Omg I love your editing! I literally had the same reaction as you, I felt so defeated... I went with a friend I met who already got accepted with me and her family and I think that may have been a factor too because I wasn't with my family. My brother came because he applied but I still wish my mom would have come with me... My friend Betsy was told to stay so I had to wait for her to get finished. When I came back later after hanging out with my bro I saw alot of girls there who looked really pretty with full face makeup and curled hair. I looked like a toad so that also coulda been why... lesson learned: wear makeup!
She did look like Edna mode though!!!!

    • @NatalieEverAfter

That means the absolute world to me, considering you're a freaking bonafide cast member. Also, you have no idea how good it feels to hear, although melancholic, that you were also cut in the first round--even though I would put you in that category of the victorias secret model girls of my audition group. I can only hope that next audition is a little lighter on the dance aspect, my theory is that since Atlanta was the last stop on the DCP audition tour, they had maybe pulled too many pure meet and greet characters and were looking for parade people, which is why dance was emphasized in this specific audition experience. Regardless, this is just practice for the future, I'm determined to make it even if that's not till my 20th audition!

Rachel Writes you’ve obviously never been to a Disney audition. For the dcp, you don’t need to be a great dancer to get the job. They tell you at the audition that the most important part is the animation portion. The first march “dance” is to see heights, body types, and movement. You don’t have to have dance experience to get the job, you just need to be what their looking for at the time of your audition.

Imagine being at an audition for your dream job. You’re tired, you don’t know anybody, and your nerves are flying everywhere. Any simple task will take more effort than usual. Instead of hating on her for NO REASON at all how about you just click on another video.

A piece of advice I give to anyone auditioning for any entertainment based job. It’s not personal. There will always be people who are better. One day you’ll get to be that person. I was always knocked back because they knew I would be unable to learn on the job. My one successful audition was one where I went in acting as if I was just there doing my job and not auditioning :) but definitely never let an unsuccessful audition get you down.

I had no idea I need to be able to dance... and wore no make up and just shirt and tea shirt... lol( it was for the electrical parade... but in 1994) ... we learned a routine and then we went into the room .. the piano player was playing “be my guest, be my guest”and then they ask us to do the dance a diagonal down the room... ( that totally got me off my game...) so funny, the person choosing.. came to work with my like 10 years later at my interior design company I was working at... so I was able to say, “ hey, I remember you... you were the one who didn’t pick me to be Cinderella at Disneyland.....lol... life is funny, isn’t it. 😘💥

    Tips for next time 😊:
If your going to do this again don't worry about anyone else just make sure you can get that dancing. If you can't see or you are struggling please ask the dance person for help. I'm sure they would happily help as they want the best for their characters and they want to see your best to see if you are right for it. Like a win win situation. Also keep in mind that some auditions for a certain job take place all around the globe (For example I found a Tokyo audition for England in London and then found the same one for Italy though that was look a likes for characters like Peter Pan and Wendy Darling (Literally the only characters I remember as I wanna be Alice or Wendy when I'm old enough to audition.)
Good luck on your next audition it maybe you already passed as I didn't check how long ago this was. But I hope at least someone will find it useful.

Natalie, longtime dancers have the advantage when it comes to picking up routines after instructions and a couple of run throughs. I’m not that person, so I feel you. I always had to be front and center in Jazzercise class, to see what’s going on. I love your attitude and enthusiasm and am happy to see all the support you are getting here. Keep marching, stepping, grapevining, turning and chasséing and above all, keep smiling.

The only problem is that at my college a lot of pre-reqs are needed, so if I wanted any actual practice it'd be like a semester or two of classes weighing down my workload before I even get any help. I signed up for one this past semester, but I ended up dropping it because of how much other stuff was going on. But ya' know, never say never, might sign up for something over the summer! :)))

As soon as you said that you just learned what a grapevine was at the group audition I had a feeling that the dance section is what would have caught you. When I was just starting to get into musical theatre as a youth I was really nervous about not being up to the dancing requirements (turns out I was overthinking and giving myself unnecessarily anxieties, all of us were inexperienced 10-year-olds lol). So before I had my first company audition I had a friend who took dance teach me everything she knew. And I practiced it so many times it was absurd. But walking into that audition I felt so much more confident. I was able to pick up choreo, do counts, and do simple dance moves without being taught by the demonstrator. Even though it wasn't expected of me (the choreographer was super understanding and walked us through everything) knowing I was able to do what was asked of me gave me the confidence boost I needed to shake any nerves. I know comparing our two situations might be like apples to oranges when it comes to the age and audition intensity. But my advice would be to seek out some beginner dance classes in your area and/or find friends who are willing to teach you. RUclips has great resources too omg! I was placed in a company's showing of The Nutcracker which requires ballet which I have none of. I watched dozens of ballet vids on YT, practiced and was able to land an ensemble and understudy role. I believe in you! Please do not stop working for this because it is so obvious you would crush it at Disney. Since all of that^^^I've become dance captain of several shows while also exploring new things and all I can say is it's never too late to learn new skills. NEVER! TOO! LATE! Slaying grape vines this year and crushing Disney auditions the next. You got this!

    • @NatalieEverAfter
      @NatalieEverAfter  5 лет назад +42

I'm not a dancer at all and I don't really claim to be. Disney auditions for meet and greet characters do have a dance component, but they highly stress that dance experience is by no means a prerequisite.
These auditions are marketed as laidback and welcoming (which it certainly was). If you watch any of the videos on the audition website or read the Disney forums, they really encourage people to just try out regardless of background.
On the weekends, I do children's birthday parties as a princess. I know I have the capability to interact with children in character and contribute to that magic. I'm confident in my abilities to perform the daily functions of the job.
I know I seem frazzled & inexperienced, so it's not a far jump for people to assume I have no business being at the audition, but that isn't the case. I concede not being the most well rounded of applicants, however, it really strikes a chord with me when people belittle my ambitions because of shortcomings that don't even directly correlate into the job description.
I hope I don't come across as defensive or sanctimonious. I just know a lot more people than my intended audience has seen this video, so I feel somewhat compelled to reframe my baseline of expertise in the field.

Great attitude girl! This was very similar to my journey. I had been dancing since I was 7 with my dream of being a performer. Unfortunately I got cut at the second round at my DCP Audition. I've auditioned now probably about 15 times and have had to come to terms with my height (something I have literally no control over) is my weakness. Every no has been devastating, but I also look back now on how much it made me stronger and shaped me into the CM I am now 5 years later. I still audition cause even if it means I'm 50 and friends with the fairy godmother, I will continue to pursue my dream. For now I'm thankful for the lessons the auditions have taught me cause I have had some of the greatest jobs so far and many phenomenal guest interactions. Keep your head up, keep trying, and keep that positive outlook. I'm sure you'll be incredible in any role while you wait for your dreams to come true. I've always believed that if Walt Disney can be told no thousands of times and leave behind such an amazing legacy, surely I can do anything I set my mind to! You got this girl! Best wishes from your fellow RUclipsr & Magic Maker ❤️

As a former Zoo Crewer at Disneyland... I can still remember my audition dance 16 years later! I knew exactly what to expect because I went to performance classes as a part of Magic Music Days when I was in middle school and they showed us what a winning audition looked like. Burned into my brain is, "Be a TIGGER, not an EEYORE" on every single step of the audition. Our process had 9 cuts over 2 days... and every single time you had to bust it and bring everything you have. After making it through 6 cuts on Day 1, I went home at 7pm and practiced the dance 50+ times for the next morning to do it in costume (probably why I still remember it now). If you look ridiculously silly and energetic with your toes pointing and jazz hands flared, you're going to be ready.

In professional theater even with Disney, they don’t care. If you can’t see, move. If you didn’t spend enough time on it, that’s your problem. If you don’t know the technical terms, do some homework. I was in the revival of a chorus line after failing audition after audition because I didn’t know dance terms. I took a dance class.

I'm not a professional dancer and I don't claim to be. This was my first time ever doing anything like this, I knew my chances weren't good but I also knew I'd do my best with the skills that I had. You have a valid point in that I need more training for next time and I am taking classes, I just think you might've overestimated how cutthroat the Disney audition process is.

Hi! Idk if you’re going to see this but I wanted to comment anyways.
I’m not sure what the Disney college program is(this video was at the top of my recommended-idk why cause I’ve never watched a vid like this lol but I’m glad it was in my recommended), so I can’t relate to this specific experience, but as someone who has been rejected and didn’t get the part or job at many auditions and interviews in the past despite so much prep, I want to say thank you for posting this. It’s really comforting to see this realistic aspect. Thank you for posting this. When I first didn’t get the parts/jobs at my first few auditions, I would always be extremely upset. I even cried a couple times. I felt like I was such a failure and like I was so alone bc no one talks about times when they don’t get the job. So thank you for this. It’s comforting to know you’re not alone (even though obviously most people get rejected since there are a few spots and a lot of people auditioning so you know lots of people get rejected, but that’s diff than emotionally going through it)
I just want to thank you for posting this. It’s really brave and really emotionally comforting to see other people going through a similar process.
Idk if this makes sense, and I’m sorry you didn’t get it, but a lot of comments here say they auditioned a few times before they got the job, so I want to wish you good luck for the future!!

I really wasn't expecting to wake up to such a sweet message today. Thank YOU for this. I had always built up this moment in my head, it was supposed to be the moment I was finally good enough. I was finally accepted by the people who really matter, by the people who are supposed to make dreams come true. So when it didn't happen, I was devastated (not in the way that I thought they owed it to me or I deserved it because I wanted it), but because I felt entirely unworthy of the dream I was--am chasing. After the rejection, I really thought about not posting the video, but I'm so glad that I did and that I was able to help be a voice and word of caution for those who don't magically get in the first time. SO thank you for easing those self doubting fears in my head and thank you for taking the time to be kind -- it means so much to me!!!

While I'm CRUSHED to hear these news for you (I'm so sorry omg I felt those tears in the throat UGH I wanted to hug you!), I'm also super appreciative that you went ahead anyway and posted this video to show not only the hurt you felt when this happened but also to move on and to help show people who are working hard to get somewhere where their dreams lie where the stakes are high and where failure does often happen. It's part of progress and success.
Lots of people on social media don't post the hardships they go through as individuals to achieve the finished product of a certain goal. It makes people feel worse than they normally would because they're so used to see nothing but the success of others seemingly on the first try without knowing they have their hard times such as these. This even helped me, as an aspiring animator, remember that there will be failure and I'll be crushed about it, too, when the time comes. But I know I'll come back to this when it happens, when any failures happen that I'm struggling with, to remember that it happens to so many but in the end they *will* get to what they're working for. And it'll be the same for me, I hope. Keep trying, girl, I'm rooting for you!!! You have such a spirit!

The support from your comment is overwhelming. I'm so glad to hear you not only enjoyed my video but understood where I was coming from. I know I have a lot of ground to cover in order to make attempt number 2 better, but I'm trying. It can be hard to remember that failure is a natural part of life, and I don't want to run away or hide from that. It only makes achieving that goal mean so much more! I hope you make it animating, it really seems like you have a passion for it; best of luck!

As a dancer and performer myself, I would say that you simply need more experience and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Even dancing for all of my life, I still do my best to find new ways to improve, and I often find myself doubting any bigger chance of success.
The more competitive side of me is wondering why you may not have chosen to seek more experience/training before entering an audition but that’s just me being blunt & completely honest, something you sadly have to learn through auditioning...
However, the part of me that is a teacher to aspiring dancers/performers/etc says that constantly, and I mean constantly, working your butt off to achieve your goal is the only way you will get a result (yes, I understand that for face characters this may not matter, but for fur and even other dance roles it does).
TAKE CLASS! For this more relaxed audition, I’d say that you would be good to take some Zumba, basic ballet (learning terminology, basic positions), and maybe learning basic jazz moves would help you out so much for your next audition!!
Lastly, some of my best audition tips: definitely stand in the front if you can while at a dance audition, even if that means leaving your friends... be sure to put your own style on the movement & performance, don’t just throw on a cookie-cutter smile & just “go-through the movements”, even if something is just some step touches, go full out sis!!

Woah. Someone deserves extra cresdit for this *essay*.
Thank you so much for all the advice, weirdly a perfect mix between bluntness and encouragement. I am so excited to enroll in some dance classes and have already started practicing for round 2 at auditions. I knew going into this I was not experienced, def didn't expect to get anything (still don't) all I know is that the more practice I have for the future; the better.

I was fortunate enough that my plus size didn't matter for my role (Festival of the Lion King - HK). Now, you said a few times that your weight was the issue for being a face character. this happened to me today and i came straight to this video. i was at a singing audition and i got so nervous my throat kept drying up even after chugging a whole bottle of water. i kept choking on words and i couldn’t sing properly. i felt so bad afterwards i couldn’t stop crying for hours on end, still crying now. i’m not upset that i probably won’t make it anymore, i’m just disappointed in myself because i feel like i could’ve done so much better and i just failed it and made a complete fool of myself. i have to wait a complete year and come back in defeat next year with new songs. i spent so long practicing and learning lyrics (which, this time, i felt like it was so much harder than usual). i spent so much time and effort which i could’ve spent doing other things to just fail and disappoint myself.
it’s weird because, i’m usually perfectly fine in front of like my entire class, or even entire year, but in front of just 4 people is so intimidating because you know they are watching you and taking notes on your performance and singing.
*ugh i’m so pissed off, can y’all like this so when i get my results i can update this (probably around february next year)*
i’ll hopefully be able to make an update for people if people even care about my stupid life lmao
    to my future self:
i hope i make it, that’d be absolutely amazing and an incredible opportunity, but if not. don’t worry about it, we now have time to have a better song choice and practice until it’s completely perfect so don’t worry too much about it.
okay well edit i guess?: its february and by now singing isnt my main instrument anymore, guitar is! i find im much better at this than singing. as you can probably tell, i didnt make it in, which was obvious but thats okay! i feel like ive got new paths now :)

I can confirm that the dancing is probably the most important part of the auditions. I made it all the way through the audition till they were over and they go, easy dance, animation, harder dance, which is more like one of the actual parade dancer dances and it’s very princessie, not just a cute little marching dance , and then they take pictures of your face which was for sure the weirdest part. But for sure the dancing is the most important part cause in the end you need to be able to perform for people. But it was so great to hear how positive you were about your experience and now you know how the auditions go you can be ready for it then next time! 😊

But I’m sure you’ll be able to have a great next audition, and whether or not you get to be a performer at Disney, it’s still a super cool experience!
