- Supplies:
Yarn: amzn.to/31hsWqK
Crochet Hook: amzn.to/32fW1ED
Scissors: amzn.to/2pnaorS
Hair Tie: amzn.to/2Be7KY8
Directions:
1. Create a slip knot and place it on your hook.
2. Place the hook through the center of your hair tie with the working yarn on the outside, yo and pull the yarn through to the front.
3. YO and pull through both loops on your hook.
4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 around hair tie until you have as many stitches as will fit. The more stitches the more ruffly and full your scrunchie will be!
5. Sl st to join your first round of single crochet stitches.
6. Ch 2
7. DC three times into each single crochet stitch around then Sl st to join.
8. Ch 1
9. SC through each double crochet stitch around, then Sl st to join. Cut yarn leaving about 5″ and weave in ends.
For thinner yarn, I definitely recommend doing the above pattern.
For chunkier yarn do 1 row of TC all around, Sl st to join, tie off and weave in ends.
Faux fur yarn: I did one row of DC around, Sl st to join, tie it off and weave in ends.

What does vscos mean?
Loved the cat random appearances. Mine assist with crochet projects too.
Same
Yes how to be vsco when you’re poor
LOL Honestly I think it's probably less expensive to just buy a scrunchie! :)
Creating a scrunchie yourself definitely makes a lot more special because you’re the one who made it
Yarn is kind of expensive
@@Tajjeeralak I don't buy new yarn anymore, I just unravel sweaters from the thrift store! Sooo much cheaper lol
@@gjungart ikr that’s where I get my own from or Amazon
This is my first project I made and it came out so cute!!! I only learn to crochet 3 days ago so thought I would start with something small and I love it! I’m going to make more 😁
Crocheted for a while but wanted to learn
how to actually do/make something.
I loved the tutorial & idea, they turned out beautiful. The only thing I wish was different was that you showed them in someone's hair.
I absolutely love this because I think it’s a great gift for my little sister since she like little wrist jewelry’s thanks for this amazing tutorial
"I just messed up and now I'm cranky" is the real tea
I absolutely loved these scrunchies - the yarn is scrumptious! I was so inspired that I included your project in a roundup post on my website about beginner crochet projects. Thanks for sharing your skills with the community! Keep up the fantastic work. 😊
I can definitely empathize with having a cat who insists on being involved in everything lol
Mine just sits and stares at me and I'm viscerally reminded that cats are technically predators 😅
Helps so much cuz I’m a beginner
Good thought! They are also so cute! I will have to try to make one sometime!
Thank you so much! I am 12 years old and I just made my first crochet project because of you! Mine took six hours but I'm so proud of myself. Thanks so much for making my dreams come true.
thank you!! I am still learning to crochet and this tutorial was informative and easy to follow :)
Love the video. I crocheted my first scrunchie.
I'm a knitting person and I couldn't figure out crochet for the life of me, this tutorial was literally the perfect beginner's project and now I have the cutest scrunchie, I can't wait to make a dozen more
me too:))))))
Thank you, so easy. 💕💕💕
This is the first crochet project I will do when I get yarn. Do you have any tips on crochet?
I love that you guys hold your hooks differently
Used to crochet a ton of these for my daughters and their friends when they were younger. Now I make them for my granddaughter. Like someone else stated, great for stash busters that are not enough to make another project with.
Stash busters are exactly what I need! I am soooo greatful for this!!!
Thank you for your help ❤
Loved this tutorial! My daughter has started wanting more scrunchies and now I can just make them!
I usually don’t comment but I was getting so frustrated trying to learn to crochet but your video helped so much! Thank you for sharing! I appreciate it so much!!
Ask The Holy spirit to help you crochet. It works for me.
@@methatlovescats3602 😂😂😂😂
Finally! Something that's ACTUALLY beginner friendly!
we used to have a dog who figured out how to turn door nobs with her paws.
I had a dog who ate through dry wall from the garage to the laundry room
Omg this is so cute. I learned chrochet from my mom as a kid, but never do it anymore. But I am definately going to do this!
Thank you so much for sharing, it was a very helpful video, you are both really lovely🥰
Love the cat!! He settled down and fell asleep. I have Tuxedo cats too. They are really the best!
Lovely tutorial! I am actually making a bunch of these for my nieces, sister, daughter’s teachers... So I really appreciate the extra tip for using super bulky yarn & trebles! Super cute & sweet girl + cat. I’ll share this with my daughter, maybe she’ll be inspired to crochet with me 💝
Thank you much, very helpful tutorial!
Lovin the cat! My cat tried to help once but all he managed to do is chase the ball of yarn all over the living room and dining area 🤦🏽♀️ this is a cute idea
Thanks for sharing.
I absolutely love that you have included your daughter in this tutorial! Also love that she is crocheting as well! Keep crafting sweetheart it is an amazing talent to have!!!
I’m legit the only one who doesn’t know how to do this. I crochet before, but for some silly reason I just do not understand
Edit: after a month decided to do this again, I did it and it worked! Definitely not as good as what they did but that’s ok.
Tips: if you don’t know how to start into the hair tie make the video slow and watch it over and over again then try it.
If you have know clue how to do the needle thing to get the yarn off just use your fingers.
I am that way with chevron and sometimes my granny squares are questionable. 😂😂
I love how your daughter is in the tutorial as well! It's really encouraging for me and I'm sure other younger kids who are learning to crochet that younger people can do it too. :)
Yeah! Im 9 and I LOVE crocheting
These are great stash busters, and FYI, I just bought 250 3mm elastic bands on Amazon for $9.99! You can pay a little more and get the thicker 4mm ones in bulk, too.
One tip: I crochet over the tail as I go and I have one less tail to weave in when I’m finished.
Fun Cooking 250 though?
The video was awesome 😘
What an awesome tutorial. It was so sweet seeing you and your daughter crafting together. I love the ending with your mascot Jax posing.
The kitty cat was a nice surprise! Thank you for the tutorial! I'm just starting out and these are very helpful :')
How adorable is your girl!! I just love to crochet! Thanks for this video I’m going to try this for sure!
I just started crocheting and honestly I LOVE THIS IDEA! I made stuffed animals for the kids for Christmas and had NO CLUE what to make with the rest of my yarn but this is AWESOME!
Love it mother and daughter, very nice thank you for sharing keep on crocheting.
Love the cat!! Love the mother/daughter duo!! We have a couple cats and a dog that demand attention all day long, lol. I've seen this video in my thread several times, but never clicked on it. I decided to check it out just now, and I'm glad I did. These look so fun!! I love how fast you can whip them up, too. Im gonna make some for my daughter, my granddaughter, and my niece! Thanks for the video. New sub and looking forward to more of your videos. Happy New Year!! 🎉🎊🎆
Absolutely great tutorial! I do have one question, though, if we were wanting to make the scrunchie longer, how would we do that? Like, would we just add another row of double crochets into each stitch and then finish off with the single crochet into each stitch and then sl stitch to finish?
Hi! Yes, I would do exactly what you said and finish as shown in the video with a row of SC.
i NEED to try this and besides it would be a different way to make a scrunchie instead of sewing it! thank you for this tutorial very helpful!! :D
This is adorable. I have a granddaughter about your daughters age and I wanted to make her scrunchie. I’ve been crocheting for over 40 years but I always look for beginner, friendly tutorials. Thank you so much I loved it.
Ohhhh nice scrunchy!!!!
OH my goodness dye that girls hair blonde and she would be a mini you. It's awesome seeing mom and daughter doing crafts together my granddaughter and I both sew
Just made this with velvet yarn in a blue color and its very cute! Thanks for the amazing tutorial, you two are amazing!
I just messed up and now I’m cranky
😂😂😂isn’t that the truth?!
I was just doing the basic single stitch in the beginning and my yarn just twisted around my hair tie. So now the thing is all twisted and the yarn is all won’t. Do I just start over?
Yes, you'll want to start over or it will just be a twisted mess.
Jax was waiting for a few new toys!! If only you could teach him to hold a crochet hook. ❤❤❤
This only has 154,892 views but it CLEARLY deserve wayyyyy more👍💙
You gals make it look so easy. Thanks so much for the video.
Loved the hilarious cat and you two are very very talented. I am going to try and not fail miserably. It was and amazing starter video for me because I am going to try it today.😁
thank you so much! this was super easy to follow -- most videos that i find that advertise themselves as "beginner friendly" are very difficult to understand and move much too fast for me to absorb all the information. you guys are really great, i'm definitely going to look at more of your videos!
Only started crochet to stop biting my nails now I have a new and more addictive hobby....
😂😂
Oh no I made my friend one with just a regular hair band but it broke. Imma try it with 2 instead hopefully it’ll work better
Love this tutorial! I’ve recently been into crocheting for the past 2 weeks, other than squares and rectangles, this was my first project. Since it was my first actual project I thought I would do something small and easier for beginners and this was prefect. I’m super proud of what I made and I 100% recommend this to beginners.
No hablo ingles pero este vídeo me encantó y le entendí bien, voy a intentar hacerlos 💙
Love these. I will be making several.
I’ve bought some of those scrunches form small businesses and I didn’t even know they were crochet 🧶 btw mine was the triple thing (I’m bad with remembering the vocab) with the big yarn ♥️
Awww thank y’all for sharing you guys rock... 💕💕💕👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Really loved your video, it made me remember when my mother tried to teach me but it just wasn´t my thing haha
New subscriber since I’m a crochet beginner, thought this would be a great project for me.
My daughter is learning and just finished a pillow as a moving up beginner project. I've been sitting here trying to find her another and this is perfect! Thank you!
I made my first scrunchie in about 30 minutes and it turned out beautiful! You’re an excellent teacher! Thanks for the tutorial🙂
You have both smart and beautiful daughter and cat! ❤😁❤
This reminds me to the early 90s when I'm still a 10 year old skinny bunny toothed girl...sweet, sweet memories...
This was so easy to make!! It turned out amazing and I’m obsessed ❤️
Love making scrunchies, I bought regular hair ties and extra thick ones for girls and ladies with thick hair. My hair is baby fine and I think the yarn covered scrunchies are great. The first lady I saw making these days she buys the Bernat Velvet yarn and makes scrunchies, she sells them at craft fairs 2 for $7. I love Jax hanging out with you two. My nephew's cat had 4 kittens and they are trying to eat, crawl on, and attack me.
Lmao I used this tutorial to make them and made $45 that I used to pay for my school supplies and I bought all my materials from the dollar store 🤣
Loved this tutorial! So easy to follow along for a beginner like myself!
Thank you so much I can't wait to try this to make the scrunchie, It's pretty Cool!
Loved this tutorial as I am a beginner pretty much. lol Such a cute fun team! Blessings
Yay! Something to do with the wool that's in the awkward stage between just enough and just too little. My first scrunchie is made. Thank you!
This is really helpful because i am a begginer at crotchet and this will be my first creation.Thank you so much and have a good day! :)
Great tutorial! I was hoping to find a project to use up my bin if random scrap yarn from previous projects. And I super love that you and your daughter did this together.
I’m not even in quarantine but I’m doing all these quarantine stuff 😂
I even prefer these to sewn ones...SO EASY......SO CUTE!!!!!
We boys also appreciate this kind of work. I'll never be as good as you are, but it doesn't matter. I like to see the industriousness of your most skilled hands. How much satisfaction you must have ... 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Hi
Thanks for video
Only problem I have is how ever many stitches i make, when it stretches, i can still see band underneath
Pls advise asap as gift
Thanks
Hi! I squish as many on as can fit, and I keep scrunching them down as I go.
Am I the only person having so much trouble with this because I’m a beginner and I can’t understand this at all
I am going to pull my har out!! I can't figure it out either :/
Gosh, I'm sorry you're having troubles! This one is pretty easy, but maybe google "how to single crochet" and "how to double crochet" and that might help you in more detail!
I love this!!! I started learning crochet with a bralette and I’m still working on my first bralette but I just saw this and decided to try it and I’m done my first hair tie and it looks amaaaazinnnnng! I have the exact same soft fluffy yarn too haha. Love this love this yessss. Also you guys are adorable. I love the bts at the end too lol
Aren't bralettes hard? which tutorial did you use?
Nia Adonis it took me a long time but its a bralette with only single crochet knots. I didnt do a great job because i overestimated how big the actual top had to be etc! But i dont think i couldve learned how to do a bralette better without doing a bad bralette first haha like my mistakes are so specific to a bra type shirt, not technique etc.
I used a few different videos especially bc my first video, the girl’s chest is much smaller than mine so i made mistakes regarding that. Took me a good while to find one for bigger chests!
but i started with Krystal Everdeen’s vid “DIY crochet top simple crochet top” its a red bralette thumbnail
Sometimes I wish these tutorials could go in real time so that you can estimate better how long it would actually take you to make the whole thing, instead of fast forwarding through the repetitive stitches.
I have no idea what I did wrong but mine ended up being flat and not having ruffles.
I love how you slowly teach because others were so fast yours is more up close and i can see it thank you.
I came across this video while sitting on the couch with my crochet hook and yarn and thought it looked fun! But I didn’t feel like getting up to grab a hair tie. So I lifted up the couch cushion and what do you know!? I found a hair tie 😆
LOL!
Great tutorial ladies. I just made one...and couldn't stop!Thanks!
I have a big hole for yarn to go though needle. They come in different sizes
Can’t wait to make these! Thank you!
I knit, not crochet. I have no clue why I watch these videos
yes, you could!
Great tutorial. I'm a 55 yr old crochet newbie and needed some easy projects. I've already made a bunch in different colors as a surprise for my teenage daughter. Thanks
I have recently come across your channel. Have wanted to do scrunchies for quite a while and now plan on making some for family/friends. Your tutorial is very easy to follow. Your daughter did a great job.
i'm seeing all of these comments and you liked them all. So either you have a robot click the button or you just have a lot of time. lol
I do my best to get through the comments and like them all, and respond if asked a question :) Sorry no robot here, and not a lot of time, but I believe in good customer service and connecting with my audience!
I'm about to make some right now. Thank y'all!!!!!
What a great Xmas gift!!!! I’m going to use my scraps - maybe hold two yarns together
Your kitty is like ooo I wanna help
Thank you so much I've been trying to learn how to do these scrunchies. You explained this so we'll. Also your daughter is precious and I loved your cat trying to help out 😂
Perfect! Thank you, Erica and Katie!!
I couldn’t figure out how to do this so I got frustrated and started crying lol
Edit: I just tried a few more times and just got it thanks I’ll update when I’m done
Edit: just kidding it’s been 2 hours and I still haven’t gotten through the first step
Hi, Sorry it was difficult for you, but it sounds like you just needed some practice to get it going :)
Awesome! I love making scrunchies of all kinds! And your craft room is cute!
