Paul, I make these as well for saltwater bottom fishing. I found that by using a propane torch and heating up the area where I plan to drill cherry red, that the drill goes through like butter. I cheat and use my plasma cutter to QUICKLY cut off the excess blade material. Then profile the edge with an air die grinder fitted with 80 grit sanding disk. The polish the hell out of the entire surface and cut edge on a buffing wheel. This greatly reduces the rust potential when used in the saltwater environment. Some get a little reflective sticker material added to one side for more flash, as well.
One thing I learned really quick as that I do NOT like two hooks. The first few times I used my knife jigs and caught fish, I found that the fish were usually only hooked with one of the hooks. The other seemed to find my hand as the fish was whipping around pissed off. Dropping down to a single hook didn't reduce my hookup/catch rate at all. The byproduct of using a single assist hook now allows me to safely grab the jig with one hand and use as a handle to lift the caught fish into my lap while kayak fishing.
    Good stuff!

you are probably right about the one hook thing, i had some bought jigs I was given and they had four hooks which seemed a bit over the top, i ended cutting the back two assist hooks off as they were a nightmare to handle

Hello Paul, greetings from Peru... I like to do these kind of lures too. Casting from the shores, I have had very good success for fishing lots of saltwater fish with my Attila Slim. My setup is a little different than yours. I had to drill two holes at both ends (Which is very hard due the steel that are made the knives), and I also use the assist hook with a Fly set in one of the two hooks. Most of my caught were done with the "flyed" hook. Thanks for sharing your video, I will try your setup in one of my Attilas Slim.

Nice job! If you were to bend one of those knife handles into the shape of an "s", that would give it some very lively action. I make small spoons out of various things like spinner blades, and put such a bend into them. Also if you were to use ripple spinner blades as a spoon blank, you don't need to make any bends, because the ripples give it a similar action. Just glue 2 or 3 of them together for extra weight, and drill holes, and add hooks.

i think if i could of bent them knife handles into an S this would be the worlds strongest man channel. They did have a nice action it was just a shame i did not get any underwater footage of them, i have used lighter lures with a s shape and they do make a nice swimming action, cheers

Hello Paul, Thanks for producing yet another cracking video Fella, Guess where I'm off to after watching this video again? Yep! eBay
The Pollock looked great specimens & also the 2 Mackerel which proved your theory, that they will attack almost anything including just the hooks, even if their hanging of the end of an old knife! "Great Work, Well Done"

I find that as well you go the extra mile making a lure and some days the fish do not care about all that effort, ungrateful little slimy things, thanks
