    Conch Pearl has been a scuba diving charter vessel in the Florida Keys for 20 years. She's a commercial boat with a current COI that can be used as either a stream of income, a cruising boat, or both.
    I really liked this boat, and I think she has a lot to offer. She's a go anywhere, in any weather, type of boat - the type of boat you would take to the high latitudes without question.
    I can see her being used as an expedition charter vessel, kind of like Skip Novak's boats, or I could see her continue on her legacy of dive charters in the Florida Keys or Caribbean. I could also see an owner pick her up for personal cruising. The possibilities are endless.
    The biggest advantages of this boat in my opinion are the pilothouse, the engine room, the flush deck layout, and the schooner rig. The biggest disadvantage I could see is the lack of portlights down below.

    This would be the ultimate party boat for guys only! Aaaah, the owner's berth right behind the engine. I guess the rhythmic vibes of the diesel engine helps you fall asleep. _So charming and rustic!_ Also I wouldn't call that a seteé. It's "the place to chow-down". You'd have to be a welder to make any changes to the layout of this boat. The price is awesome, but the boat...
    LOL, I can't believe you said "the stuff of dreams". I would say "the stuff of strange and bizarre nightmares". It reminds me of being on "The Nostromo" from the first "Alien" movie. It probably has a self-destruct system as well. This boat is a commercial boat, and not made for luxury in any way, shape or form. It's strictly utilitarian. But, for someone with the know-how and proper tools, it could be converted into a tough-as-nails mega cruiser. This boat is so water tight, you could probably sail right through a hurricane - no problem! "Go around the storm? Hell no, we're plowing right through"! The passengers probably wouldn't even realize it if you keep them drunk enough. My first priority would be to build a bar!🍸 🍺
    If I had the money in the bank right here and now, I'd definitely buy it!

    Schooners can have up to seven masts, but typically have three: fore, main, and mizzen. The foremast is shorter than the mainmast and is closer to the front of the boat, while the mainmast is closer to the back. The sails on each mast have their own names.
    The two masts on a two-masted schooner are called the foremast and the mainmast, with the mainmast usually being taller. The foremast is the forward mast, and the two masts can be of equal size or the mainmast can be higher

    As someone else has said, privacy would be hard to have down below. I am also wondering about the lighting below decks. It seems to me that day or night you'd have to have lights on down there. That draws power from the batteries if the engine/generator isn't on. Also that oven/stove may have been gimbaled bow to stern but it couldn't have pivoted starboard to port. So, either this boat is very "flat" while sailing or things don't get cooked while underway. Other than those things it was an interesting craft.

There were only a few of these made and I know its this one as I remember cutting down the Bowsprit with a jigsaw in the boatyard. It has gone through a great transformation since then as it was a very basic dive boat back then. Good to see its still floating and looks like it will for many years to come.

    I think it’s more of a work boat not a sailors sailboat. I’m not sure if the certification is transferable to a new owner. The buyer maybe required to bringing it up to code. That could be expensive. But it’s a pretty boat.

    • @bdphourde
      @bdphourde 2 года назад +1

      The USCG COI (Certificate of Inspection) is for the boat, not the owner. It certifies it safe for the carrying of passengers. It is good for 5 years. It would ONLY need to be re-certified if the new owner planned to carry passengers for hire.The owner would need a Captain's License to carry passengers for hire. A boat can be for what ever purpose you put it to. In this case it has served as both cruiser and a charter boat. You configure it for what it needs to serve its purpose.

    The boat is all as you say! The price is most likely way below original price but it’s still expensive. Unless you plan to use as a charter boat the sleeping bunks would not be good for a smaller group of 4 to 6 folks. I would also want stand up showers vs wet ones as it has. With the price where it is stated, would only be the starting price but if you started off as a charter vessel you can put off remodeling for private use.

    Obviously the boat is not set up for "yachting". The limited space for privacy is not a concern for working crew i imagine. I wonder how many would be required to sail this boat? All the rigging is traditional and would require some hands to hoist the sails. As a scuba charter where do the passengers hang out on deck during passage? Sit on the boxes? I'm not experienced in boats like this one and so please help me understand. I really would like to know. I'm sure I missed something. And the main salon head was a masterpiece for sure. Thanks for sharing this beautiful boat.

    Great steel hull vessel. It would be easy to think 'she' was indestructable, especially from some of the comments but we all know much bigger vessels have founded on reefs and sunk. As for functionality, a omplete refit would be necessary in the region of maybe $100 to $150k to make this a proper live aboard cruiser. Ok as a commercial vessel as is but to expensive with all the refit work needed. Thanks for the tour.

      @clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 2 года назад +1

      Its probably 4seasons insulated that works both ways
      and has no portholes currently by the look but lots of ventilation .. air con shouldn't be an issue if it hasnt as you could fit stand alone units in each living area. Plus you can build a seawater heat exchanger system in that engine room. DIYSolar thermal heat ing panels on deck and you can build up shower hot water for use all day .. wind turbines aft ....noise wont be a problem with this beasty.

  • @clivestainlesssteelwomble7665
    @clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 2 года назад +11

    This is a proper mini tall Ship ...I like the Portuguese bridge deflector for the deck ahead of the pilot house.. like the build it shouts this boat can withstand a N Atlantic winter storm or passing the Capes.. but would need a crew without some automation of the sails... On a par with Alluring Artics ..Exlorer Yatch
    Theres a hand rail and step over port side..of the piolet house and starboard could be converted to have a forward swinging door for fast forward access as per Portuguese bridges.
    Perfect for an explorer family live aboard.. lovely traditional style vessel.
    At that price compared to whats available new ..its seems a great buy for a lifetime afloat.
    The steel alone would probably cost more currently.
    Minor tweaks and you have a superb live aboard to start with that can take you anywhere 🌐⛵
    The magnetic compasses say it all ...kitted with big steel ⚽s 😍😉😁 lol.
    I could also see this become a marine conservation/whalewatch/scientific platform for a maritime studies Group.

    Wow, so a boat with a limited commercial capability. What I mean by this is the draft is too deep for many places in the Caribbean, but if you moved it up to the inland passage area of Canada, and set it up for taking people out for fishing over a two week period, then I can see the appeal. A lot of work has gone into it, but so much would have to be undone depending on how you want to use it. For a family, while underway, there is only room for one, maybe two, in an area where they would not be subject to wind and rain. Everyone else would be on deck in the full elements. In Florida, not a big deal most of the time. Everywhere else it is a bigger issue. Overall, a nice boat with a confused purpose.

    On any two masted Schooner the main mast is the larger aft sail and the foremast has the smaller secondary sail. I would have to rebuild the owners quarters and shut it off from the smells and fumes of the engine room. The purpose of this boat would have been better on a catamaran. Schooners don't make good dive boats IMHO, they make excellent tour boats or live aboard vessels if you like mono hulls. I love schooners and fast catamarans!

    It is missing a cockpit. People would have to sit on the life jacket boxes or on the deckhouse. On a boat that big there should be somewhere with a proper large comfy cockpit with deep seats with back support and outside steering. Other than that, she's nice. I'm not sure I like the lay-out with the circuitous route to the pilot house having to go through the engine room to access it or climb over that giant coaming to get to it - especially if that is the only way to get to the helm! There should be doors built in to that coaming and additional outside steering.

How much does it cost to go diving for a weekend or a week from a vessel like this? Whats that big metal thing on the port side?

      It’s a ladder for scuba divers to board the boat easily. It goes deep in the water and is sturdy with hand rails on both sides of the ladder.

    About $260,000 if it passes a survey. Needs about another $50,000 to make it look real nice including the engine room. And for my own taste, another $15,000 for a bow Thruster and an AC. I definitely do not like the self tacking jib so I would change it for a bowsprit mounted roller furled Genoa and another roller furled jib. I would redo the owner's cabin and the main cabin and I would throw away about 2 tons of junk in the boat. The condition of the sails is unknown. Otherwise I love the old sail ship flavor.

    Like it but over 50' foot is more going through the Panama canal. Why didn't America insisted on American free passage through. Before relinquishing control ?

    I think this boat has a lot of safety features but not worth the asking price. I would love to see more of that pretty daughter again.

    Well, not my cup of tea. It is designed to pack people but where are you going to entertain? There does not seem to be a lot of seating option. They could remove the bunks near the galley to offer a social area. The best parts are the heads which look more inviting than the rest of the boat.

    I feel like some wood flooring in the top deck would really bring up the appeal and make it look less commercially
