    So to recap: Van Gisbergen has never driven a NASCAR, new team / Crew Chief / learns the terminology and rules for NASCAR, has to drive on the other side of the car, opposite feet for the pedals and has to shift with the other hand. Soaking wet conditions for a lot of the race, then puts the hammer down and drives it to the front and the WIN! Bravo sir, bravo. 👏

    • @dextermchaze
      @dextermchaze Год назад +47

      He was absolutely fantastic, however the pedals are the same in both left and righthand drive. It's the seating position and the hand he's shifting with that are different. Which is still crazy.

      Amazing talented driver for sure, but there is nothing that can take the place of EXPERIENCE and confidence. As a winner of 80+ races and 2x Champion, and with nothing to lose as it was his first race, he gave it his all. . . . but it starts with pure talent and racing ability, and that he has.

    • @esciteach7997
      @esciteach7997 Год назад

      not necessarily. Indy-F1 - Nascar each have their own style of driving, pedals, etc. Doesn't make it mediocre. Over 100 penalties were given out in F1 today for "going too far over the curbs." (and changed the order of finish.) Glad Indy and Nascar don't have that nonsense. Not "mediocre" just different.

But my point is that he stepped in and showed them a major technique to be used in their own cars that’s been around for decades in every other type of three-pedal racing. Ayrton Senna has a cool video of him demonstrating this while wearing dress shoes driving an NSX around Laguna Seca. They’re so stuck in their ways they never bothered to think about how other series are better and more diverse with these kinds of techniques.

    Happy to see an outsider come in and put on a show like this. Would have like to see what would have happened if NASCAR didn't have to change the length of the race due to weather/lack of light. That change during the race really through a wrench into things, but still happy that SVG won the race 👍👏🏆

      Wouldnt have mattered if he didnt. His heel and toe technique saves tyres. He races street circuits all the time and they are demanding on tyre wear so the V8 Super car guys know how to preserve them.

    Burton butchered Van Gisbergen’s name so bad near the end he just stopped talking! JR kept calling him Gisbergen leaving out the Van 95% of the time, Rick just continues to repeat what others say, every time. A couple times he tried to go out on his own to start talking about something and would just not finish sentences….! I lover the NBC broadcast but Rick has to go. Give it to Jr and let Parker go in the booth. Really impressed with the racing for a street course. Lots of action!

      Rick was fine as every time Burton SCREAMED something, which was every comment, Rick was there with a smooth, understandable comment himself. We have to mute the TV b/c of Burton's screaming.

    Can we just agree that everyone who hated this race is just set in their old ways and the "if you aint turning left, that aint right" mentality is outdated? I've been a Nascar fan for over 30 years and that street race was one of the best races I've ever seen. SVG kicked A$$ and took names, plain and simple. And yes they do have NASCAR in Australia, and they apprently drive the wrong way 😂.
