John’s scores were sometimes the saving grace for some of the Star Wars movies for me. The scores he did for the franchise are just amazing.

This man is a musical genius. The themes he's done, they're the best out there. Some of the soundtracks he's done have made the films they were for. I bet A New Hope would NEVER have been nearly as popular as it was when it released without that incredible score that came with it. Quite frankly, that score, that could be regarded as the best movie score of all time.

Every single piece of music in that movie is a masterpiece, no bland fillers where you just have the strings holding an harmonic pedal, just constant orchestral magic meticulously enriched with layers upon layers of details.
And Indiana Jones, and Jaws. Did he not already get a lifetime achivement award now?

rey's theme is so beautiful, it gives of a sense of mystery and it's calling you towards an adventure not knowing what it leads to. everything about it is so magical

This composition is like a call for adventure.
I don’t care what anyone says, Rey’s theme is beyond power of speech, it’s such a beautifully composed piece of music and I get goosebumps everytime I listen to it, John Williams is one of the greatest composers of our time and I know for a fact every Star Wars fan can at least agree on that.
I can’t deny the fact that every time I hear Rey’s theme I get a bit starry eyed. Such a beautiful piece of art, that encapsulates everything we love about Star Wars. Thank you John Williams, the SW community is forever in your debt.

They REYdeemed her (oof) in IX imo. Offscreen and onscreen training and a reason for her immense force strength. I actually really like her arc in ROS, definitely worked out in the end.
@@RatchildUK yeah IX fixed everything. And the way her theme interweaves with Palpatine's theme brought unity to the whole story. When she is realizing Palpatine killed her parents, they play Palpatine's theme using Rey's orchestration. Only a genius like John Williams could pull off something like that.

John Williams played this at the Hollywood Bowl in 2016. It took me a while to grow on the Force Awakens soundtrack, but truly Rey's theme is my favorite of this new trilogy.
This masterpiece is amazing cuz it gives you that urge that adventure is just behind the horizon

John Williams’ contribution to cinema..as well as pop culture…is immeasurable.
I'm generally not really a fan of orchestral soundtracks but John Williams is the sole exception. His music can bring me to tears, it's just so damn good.
He has such an understanding of what works, how, when, where and why, resulting in such expertly crafted pieces of music with so much character.
I have nothing but endless respect for this man.

Me too. That one time it was most prominently featured (Rey taking up that light saber, practicing some moves while Luke watches from a distance) gained SO much from just having her theme play midway.

This man is pure genius. Truly is. His scores are so perfectly done. This music with or without the film, literally makes you feel like 30-40 years have past in the Star Wars galaxy since ROTJ. It’s the best thing about TFA.

yes! If you listen to John Williams he likes to go a bit faster in live performances. Check Imperial March different versions with Williams conducting, same as the main theme. He likes it. I've studied it :D

A lot of film scores performed live are faster; this is typically to give the music more energy and thus keep interest when there is no image to accompany the music

Yeah people can complain about Rey being a Mary Sue all they want but within the first 5 seconds of this song I just couldn't help but smile in glee at how awesome and nostalgic this song is. John Williams, you're still a genius.

I understand next to nothing about conducting but even then i can tell that this is masterfully, perfectly conducted, i mean, it has the exact same pacing (or tempo?) as the recorded version. I'm having goosebumps.
i noticed that , too . all ohter soundtracks i watch live performance for sounds a bit different , but i felt i was listening to the exact recorded theme .

John WIlliams is a master and genius and has created music that will stand the test of time!!! George Lucas created the best film franchise of all time and the characters are beloved and known worldwide ( except China for some reason??? ) Together they created something iconic and WIlliams doesnt cease to keep amazing us

I've always loved the regal edge of this theme. It's what you'd expect to hear, if the arrival of a princess was being heralded. I guess that, technically, she IS one through her grandfather. (5/19/2022)
