    I'm back in this game after a looonnng break. This time my goal is variety. I've never played a game over 6 weeks straight without burnout, so that's just me. I just bought the small field right across from the sawmill and planted trees, and I plan to do cows and maybe sheep. I'm definitely going to add this to my mix. Thanks!

    With the Kuhn FBP 3135, I take straw up to 96% full then go hit a line of cut grass that was pre-prepped and rowed out. With the wrapper on, you get silage out of straw. Both are junk and both are basically free. So I guess you can do the same without the Kuhn pack by having a separate wrapper and both simply take a bit more time.

    Hi Arthur, I do not post a lot of comments, even though I watch your channel frequently. But every once in a while, when I get bored with my life I need to get once your nerves. So, my substitute-you-tube-daddy just to force you to spend a few more hours on this topic: further down the production chain...is animal husbandry worth the effort? If you put into the calculation not only the crops but the investment in machinery and animals, where is the break even point? Is there for example any point in feeding silage?
    (besides we just do it for fun anyways)

      only if it is grass you planted

    • @SadMarinersFan
      @SadMarinersFan 6 лет назад

      bck318 you need to fertilize grass you planted, and also wait for it to get to the second growth stage for the best yield. With natural grass, you can't fertilize it for extra yield, so just wait for it to get to the second growth stage.

    • @clefsan
      @clefsan 6 лет назад

      you may need to fertilize it to increase the yield, not sure about that, but it grows back well enough without doing so, which means not fertilizing saves you work and may still save you money, depending on how much difference there is between yields.

  • @Baerenpapa007

    Getting money for the start: On a new map, I usually do the gold-nugget-hunt first, sell any crop in the silo, get the maximum kredit and buy a wind-energy-plant from that. Next I go on "holidays": Set the time-lapse to the max and let it go for some (game-) weeks or I go on a mission-trip and working on every field the map offers.
    You mentioned the train delivery: Have you ever tried dumping your tractor trailer into the train bin (you should definitely do that at the sawmill ;) and what I like with the train at Goldcrest: you can use the train station as additional crop storage ;)
    You missed out doing grass-silage for the biogas plant! You don't have to have expensive equipment for doing grass-silage in the silo. Especially if you play on a map where you have a BGP sellpoint on your Farm (like it is on Drumard Farm - the very best map if you are just starting to play FS17, because it is completely equipped! Every machine you would think of starting a farm you already get at start - and everything is unused. Just buy your animals or energy plant(s) and start farming!) you can make money almost like in FS15 (at least on the PS4 version of the game). The Price for BGP-Silage fluctuates on easy at Drumard Farm between 2.000 and 3.5000 per 1.000 litres (that makes 8.000 to 14.000 credis for silage-bale equivalent!!!). So if you dump your silage silo with usually I fill it up to 750.000 litres of chaff, you get between 1,5 and 2,2 million Credits for each harvesting round (great demands not included in this calculation).

      wind energy is a waste of money.
      bees hands down make the most passive cash

    • @Baerenpapa007
      @Baerenpapa007 7 лет назад

      really?!? the bees??? I can't believe that: Let's say I have 2.400.000 Cr to spend. I buy a wind power plant for 1.200.000 Cr. and I buy 60 bee houses (20.000 Cr each) for 1.200.000 Cr. The wind plant will provide 500 bucks an hour and will cost 50 Cr. a day. The bee houses would provide 60 times 8 Cr./hour equals 480 Cr. per hour and will have a runtime cost of 60 times 8Cr/day equals 480 Cr. a day. So the bees do not provide as much income as the windenergyplant and over the top they have almost 10 times the runtime costs (the amount of space for placing them all not included in this calculation). Knowing that, I really can't see, how the bees could make better than the wep?
      All prices where taken from Giants Islands Map played on hard on the PS4 Version.

    My CASH CROP is grass, and wrapped to make Silage. Now Silage is fermented hay. But if making Silage out of grass you don't need to tedder it to make hay first. The moisture of the long grass will help with the breakdown as it ferments. So in short, cut the grass, windrow it and bale and wrap it. I use the Nadel R90 Telescopic Front end Windrower with the Krone 155 bale wrapper. As an example I was running 5 fields on a map. I was running wheat. Selling it for the best price and baling the straw and selling that. My net from both was about $250K. But when I made Silage from those same 5 fields I made over $535K. now, with a regular crop like wheat you have to cultivate it, fertilize, fertilize, and fertilize. With a plow every 3rd harvest. But with grass after it's been planted and you harvest it. It will already have the 1st level of fertilization, and you can give it the second on the day of the harvest. You then give it the 3rd fertilization the following day and harvest again the nest day. it's a quick rotation and a great cash crop. I've only done one video on this game and that was a week or so ago. And I explain my cash crop, and that same money cheat in detail.
    At one time on another save game I had 6 crews at one time and making over $2.5 million per harvest. It was too much to handle.
    Great video though sir, appreciate.
    GRASS!!!
    Another example, if you bale grass and sell it I was getting $440 bucks a bale. BUT,... and it was a BIG BUT,.... When I wrapped that same bale it was worth $2649 bucks per bale. That is my cash crop. The amount you get will vary per map. but it's a great go to Cash Crop.
    by the way, I commented at the beginning of this video. I have yet to see what you've named your cash crop. So hopefully were both on the same page in the end.
    Ding! Order up!
    Yeah, you'd like my setup, come over and watch the end portion of my vid and see my setup.

    The other thing about silage is if you use the right tools and the silage compactor silos, you can make vast, huge amounts of silage... Then just conveyor belt it into the bin and make a fortune... Even more so if you use the BGA Hopper 17 mod, which freezes the price for as long as there is silage in the bin, so you don't get price drops between dumps if you're using a loader bucket or switching the conveyor belts between silos. Yes it's more work than a crop you can sell direct from the field, but the payoff is far greater...
    (link to the BGA mod: www.fs-uk.com/mods/view/38723/bga-hopper-17)

    • @kingarthursims
      @kingarthursims  6 лет назад

      I agree, though I wouldn't have included it here, because I was trying to go with the default game. Locking the economy, or at least slowing it down would make a huge difference. It would be a lot more like making silage in 15 :)

  • @neilharbott8394
    @neilharbott8394 7 лет назад +2

    Interesting stuff - I notice you didn't take into account the seed usage for wheat and soybeans, there may be something there to increase the profit of soy due to the lower seed requirement. Obviously grass product is going to be more valuable over time as you don't have to replant it every season. But then as you pointed out grass is a lot more work and (maybe) less frequent yield (you still have to prepare fields and sow for the grains).
    But also when actually playing, soy is seen as "easier" - because I have to unload the harvester less frequently, and 1 truck load is more "value". I may be able to sell all my soy in 1 truck load, but with wheat I will either take a hit on the second load, OR have to wait a few days for the price to recover.
    Personally I like to sell my silage bales at the biogas plant because digestate = free fertilizer, and on some of the maps I play silage bales are also constant price, where loose silage does vary.
    And finally... how does all this compare to the value of logs if you planted trees on that field? :)

    • @kingarthursims
      @kingarthursims  7 лет назад

      Oh man - the log thing - If you planted that whole field with lumber, it would win, as each full grown tree is about $1500 bucks or higher.

  • @asmrhead1560
    @asmrhead1560 7 лет назад

    The thing is, you can't do hired help for most of what is needed for grass mowing + baling + wrapping. You can get a little help with FollowMe but that's it. So abusing wrapped bale sileage price stability is good in the early game but once you get tired of being a "one man band", doing all the work yourself and listening to that god awful bale wrapper sound over and over you can earn more money per in-game hour with real crops and hired help via multiple harvesters.
    In reality with FS17 the BEST crop is the one you have in your storage bins when the market price spikes. If you're still living hand to mouth (or rather field to sell point) then you can focus on profitability metrics like yield per seed amount or yield per acre but once you have a buffer just keep a good supply of everything in your storage for when it comes time to sell.

      lol - there are two seeders types in the game. One that does wheat, barely, grass, Sunflower seeds, canola, oilseed radish, and soybeans and the other type does Corn, Sugar Beets, oilseed radish and soybeans. So you need to pick the seeder that you want, depending on what you are planning on growing. Then you fill it with seed. Seed in FS17 is generic, so you just load "seed" into the machine. Once its loaded, select the seeder, and then select the type of seed you want to plant - you will see the indicator on the bottom right change as you cycle through seed types. Does that make sense?

    How to question dude how do you make money without mods on Farming Simulator 17 without mods and without money makers like full of panels with Beehives windmills and harvesting crops that is one of my questions

    • @kingarthursims
      @kingarthursims  Год назад

      The easiest way to make decent money in FS17 without cheating - plant grass on all your fields. Mow, bale wrap and make silage. Sell the silage bales. Silage Bales prices NEVER GO DOWN, so you will always get full pay for them. Also, grass only has to be planted once AND from then on you only have to mow. Now this will get boring, so once you have made some good money you can buy big fields and get big equipment and go back to regular farming. Also, definitely do the gold hunt on Goldcrest. When you find the first 10 gold peices the remaining 90 will show up on the map and you can find them easily. Its worth a million dollars.

I use the Black Sheep trailer and sell 140,000 all for what ever the price is. You unhook one with the dolly still attached and while it’s unloading you back up and unload the other one. Can work with up to 4 of these with two trucks

It doesn't mean you are getting the highest price, just a fixed price so its very different than 15.

    im not sure that it is a crop since in fs15 silage was best by far but u said that silage/bales/grass/hay dont qualify as a crop i watched this vid to find out what the best crop was not to find out what i already know which is silage is overpowered , but as a long time subscriber and viewer good video for the purpose it was intended for .

    • @kingarthursims
      @kingarthursims  7 лет назад

      Exactly - except for one change - what makes 17 different that 15 when it comes to crops is that grass is no longer free. You have to plant it and use up a field on most maps, so there is a cost to using it. That makes silage a bit less cheaty, and it also makes it more of a "crop" than it used to be. But with any other commodity, there really is no winner because prices fluctuate.

      I don't think it matters - as long as you sell at the barn the price remains the same - 50,000 tonnes of straw is 50,000 tonnes, weather its loose or baled. That would make a good test though.

    There is a hybrid scenario with a greater yield which works when fields are bordered by grass. Grow wheat or barley in the field and mow the grass around the border of the field. You only need a small border so 1 run with a basic mower like the Novacat 301 is perfect, no need to windrow. Harvest the crop as normal, enabling straw swath. Collect the straw with a round baler, ideally the Kuhn FBP 3135. When you get close to completing a bale (90-95%) stop collecting straw and fill up with grass, thus making it a bale which can be made into silage. End result you get some crop for selling or feeding pigs plus you get the massive yield from the silage bales. It may seem a bit of a grind but no more than just grass fields, especially when using the stand-alone bale wrapper. Using the yield and price figures from the video, and a very conservative use of grass (for 12 bales), this method would have returned $49,533. I usually get an extra few bales from the remaining grass not collected during the process so that figure can easily rise.

    Hello mr Arthur I am a big fan of you, i love the way you are making FS videos and i can honestley say you are my favorit author/vloger.I have a quastion. I saw wich is the most valuable crop my question is wich is the best way to obtain full crop from your field? it is better to turn on plow + 3 time fertil or cheat and turn off. do you obtain the same quantity of crop? my method is: I use zuhammer18,5 pud + zuhammer zuni disc and after this I cultivate I skip plowing plus two fertilization steps. I hope you understed me, sorry for my grammar, English is not my mother tongue.Big hug from Romania.

    • @kingarthursims
      @kingarthursims  6 лет назад

      Glad to hear you are enjoying the videos - Plowing needs to happen every 3 crops and then you need to mix and match any 3 types of fertilizer/weeding/spraying. Once you have done both of those things, you will have the same exact yield as if you turned the settings off in the menu.

      Realism. in reality you aren't spraying fertilizer, you are spraying insecticides and fungicides. If you want to play it with any realism (it is a sim after all) you want to put down manure or slurry after harvesting, put down solid fertilizer after the first stage of growth, and then spray after the 2nd stage. You could sub in weeding or oilseed radish for one of those steps.

    Anyone spending the time to cut grass then row it is wasting time... 1 plant a field of grass 2 (optional) fertilize 3 use forage harvester to cut it (YOU CAN HIRE A WORKER FOR THIS) 4 grass should be in a tipper of some kind at this point 5 set cruise control to 4-7 mph and dump the grass in a long straight line 6 bale/wrap right down the line. This also works for hay... just ted the line then bale/pickup.

    Hey, Arthur, I'm new to your channel; been watching for about a week or so, mostly FS15 (bc recently dld it on XB1 for free til June), but have watched some of your tutorials and whatnot of FS17 (Gamefly's sending that one). Anywho, here's a question. What's better between, say, Silage as a fast money-maker, or buying sheep, and selling wool pallets? In other words, which one would be more profitable there. I would think sheep bc they multiply, but I could be wrong. Okay, God bless.

    • @kingarthursims
      @kingarthursims  6 лет назад

      haha - Silage bales hands down. The market price never drops - do silage bales, buy a bunch of sheep and do more silage. The sheep will provide even more income on the side, but honestly, nothing pays out like silage bales.

      I've been there several times, I remember lots of cornfields, then if you're on route 303 or the turnpike, a massive allegheny plateau comes outta nowhere. 5/5 stars. A long time ago I rode my bike through from Adrian, Mi to Pittsburgh. That took me 7 days. Only place I didn't like, and this was another occasion being in the state was Lima. I would play on a map if they made it based on Ohio! I'm going to probably revisit because Its on the way to the northeast. I have this crazy idea to visit all 40 states and all I have left are Rhode Island and CT (aside from Alaska and Hawaii). Random question for you, have you heard of Rolling Acres Mall? Oh, and an actual game-related question, you could get away with turning corn into chaff and get the same results right? oh but then.. biogas plant. yeah. And I play with Seasons mod.

    • @kingarthursims
      @kingarthursims  6 лет назад

      lol - I live in Medina, just about 45 minutes west of Rolling Acres Mall. Yeah and I agree about Lima - Been there once because of work. Wouldn't go there otherwise lol. A good "Ohioesque map is "county line" Its about as close to mid Ohio as I have seen. Even the roads look "Ohio Country". Technically bale wrapping is the best because bale prices never fluctuate. So as you dump corn silage, the amount you earn goes down and down and down until you don't earn much at all. But if you use silage bales, they will pay the same every time, no matter how much you put in. You can also sell them at the BG to make digestate for fertilizer.
