Still driving my 2000 Tacoma 4 cyl, automatic Extended cab, almost 195,000 miles on it and runs great. Had the original U joints replaced 5,000 miles ago and my mechanic says it will need front shocks (original) next time it goes in for an oil change. Rear original shocks are still good.
I have a 2003 Tacoma SR5 that I bought new and it now has a bit over 100k on the clock. It still looks and drives like new. I get offers fairly often for it, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's now a 3rd vehicle for me and just could never think about getting rid of it. It's been truly a great vehicle! Great review!
@@mannygonzalez4178 I ended up selling my beloved Tacoma last year. I got 17.5k for it. I paid 23k for it brand new in 2003. Last year, I moved to my home in Palm Springs, and I didn't have room for all four of my cars. I only kept one, a Lexus SC430 that I bought new in 2004. It only has 67k on the clock. It's a brilliant car with a 4.3 engine - 8 cylinders. A perfect Palm Springs car. I can't even begin to say how much I miss that Tacoma. I now have to pay for things to be delivered! Ugh! You don't realize how much you appreciate some things until they're gone. Yet, I had it for over 20 years, and sometimes change is good.
Toyota's are built all over the country but for North America the majority are built in the United States, some are built in Canada and Mexico, but because Toyota keeps strict on them, they don't have the issues with the ones coming out of Mexico like other manufacturers have experienced.
Japanese make the best vehicles on the planet in my opinion. Check out the Hijet made by Toyota. You can actually get them here in America. Some guy in Tennessee sells them
Japanese and Taiwanese are quality that's The only difference that Chinese made jets and subs are so crappy built they'll probably catch fire 🔥🔥🔥 by itself
I have the same year and model with 256k on it. I bought it new. It runs smooth and the AC is super cold on the hottest days here in San Antonio. The only thing I’ve had to change, other than regular maintenance, is the water pump and that surprisingly was the same price at Autozone. Either way, I buy dealer parts only for my truck, they last longer. Places like eBay are full of them for this truck, love it! I switched out the headlights for new ones last summer and the truck looks brand new again!!! I don’t mean to brag but almost every time I take my truck to Discount Tire to balance and rotate my tires, some guy, usually about Scotty’s age, will ask me about my truck and some time during mid conversation will offer me “10k cash right now” (their words). I smile and tell them, I love my truck, it’s not for sale. We’ll keep talking a bit more and the guy will ask me again, “10k cash right now, my bank is down the street!” FYI, if you ever see one of these for sale and it’s in good condition, snatch it up because it won’t be for sale long! Just my opinion but I don’t like the new Tacoma’s, they are too big! My neighbor has one and I thinks it’s beautiful but mine does better on gas!🙂 Wish Toyota would bring the Hilux to the states!
I have an 04, TRD dealer installed supercharged V6 4x4 extra cab with a manual transmission I bought new. It has about 100,000 miles now but it still feels like new, Every dealer recommended maintenance has been done...the 4x4 “go cart” I bought 17 years ago is still my favorite baby!
Scotty, I’m really surprised at you! True, it may be only a 2wd, but this would’ve been a great avenue to explain to non-Toyota truck enthusiasts “what makes a PreRunner a PreRunner” and not just a plain and basic 2wd. What’s so cool about these trucks is that they have, from the factory, a push-button E-Locker for the rear differential! You can go quite far, given factors, in a 2wd truck with a locked rear end and that’s what these Tacoma’s prove. Great for blasting around in the sand and dirt. That’s what inspired this neat sub model; racing! Have a great day everybody.
These first gen Tacomas come with a sport mode button called "ECT PWR." Makes a world of a difference in acceleration for city driving, and gas mileage stays the same at 17-19 MPG. I keep mine on! ECT PWR off sucks and makes the transmission upshift gears way too early and makes an already sluggish truck more sluggish. Keeps engine in better RPM range for power.
The 3.4 engine is rock solid. I have one in my 2001 Tacoma. I plan to keep the truck until the body rusts and the only thing left is the engine. It will probably still be running strong.
2001 Taco 4wd TRD 5speed with 86K bought it new from Cabe in Long Beach. Absolutely timeless gorgeous functional truck that attracts attention everywhere I go. Love it to pieces and will never sell it.
I had a '98 Tacoma base with a manual trans for years, my dad still has his to this day. I really like the front grills that have TOYOTA spelled out in white letters like Toyota once used instead of the rounded logo they use now.

You have nailed my experience with the 01’ 6cyl Prerunner. Engine quit for the first time at 285k miles. Spent $3000 for repairs (fuel injector seals and other deep engine work). Now it Runs great And shifts great. 309,000 miles so far.

I got my '03 Tacoma in '07 with 66k. It has 254k on it now, and all I've had to replace is the Clutch, brakes, timing belt - stuff you typically replace after a while. With good maintenance I'll probably keep driving it until it falls apart in another 20 yrs or so...
Got a 2004 toyota highlander, over 200k miles. I thought my ac was shot, never getting cold enough, ive been watching these videos to learn how to fix it myself. Other day get in my car and i realize i never turned on the actual ac, i just set the air to cold. Now i got my toyota with freezing cold air and i am LIVING
is it a Diesel? an old one, with a mechanical injection pump, so that it is not dependent on electronics and the old Toyota could withstand a military EMP event?
Fair call . For 5 years I’ve been rotating and maintaining 1000L of diesel on my property for the time I can’t obtain fuel! It takes up some room but it make me feel better!! Also engine oil and filters!! like how I buy rounds!! In bulk
I have the same truck - year, model, drivetrain, mileage, everything - except for the paint - and I agree. Old school is best school; when you start it you don’t need sunglasses because the entire dashboard doesn’t light up, and all the all the systems are seperate...NOTHING is integrated. Damned thing runs like new, and will probably run forever.
I also like to piss gun people of by saying “clip” instead of “magazine.” When the fit hits the shan, I’m pretty Sure it doesn’t matter what you call anything
I have a ‘87 Toyota 4x4, I’ve had it 20 years and has 130,000 miles on it. Get 24 mpg...old truck but dead reliable. I think something bad is coming and I believe in being prepared and my truck is part of it
U can beat an inline 6 with 7 main bearings lol How about an old school gear on gear transfer case that's not chain driven and aluminum cased like a toyota or any new truck..... I'd go with an np205 bolted to a manual transmission....like an sm465 or nv4500

That wind you’re hearing is probably just the light bar. I had one on my Ranger and the whistling drove me insane. I had it removed and put a smaller one in the bumper.
Shows Bernie when he says "zombies are coming after you!" 😂
My first bought Vehicle was a 2008 Hilux 4WD VIGO with Manual transmission....I still miss that vehicle...You never forget your first!!
*See Scotty knows zombies are coming.*
*Tips: height, clearance is important when running over Zombies.*
😆😆
You have nailed my experience with the 01’ 6cyl Prerunner. Engine quit for the first time at 285k miles. Spent $3000 for repairs (fuel injector seals and other deep engine work). Began hard shifting at 300k miles cuz I never changed transmission fluid after switching to full synthetic at 80k. Replaced trans fluid two qt at a time. Now it Runs great And shifts great. 309,000 miles so far.
4RUNNER will be my end of the world vehicle.
Glad to see you review this truck i have a 2003 4x4 std with 62,000 miles its fun to drive
If it had an M60 on the roof, you could vacation in Portland Or.
PKM
@@drmanhattan5219 m60 is better
I just bought a 03 Toyota Tacoma with 110k miles on it. Runs like a dream!
I would've traded it for a 4WD one and then did the modifications.
Well since he's in Texas they don't get that much snow depending where you live. Its needed for some people and some for not. I do agree trading for a 4x4 better to have and need it and not have it.
i would have lowered and super charged it.
@@deadjoey77 Supercharging kills the iconic reliability but lowering it would be cool
Scotty, I have a 2003 Prerunner 6cyl w/248,000 miles and it runs great! Oh, the only thing I did to is gas up, fluid changes, belts, and tires.
Scotty has spent decades preparing for the great Fiat/Chrysler apocalypse
I believe that already happened....twice!
Rolling piles of junk, cheap electronics, faulty dodgie transmissions. Out of Scotty's hymn book. Praised be his name.😀😃😄😁😆😅🤣
Just got a " brand new" toyota surf 360 000 km for 2200€ to be ready for the apocalypse. Mine will be green soon, to hide in the forest. I m really inspired by the style of this one. Thx for sharing and for yor sense of humor. Cheers from France
Scotty knows whats up! That's why I sub! 😂❤
Had one made in Japan 2001 and sold it for 6k with 187,000 in 2016. Loved the truck. Lived through two teenage boys till they got done with college. Then I rei-inherited it. Loved the truck. Oil, gas, go. Bulletproof.
The dude or dudett ain't messing around, well done
That is a cool truck
Edit: I like the flat finish
Totally agree scotty, got 02 tacoma 300000+. With the 4cyl. Auto trans. Runs awesome ...best truck i ever had.
My buddies uncle has an old 4Runner just like this. Paint and all.
oh yeah yeah
I got my '03 Tacoma in '07 with 66k. It has 254k on it now, and all I've had to replace is the Clutch, brakes, timing belt - stuff you typically replace after a while. With good maintenance I'll probably keep driving it until it falls apart in another 20 yrs or so...
There’s already zombies in the streets lobbing molotovs
Got one
Would.never give it up
2013 Tacoma 4x4 love it.
The frames don't rust unless you are in the snow belt and NE USA. And then, my god, they rust like crazy.
Nah a high altitude emp would wreck it. And my car 😭
Hilux 1KZ-T mechanical pump!
EMP No Problems
"You can hide away in the brush!" Scotty on point!
1:26 😫 I really wanted an AWD Tacoma but hey what more could you ask than a 2WD solid reliable suv? 🔥
Scotty Maan ! Happy to know that Laura did not blew you away !! Nice of Laura ..
Cute video file but if there was an apocalypse, you'd need a horse and wagon...won't be any refineries working.😁
Fair call .
For 5 years I’ve been rotating and maintaining 1000L of diesel on my property for the time I can’t obtain fuel!
It takes up some room but it make me feel better!! Also engine oil and filters!!
like how I buy rounds!! In bulk
We got 3 Volkswagen diesel rabbits back home. Two 1996 and one 1984. No power steering, no radio, no air. Perfect for when they cut the power off lol
"It's not a race truck but let see how fast it is!"
2:43 Zombies... 😂🤣😅
Mine is 2005 4-L V6 4-door 4x4. It still looks great, runs great.
It’s all fun until the EMP hits.
old school diesels and gas engines with points will still run.
Scotty, once many years ago you answered one of my car questions. You are a great guy, and a true American hero
dont trust anyone who says "all wheel drive" when talking about a 4wd option
Really?! Bc the manufacturers often use AWD. Last time I checked, most vehicles have 4 wheels. Does it really matter what they call it?
I also like to piss gun people of by saying “clip” instead of “magazine.”
When the fit hits the shan, I’m pretty
Sure it doesn’t matter what you call anything
TomAyto vs tomAHto yes they're different but Scotty knows what he's talking about
I have a 2004 Tacoma 4 door 4WD, best vehicle I've ever owned! 208k miles and very few problems, it just keeps going!
The zombie invasion is already in full swing. Just go to store and look at all the masked zombies wondering around
Couldn't have said better myself.
Wandering not wondering
Better than laying around on a ventilator.
@@geraldmiller5260 no they are clearly wondering around. Just look into their eyes for a few seconds, then you'll see why I said wondering
I have a ‘87 Toyota 4x4, I’ve had it 20 years and has 130,000 miles on it. Get 24 mpg...old truck but dead reliable.
I think something bad is coming and I believe in being prepared and my truck is part of it
Freezing cold AC......AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!
i liked the video when Bernie`s pic. came up after Scotty said Zombies. Classic. Love my 5vze BTW.
I wish my 1991 Toyota Previa, had "freezing cold air." Oh well ...
Sounds like it's your fault, not the Toyota's..
One of the best vehicle's I've ever owned. So many reasons the Previa is great, wish they still made them.
My 2001 PreRunner just turned 311,000 miles...best vehicle I ever bought.
I’d rather have a 12v 1st gen Cummins for the apocalypse
U can beat an inline 6 with 7 main bearings lol
How about an old school gear on gear transfer case that's not chain driven and aluminum cased like a toyota or any new truck.....
I'd go with an np205 bolted to a manual transmission....like an sm465 or nv4500
213000 on my SR5 Tundra....Dif went out a year ago...Other than that engineis bullet proof and runs Excellent
Nothing says "post-apocalypse survival" like flimsy nerf bars.
Scotty in for the clutch recommendations for the apocalypse!! I really want a Toyota Tacoma now
