+AIM_SideWinder I just crashed a munar lander on the mun. And he landed a plane with winglets and 4 units of fuel. This is like me and my dota skills compared to any internationals player.
I built a space shuttle which launches quite well, but I can't get it into an orbit though... I tried to make it as realistic as possible by using monoprop for orbital manoeuvres but I haven't quite cracked it yet. :)
+Lalsay i thought i was a pro when i assembled a ship in orbit (huge) attached a lander(heavy) landed on duna, docked again and came home alive.... then i see this....
I put 2 probes at the same flight ! 1 on Duna and another one on Ike !! Non-man vehicle. Now I need a video about Duna and back "See this video "Flip the table
Holy CRAP!!!! But it makes total sense. With the nuke now being able to run on LF alone, and the craft being so lightweight, the Delta V on that thing would be awesome! Question, have you tried it with the Rapier Engines yet? They can stay on air breathing mode for longer higher, or at lest that's what I've experienced. :)
yes i got a rapier version too, and it got the exact same delta V as the jet - the jet compensates for lower speed with lighter weight and slightly less fuel consumption in this case. So i choose the jet since its a lot cheaper : )
+Turbo Pumped ...seriously, how do you people do this?! I can make a rocket that can do too laythe sure...but...seriously...I have yet too make a working SSTO. whats the secret?
+Vaos Human I seriously was wondering wtf all you guys were saying GG too with seeing he didn't have oxidizer! Well played Turbo well played. I tend to not use them myself so didnt realize the change
+ronger97 I usually use as small wings as i can and with little or no control surfaces and let the reaction wheels do most of the control (demands careful balancing) - this aproach doesnt work well for longer heavier ships though . then I angle the wings slightly so the fuselage goes paralel with the airstream. But how you fly the plane is perhaps even more important. This ascent profile usualy works well for me : let the plane build up speed to 300 m/s after taking off, then pull up to a 30 degree climb, flatten out at 7000 m and let the plane build up speed to 700 m/s then pull up to a 10-15 degree climb till it reaches 22000 meters then activate the nuke .
*me to friends* : „I just made the smallest ssto to Duna and back." Friend sends link to turbo pumped's video 10 minutes later I throw my keyboard out the window...
They are the people which do not like the game, thumbs down to be the first or one of the only people to do it, do it to be edgy or simply down-vote because of stupid reasons like "they couldn't of done that".
Had I not seen the video, I would not have believed this to be possible. You, sir, have just won the Scott Manley Trophy For Best F*cking Space Flight Ever
Color me impressed. I've tried similar engine combos for an SSTO but never anything nearly that small, thus never with anywhere near that range. And I can barely believe you were able to put it down on a runway with the last drop of fuel like that. Hats off sir.
I'm guessing English isn't your first language, because you tend to make some common errors people learning it do. some tips for the future: -you often say 'have' when you mean 'has' (you put "the midget have landed", when it should be "the midget has landed") -generally, in English there is no space between the end of a sentence and the exclamation mark! - 'is' comes after singular, 'are' after plural (genedin's trials ARE not over yet) -when referring to somebody's thing (genedin's trials) you add an apostrophe before the 's' to indicate that they are genedin's trials. didn't see much else in this video, but hopefully these help with making the text on future videos!
The inline cocpit produced too much drag at high angle of attack on my little SSTO , and flipped it over. It also have lower heat tolerance than the command pod . The command pod is simply the superior choice for small SSTOs, it doesnt create more drag either - strangely enough .
This is just insane... The furthest I've gotten with an SSTO is Minmus. I could probably make one to get to Duna, but definitely wouldn't get back. Props to you.
It took me my most advanced (I'm not a seasoned player yet) 1000 tonne rocket with a 120+ tonne lander to get to Duna, I lost 2 of my 4 main engines during "landing". It has taken me over 3 Real time days to design and build the ship, constantly testing, constantly fixing. I made it with no refuels. AND I CANT EVEN BRING IT HOME. Fuck. You're too good.
Nice. I saw an SSTO to Eeloo a minute ago that used MKIII parts, but they didn't even land the thing on the surface, they just used a small oscar tank lander. Your feat is more impressive by far due to the small size of the craft and actual landing.
Both are impressive. The SSTO to Eeloo has to have lots of Delta-V just to make it to Eeloo, and the inclination and the capture burn. Duna is closer and has an atmosphere, it is impressive that he landed a plane on Duna though.
I once got distracted by my cat whilst plotting a burn to the mun, ended up going all the way to minmus by mistake and until it came into view, I had no idea! Needless to say the lack of planned fuel for the return trip meant I had to abandon my rocketplane at about 7,000m on Kerbin and splash down next to the KSC using just poor Jeb's jetpack fuel to slow him down. He survived, but all the science he collected was lost!
I felt this way when I did my tylo landings. I had a ship that could land anywhere. The catch is, BARELY on tylo. It took me about 50 tries to get it to land on tylo in testing, and 2 vehicle swap-out with the mothership to get one that worked. I could probably send you the craft file link, to see if you wanted to try...
a useful thing to remember for emergency needs for a few extra m/s is the EVA fuel. It feels ok to use one tank at least. More than that is a bit cheaty though ;p
+Locutus Borg He missed his optimal window for a return trip to Kerbin. The planets only line up perfectly very rarely and he had no fuel to spare for a less than optimal window.
ObfuscatingUsername Unlikely. Scott Manley already pointed out how ineffective Munar slingshots are around Kerbin, since a ship moving on an escape trajectory passes through the Mun's gravity too quickly to experience any significant acceleration, and Ike's gravity is even weaker than the Mun's.
First attempt ? only in my dreams ! Had to give up my first mission and redesign the plane with 4 landing gears so it wouldnt constantly tip over after touchdown .
YOU!!! What am I supposed to tell Werner *now*? "Oh, we're not possibly read for a manned interplanetary flight Werner, the astronauts will just have to wait a few more years while we refine our techniques and tests." crap. I'll have to try something now. lol

It just struck me how amazing the concept of lining up with a runaway from a quarter the way around a planet is... o.o
I wish my friends played Kerbal. Then they would understand how amazing this video actually is...
this video is beyond awesome in every single aspect. Editing. Soundtrack. Contents. Just wow.
Hariz Izzudin I know, right?
+AIM_SideWinder I just crashed a munar lander on the mun. And he landed a plane with winglets and 4 units of fuel. This is like me and my dota skills compared to any internationals player.

made an ssto. it looks like a rocket. barely made it to space and barely recovered it *flips ksc*

+Jeff Bergeron Tries to make SSTO to the shore from KSC
Gives up, plays minesweeper
actually making a ssto big is bad. my first ssto is 20t and can reach only a low orbit space station
+Jeff Bergeron 218 tons is actually your problem, aim for 10-40 ton range.
Did someone say something about pilot error? That's my specialty!
I can't imagine how many quicksave reloads you needed to pull this off...
Oh god ... that Duna landing nearly drove me to madness !
Turbo Pumped But you pulled through in the end. Kudos to you man :D
you could spin around 2-5 times to slow down
And I thought I was a pro when I managed to put a probe around Duna ;_;
and I thought I did it when I sent my New Korizon spacecraft to Eeloo. gotta learn how to ssto next

people that dont believe science

They are the people which do not like the game, thumbs down to be the first or one of the only people to do it, do it to be edgy or simply down-vote because of stupid reasons like "they couldn't of done that".
The ones who couldn't.
Yesterday I made a simple SSTO plane and I was soo happy!
But after your video! Well done mate!
This is the only KSP video that makes me want to do a standing ovation and cry out of astonishment.
Had I not seen the video, I would not have believed this to be possible.
You, sir, have just won the Scott Manley Trophy For Best F*cking Space Flight Ever
So you strapped a jet engine on a nukestick* an hoped it would work? Nice.
*totally real term for a capsule-fueltank-radiation hazard configuration
+Etropalker lol
I read nudestick

I like how the music start during take off
I like how I heard no music so turned my volume up and then the music started, loudly.
Videos like these just keep inspiring me to get KSP and pull off feats like this one. Well done man.
Wow. You are definitely the best KSP player I have ever seen
Awesome work. Gonna have to go build that thing and take it for a spin myself now.
Can't believe you got it back onto the runway after all that.
I'm guessing English isn't your first language, because you tend to make some common errors people learning it do. some tips for the future:
-you often say 'have' when you mean 'has' (you put "the midget have landed", when it should be "the midget has landed")
-generally, in English there is no space between the end of a sentence and the exclamation mark!
- 'is' comes after singular, 'are' after plural (genedin's trials ARE not over yet)

They aren't error, that is wit...
Sorry for the late reply, actually, REALLY SORRY COZ I AM 1 YEAR LATE!
RancidMarshmallow pretty sure nobidies here for an English lesson
0:23 I was turning up the volume to see if it was muted cause you were playing no sound and that part came in and I was like MY EARS
Wow, I love that you ran out of fuel less than a second before touchdown. Bravo!
perfect in every way! I can't believe you pulled off a soft landing at duna with those puny winglets *clap clap clap*
my vocabulary isnt rich enough to describe how amazing and insane this is. im playing ksp since 0.19 and i must admit you are ksp god. moooooreeeeeee!
Legitimately chuckled out the world noo-oo-oo when you landed on the island runway
this is awesome, but why didn't you use the mk1 cockpit instead of this one?
The comand pod is much lighter
and what about using the inline cockpit and another intake?
The inline cocpit produced too much drag at high angle of attack on my little SSTO , and flipped it over.
It also have lower heat tolerance than the command pod .
The command pod is simply the superior choice for small SSTOs, it doesnt create more drag either - strangely enough .
Turbo Pumped interesting, thanks
+Turbo Pumped the lander can is even lighter and you can just put a standard nose cone on it
Genedin's response to the ssto launching though.
"aaaAAAA I WASNT EXPECTING IT TO BE THIS FAST"
This is just insane... The furthest I've gotten with an SSTO is Minmus. I could probably make one to get to Duna, but definitely wouldn't get back. Props to you.
This is amazing!
I built two space station In order to get to duna...But this...
Great landing skills!
Holy... wow.. I can't even make a decent SSTO. I managed to get to minmus and back, but that's all. And it was a heavy, 80 ton fuel cemetery.

Nice, ran out of fuel right when you landed. I salute you!
Funny fact, the F-104, which was also a fast but hard-to-handle plane was also called the 'widow maker'.
The editing in this video is spot on.
This is so fucking epic! Nice editing and music choice, i always get goosebumbps!
That was insane :D Thank you for uploading this, loved it soooooo much :D
Thanks, i thoroughly enjoyed that. How long do you think the landing roll on Duna was?
I enjoyed watching this.
You just earned yourself a subscriber! Incredible work!
Wow, nice, little and powerfull design you have there.
Simply amazing- you should really produce videos like this more often!
great job, I can never even get an SSTO into Kerbin Orbit. let alone making a trip to another planet with it
what's the "roller coster planes"
Prob a flag from a previous mission
I wish I had your skills. Great design! ^^
This had me on the edge of my seat. Well done :D
Feel like I just watched an ad for a Russian fighter jet. Only the plane in this vid didn't explode.
that my friend... was just.. AWESOME!!!!
That was certainly worth the watch! Well done, cheers!
Good job. Love people doing stock challanges. And the craft/mission seems to be not too unrealisitic. Except the duna landing maybe ;-)
a useful thing to remember for emergency needs for a few extra m/s is the EVA fuel. It feels ok to use one tank at least. More than that is a bit cheaty though ;p
13 years? that's the kind of time typically need to get to *Eeloo* and back. Why did he have to wait so long to complete the mission?
+Locutus Borg He missed his optimal window for a return trip to Kerbin. The planets only line up perfectly very rarely and he had no fuel to spare for a less than optimal window.

ah yes, I now recall watching that a long time ago. Thanks
How many tries did this take to get right? It doesen't seem believeable as a first attempt. but still, grats to you for making the trip!
First attempt ? only in my dreams ! Had to give up my first mission and redesign the plane with 4 landing gears so it wouldnt constantly tip over after touchdown .
+Turbo Pumped Music ?
Wow...
I have to say this is impressive. I think my last multi launch, multi stage rocket to Duna weighed a couple of thousand tons, rofl :p
Well done man. that was impressive.
that's some top notch fuel management
Why did you use four wheels? Couldn't you have saved weight by using one less?
An unexpected ending. Well done mate.!
The Widow Maker is... ME when I play KSP
Great music and content, as always.
ok... HOW THE.... WAT THE... HOW DID YOU DO THIS D:
OMG... how do you calculate your deltaV margins so tightly? what mods do you use for information/engineering/planning?
Dude that landing was amazing...
lol tht faceplant was quite the kerbal return!
I've never played KSP nor do I have any real knowledge of the matter. But I love seeing how the people react in the comments. :D
+Georg F You need to get KSP then! There's a free demo on the website if you're unsure.
I have serious respect for you.
Who ever Dislikes this are the ones who are Envy that he did it.
YOU!!! What am I supposed to tell Werner *now*? "Oh, we're not possibly read for a manned interplanetary flight Werner, the astronauts will just have to wait a few more years while we refine our techniques and tests." crap. I'll have to try something now. lol
This must be magic! How can you build a spaceplane this small?! I tried it many times, but I always failed...
:D Your subs are growing fast!
For a lack of better phrasing: that was absolutely incredible.
the fuel tanks of this plane are unreal
That's some nice flying!
i once saw swdenis say: "An eclipse for the end of the world?!"
THIRTEEN YEARS?! Jeez, that's a small launch/escape window. With a higher budget of fuel it could have been sooner.
one thing, I need this game, such cool!
I'm just going to pick up my jaw from the floor
wait, you could have used the jet engine to cushion the duna landing right? it would have been much more efficient.
What an epic conclusion. Be honest, you were hoping for fuel cut-off on touchdown, weren't you?
wow that was amazing especialy the landing
Great work
Oh. My. God.

wait... the widdow maker is the F104 ain't it?
How did you offset the top fuel tank and the jet engine?
Wow!, Thats a lot of miles for such a small amount of fuel
kip really makes you forget how long your actually sending kerbals to sit in a small can i space for the perfect maneuver
damn playa , thats some fancy flyin
How many quicksaves did this take?
Not many, but a shit ton of quick loads - landing on Duna with those tiny "wings" is an absolute nightmare.
Oof. I once sent a satellite to Duna with like 50 stages and still quick loaded like 50000 times
Well. I can't even make an SSTO of any size. Fuck.

XBRT
a space station can still serve as a refuel station, so if you keep most of the tanks you launched with and refuel them there, you can go far.
XBRT put a fuel tank on your station
XBRT just try to keep things modular and don't go too big from the start. You're not actually gonna use it THAT much.
It amazes me how you can do that and I can barely get a craft to the mun with 10x as much fuel
