted indoors, despite the country's abundant sunshine and bracing air. A pity.

I don't suggest you party to hard in the city, your chances of getting mugged, robbed or drugged, especially if you a woman are quite high, I mean Long Street, should be renamed Mug Central ."Always travel is groups" Than let's not even talk about the racism, segregation and inequality. "The other Cape Town" - I love Cape Town, I live here. Just like Jo'burg it's an incredible African city with major unresolved issues.
Both places are beautiful
Wow modern city 👍 , love from Indonesia 🇮🇩
Shows are pothetic social media is, dont look like starving people to me. It looks like south Florida
SARISS80 LMAO I hope you’re joking. Other parts of Africa are starving

Hey. What car are you driving? Sounds like BMW 320d.
I actually thought it’s the E48 320i
If you’re a BMW fan you’ll recognize the indicators
I’m a Johannesburg Native, I’ve been around the country but nothing beats Jhb maybe Camps Bay
...and Cape Town!
Mike
What’s your favorite town in Cape Town?
Camps bay is naturally nice but development JHB is crazy
I'm a Camps Bayan & yes we beat JHB mate. You lot lack a beach!
Durban's nice too, particularly the Northern beaches but also the harbour area & stadiums.
Awesome video! I really enjoyed it! Could you please make one for Bryanston? I live there. I just wanna see how it would look.
Thanks Paul! You're so kind! William Nicol from around Republic rd and right into Bryanston drive down to where Riverside shopping center and Tiger's milk are, and around the circle, you can also do a bit of River club if possible. From the beginning of Grosvenor until you turn left into Dover rd, that's my street. If you have time, you can continue to Bryanston west and do a few roads, especially Grosvenor and Bryanston drive.
You live there and you dont know what it looks like? What are you? Blind?
I thought this was Australia so modernized
so you guys are saying that this city is in africa? you won't find such cities in eastern europe
mikiyas wendu Media will never show you the beaut of Africa
This city was created by Europeans
@@BRAVESllllll1995 🤣 Sandton was built by black after apartheid you clown
@@BRAVESllllll1995 why must you people always bring in ethnicity & 'race' unnecessarily. We should remember & acknowledge the past but focus on building, especially building each other, voluntarily, as brothers in humanity & hopefully in Christ.
Johannesburg South Africa
4:51 Wow, very beautiful buildings
Devoured by Hallyu It’s marvelous

@@PMDRIVE1 great video & definitely!! Maybe entering north from the M1 highway with the skyline view.
@@PMDRIVE1 paul please we would like to see a night drive through of sandton! Please man! That would be specteculous!!
I spent 20 years working on mainly the video conferencing infrastructure of this area , this is where all the corporate HQ's reside . Its all very "first world" . All the corporate HQ's have subsidized canteens , I sure enjoyed the food and even planned my days so that I would be in the best canteen around lunch time . (Thanks Nedbank :-) ) I did get tired of the weekday traffic , maybe I just got old . So long and thanks for all the fish .
Clean and modern city. Cleaner that Mexico less traffic. Special day ? Seems to be very nice. I like the vegetation.
Amazing South Africa
Home,where the heart is❤️
Is this really Johannesburg? I had very positive disappointment. I thought its much worse.
Yes is really Johannesburg!!
How did you get so stable video. I have tried many things but not so stable as yours. Please let me know. Thx
Lovely vid. Would have been better if there were some commentary especially for those of us who do not know Sandton. That is, what are the names of the areas you are driving through?
Sandton also is the new CBD of the City of Johannesburg infect it's the CBD of Gauteng. Really amazing buildings these takes ur breathe away.
@Jean Tredoux I think you clicked on the wrong video. The far right videos are somewhere else.
May God bless sa
very good video about the road in south africa
Still wondering where us South Africans take old cars because all I see here is just modern cars.
@Christopher Walker Thank you very much
did you stick you camera at the bottom bumper of your car? how did you get it to film from such a low angel and what camera did you use?
i was last here 12 years ago.....after living there (in joburg) for 10 years
Late Sunday afternoon drive. Monday traffic bumper to bumper going no where fast. LOL👍
Por favor. Yo no se como llegué hasta aquí, pero me enamoré. Qué paraíso es este. Que hermosura. Tan impecable, limpia y verde. Espectacular. Dios bendiga a sus habitantes rica y abundantemente. Ojalá un día mi Dios amado me permita conocerla. Super lindaaaaa
One advice is give a lot of you guys who make driving video, just invest a little bit into getting someone to colour grade your video, it would make your videos so look much more beautiful it would like you were driving in a different country. Just have someone colour grade and edit your videos a bit and I promise you'll never regret it
I love my city my city yeah ❤✌
I love JHB and always will! There is bad stuff and and people all over the world. Remember that the grass is greener wherever you water it.
Someone with a link to most leafy urban locations in SA vedios pliz
he short a video on Sunday, and what he did was little job, he must come to me because I worked as a courier driver and I'll teach him the places of Sandton jhb with its locations or suburbs
Take a video and post bathong 😅 get cash
This is amazing. Johannesburg still looks good. I thought I’d be seeing people in bullet proof vests getting away from skinny little guys with guns.
lol😂

Trust me South Africa does not have that much shootings. I barely know anyone who owns a gun
