Great review. We also bought a 2024 Genesis GV70 2.5T Sport Prestige. We have the Mauna red exterior with the Sevilla red interior. Totally agree with the seats. Fortunately this vehicle is quiet enough in highway driving to where I can enjoy the music and have a normal tone conversation with ball and chain. Thank you for watching my video.
I have this vehicle and love it. The auto-on-auto-off feature has nothing to do with the drive modes. It does not care if I'm in Eco or any other mode, so long as I have that feature engaged, it will work. Speaking of modes, I am not a fan of Eco. Besides its laggy acceleration, there is little noticeable gas savings between that mode or Comfort. So I stay in Comfort. Otherwise, the review, down to the speaker system, and even the choice between the 2.5 and 3.5, is spot on.
When I made this video I hadn’t gone throughout all the features. I still haven’t 🤣. I haven’t driven it on anything else but eco and sport or sport+ when I want to merge into traffic or behave like a child. I’m giving comfort a chance for a full tank soon to see if there’s a perceivable difference. And yes, eco is a snooze 🤷🏻♂️. My guess is that you have the 2.5? I don’t see many 3.5’s out there.
@@JuanCarlosLTO Yep, the 2.5! I just could not make good financial justification for only 74 more ponies and a couple other features (it would have been cool for the 2.5 Sports Prestige to have EVERY feature the 3.5 has -which is reasonable, like heated/cooled back seats, heads up display, and adaptive dampers). Maybe if I was getting 174 horses under there. LOL. But I prefer to keep the coins. 300 hp more than gets the job done (I too like to act like a child, or a speed addicted lunatic at times. Those who say they can't feel the difference between the sport modes and the others don't know how to use them right. 🤣🤣). And people really are not in my back seat enough. But when they are, boy, are they comfortable! I'm like, "you can get out now." When I first got it, I made the mistake of crawling into the back seat during my lunch break. I woke up 20 minutes later trying to figure out where I was. 🤣🤣🤣 For the stereo, I'm going to get an in-tire or under-seat subwoofer.
@@Lyme70 Yeah, I'm not in love with the way Genesis bundles options. For example, brand like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, bundle their options in ways that you can opt for a fully optioned version with all the "luxury" items included independent of the "sporty" version. So at least in the USA you can't have a fully optioned GV70 2.5 without having to go for the larger wheels, and leather/mesh seats. I have a viewer from Germany that just ordered a diesel one and out of curiosity I got in the German Genesis site and to my surprise, the Sport Prestige defaults to 19" wheels not the 21" ones which could be a preference for some who want a possibly smoother ride.
great, practical review Juan, much appreciated.. 👍🏾. i have been considering getting this car for a while and yours, and a few other video reviews have just clinched it for me... thanks a lot 👍🏾
@@JuanCarlosLTO following your very detailed review and other videos, i did a test drive of the car and loved it.. while the fuel cost is a bit of an issue, i think i can absorb that expense at the moment but ideally i might have preferred a hybrid variant. Hopefully, i should have the car in June :)
@sagirparkar4115 fuel cost is an issue, don’t take me wrong! Actually my car hunt began with this in mind: hybrid suv for around $40k: that’d be a fully loaded hybrid Honda CR-V, hybrid RAV4, and it quickly evolved to this 🤣. Honestly a hybrid something would have been the more mature option but who’s ready to grow up?
@@JuanCarlosLTO i hear you . i have always been that 'mature and practical ' decision maker since my teenage years.. which is why i thought i might go and enjoy life a little while i can rather opt for the boring sensible option once again.. i know i won't regret this.. and thank you once again for your advice ! 🙏🏾
@sagirparkar4115 I need to make a video of all the cars I never bought because I wanted to get the more practical choice 🤣… all relatively affordable but I still didn’t get them because I should get the “better car” my first new car was an Acura TSX, I discarded the Honda S2000 because it had to be a 4 door because I was 32 and since I was keeping it forever… eventually I had to be able to fit child seats in the back 🤣🤷🏻♂️… and the list goes on.
I currently drive a 2019 GLC300. Before that I drove a 2013 C300, and before that a 2008 C300. The GV70 has been catching my eye for a few years now. I love the luxurious and sophisticated interior of a Mercedes, and the prestige that comes with owning a Mercedes, but the GV70 is really tempting me. We’ll see what I decide for my next vehicle…
I have no brand loyalty but I do gravitate toward Lexus/Toyota. I find them very bland 🤣 yet I know what to expect etc. I’ve never had a Mercedes Benz and I don’t discard getting one in the future. I love how they drive and the ergonomics are hard to beat. And obviously it would be aspirational, coming from me, who grew up barefoot in Mexico. A Porsche as well… then I wonder why I’m broke 🤣 I really like this thing. Next week I take it from California to Arkansas and back in 4 days… lord have mercy
@@JuanCarlosLTO Wow, that’ll be quite the drive. I drive often between Florida and Michigan. Like you, I grew up modestly with lots of aspirations and envy. The grass was always greener in someone else’s yard. I’m fortunate and grateful for the life I live now, which I could’ve never imagined living when I was a kid. So naturally, now that I’m a successful adult, I gravitate toward the well-known stereotypical luxury items and brand names like Mercedes, Rolex, Cartier, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, prestigious country club membership, and my latest obsession, diamonds and fine jewelry. So my conundrum with the GV70 is this… Will it not feel “special” enough or be impressive enough since it’s not Mercedes? Though the GV70 is very luxurious and impressive, will I be disappointed and feel self-conscious that it’s not a Mercedes? I know the answer is yes. But I’ve been driving Mercedes C-class for 16 years. I’m a bit bored with it. I think I want something different. (And I don’t like BMW interiors.) I’m also attracted to and impressed by the buzz that Genesis is creating in the marketplace as well as their head-turning style. Like, if I choose Genesis, am I getting in on something early that will be really hot and really prestigious in a few short years? Who knows? Maybe. 🤷🏻♂️
@@itstimmer all good questions about Genesis… let me see if I am able to explain my feelings about your concern: Genesis isn’t remotely close to the prestige of Mercedes. And as long as advocates keep saying that Genesis is “great for the money”, it will continue to be nothing but a value proposition vs x… and Mercedes is Mercedes. Sure I won’t drive their A or B classes, but that 3 pointed star continues to be a symbol of heritage world wide. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything else vs BMW and certainly not Audi. As far as vs Lexus? Some people don’t consider Lexus a true premium brand vs Mercedes and BMW so I don’t miss the Lexus statement when I drive our GV70. Every palpable surface of this vehicle feels high quality and “different.” I don’t feel like this vehicle is full of parts shared with Kia and Hyundai. I wish I could say the same about Lexus: lots of parts sharing with Toyota; which is nothing wrong but it feels a bit less expensive than BMW and Lexus no longer has any value proposition vs the Germans; it might have at the beginning with the LS vs the S Class but most Lexus models are priced similarly to the Germans. I totally understand your concerns.
Your guess is as good as mine. My old TSX is full leather and those inserts are perforated leather and one characteristic is that they are very slippery. Maybe Genesis wanted to make them hold you in place the way alcantara does and that it’s used in other sporty applications? This isn’t a track car! It’s not a deal breaker for me but having dogs and customarily eating and drinking in the car on long trips… we’ll see how they hold up. Specially because I want to keep this SUV for a longer time that I typically hold on to new cars.
Lease on my 2020 Jaguar Fpace is up and I am seriously looking at the GV 70. So many features are included in the higher trim that is not on the Jag. Might hold out though for the GV80 Coupe coming out later this year.
If you’re in the United States: the ambient lighting is offered only on the Advanced and the Sport Prestige models not the first two, which are the standard and the select. (2.5L)
It’s by Lexicon and I was sincere in my appreciation of it. But I would still give it a chance. Maybe an extended test drive to see if it’s good enough for you. I’m not an audio aficionado but my wife is so I usually opt for premium sound systems for my cars. Thank you for sharing your opinion
Yes, thanks for correcting me. I meant Lexicon but had Levinson on my mind. I'm and auto enthusiast and audiophile so I definitely notice differences in sound quality. I have driven both the GV70 and the Acura RDX and the stereo in the Acura's ELS stereo blows the GV70's out of the water.@@JuanCarlosLTO
Juan Best of luck with the GV70. Beautiful SUV. My thinking is that Genesis has the most luxurious interiors of all the “affordable” luxury brands. Just watched a review (thecarcarenut) of the electrified version. He really was high on it. I will soon be looking for my next vehicle. I was considering Lexus. Reliability. But this Genesis has that pizzaz. Something new. Something really beautiful to drive. Daughter & wife both had 2008 Hyundai Elantras. Both bought new. Daughter put 216,000 miles & then it died. Not worth dropping in rebuilt engine. She bought new 23’ Corolla (highway commuter to work) & they overcharged 3K. Wife still driving her 08’. I’m driving an Accord Hybrid (14’) and going strong. But I’m antsy for something new. Not getting any younger. Thanks for the videos. Liked your hop to Mexico. Gotta get that charge…only potential problem with electrics.
Thanks! I tried to depict the “why”. In fact, when I bought ours they had a $1000 rebate for owners of BMW, Mercedes, Lexus… meaning they want to bring in customers to the brand. And “different” is a good adjetive. The old school 8 speed automatic RWD bias did it for me. And the rest of the reasons stated. We pay top dollar for these cars, they must meet our expectations. Yeah, plenty of people around me have had Kia/Hyundai and to a lesser extent, Genesis and swear by them. I’m giving the brand a shot. I’m about to hit 3k miles on it 🤣. We just drove it and back to Texas I’m Lexus bias but Lexus just doesn’t make the vehicle I wanted. I was hesitant to walk into the dealership because I’ve heard bad things about their customer service but the experience was great “Lexus like” and they have a sign saying “we never price our vehicles over MSRP” which was reassuring these days with all the crazy markups. Thank you for watching my videos.
I’m not aware of that but the grill and the emblem certainly look too closely inspired by Bentley… I’m not sure that’s a good thing though 🤣. Genesis has been searching for their own identity. I remember the first Genesis, under Hyundai back in 08, to me looked like mix of Mercedes S Class and BMW 5 series. In general I think their vehicles look much better now with the GV70 being my favorite.
I should have said “curb weight.” Research I did; I didn’t pull the numbers out of thin air. In the description of the video I include the following with any potential mistakes in mind: “I make a lot of mistakes in my life and my videos are a reflexion of that. None of what I say erroneously in my video is with the intend to misrepresent the GV70, the Genesis brand or my experience with these.” Have a great day and thank you for your comment.
Sorry, James, I promise to get back to this comment. I just haven't been around my owner's manual but I do know that in California, 93% octane is hard to find so my guess is that you are not in the USA, where 93% is more readily available and your manual might say that.
@JuanCarlosLTO There is a sticker on the inside of the fuel door that also says premium fuel is recommended. It's also clearly stated on the Genesis app. It's no different than any other high compression engine. It needs the higher octane to prevent spark knock.
@@jamesmcd71 I get what you say. But my understanding is "required" vs "recommended". My old Acura says "required" so I do put only high octane gas, which in California is 91 octane and 93 is available but not in all gas stations.
@dalehuhtala9285 hay, you're an adult. You're not required to do much. And that owners manual says if you don't use 93, some parts, up to & including the entire drive line, may not be covered by the warrantee. But yes, it is your choice. Hell, you can put water in it if you choose.
I put 91 octane in my GV70. Does it work good with 87 octane as well? would love to save some $$$ on gas here in Canada with our liberal government pocketing more and more on gas taxes.
It's a Advanced plus 2023 2.5T Korean made one so it also has the ambient lighting in the door trims and sides. Not sure if US one have that. It's like a wavy lines of ambient light in all 4 doors.
Wow! I didn’t know you’d get the Korean version. In other brands people prefer the Japan made versions of what we get here built in the USA. I works just fine! It says “recommended” 91 octane. If it said “required” I’d be paranoid to void the warranty, have issues, etc. the only time that I timed it empirically it felt closer to 7 seconds than the 5.9 people have clocked it 0-60 mi. And yes, ours has the same cool lighting that we love.

I have a viewer from Germany that just ordered a diesel one and out of curiosity I got in the German Genesis site and to my surprise, the Sport Prestige defaults to 19" wheels not the 21" ones which could be a preference for some who want a possibly smoother ride.
great review! thank you
great, practical review Juan, much appreciated.. 👍🏾.
i have been considering getting this car for a while and yours, and a few other video reviews have just clinched it for me... thanks a lot 👍🏾
I don’t think there’s anything like it on the market. I find the competitors blander than this one.
@@JuanCarlosLTO following your very detailed review and other videos, i did a test drive of the car and loved it.. while the fuel cost is a bit of an issue, i think i can absorb that expense at the moment but ideally i might have preferred a hybrid variant. Dont want to go fully electric at this stage due to practical limitations here in Oz. Wanted to thank you (and others out there) for your honest opinion and sincere recommendation..
A Porsche as well… then I wonder why I’m broke 🤣
I really like this thing.
(And I don’t like BMW interiors.)
I’m also attracted to and impressed by the buzz that Genesis is creating in the marketplace as well as their head-turning style.
@@JuanCarlosLTO Excellent points. Thank your for sharing your perspective.
I wonder why they didn't make the black fabric inserts leather? Seems like the one thing that doesn't fit in with the rest on the interior.
I really want to see the GV80 Coupe in person too! I wish the GV70 had a similar version to see how it worked for me.
Great review
Thank you Norma!
What does the cabin noise level look like? Is it quite enough?
Very quiet. Very similar to what you experience with Lexus, Audi, BMW.
How can you tell which one has ambient lighting when looking at the sticker.
If you’re in the United States: the ambient lighting is offered only on the Advanced and the Sport Prestige models not the first two, which are the standard and the select. (2.5L)
Great review Juan.
Thanks Michael!
5:23 So premium gas is only recommended but not required for the 3.5L twin-turbo V6? I thought it was required for the V6
Could be. I haven’t checked the manual for the 3.5. I did start doing premium about 2 months ago. Why? 🤷🏻♂️
Nope, recommended only. Genesis says regular is fine. Tried both, no noticeable difference.
Sounds like the Lexicon stereo system is the only real letdown. That could be a deal killer for drivers who also enjoy great sound while driving.
Oh that ELS is great! I tried an RDX with it.
We just drove it and back to Texas
I’m Lexus bias but Lexus just doesn’t make the vehicle I wanted.
I was hesitant to walk into the dealership because I’ve heard bad things about their customer service but the experience was great “Lexus like” and they have a sign saying “we never price our vehicles over MSRP” which was reassuring these days with all the crazy markups.
Thank you for watching my videos.
Great video!! 😮
Thanks Antonio!
Excellent review. I just test drove one. Currently drive a 2017 GLC 300. I was shocked that the Genesis takes regular gas.
The GLC was on my radar when we went for the RX back in 2018 and I really like the current after the redesign.
Thank you for your comment.
3.5 SP or it doesn't count
Now all you need is a good watch ⌚ 🤔 👍
With the new car payment I can’t even afford to pay attention
genesis designer = bentley designer
I’m not aware of that but the grill and the emblem certainly look too closely inspired by Bentley… I’m not sure that’s a good thing though 🤣. Genesis has been searching for their own identity. I remember the first Genesis, under Hyundai back in 08, to me looked like mix of Mercedes S Class and BMW 5 series. In general I think their vehicles look much better now with the GV70 being my favorite.
These reviews keep stating this genesis suv is 4200lbs but the specs say 5500lbs. I trust the specs. You guys should do more homework on your numbers.
I should have said “curb weight.”
Research I did; I didn’t pull the numbers out of thin air.
In the description of the video I include the following with any potential mistakes in mind:
“I make a lot of mistakes in my life and my videos are a reflexion of that. None of what I say erroneously in my video is with the intend to misrepresent the GV70, the Genesis brand or my experience with these.”
Have a great day and thank you for your comment.
If you read your owners manual, it says Genesis recommends a minimum 93% octane gas.
Correct, recommended not required. Nowhere in my manual says 93...I asked the Genesis mechanics who said regular is fine
@dalehuhtala9285 hay, you're an adult. You're not required to do much. And that owners manual says if you don't use 93, some parts, up to & including the entire drive line, may not be covered by the warrantee.
But yes, it is your choice. Hell, you can put water in it if you choose.
BMW BENZ AUDI and LEXUS KILLER
The 5.9 is only when you use launch mode with no gas in the tank at certain elevations
@@dalehuhtala9285actually upgraded from the Genesis to Kia EV6. Much better quality and car. The GV70 I had for 5 months and for 3 months it say on the car dealership trying to get fixed cuz of manufacturers defect of fuel system
