its me mario wow this actually made me rly sad, I think because He is one of my childhood heroes and your thoughts could be real. sorry for the Bad english
its me mario Actually, Jak’s sort of going through that right now, he’s literally living his nightmares. Naughty Dog has pushed Jak aside and has left him to fend for himself in his lonely little world in the darkness.
Wow, seeing jak come back to the place he grew up in after all that trauma is so sad. It doesn't help that it's so empty and quiet. I know it's only a glitch, but it makes me wonder how jak would feel after returning to sandover village only to see it so empty. Damn.
This video helped me to realize how much this universe is part of me. Deep inside, I was so moved to see that village empty, like that feeling before crying. I also kind of blamed Naughty Dog for creating such incredible games without continuing them. The Last of Us is definitely interesting but it respects the movie codes way too much, it wasn't the same kind of video games I used to play. Jak and Dexter series, especially the first one, was a different experience from movies. I guess it's the unrealistic-yet-universal making of this series I'm talking about. Why would you bother imitate perfectly the reality when you can do much more than that? I mean, it's way more challenging to imitate reality but so what? Legend of Zelda, Ratchet & Clank, Resident Evil, Grim Fandango, Shadow of the Colossus etc. Despite not having nowadays graphics they have a rich universe. Can you imagine Shadow of the colossus is going to celebrate its 10th birthday? Majora's Mask its 15th birthday? Why do developers waste time with graphics, video games need more amazing stories like those. Thanks for that amazing video! Now I know that I sound like an oldy when talking about video games... I should work on that.
Sacha Niel I understand what you're feeling. When I saw Sandover Village empty and when I saw the game would never return to that place in this state, I became very sad. It's so peaceful and safe, and knowing that it 's going to be destroyed is just kind of heart breaking. I wonder what happened with the villagers and the sages, but also with the precursor temples and the parts of the world.
No, I'm exactly the same way. A few weeks ago, one of the Jak X songs (which are all amazing) was playing in my head, and I decided to dust off my ps2 and pop in Jak X. I was filled with so much nostalgia and um tears (of HAPPINESS OF COURSE!). I was also wondering what happened to the sages and the residents, as well as to the precursor artifacts. They should make a Jak 4.
I agree I don't know for tou but when i was young i played with my brother at Crash Bandicoot ! We had the 4 naughty dogs games ... Sorry if i takes a moment of youre time reading my comments..... OH and sorry for the ugly vocabulary .... Im FRENCH (canadian) :)
My thoughts exactly! It really makes me sad, and secretly I wonder: What happened to the villagers when the Metal Heads attacked? Did they die? Did they somehow survive? And I'm also wondering what happened to places such as the Forbidden Temple and the other Sages. Did the other sages die? And now seeing the village empty is just... kinda creepy.
I assume the fisherman is one of those obese men with big asses in the city. The metalheads prolly killed the sculptor cuz he's always high. And of course, the yakows survived because they are INDESTRUCTABLE stronger than the lurker sharks themselves.
Makes sense tho, it's in the beginning of the game after all before they shot off into the portal. It's a lot easier to port the whole thing over than reworking it and cutting it down to just a few places in the village
@Frogger What I mean is that there are assets for Sandover that aren’t shown in the cutscenes yet still remain in the game. Like the scout fly boxes being replaced with KG Supplies. It’s interesting to see that ND converted the assets of the Scout Flies into KG boxes rather than make an entirely new entity from scratch when making Jak II. I imagine they changed the model and altered the rules regarding how players can break the boxes and left them in sandover as a test.
Imagine if Jak and Daxter, Keira and Samos had originally been planned to come back here at the end of Jak 2, But they decided to make jak 3 in a completely different map. The feels of this place are tooooo strong
nah fairly sure they dropped it in to do the starting cut-scene and because the code would still be attached to it you can still walk on it, but the dark eco crates probably had the same id as the scout fly boxes which is why they appear
Nope the only reason this map is in the game is for the beginning cut scene the dark eco crates are just placeholders of some sort for the old scout flies which do not have textures in jak 2 this is a glitch as you can see in the beginning of the video he ejects the game from the ps2 during the cut scene which is why this happens
This feels so depressing being empty. It TPL it's filled with life and energy but here's it's desolate. When you go to Dead Town it doesn't have this feeling because you discover that it's the futuristic version ofSandover later on in the game. And it doesn't scream Sandover.
At first I thought this would just be a map to test out the game with, and then used for the cinematic scene at the beginning of the game... But then I saw the boxes with the Dark Eco... Maybe it was planned to have Jak and Daxter go back to Sandover Village once you beat the game 100%??? Who knows..
Actually these boxes of Dark Echo were just "converted" from the old boxes from Jak 1, because that object in the engine got replaced in the development of Jak 2... it isn't easy to explain actually, sorry...
xXroadrunner 2fasttXx Scout fly crates... But what doesn’t make sense is that the ending to get 100 Precursor Orbs probably required you breaking all the Scout Fly crates.
xXroadrunner 2fasttXx you weren’t meant to... that’s why they are generic crates with no special coding difference to the normal generated Krimson Guard crates.

Definitely looks like a copy & paste job just for the cinematic but odd that the collision detection still works as well as the initial starting point. No idea why the game code would use it if anything but as for the models they may had the collision counterparts tied to them.
@ethankentman the jak 1 map is there for the opening cutscene. all the cutscenes are in real time in game. so that scene where the camera is panning through the city to samos' hut is really there.
For any one curios , this is most likely a test stage , they most likely used this place to test the games new engine, and using Sandiver was most likely the easiest way to do so.
+FirePrinceZuko 77 I really imagine it is here because the entire landmass just had to be copied from the first game since it essentially loaded chunks of the map to make the illusion of a game with no loading screens. I think you can still walk on everything because unlike bridges and water they wouldn't have to recode simple floors. As for the eco boxes... that was just to reward someone for somehow getting there.
+Waltard Teh Burban the boxes were where scout flies were in the first game, so I think when they copied the area for the second game it loaded them as the guard boxes instead. (just a guess) This would also explain the oracle looking different
The fact you can walk around and aren't falling through the environment points to 2 possibilities I think. Either at some point the devs originally intended for you to return to the island from the first game and play through another level there and this is an unfinished map or this glitch is overlayed on another map. Given that there are dark eco boxes in this map it could go either way but points more to the later as the original island wouldn't have boxes marked with either the Baron's symbol or that of the resistance.
well remember that area is later used in a key point in Jak 2 getting the flag from the tower and going back to the hut finding out it was their world in the future
Yes and no I believe the whole map may have been changed for that. Besides that might account for the stability of the ground in the map but not the color. No I expect the original file was imported, edited and they left part of an old partially finished file in the game either by accident or by sheer laziness lol.
Seeing Jak from the second game back on this island makes me feel good and almost complete, not really sure why. Whatever the reason it makes me feel good and I'm not gonna question a great vibe like this...
(contd. yet again) also the matter of there being no collision when it came to the water and the bridge. This is because as the moving models were replaced with the visually sharper models (as they operate like npc's outside of cutscenes on the engine... they have the same script as npc's) Naughty Dog realised that there was no need for collision as the player would not be playing on the scenery. Thus saving more space.
Jak 2 is still the game that made me a Boy becoming a Man. I played the games beforehand I played Crash on PS1 I did it It all comes together it all makes sense. I'm angrier than Jak. I don't even get a CHANCE TO ADJUST TO THE FUTURE THESE GUYS COME UP AND SMASH MY FACE IN. NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE. It's not EVEN exaggerating to call this game prophetic.
I suppose the code for the scout fly boxes remained quite untouched, but the look and purpose of the box and it's contents just changed. This is why there are those dark eco boxes; scout fly boxes remained from the first Jak game, but got replaced by dark eco boxes.
(contd.) Also Jak 2 runs off practically the same game engine as the precursor legacy but smaller polygons were introduced for sharper graphics. Another example of this would be the leap in graphics between ratchet and clank and ratchet and clank going commando. With this in mind the visuals of sandover vilage would have to be etched out more. For moving objects naughty dog only made them move when the camera would pan over them in the cutscene. This is why the fountain does not work, There is
god I wish i still had my ps2 I literally got the game still but accidentally threw away my ps2 but I really love the way that everything in a video of the game is actually there and how you can easily jut copy and past it to another game.
I think it's more likely they just nabbed the first chunk of the island from the precursor legacy and ran out of time before they could completely remove all of the little details like the walkable textures and stuff.
this might sound made up, but I think I remember doing this when I was younger without having to do the cutscene, I would just put the JDPL disc in and only Sandover village would load. not entirely sure though.
I'm starting to think that Naughty Dog reused the exact same engine from Jak & Daxter in Jak II. They probably thought "Well instead of wasting development time on a new engine, why don't we just do a copypasta job and call it a day!" This explains why crimson guard boxes pop up where scout flies are supposed to because the variable for scout flies in Jak & Daxter is the same as the variable for boxes in Jak II. This makes me wonder if hackers could make Jak from Jak & Daxter playable in Jak II.
think, if you can break boxes with the purple orbs in it, this was meant to be an in-game secret. Sorry i don't know the names well, never got the game. Heard its awesome. I do however have daxters game.
i find it hard to believe this is actually a glitch and not intended, youre tellingme they rendered all of this in the game? and not be allowed to go there/ Unless it was intended to be a playable area from the start
If they make another game I hope they let us go to different time periods: Before The Haven City, While Jak was in prision, While Jak was exiled, When he was racing and when they went to the brink.
Because it was easier just to use what they had already made. They had already created the whole village as a section, so all they had to do is 'copy and paste it' for lack of a better words.
Yes it would but it would've been way more time consuming to go in and delete separate files. If you ever program it might be scripted as Game.Village(or something of that nature)and then under Village would be all the subparts, it would take a lot of time and figuring out to go in and delete all the extra or to just choose the pieces you want when you can just stop at Game.Village and have everything you need. Plus if you go back and watch the full cutscene, almost the whole village is viewed before actually going to Jak and the crew sitting in the machine.
I agree with you with all of that, but what about the random Crimson crates placed in some of the houses? Something's telling me that was the easter egg or Naughty Dog had plans for Jak to time travel back to Sandover in an earlier plot design when the game was still being developed. Hmm....
+TraZix The crimson crates were in place of the original barrels or those fly boxes from Jak and Daxter, they're the eqicilant to each other in the coding of the game so putting them there wasn't necessarily purposeful, they technically were already there, just not the same. As far as Jak traveling back, that's an interesting theory, but he wouldn't travel back till after Jak 3 so they had no reason to add that there. Plus according to the timeline of Jak when he finally does travel back, the village would not look like that, it would pretty much be wiped out.
This is really interesting to see how game levels fit together. Clearly they copied and pasted the level from the Jak and Daxter data and had to use crimson crates to replace scout fly boxes to get it to work.
This glitch only works on a FAT PS2. Reason being is it has to be able to interrupt the disc's spinning. I tried it on a slim but it doesn't work. I got this glitch to work on my ps2 copy of Jak2 on a FAT ps2. This glitch does not work on PS3 as PS3 spins the disc down before ejecting it. the FAT ps2 does not as you eject the disc tray mid-spin which causes the glitch.
actully the area is copied from the first game and the eco boxes are where the scout fly boxes are but because there isnt any scout fly boxes in the games code the game replaces them with eco boxes
I search some video. You can find on youtube Jack and dexter 4 have a chance but its low.Because fcking developers made Jack X and another jack ass games.Another Jack games crushed history(Jack 1 - Jack 2 Jack 3 its Main History). Its possible but its really hard.
But it is still leftover code For another mission But not a good test of so All the jet board moves Making sure the vehicles worked Or testing villains New weapons Jak abilities But you could be right Still could be both
+LIL-countdown Yes they reused this village for dead town, but it was also a test level to ensure the game would work. And they decided that it was possible for the player to revisit Sandover Village. It's neat that they kept it in the game.
@19Vexthehedgehog91 ah the slim.. That i dont think i could fix.. I've never opened up a slim.. So i dont know my way around the inside of one. I know my way around the inside of a Fat. but. I dont think i could fix a slim.. Unless you would REALLY be willing to let me try.. Tis up to you though, since you're the system owner and what-not
Just curious Am I the only one here who drives vehicles In jack 2 in low mode and when I see a car I torpedo it up 😂 so that car would explode when it gets hit.
@19Vexthehedgehog91 Whats wrong with your ps2? and is it the fat or slim. if its the fat, and you'd be willing to send it out i may be able to fix it. i've already fixed 3 other fat ps2's with absolutely no trouble at all. so maybe we could make some sort of deal
I guess they must have originally been planning on a way to get to Sandover Village, possibly post-game, and were actually programming the area but dropped it during production, otherwise this wouldn't be here. It had to be already in the game.
lol, this is no Easter egg. You see, in the Jak and Daxter trilogy, Naughty Dog has always used in-game cut-scenes. So basically you glitched into the in-game cut-scene which is in that island. It's just a glitch, no Easter egg.
there replace the scout flys they basicly copied this level from the first game to use in the intro but because there is no scout fly boxes in the games code the game put kh boxes there instead
It's like Jak grew shorter but looks more like an adult, that's disorienting. I knew something was up even when most of the citizens were taller than him. He only grew shorter
I Agree with You Anthony Bro This is actually the First Time that I've ever Watched this Game here on RUclips Compared to some of those Ratchet & Clank Vids that I've also been Watching Myself here on RUclips, but this one was also Awesome but I just don't Play these sorts of Video Games because They're So Addicting and I'm already Busy here on RUclips a lot..But I really do Like & Love the Graphics and If I was over there in New Jersey, then I would've Played with You By Now bro man..Nice Game!

Lurker shark was in the first.
This feels very depressing and scary a bit
AlwaysHarmony it's a ghost town
wow they modeled the entire starting village into the game cutscene... why there are dark echo crates is beyond me though.
they probably just drafted the old model of the village from jack one to use in the cut scene as well using it for testing jak's new model
they used to be scout flies.
No it's model was left over in code
And it was redesign for a later jak 2 mission where you see the hut is destroyed in the future
nah fairly sure they dropped it in to do the starting cut-scene and because the code would still be attached to it you can still walk on it, but the dark eco crates probably had the same id as the scout fly boxes which is why they appear
The glitch made sandover village a ghost town
A creepy ass one
I had a glitch in jak 1
Where the town was a ghost town
But now jak 2
Lol
You mean a Dead Town
Huh, interesting. Kinda makes me wonder if maybe Sandover Village was, at some point in development, going to be used for the tutorial level.

It's also there for a redesign in a later mission

NOPE NOPE NOPE.
It's not EVEN exaggerating to call this game prophetic.
I suppose the code for the scout fly boxes remained quite untouched, but the look and purpose of the box and it's contents just changed. This is why there are those dark eco boxes; scout fly boxes remained from the first Jak game, but got replaced by dark eco boxes.
i feel like it's creepy without the music and people
look's like rising water levels along with earthquakes really did a number to the old village in the future.
This is why the fountain does not work, There is
god I wish i still had my ps2 I literally got the game still but accidentally threw away my ps2 but I really love the way that everything in a video of the game is actually there and how you can easily jut copy and past it to another game.
i think that this may have been intended to be a level but scrapped due to the crates being strategically placed
+Snake me too
I wonder if the devs just forgot to remove this portion of the game or they left it deliberately knowing someone would figure it out. Crazy stuff
This is a really cool glitch.
I think that the village was part of an unused mission or an unused final... It's so creepy!
When you genocide undertale
I fucking love you.
That's is an incredible glitch to jak 1,2 I ever seen, Awesome.
think, if you can break boxes with the purple orbs in it, this was meant to be an in-game secret. Sorry i don't know the names well, never got the game. Heard its awesome. I do however have daxters game.
this just shows how detailed jak 2 was. they recreated the entire sandover village, just for on cutscene. shit man
Sora's island all over again
Remember that one?
i find it hard to believe this is actually a glitch and not intended, youre tellingme they rendered all of this in the game? and not be allowed to go there/ Unless it was intended to be a playable area from the start
they drug the jak and daxter files into the jak 2 files and put jak 2 files into jake and daxter
or if that gambler has gotten out of his barrel yet
It was almost an insight into the future.
If they make another game I hope they let us go to different time periods: Before The Haven City, While Jak was in prision, While Jak was exiled, When he was racing and when they went to the brink.
their completely different boxes? saying the dark eco boxes were reused would make more sense
im surprised they rendered so much of it just for a cutscene
I think it possibly could have been used for testing mechanics
Imagine if this was some kind of anti-piracy measure.
the creepiest thing is the oracle for me
Why did they make almost the whole village for a cutscene and make the some parts of the floor solid?
Because it was easier just to use what they had already made. They had already created the whole village as a section, so all they had to do is 'copy and paste it' for lack of a better words.
+Devin Fesperman But wouldn't it would take more memory out?
4:32 I was about to shit my pants if the zoomer was there
That thing gave me nightmares, by the way.
Wait why?
5: 17 I remember collecting orbs to get 2 power cells. My child hood was awsome
This is really interesting to see how game levels fit together. Clearly they copied and pasted the level from the Jak and Daxter data and had to use crimson crates to replace scout fly boxes to get it to work.
What do you record your games with and where can you get what you use?
The next game they should make is J&D going back to the past and fight Gol again
@yoyojordan213 This village was only used for a cutscene.
@MoshuaDeath was so excited to see fire canyon at about 4:38 and then.. nothing.
It is so sad,,, In this village, everybody is dead in the future =( (Jak II is in the future)
i love how the only found hint about something beyond this empty village is a box of dark eco...
actully the area is copied from the first game and the eco boxes are where the scout fly boxes are but because there isnt any scout fly boxes in the games code the game replaces them with eco boxes
Looks like everyone is social distancing
EXCUSE ME !!! WHY WHEN I OPEN THE GAME IT ONLY WRITES
-new game
-load game
-options
NOT SECRETS!!! q_q xD
you need to complete the whole game 100% I think
buy scene select viewer in secret with orbs*
LOL now I did that by getting 65 orbs xD
I played the game again and got it 55% in 1 day xD
Nope, never heard of it. It sounds really interesting though, so I'm gonna go look it up. :)
I remember doing this back in the day
I wonder why the developers would place those 2 breakable crates!!
j'ai regarder cette vidéo en 2016
Et j'ai regardé cette vidéo aujourd'hui. Où veux-tu en venir?
how do you do this? plz, i gotz to know...!!!!
"The rocks faced such a fuck-"
lmao, mishearing things is funny XD
jak and daxter 4 CONFIRMED HERE!!!
+Eduardo. Arizmendi Can you show me your source? PLEASE?
+Berk Kaya no it's just a joke srry.didnt mean to get it hope up
I search some video. You can find on youtube Jack and dexter 4 have a chance but its low.Because fcking developers made Jack X and another jack ass games.Another Jack games crushed history(Jack 1 - Jack 2 Jack 3 its Main History). Its possible but its really hard.
Did you play another games of Jack? Because i have a questions.
+Berk Kaya I know but I still have a lot of hope for this series.
Remnants of better game, left to remind us of what the series became.
facts
I think they used this as a test level.
Good idea
No there is one mission where you see what happened to the place and its molded and destroyed
It is just left over model from that new mission
***** Well it seemed like a nice way to test if everything worked right, like the boxes breaking, ledge grabbing, animations, lighting etc.
But it is still leftover code
For another mission
But not a good test of so
All the jet board moves
Making sure the vehicles worked
Or testing villains
New weapons
Jak abilities
But you could be right
Still could be both
+LIL-countdown Yes they reused this village for dead town, but it was also a test level to ensure the game would work.
He only grew shorter
im suprised how much is walkable.and that theres stuff to break in there
Lol even the shark said peace out ✌️ 🦈 🌊
I Agree with You Anthony Bro This is actually the First Time that I've ever Watched this Game here on RUclips Compared to some of those Ratchet & Clank Vids that I've also been Watching Myself here on RUclips, but this one was also Awesome but I just don't Play these sorts of Video Games because They're So Addicting and I'm already Busy here on RUclips a lot..But I really do Like & Love the Graphics and If I was over there in New Jersey, then I would've Played with You By Now bro man..Nice Game!
i wish they made another game on this island!
This depresses me
