It is so funny to see people who are so used to Keanu playing an action star and then watching this. We were the other way around wondering how the goofy guy was going to do action movies.
100%! My dad never gave him a chance in action movies because I watched Bill & Ted constantly growing up and he always thought of Keanu like Spicoli from Fast Times as his real persona. Recently he watched John Wick and read up about Keanu's charity endeavours, admitted he was wrong about him XD funny how a single movie can pigeon hole an actor so much.
I remember the theater laughing at the trailer for "Point Break" "I am an EFF BEE EYE AGENT!!!" It was kind of sleeper hit that did pretty good on release but didn't become a cult movie until a few years of video and cable.
Gen X gal who has lived my entire adult life based on the philosophy of Ferris Beuller and Bill & Ted. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it. So be excellent to each other and party on, Dudes!
I'm a Boomer, and also live by that code. When this came out I was running a crew that mainly were recent H.S. grads or early 20s, and I was starting my 2nd childhood. We were known as the zoo crew.
The sequel is so different and a borderline horror comedy that it has to be seen. It’s so off the wall you have to check it out. Seeing George Carlin in a movie is always a good time. Jersey Girl is a really underrated Carlin movie.
I don't think that I've ever seen a more perfect meeting between reactors and a film. You two were almost genetically designed to be able to appreciate this film for the masterpiece of goofy cinema that it is.
All we are is dust in the wind: a Kansas song- "Dust in the Wind" "Like sand through an hourglass, so are the days of our lives" from a daytime soap opera that was on for like 12 billions years.
The actor who played Bill also played one of the vampires in "The Lost Boys". I loved George Carlin as Rufus. You guys would love "Wayne's World", which is in many ways like this movie. Very funny movie and one of the best films based off a "Saturday Night Live" skit. Mike Myers and Dana Carvey play so well off each other and the soundtrack is awesome.
This movie was absolutely huge when it came out. And was one of the first rental movies that had wait times in weeks. Back then video stores only had a limited number of tapes in stock. This movie was pre-Blockbuster.
it actually wasn't the movie was out when blockbuster was already around in its prime blockbuster started in 85^ so by the time this was out on video blockbuster was hugely popular
The musician cameos are fun. Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go's plays Joan of Arc. The three future people standing on the throne were credited as The Three Most Important People in the World. They are Clarence Clemons of the E Street Band, Martha Davis of The Motels, and Fee Waybill of The Tubes. Those of us hooked on MTV at the time immediately recognized all of them. Ironically, none of them are featured on the soundtrack, which is, as you observed, really great.
This was such a fun movie from my youth! It didn’t take itself too seriously and it was one of those movies that’s just a joy to watch. This is the movie that began my lifelong obsession with Keanu Reeves! Lol I’m happy y’all enjoyed this for what it is! RIP to the great one - George Carlin. His absence is noticeable.
This movie is the reason it took me a little while to take Keanu Reeves serious as an action star lol. I can hardly see him on screen without picturing Ted on stage “Whoooa”. I have great memories of watching this with my brother and playing air guitar.
Great example of "infectious enthusiasm." The characters (and seemingly the actors) never stop having fun, so neither does the audience. Also, you guys should definitely react to the 2nd movie "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey", but just go in knowing that it's going to be MUCH weirder than the first one.
It is one of my favorite comedies from the 80's. My friend and I had our minds blown when we watched this movie and I have loved it and the sequels ever since.
This film runs neck-and-neck with The Princess Bride for Most Charming Film Ever. It's sweet and innocent and that's why it's so loved. Also, Ted is pretty much the embodiment of Keanu's first ten years as an actor. _This_ was what everyone thought of when they thought of Keanu. Check out some of his early films and you'll see a completely different guy from what you expect. "Coltish" is the best term I can come up with describe him - he had that kind of loose-limbed, clumsy, sweet aura. That's how I first thought of him, and I miss that guy. He was so much fun. ETA: The park's name is WaterLoops, by the way. :D
This is not only a surprisingly heartfelt and enjoyable film, it holds up _extremely_ well to repeated watches. There are so many subtle gags throughout that everyone misses on the first viewing (i.e., Sigmund Freud's corndog drooping as he notes the mall girls' "mild form of hysteria"). San Dimas is a real city in California, within the greater Los Angeles area, and really does have a huge water park (although it's not called Waterloo). I just happened to drive through on my way somewhere else once & totally fanboi'd at it. 😂 I am also completely incapable of seeing a Circle K without noting out loud that "strange things are afoot". Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey is also well worth the watch, at which point you might as well finish up the trilogy with 2020's Bill & Ted Face The Music. And yes, the soundtracks were all incredible! Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes! 🤘
Sci-fi mixed with comedy works really well I find. Back to the Future, Galaxy Quest, Bill & Ted, Men in Black, and Idiocracy are just a few great mixes of those popular genres.
The fact that I first discovered Keanu in this movie is pretty funny cuz everytime I saw him in more serious movies it was a shock to see Ted "woah" Teodore in Speed, The Matrix or John Wick 😀 Such a fun movie with stupid but good spirited characters.
The funniest part of this movie in my mind is that Rufus says the last line of "they get better" in terms of their music yet it shows all through out the movie that they actually were capable of being very smart after meeting the historical figures. If you look at how they presented them during their report they learned at least some things about them. They learned Socrates name and how he was a philosopher. They learned about how Sigmond Freud had an amazing affect on the advancement of psychology. They learned how Billy the Kid was an amazing gun slinger hence his use of his marksmanship shooting the light. The way they learned how Ghengas Kahn was a violent conquerer from China. And so on and so on. Which shows they were really capable of learning all along. They just needed to do it in their own unique way. Which some people need and I can relate to. So I honestly believe they could get better at playing music in the future too. Dont ever let yourself be held back by doubt. It has been the bane of my existance and I still struggle with it at times. Yet when I push through things typically go well. P.s: rock on dk dudes this reaction was like totally bananas.
Greatest soundtrack ever. All unknown bands at the time. That jam from the mall chase scene was by Extreme off their first album. When this came out, I was working at an amusement park running a ride in a dome with lights and music. Played this soundtrack from beginning to end. Shark Island, Big Pig, Love On Ice, searched out and found all these bands.
I think the thing with the third one even though I enjoyed it and was happy to watch it, it just wasn't really necessary lol but still a good time for a fan of the franchise and actors
A few years ago, I participated in an informal table read of the _Bill & Ted_ script (I was Billy the Kid). It was tremendous fun. The person reading So-Crates, especially, had us in stitches by enthusiastically exclaiming random Greek words any time they had a line.
This movie is why Keanu says ‘whoa’ in every movie he is in. His biggest Easter egg. From now on you will catch yourself waiting for him to say it in all his movies.
Always loved that scene where Billy The Kid and Socrates try to pick up girls at the Mall, but then Freud comes along and messes it all up for them. Great stuff. :)
When this came out they had tons of field trips to see it in theater, as it inadvertently actually teaches history. Best day of school ever. You've gotta watch the rest... they're just as insane and unpredictable. Highly recommended.
Classic! I’ll never forget what my aunt said about this movie when I first heard of it as a kid. I asked her what it was and she said the name & said “it’s funny. It’s Stupid, but it’s funny”. 😆😆😆
That tasty song at the Mall was Extreme "Play With Me" and the guitarist is Nuno Bettencourt the guy that most guitarists say fills the void since Eddie Van Halen died. Now you have watch the sequel Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey!
Made for less than $10mill, took $6mill on its opening weekend, and over £80mill US, CA & Worldwide. A most excellent film, its just so much fun. I love Ghengis, played by Al Leong who has been a henchman or stuntman in loads of films, Die Hard, Big Trouble in Little China etc.
Honestly, Everything you guys said about this film is 100% true, but you know what I love the most? Just how positive Bill and Ted are. This movie is so optimistic, and everyone is just really uplifting. I don't even know why but the scene in the future almost makes me cry. It's just so encouraging and hopeful in a weird way. I dunno man. We need more films that are just there to instill people with good vibes and encouraging words without it being deathly serious. Just... be EXCELLENT to each other.
I still love walking into a Circle K in the wee hours, and declare - "There are strange things afoot at the Circle K!" - so, be excellent to each other - and PARTY ON, DUDES!
I happen to work at a Circle K now, its awesome to quote "there are strange things afoot at the Circle K" around a mix age group of customers to see who laughs Bogus Journey is one of those rare as good or better club members as a sequel, Bill's actor is Sean Penn's brother btw, Had a great time rewatching with you guys, it was a fun time in the theaters too, this is how most Gen X's met Keanu and we still adore him now🤗 I'd love to see him use the "woah" line in a modern comedy as a call-back❤
Saw this in theaters as a 13 year old and yeah, LOVED it and it sure defined my early teens though I didn't catch all the jokes LOL. They filmed a lot of it in my home state around Phoenix. Saw the third one in theaters on my 45th birthday. All three had great soundtracks!
The "San Dimas Mall" scenes were filmed at the Metrocenter Mall in Peoria, AZ (right outside of Phoenix). Sadly, the mall has permanently closed and is being demolished. As soon as I moved out here 20 years ago, one of the first places I went was to check out this mall, all because of Bill & Ted.
Some of the scenes were filmed in Mesa, AZ (the bowling alley and the water park), and a few in Scottsdale, AZ (the police station and the wild west). The mesa ones are still there. I think the Scottsdale wild west one is long gone in favor of housing developments, as many things in the phoenix areas are these days.
Ok.. If you guys love this one... You MUST check out the sequel Bill And Ted's Bogus Journey!! To me.. It's even funnier than the first one!! Later you have to check out the 3rd movie that came out in 2020.
I love this trilogy, so much I finally have a red 1980's phone booth. It's in the back of the hearse right now because there is no room for it on the boat.
This is the Keanu I grew up adoring. These films are always fun to watch. Imho, they hold up excellently! Side Note: Billy the Kid was in New Mexico so he does at least have access to tacos. 😂
God I love this movie. I was a senior in high school when it came out and it was the beginning of my lifelong crush on Keanu Reeves. Also, to this day I will pronounce Socrates the way they did and will say (or at least think) "strange things are afoot at the circle k" every time I see one. I love that it is still just as funny to me now as it was in 1989.
Watch all three! Watch all three!! Watch all three!!! Watch all three!!!! Every movie is unique and at the same time bonkers, but deserved to be watched. Not to mention the trilogy is basically past, present, and future.
I grew up with this movie (I was 4 when it came out and it was immediately my favorite movie ever. Still is and I’m almost 38) and it is HILARIOUS to watch people who have never seen it watch the movie for the first time. I’m fvcking cracking up over here.
This is probably one of my favorites. I love how Bill & Ted are so clueless but at the same time, their ignorance is just so funny and sweet. I never looked at the whole “time travel-fashion” the way y’all did. You have a point. They didn’t care bc they just wanted to get their “Historical Babes” lmao 😂 this is such an absolutely fun, funny and most Triumphant, Totally Excellent movie! I’m so glad you got their “vibe”. When my daughter was about 14 or 15, I tried to get her to watch it with me. She didn’t want to watch it, but as she was doing her homework, little by little, she’s laughing at all the jokes and she was hooked! ❤
I was 13 when this came out and so Keanu has always been Bill having weird violent adventures the past few decades. The sequel a few years later was fun but you may now understand how HUGE it was when the 3rd movie came out a few years ago with Bill and Ted now in their 50s. Keanu with his career as it is stepped back into black stallion.
5:06 - Holy shit!! This dude was in LA Noire!! Actor's name is "Hal Landon Jr." "The Consul's Car," was the case he appeared in. Pretty early game. Pretty infamous because this relatively sweet old man just casually drops a bomb like, "three g*ddamn Mexicans," out of nowhere and NOBODY addresses it, because it takes place in 1947 (and it's not even CLOSE to being the most offensive racism in that game).
The Beethoven piano scene is actually Nuno Bettencourt from the band Extreme playing the guitar piece "flight of the bumblebee"... he's a really good guitarist!!!
The air guitar flourishes were done by none other than Steve Vai. The tasty guitar in the mall scene was Nuno Bettencourt with the band Extreme. The song is "Play With Me". Nuno is a killer and tasty guitarist! This is one of my most excellent top movies. Party, on dudes!
Joan of Arc is Jane Weidlin of The Go-Gos. The cool future people included Clarence Clemmons of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. The Big Man on sax. The very fast guitar solo song is "Play With Me" by Extreme.
Al Leong, who played Genghis Khan, is best known for playing some form of henchman in 'every 80s action movie'. I believe he's a stunt coordinator nowadays.
I’m having a crappy week so far and your reaction was exactly what I needed. You guys crack me up! Thanks for reacting to this movie, it was one of my favourites as a teenager!
You will never see Keanu the same again. EVERY roll he plays has just a sprinkle of TED in them. Now you guys need to do Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. I think you will find it most stupendous!!
Most triumphant! So glad you both enjoyed the movie as much as you did, it's a favorite of mine and I've seen it countless times. So many great quotes. I hope you check out the next two as well! edit and YES amazing soundtrack
Another special note is that Keanu ask for an autograph from George Carlin. Which he did.....it said "Keanu, f**k you." Waiting for you guys to watch the second movie.
⭐ FANTASTIC REACTIONS! ⭐ THE 1ST SEQUEL IS GREAT! ⭐ ORIGINALLY TO BE CALLED: ⭐ 'BILL & TED GO TO HELL' ⭐ FOOLISH MARKETING EXECS SAID: ⭐ "NO, THAT WON'T WORK IN THE BIBLE BELT!" ⭐ RESULTANT NAME: 'BILL & TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY' ⭐ THE 2ND SEQUEL: I STOPPED WATCHING 30 MINS IN.
I saw this theatrically, and the only thing I knew about it going in was that George Carlin was in it. I have loved it ever since. If you would’ve told me, Keanu Reeves would become one of the biggest movie stars in the world 30 years later, I wouldn’t have believed it. Lol.
It is so funny to see people who are so used to Keanu playing an action star and then watching this. We were the other way around wondering how the goofy guy was going to do action movies.
Yep, for sure. I keep laughing to myself when people will know him from John Wick or as Neo, or even Jack from Speed. I know him as Ted.
I'm still wondering that. 😁

Ok.. If you guys love this one... You MUST check out the sequel Bill And Ted's Bogus Journey!! To me.. It's even funnier than the first one!! Later you have to check out the 3rd movie that came out in 2020.
Bill and Ted are so good-natured and they're so on the same wavelength it's just impossible not to love them. Absolute classic.
I love this trilogy, so much I finally have a red 1980's phone booth. It's in the back of the hearse right now because there is no room for it on the boat.
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid! I watched it so many times and never got sick of it but I also was crushing on Keanu bad!
Please do a reaction to Devil’s Advocate it stars Keanu and Al Pacino
Very similar vibe to this movie too.
Watch all three! Watch all three!! Watch all three!!! Watch all three!!!! Every movie is unique and at the same time bonkers, but deserved to be watched. Not to mention the trilogy is basically past, present, and future.
That song they were playing in the mall was the band Extreme “play with me”!
A great classic and seeing Keanu smiling and having fun is awesome.
Actor's name is "Hal Landon Jr."
"The Consul's Car," was the case he appeared in.
Love this movie so much. And as much as I love it, I love the sequel just as much. Hope you guys give it a watch, too!
That awesome song is called Play with Me by Extreme. A way better song than More Than Words which has been played to death on the radio. 🤘
The Beethoven piano scene is actually Nuno Bettencourt from the band Extreme playing the guitar piece "flight of the bumblebee"... he's a really good guitarist!!!
It's Play With Me, Flight of the (Wounded) Bumblebee is a different Bettencourt/Extreme track.
8:52 ok, you get points for that one. That was quick and hilarious.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail for this one I got excited, I knew you were gonna love this movie.
There are 2 sequels to this movie. Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey and Bill & Ted Face the Music
another under rated Keanu movie, Parenthood, only supporting actor, but not to be missed.
This makes me so happy that y'all are watching it!
“You want a Twinkie Genghis Khan?” always has me dying.
This is so nostalgic I love it. It was such a funny movie. By the way in that movie, Joan of Arc was played by Jane Weidlin of the Go Go's
The song from the mall scene is Play with Me by Extreme.
The song while in the mall is Play With Me by Extreme.
Bogus Journey is a most excellent sequel, dudes.
The song at the mall was Play With Me by Extreme.
WHAAAAT!?!! You’ve never seen Bill and Ted!?!! Classic!!
This isn't my favorite movie you've watched, but it's now my favorite one to watch along. The fun you had watching it was infectious.
I’m having a crappy week so far and your reaction was exactly what I needed. You guys crack me up! Thanks for reacting to this movie, it was one of my favourites as a teenager!
Now you have to watch "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" & "Bill & Ted Face The Music" 😁👍🎸🎸
I love how Bill and Ted are ‘idiots’ but still using language like bodacious, and egregious properly.😂
10 Points! & Nothing but Net! 19:19
I knew you weren't going to show it, but I wanted to see your reaction when they hugged in medieval England. 😂😂😂😂
"Whoa! The French can fight?!" 😂😂 thank you for that one
Another special note is that Keanu ask for an autograph from George Carlin. Which he did.....it said "Keanu, f**k you." Waiting for you guys to watch the second movie.
"That lady in the car said" lol Gen x Google 😂
Sigmund Freud introduces himself holding a corn dog, lol
OMG! I forgot how *fun* this movie is. Watching you watch it for the first time is a treat.
Most triumphant! thanks for reacting to this. So glad you guys enjoyed it. I hope you get to watch the trilogy!
⭐ FANTASTIC REACTIONS!
⭐ THE 1ST SEQUEL IS GREAT!
⭐ ORIGINALLY TO BE CALLED:
⭐ 'BILL & TED GO TO HELL'
⭐ FOOLISH MARKETING EXECS SAID:
⭐ "NO, THAT WON'T WORK IN THE BIBLE BELT!"
⭐ RESULTANT NAME: 'BILL & TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY'
⭐ THE 2ND SEQUEL: I STOPPED WATCHING 30 MINS IN.
I saw this theatrically, and the only thing I knew about it going in was that George Carlin was in it. I have loved it ever since. If you would’ve told me, Keanu Reeves would become one of the biggest movie stars in the world 30 years later, I wouldn’t have believed it. Lol.
Definitely need to do the sequel
