- Let me take your hand because no parade compares to the Rose Parade in Pasadena. And you can't compare the TV version to real life. Let's go.
No, you don't have to sleep overnight to get a view. If you want, try way at the end of the parade if you want your free spot that morning. (Cannot guarantee how well you will see.)
It can cost money but there are tickets available at Sharp Seating Company for all those grandstands. sharpseating.com Not all the seating is the huge grandstands you see on tv. Some are smaller and maybe you can get better seating if you try Orange Grove Ave. Or further down Colorado St away from the cameras. Seats go on sale 11 months in advance!
So unless you want to, you can go the afternoon before and have fun trying to sleep overnight on the sidewalk. But for us, we would buy our tickets and get a good nights sleep before we arrive in the morning.
And this video is trying to guide you on how to manage the parade with less difficulty. We learned the hard way after many visits. Also I highlight some reasons why being there is so much better not being there.
I used various clips and photos that I took from assorted Parades. And even my video is not going to give you the true excitement of hearing those bands blaring loud, the laughs from fellow audience members, the amazing beauty of the floats.
As a plant-flower lover, I cannot get over how they use those flowers. You really can't see it from a screen.
Also I suggest just looking on Fair Oaks and grab a parking space from one of the businesses selling their spots for the parade. And then walk up towards the parade, using Orange Grove if your seats are nearby. Then you pass all the floats as they are ready to go. It's exciting down there as they finish prep and have awarded the floats.
I enjoyed editing these old photos together. It brought back great memories as I watch the parade on my tv.

@ thank you for telling me about it!
Awesome!!😁
Thank you! Cheers!
I remember seeing the parade in the mid 1960s with parents. Afterwards we went to where they parked the floats; there you could get up close and see the flowers. 🌺 It was a great experience.
So true! Thanks for mentioning the final spot for the floats. It is popular for people to see the florals, but I've never went to it.
