It's amazing how many folks don't understand why the quad player is grooving the way he is. That's how showband drummers groove to their cadences, They don't just stand stiff like corps drummers.
Army all the way....they worked the crowd and had fun with it....drumlines are supposed to have fun while showing off their skills....this is not a funeral but a celebration of artistry!
i grew up in annapolis i was at the naval academy every single after school i have seen some bad ass snare drummers come and go i remember this one cat name douglas mckinny who took me under his wing navy drum line was sick they was untouchable 1979 to 1986 i will never for get it.
Hey Army drum line, you dont keep time with your feet and your timing is all over the place, notice the navy does and they are right on. Keeping time with feet is the most basic part of playing marching music! so MARCH! My old instructers would have eaten you alive!
Elissa Kinsey that's supposed to be stands music it really doesn't matter if they sound good its supposed to be noise its not meant to be in time trust me im in marching band staying in time helps in stands music but its not that important
I love the black guy on the tenors, the entire drumline is playin while standing very still, then u see him and he's like break dancin while playin. He is the definition of cool
Army due to the fact that the tenors for the navy were out of sync the entire first half of the battle. As for the Army tenor, he is the best drumming tenor in this battle. Plus drumline is supposed to be fun and rhythmic not stuck up and stiff.
the black guy was totally rocking out on those quads like a pro it was awesome to see someone actually having fun playing in one of these bands cause most of these guys looked angry
They both were good, The navy stood out a little bit more on being " uniform " as one. Which I think is the biggest part of being a drumline. It's all drums as one, not 1 standing out from the others!
Thanks for posting, this was pretty enjoyable... don't know why it's in a parking garage, but cool anyway. My vote: Navy - crisper sound/uniforms ... no dancing.
plus for you people that don't know... there is no attention during play. you're supposed to have fun. otherwise whats the point? the only time you need to stand at attention is after you've finished playing. I agree completely with Season Zero Yami.
@@aprilstegall6002 Although I respect the energy coming out of the Army here, I think because of how the Navy is so clean AS WELL AS being in FULL DRESS UNIFORM cleans this competition up in their favor.
Well, I do appreciate it - was at the KRAB in 06 and was thankful for you guys. In this video, I responded more to the Navy in it but the Army did kick Navy's butt in the other Drumline video - the one filmed at the Linc in Philly.
I vote Navy, mostly because they have a similar version to one of my school's cadences (funny how they go around, isn't it?), but also because of the tenor that broke the tone of the line as he was taken away by his own energy.
I love the Navy's tom section solo in the first song, and if I was going to be a judge i'd have trouble deciding who won. Both of the drumlins were very well syncopated, and they have difficult and interesting songs each. And you'd think being a percussionist would help you decide.
To be a bit more accurate... Navy had the technique, the precision. They were sharp, clean. Army had the groove down though, no doubt. I'm not just talking about the guy near the camera, I'm talking about the whole line. The way they play and the rhythm that they create just makes you want to dance more. Like I said though, evenly matched in a lot of areas. This one's tough to call.
That was my point, hence the (see Naval Academy) portion of my comment. So how can anyone have a competition, friendly or otherwise, against the Marine Corps since they are all midshipmen until graduation?
This is all in fun and I would be proud to have any one of them covering my six. I give the first round to the Navy and the second round to the Army. But The Ohio State University Buckeye Band has the BDBITL. Go Army, Go Bucks!
That's really cool you want to learn. There are several things you can use to learn. One thing you'll need is a pair of marching snare drum sticks. Vic Firth sells them as corpsmaster sticks. The next step is to learn basic rudiments. Google "basic rudiments" and click on the Vic Firth. That might help you. Practice until you're able to play all of them at any speed. Rudiments are really great builders, and a lot of marching music is basically rudiments, so get those down and you should be set.
all my thoughts and prayers towards those brave men and women abroad who play the symbols tirelessly day and night so that we don't have to ever hear it here.
I'm going to join the navy as soon as I'm done with high school but the guy on the left with the army has SOO much groove in it whoooo go military!!!!!
The Navy and the Department of the Navy are the finest soldiers and sailors a country could ever hope for. But the Army, Airforce, and Cost-Guard all deserve great respect and reverence from all Americans. They all serve our country, all branches fight for America.
For all of you saying the Marines won, I pose a quick question for you all. Why would USNA split in half to do a drum battle. For those of you who don't know, USNA has marines AND navy. They both did very well.
Ayyy that first one is the Texas Kick-off cadence xD (also, sorry if it's a more common thing, I just happened to have heard it there in some other video)
Gatta give it to the Navy. They kept their composure better :) The one army guy closest to the camera was moving a lot more then the others. Both sides had amazing rhythms, though.
They still took the first one though ... Lol. Love it. Your second was alright. Lol And they took it on their second. Haha. Lol love it. You both are great by the way. Vanessa
Man, that 1st Army tenor drummer made my fucking day. Looked like he was having the time of his life, and sounded amazing, too.
I love how the black guy gets so into it... Lovin his job
He's moving because he also FEELS the music! I couldn't help but sit here and bob my head and tap a foot keeping in time.
This is the same army drumline that played with the airforce on another video!
It's amazing how many folks don't understand why the quad player is grooving the way he is. That's how showband drummers groove to their cadences, They don't just stand stiff like corps drummers.
Why is he the only one?
He's Army. No discipline or pride in appearance. Great playing though.
When you play amazingly AND are standing perfectly still at attention, it is just THAT much more impressive.
that army guy got lots of swag! lol!
Such tradition!! Love the Army/Navy game as well.
Army all the way....they worked the crowd and had fun with it....drumlines are supposed to have fun while showing off their skills....this is not a funeral but a celebration of artistry!
Hell, the army sure has a great rhythm
What about the Navy?
The Navy sounds tight!
Navy always sounds tight. :)
Fist_Full_ Of_BACONhi!
Fist_Full_ Of_BACON! yt? Nu
Don't
The tenor player on the army side is so into it lol
i grew up in annapolis i was at the naval academy every single after school i have seen some bad ass snare drummers come and go i remember this one cat name douglas mckinny who took me under his wing navy drum line was sick they was untouchable 1979 to 1986 i will never for get it.
navy, hands down! they are tight, move as a unit and the timing is impeccable.
Hey Army drum line, you dont keep time with your feet and your timing is all over the place, notice the navy does and they are right on. Keeping time with feet is the most basic part of playing marching music! so MARCH! My old instructers would have eaten you alive!
Totally, they were MUCH more disciplined than Army.
Elissa Kinsey that's supposed to be stands music it really doesn't matter if they sound good its supposed to be noise its not meant to be in time trust me im in marching band staying in time helps in stands music but its not that important
+Elissa Kinsey But which had more fun
I love the black guy on the tenors, the entire drumline is playin while standing very still, then u see him and he's like break dancin while playin. He is the definition of cool

this is how we do in the army
Midshipmen all day long!! Who else comes to a battle in full formal attire and destroys the enemy? Navy/Marine Corps team
Semper Fi, USMC Ret
the black guy was totally rocking out on those quads like a pro it was awesome to see someone actually having fun playing in one of these bands cause most of these guys looked angry
I love how the Navy is in dress uniform while the Army is in utilities
That particular black boy on the left is fucking hilarious!....
That's typically me when I play the snare in marching band too! Gotta get into it! Haha
They both were good, The navy stood out a little bit more on being " uniform " as one. Which I think is the biggest part of being a drumline. It's all drums as one, not 1 standing out from the others!
NO FUCK YOU BITCH!!! (read his name) 😝😝
😂😂😂
Let's just appreciate the guys/gals - Go military - we appreciate all you do!!
we all have that one friend at the front
I KNOW RIGHT
He was feeling it....I was feeling it with him
Thanks for posting, this was pretty enjoyable... don't know why it's in a parking garage, but cool anyway.
My vote: Navy - crisper sound/uniforms ... no dancing.

Levyen Saunders you are EXACTLY right you ARE supposed to have swagg during a drumline battle!!! Army wins it hands down!!!!
@@aprilstegall6002 Although I respect the energy coming out of the Army here, I think because of how the Navy is so clean AS WELL AS being in FULL DRESS UNIFORM cleans this competition up in their favor.
you se, I like it when people have fun while playing the drums, not all stone faced. These guys ere great, dancin and everything.
Navy wins. More composed plus doing it in full dress uniform.
Well, I do appreciate it - was at the KRAB in 06 and was thankful for you guys. In this video, I responded more to the Navy in it but the Army did kick Navy's butt in the other Drumline video - the one filmed at the Linc in Philly.
the tenor drum player closest to the camera was rocking out
they are both awesome for the simple fact that all of these ladies and gentlemen are going on to serve our country.
Army has the energy, Navy was clean…… Army won!
I vote Navy, mostly because they have a similar version to one of my school's cadences (funny how they go around, isn't it?), but also because of the tenor that broke the tone of the line as he was taken away by his own energy.
Lol, u could tell that army guy swagged it out with a hbcu-style band some time in his life.
With these beats im surprised everybody doesn't just break out dancing
I love the Navy's tom section solo in the first song, and if I was going to be a judge i'd have trouble deciding who won. Both of the drumlins were very well syncopated, and they have difficult and interesting songs each. And you'd think being a percussionist would help you decide.
Squids win every time! Perfect posture. Professionalism and precision. Never lack luster! Awesome!
To be a bit more accurate... Navy had the technique, the precision. They were sharp, clean. Army had the groove down though, no doubt. He's the best part!
All the branches are to scared to face USMC drumline lol
The Marine Corps has it's own academy? When did that happen. (see Naval Academy)
Jeff Fleck True story.
Actually the USMC doesn't have a Academy because they're apart of the Naval Academy so the guy who said it was right.
That was my point, hence the (see Naval Academy) portion of my comment. So how can anyone have a competition, friendly or otherwise, against the Marine Corps since they are all midshipmen until graduation?
I did see that i was referring to the guy who posted the messege though not towards you
This is all in fun and I would be proud to have any one of them covering my six. I give the first round to the Navy and the second round to the Army. But The Ohio State University Buckeye Band has the BDBITL. Go Army, Go Bucks!
i think the army played a more upbeat song but the navys routine was a bit more technical and became really developed over time.
There's no losers in this drum-off!!
I kept watching that one guy from the Army! He was getting so into it! haha
The cadence the Andy played is called Ruben's. The high school I attended played it, but we played it differently.
I would give this to the Army. I just felt like they were better and that they did know what they were doing.
to be fair that guy rocked
Drummers are the master race.
Navy crushed this. Way to go.
I like how the tenor colors correspond to the players' skin color.
That's really cool you want to learn. There are several things you can use to learn. One thing you'll need is a pair of marching snare drum sticks. Vic Firth sells them as corpsmaster sticks. black army dude got me fucking rolling
all my thoughts and prayers towards those brave men and women abroad who play the symbols tirelessly day and night so that we don't have to ever hear it here.
Navy won the football game, I see. And they sure as hell won the DRUM-OFF!
I love how the black soldier playing the tenors closet to the camera in the Army is getting into it while everybody else is playing in set.
You just got served!! Another 5 years into service
the navy has the same exact drum the my drumline has!
SWEET
Navy just looks more classy
Both sound great!
WOW! Navy so powerful!
yeah, thats another factor too, but I've heard many groups that play indoors (WGI) and they play in very echoy rooms and still sound great.
That first song is a classic at a Lufkin Football game!
former army myself, but I gotta say midshipmen owned this one. dude on the end had some swag, but that's about it.
Go Navy! I appreciated and respected their professionalism and class.
Love the sound of tenors In the morning. Hooyah go navy.
The Army looks undisciplined, because they ARE undisciplined. The Navy and Marine Corps are held to a higher standard.
Why don't you just enjoy the video?
The second half is where it's at! I hope it gets posted some time too. Go Navy!
I like how every Army drummer is standing perfectly still.... and then there's that one guy closest to the camera.... damn plebes.
I have to give it to the Navy, because I only saw a couple of them flip their sticks :-) Both were awesome!
both are amazing
I'm saving this for my Navy vet hubby who loves drumline
army killed it!
Hehehe... The Army's 2nd second cadence was from the movie drumline.. Can't remember which school/scene.
it looks really fun to be in a military drumline
I believe Pat was referring to the drumlines being shut up. Cavs are a DCI corps.
For all of you saying the Marines won, I pose a quick question for you all. Why would USNA split in half to do a drum battle. For those of you who don't know, USNA has marines AND navy. They both did very well.
Are the tenor players rocking "The Macarena" at 2:25?
his chops though, are great. what do you play for the mostpart
Ayyy that first one is the Texas Kick-off cadence xD (also, sorry if it's a more common thing, I just happened to have heard it there in some other video)
he's just jammin out..... :)
Lmao, it cracks me up that the black guy right in front of the camera is the only one really bobbing his head and rocking out XD
Anyone else noticed the tenors in the Army?
Black guys have the black drums while the white guys have the white ones. LOL :v
THATS RACIST!
IAMAWESOME how is it racist if he's stating what the army tenors are holding.
Anthony Palermo LMAO
Navy all the way! All of the Navy are on the same timing and beat! Check the stick movements. BUT I GOT LOVE FOR ALL OUR TROOPS. . Thank you ;^)
he's loving the music XD
Gatta give it to the Navy. They kept their composure better :) The one army guy closest to the camera was moving a lot more then the others. Both sides had amazing rhythms, though.
i dig that first navy cadence. i wanna see if i can get my drumline to do it
need more cowbell! lol
I SAY ARMY WINS, THAT GUY REALLY GETS INTO IT!!
Excellent drumming...
From both parties.....
I may be bias as a Navy Vet but the Midshipmen nail it! Awesome job!
They sound amazing.
We need this in Australia!!
They still took the first one though ... Lol.
Love it.
Your second was alright.
Lol
And they took it on their second. Haha. Lol love it.
You both are great by the way.
Vanessa
army stick heights look great but please remember to Relax and have fun
That Fully American Camaro behind the Navy though...
Where are they? In a parking garage or the bowels of some great floating disaster?
As an Army vet the Navy kept it clean and their composure.
That second one from Army sounded like one of the ones used in the movie "Drumline."
Just an observation.
that's what you call dedication!
Nice job Army.... Was not expecting an HBCU style cadence but aye if it works do it. HOOAH!
