One of the best fishing lures DIY videos i have ever seen! Really impressive taking the time and commitment to make it. A work of art none the less and a pretty kick ass lure if you ask me, this would kill it in deep sea salt water fishing by the way it looks! Thumbs up to you my friend! 👍🏼
hi. thanks for the Video. I just broke a spoon, and I wanted to know how to make a lure that I learned it thanks to you. but a question: was that second loose hook necessary and the tag end?
S.s. Means stainless steel, If you jig for bluefish you can lose your lure with one cast, so I don't put that much finishing tape the shine from the metal handle is more then enough but your did come out great Mine look great too
Big Al yea I have fished with them, mostly get some jack and lady fish, the fi fish held up very well the teeth only leave small scratches in the finish but didn't take away from the reflection.
hello fishing instincts, I'm kinda new to the whole make your own lure type deal, just wondering what tool you used to wrap the line around the straw? cheers
I used flytying line ,its lightly waxed for grip and usually you can buy it at any fishing supply store,if not amazon sells kits complete with bobbin holder and line.
Arun Vijayan when I get the opportunity to go fishing I'm out there and I think lures with circle hooks work just as well as treble hooks do it's just easier to get the fish off
Goo lure but if you do it again I recommend for a diamond which is what u made put a standard j hook not a circle hook a circle hook is more for bait not lure
Hello FishingInstict... I do my own spoonflies from knives as well... where did you buy that hologram transfer foil??? I am looking for it since very long time ago, but I have not yet the chance to find it. What I got from Amazon were small transfer foils used for girls nails (many colours and designs) but what I need is the silver one that you are using. I want it for my wooden lures and my lures restoration works... Would you please tell my where to buy that silver roll?? thank you in advanced, Antonio
Hello Antonio I bought the transfer foil from Michael's craft store, I think it's for gift wrap, I'm sad to say though that I have tried again after that day to find it but I haven't had much luck.
antonio999us Antonio, you can also use cheap gift bags that have a reflective/holographic finish. You just need to soak the cut up bag in water to release the holographic film from the paper backing! Very inexpensive that way.
Cool video. Search youtube for foiling crankbaits. You will find a technique to add scales and multiply the lights output from the flash foil. All you need is a piece of pet store fish netting from those cheap green scoop nets and you can massage the flash over it to add true 3d scales.
it's a surf lure for where I live, I usually catch red snappers, drum, snook, lady fish and sometimes pompano. I saw it a while ago from another fisherman , so I had to try it and it's amazing it casts like a rocket, and it's very fun.
If he had cut the music and explained what he was doing it would have been a good video. and people would not ask a 100 questions. I guess that was a UV light, who knows.
Jarrod H one thing I love about making lures is that you don't need to follow anything specific when making them, and the aluminum tape allows for the holograph to adhere to the polished metal surface, in Florida a lot of fish won't just follow a plain silver lure, the added color differences allow for it to reflect light in deeper water column where certain colors are no longer visible.
Thank for that. I understand the extra attraction, but I just wasn't aware of the extra adhesion that the aluminium tape allows for. It's a good looking lure by the way.
ok thanks. great videos btw. you think there is any way to make them heavier? or just find a heavier butter knife? I was wanting something around 6-8 ounces.
Jesmine Diaz there could be a way to make it heavier but you would have to change it a lot, I made a similar knife jig that I'm going to put up but its a full lead casting.
J P. .25 is actually just the sheath of my carving knive, the holographic foil in question is called holographic minc foil I get it online form joans fabrics the last part of it is just sanding the area that you want to apply the holograph clean it real well apply wood grade rubber cement and apply the back side of the foil it will naturally come off. If you have any more questions I'll be happy to answer.

I gave up watching video @ 7:12 it's gonna take forever 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I think this guy spend way more time n money for this lure I think that might b his passion toward fishing
Mark Rodrigues you are 100%correct I love fishing I do it when I can and make lures for when I can't. And realistic it it was 50 cents spent on the lure most of it is just stuff I had around the house but thanks for watching.
Depends on the goal i suppose. Are you you looking for simple and cheap spoon replacements? Then yes, it is too much work IMO. But if you are trying to make an AMAZING piece of art lure that would run 10 to 30 dollars then this is actually quite reasonable.
Meh. If your heart AND soul is into fishing, if it's been thought from a small kid - thinking about native traditions - and you have enough free time (no partner, no kids)... I'd say 'why not'. Some people love to make their own lures - think about fly fishing by the way - and some people just like to take it the easy way and go buy their pre-made lures.

Opaque Flake it's flashabou and any fly tying material store should have it
Awesome
What was the thing with the spool called that he used to wrap around the rope
have you fished with them? how well did epoxy coating held up to abrasion from rocks and fish teeth?
Big Al yea I have fished with them, mostly get some jack and lady fish, the fi fish held up very well the teeth only leave small scratches in the finish but didn't take away from the reflection.
Pretty nice. Tho I would have swapped out the nylon cord for braided steel leader.
Hello. Can you tell me where you got that hair used for the lure?
Interesting video...I like it. Where do you get the foil to cover the handle. Need more vids. Thank you.
J P thanks for watching and it's called minc foil
What is the paper (prism colors) that you put on the spoon and what is the glue?

Wayne Hiscock thank you
How to make a lure from a butterknife- spends 10 minutes tying a fly
Vr good
Can you please tell me where you got it from and the plastic knife u used to make it stick to the lure. Thanks
J P it's all in the preparation of the foil, apply aluminium air duct foil clean it then use wood grade rubber cement and apply the minc foil

I used flytying line ,its lightly waxed for grip and usually you can buy it at any fishing supply store,if not amazon sells kits complete with bobbin holder and line.
I think the bobbin holder is about 5 bucks but you can make one from a pen , 2.5 mm wire and two beads .
FishingInstinctsSRQ thanks a bunch and thanks for the quick reply, earned a sub!

Nicely done. I will not froget to subscribe :)
Hello Friend ... I ask what the name of the paper is flourishing, hug ...
Do you happen to fish with this? Kind of curious to know how a circle hook performs on a lure.
Arun Vijayan when I get the opportunity to go fishing I'm out there and I think lures with circle hooks work just as well as treble hooks do it's just easier to get the fish off
Wow !!! Perfect:-(
Goo lure but if you do it again I recommend for a diamond which is what u made put a standard j hook not a circle hook a circle hook is more for bait not lure

I'm just wondering why you covered a silver knife with silver 'tape' and then covered that with the holographic 'tape'.
