"Suicide Oberth Burn"
im done
+Gigabic I actually threw up my hands and walked away from the computer at that one. Had to walk in circles in the kitchen for a minute so my brain could recover enough to continue watching.
THEN HE PARKS IT ON THE RUNWAY and my mind blows all over again.
+Joe Yablonski I would like to like your comment. I am on a cell phone and this is the only way :) ps. you actually described how I felt during this video.
I mean - I don't even... what the frell just happened? what did I just watch? ... you sir, +Turbo Pumped , had me on my toes from the start and biting my nails through those suicide burns, like... like sone good old-school sci-fi movies!! Thank you! :)
Sir, you just earned a sub for lifetime! :)
+GameR.mne This isn't you standard run of the mill orbital mechanics, this is orbital mechanics fucking plastered on crack cocaine.
i dont understand. what's a suicide oberth burn
I cant even build a SSTO and actually get into orbit
+Stefan Nilsson lol me neither, and i have to admit i played ksp before its release on steam
+Stefan Nilsson Space planes are HARD. If I can build one that can get to orbit it doesn't have enough fuel left to get anywhere. Sometimes it's stuck up there. I did manage once to bring a stranded fuel-less pod with two clamped reentry craft. It was pretty hard.
+NFITC1 ive made 7 sstos with 1.05 but all with 1/4 fuel left after orbit so i gave up
2 RAPIER's 1 Nerv
Bring enough oxidizer to kick yourself by about 700m/s after accelerating to 1100m/s on air breathing mode
Balance the craft so that it is stable when empty and full (this can be tricky)
If you fail don't give up, trial and error is a very good way to learn
*****
tanks, ill try that
NO DONT WORRY I JUST LANDED A PLANE BACKWARDS ON MOHO NO BIGGY.
Don't forget going back to Kerbin and actually landing it ON THE F***ING RUNWAY!
YA NO BIGGY!
Mr.G 1324 I FORGOT HOW TO TURN OFF CAPS IN JUST KIND OF LIVING WITH IT NOW!
TNT_AND_THE_FLAME just press cap lock?
TNT_AND_THE_FLAME "How would you know there's a car to land on?" "You just have to believe". ("Fast and Furious smthg").
Ion thrusters? Your patience level is over 9000!
Flobbled but not the ISP
No joke, the single most ridiculous thing I've seen in ksp. Didn't think this was at all possible.
Update: 3 tons to Gilly
Just watch Bradley winston
@@benv3209 update 1.56 ton ssto to eve and a 2.7 ton to eeloo
This is very nicely done! I've been trying to do a Moho SSTO for a while now but I've been thinking too big and over-engineering my crafts (again!). This must have taken quite a lot of patience :P
Yes everything involving ion means patience , I tried to make a Moho SSTO without ion but it just wasnt possible .
Thank god for 4x time acceleration : )
+Turbo Pumped wow guys, I can't even do a SSTO properly without either getting stuck in orbit right after achieving it or, usually, running out of oxidizer on my way into orbit, usually leading to more and more complicated builds that are less and less cpapable of even reaching the necessary hight to gain orbital speed XD
anyway, nice video :D
+Turbo Pumped Dude u are simply amazing, this journey to moho was incredible. Like!
Turbo Pumped a shit from KER, i guess
Nusszucker dont feel bad, these guys make great videos that are fun to watch.. im sure if you stacked parts, and altered physics too you could accomplish the same. You just keep teaching yourself.. dont measure your ability based on these vids buddy.
And then there's me, working day and night to keep my 5 stage from blowing up in the atmosphere...
KDreezy Gaming Don't worry, you are not alone...
YES!!!!! 6:00 in "To Glory" by Two steps from hell. I was obsessed with that song in high school. SWEET.
You sir, are WAY too good at this game! If there was a KSP Hall of Fame, you would definitely be inducted just with this performance. Well done, and thank you for the entertainment.
It's crafts like these which make me appreciate the optimisation and time put into these small crafts compared to the big crafts which have as many tanks as possible.
Good job on this video, don't know why you only have 2,000 subscribers!
You sir, have added a new phrase to my vocabulary: "Suicide Oberth Burn"*
*No acronym intended.
Excellent music choices! They time perfectly with what’s happening in the mission. You have good taste
No Eve gravity assists on the way to Moho?! Wow. So much for fuel efficiency.
True; I wonder if a burn to Eve instead of Moho could have been done using ions only.
I got to moho on ions only from LKO. So if moho is possoble, eve should be
MY MAN DID A SUICIDE OBERTH BURN
Idk maybe the fuel it takes to set up isn't worth it or might even kost more
hey turbo, gotta tell ya that this is one of my favorite videos ever, so well made, such a good job
Still one of my favorite KSP videos of all time! TurboPumped definitely influenced my play style!
That was amazing. I can't wrap my brain yet around gravity assists.
I only just launched 1st satellite for Duna, a contract, I have to deploy it in specific orbit. In about a year, when Duna is in proper position, I will launch 1st manned mission to Duna, a gigantic ship, with an orbital laboratory, a science hopper for gathering science, a small Sat for mapping the terrain, two return vehicles - one for several passengers and a small one for the science crew (in case of emergencies) and orbital facilities for 10 kerbals or so. I plan to take a pilot, an engineer and at least 6 -8 scientists, to rank them up.
Once at Duna, everyone will have a chance to land and plant a flag, so they get extra XP. If the ship won;t be too complicated, I will also add a base that will land, part of a contract I have.
Still your minimalist approach is charming. How long it took you to test the vehicle, it seemed very balanced and robust.
How did it go?
You were four years too late
Whenever I think of this video it puts me in physical pain. I cannot comprehend how difficult it must have been to plan and execute this whole thing. Well done!
I'm crying tears of frustration at how good this guy is.
Very impressive. I'm still working on an Eve-inclusive Grand Tour, but I appreciate the elegance and simplicity of this.
This is quite an achievement and a glorious video... Can you do a Tylo SSTO?
I have been thinking long and hard about it, and i got a 20 ton Tylo SSTO in my hangar, but it will have to use mining.
Turbo Pumped Boooo, not cool. Disqualified!
Interesting ! I have also thought of something similar as an alternative to mining, but with the ship itself being able to split in two and with the part with the nuclear engine serving as a lander. Then it can re-assemble itself when the nuke part returns from Tylo .
+Turbo Pumped Andrew Hanson did a SSTO to Tylo (but with a separate lander). It's also theoretically possible to go to Tylo surface and back w/o using only NTR- so yes, Tylo SSTO is possible. Albeit, it would be pretty big, and use ION, but still possible.
Ian Brandon Anderson If it's possible then I long to see you do it.
you landed it backwards, on another planet.
D:
I CAN'T EVEN LAND IT ON A RUNWAY!
AM I THE ONLY ONE SURPRISED AT THE SUICIDE OBERTH BURN?
*builds Lander that gets stuck at mun*
*see's this video*
*jumps out the window*
Cheat... Cheater.. no way...
Is what i would like to say, to make myself feel better..
Well done man, Well done.
That was wholesome
BE WARNED OF 2020
Amazing stock SSTO, combined with amazing flight skills and a killer sound track. Probably my most favorite KSP flight from now on.
Thanks, glad you liked it : )
Mo-ho-ho, Merry Kerbmas!
That was KSP perfection in action! BRAVO!
Your small sweet smart planes are great, that gave me so many ideas on what I've been doing wrong with my oversized, inefficient SSTOs. Very good stuff man! Subbed.
The most satisfying KSP video I have seen to date (and I have seen a lot!).
I really like the choice of music at 04:45
Its nice to hear something else than the typical heroic/action music. The sad music nicely shows the fact that while being the first kerbal to land on Moho with a SSTO, he also is the loneliest kerbal in the universe as of right now.
now do eve, but you can use a corvette instead of a lawnmower.
Kaleb Bruwer
Does Corvette refer to the car, or the class of ship?
@@thejay8963 both
Marius Katutis
_Even better._
Lmao
8:57 "Wait... why is he messing around with changing his orbit?"
"Oh my god... if he's about to land this shit on the runway, then I just can't even."
you are actually amazing.... as a comuntiy we need to grow this channel bigger.....c'mon guys, SHARE
( seriously you deserve far more attention, great work!!)
This is one of my favorite ksp videos EVER. Good work, and keep up the epic music in the videos it really helps!!! :D
Double Kudos.....I can't tell you how many times I thought you were finished in this run, but to my amazement you completed it..brilliant.
i watched this video numerous times. actually one of the reasons to start ksp. thank you for that! impressive mission, nice camerawork, superb choice of music. cheers
Great work ! I will try this myself some day when I have the patience for all those ion engine burns :D
That "Suicide Oberth Burn" was impressive !
You tried to match Moho's inclination when launching into orbit. Wouldn't it have been more efficient to start on an equatorial orbit and then change the plane on the last (high eccentricity) orbit at apoapsis ? Just wondering, you seem to have optimized your journey pretty nicely :-)
Good point. I thought of that too, but only after i saw how slow my speed at the top of the orbit was .
Both methods needs very little delta V though , but your suggestion is easier to do, so I will go for that next time.
Very impressive. I saw the Hummingbird on the runway at launch, and I thought "oh, that's a cool way to get to Moho, but it's a shame that Genedin is not coming home again." I stand corrected.
WOW amazing job i am just impressed at how well you used this ssto i can't even make a mun ssto and you took that thing all the way to moho! WITH NO MODS ALL STOCK WOW AMAZING JOB!!!!!
How have I not been subbed to you. Jesus man. Epic. Remind me of the old Scott Manley
This has to be the most hardcore ksp video i have ever seen in my life, what a glorious craft.
You know most ksp videos aren't really worthy of the music people put to them. This is truly epic. Well done
I've watched a few vids and I'm really enjoying it channel so I've subbed.
Ok that is EXTREMELY impressive. You deserve a medal
This puts you up in Mr Overfloater territory in my book, really impressive!
Ты реально лучший, ещё подобного я не видел, так держать! Спасибо за видео.
"KSP: Preparing staff for NASA since 2011"
Eve is such a nice friend, she's always there to give you a little push. (Though she should shower all the toxins out of her atmosphere, oh well)
Very cool. I never even had the imagination to use a service bay like that. I usually just jam all my batteries and science in it like the Beverly Hillbillies.
this guy is an absolute legend
This is amazing ! Truly inspiring, thank you.
That suicide Oberth burn was the craziest maneuver I've ever seen.
I miss this guy so much
Man, that was beautiful. All of your ships are. Well done!
That was amazing, keep up good work!
Well done on the backward landing, that was quite the skill.
That suicide oberth burn was amazing, never saw that before
show me an SSTO to eve THEN I'll be impressed.
(sarcasm)
AdogAndOnFire and back under 10 kg (including kerbal in seat)
Kerbals weigh 40 kilograms gotdammit
LOLWTF673 with the suite it goes to 90
Bradley did it
Look up bradley whistance
For some reason I don't see people start off with Moho's inclination, that's cool and really efficient, I don't know how I never thought to do it, I'll be sure to do it from now on though!
Merry Christmas, Turbo Pumped.
I just... but h-... WHY COULD Y-... Just take my subscription. This video absolutely just earned it.
what the hell kind of magic powers do you possess
+JerechoNC Math.. i think its call Math.
+lyianx and Xenon gas, too
No, it cant be that...
ALT-F12/config files, and part stacking.
I think it's awesome that one day in the future, people may have to plan out their own interplanetary flights, using gravity assists and such high precision burns as to use an atmospheric breaking as an essential part of the flight plan is pretty radical. I mean we're already pretty close with allot of the gravity assists of the probes we've sent to other planets in the solar system but imagine doing a Martian airbreak on your way to one of its moons... To be fair, we'd probably find it easier to set up a fueling station on the surface and just re-launch from there. But still amazing job, must've taken allot of persistence.
Humuh... wha.... At first I was going to say that the epic music was too much, but no: This feat is downright impressive! Congrats.
Oh, how much nostalgy about old times.... Before 1.0.... 2014... Return me my 2011!
Kerbal Interkerbtional Hospital: It's seems your astronaut has suffered from severe dehydration and bone damage and she is not likely to survive so we give you the option of taking her of life support...
Wherner Von Kerman:NO! KEEP HER ALIVE KEEP HER ALIVE KEEP HER ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kerbal Interkerbtional Hospital: We will do our best...
I realized that sometimes simple things are better that more complex ones. Nice video, here is your like Sir.
I can merely sit here and watch with awe. I have a lot to learn from you...
***** Indeed. I was wondering, has the chosen one finally arrived to challenge the God that is Scott Manley?
+Peter Marsh (breadloaf64) Um... Scott Manley is very smart, knows his astronomy and physics very well, and engineers his craft beautifully, but he's not actually amazing at the game. At least, not as amazing as Hazard-ish, Matt Lowne, and Turbo-Pumped. I'm serious, I see the way they play, and just about every portion of the mission is intuitive to them, but I watch Scott Manley turn his ship around all the time trying to find the right way to thrust. Not to knock Scott Manley, but these guys deserve credit on what they've done, not how well they stack up to someone else.
srsly scott manly doesnt quicksave or the mission is one go than others
Best ssto landing I have ever seen! 10/10
7:00 That was the most smart ass manuever I have ever seen
great design, incredible piloting...epic video! I'am seriously impressed, I'm still struggling with Mun and back SSTOs. I don't think I'm patient enough to use ion engines for IP transfers, but after seeing this, maybe I should give them another chance.
suicide Oberth @ Moho, gravity assist @ Eve, landing @ runway & using the last drop of fuel there.
Incredible!
1. Why did you use a nuclear engine? It is really heavy and not really fit for a small plane like this. I'd use a LV-909 and switch a bit of that liquid fuel for oxidizer.
2. You could have used an Eve gravity assist on your way to Moho to match the inclination and encounter Moho at a lower relative velocity (Eve to Moho rather than Kerbin to Moho). You would also lower the fuel cost of the Kerbin escape burn.
3. That Moho landing was amazing! Great job!
4. 7:02 That's really clever! Thanks for teaching me something new!
Incredible work! I've build unmanned SSTO to Moho and back in ksp 0.24 but with poor TWR it wasn't able to land: i.imgur.com/2ZwX1ZF
Btw what is the title of song in 3:00?
all the kings horses by two steps from hell
thanks!
Nicely done :)
The ISP of ion engines is unreal. It just takes patience :) I wish they'd add a stock ability to refill Xenon. For some reason I simply must play stock...
Ты не человек, я пожалуюсь, ты сверхчеловек! Я дай бог такой болванкой до Minmus' а долечу! 100/10 0_o
>lands backwards on Moho horizontally with Solar' deployed
>takes off with nuclear and Ion engines
>~5000m to orbit
>0 De-orbital burn from Eve assist
>perfect runway landing
>leaves
Wow... Just... WOW. If you'd asked me, I would have said this was outright impossible. You officially win Kerbal Space Program.
I was so impressed!
When you landed back on the runway, I lost it.
I am lost for words. Amazing mission.
Well done.
And landed on the runway as well, you smart arse!!! LOL! Bloody well done!!!
Everyone: can get SSTO into orbit
Me: can’t even build a functional in atmosphere aircraft
your a kerbal god, that rivals the mighty kraken himself
You sir are a god. This was incredible
two steps from hell fits in like a glove
I love how every single time you do one of these, your kerbal falls on his face as his first contact with the ground in 5-15 years...
Their legs aren't used to such gravity, being in the zero-g environment of space.
That sir, was epic. Well done.
You sir, are both a mathematician and an artist.
5:51 I was completly hyped by this song because this is my favorite !
Oh, and by the way...
CONGRATULATION.
It is simlpy incredible ! Better than Hazrd-ish himself !
I think some Ion efficiency was lost due to angling the engines. How did you stack up the rapier and nerv and still had balanced thrust ? wouldn't the rapier flip the ship at max thrust ?
Yes, it's a mini spaceplane. Yes, it has 3 engines. Yes, they exist.
Man you're amazing! I mean, how do you calculate every single possibility for save fuel, all those orbit things...just incredible, why don't you go work for NASA!
I have only one question: if you use mods, which do you use? And eventually sorry for my bad english, I am italian ;)
Practice and a background in maths and physics which helps a lot in this game .
All my missions and crafts are 100 % stock so no mods.
Your english is perfectly fine by the way.
+Turbo Pumped Thank you very much!
How much clipping was done on the fuel tanks? I'm only asking because it is noticeable during the ascent. Would love a copy of the craft file as well :)
@7:00: "Suicide Oberth Burn" - that is the Kerbal of the Day Award.
Just curious, is that last song from Halo? It kinda sounds like it is but with more electric guitar
On your return burn... I think you clipped a rock! :D
I have done a grand tour with no mining including eve landing and return, but I still can't get an SSTO to orbit with enough delta v to do anything more than a de-orbit burn... Well done!
dude or you guys do you found any animations or just compilations of space achievments using the song "To Glory"
pls tell me since the song is way awesome
this guy scares me. so efficient.
