"The Flying Lotus" was premiered by the Seattle Symphony with conductor Ricardo Averbach at Celebrate Asia on May 12. The commission by A.R. Rahman was generously underwritten by Vijay and Sita Vashee, Parul and Gary Houlahan, Vishwa and Vandana Prasad, Noreen and Kabir Shahani, and Satya and Rao Ramala.

Rahman's social commitment and personal ideology is totally Rahman's and not ours. They are Rahman's freedom and Rahman's right!
For music lovers, its Rahman's music (and not his sociopolitical attachment) they are in love with. I love Rahman not for being the political Rahman, not for being the socially committed Rahman. Being a gifted, humble and passionate musician, a Padma Vibhushan Awardee, a Philanthropist, a cultural ambassador and the Mozart of Madras, Personally feel that A R Rahman should not be taking sides as a musician. All these recognition were in the name of music and not for his political affiliations.
So let the players play, singers sing, writers write and teachers teach. Let there be magic in their creations and stay blessed. If it is all about sociopolitical attachment and affiliations and individual rights, there are other platforms to demonstrate such attributes of personal choice.
A R Rahman is a public figure, an internationally renowned celebrity and I love him, throng at his concerts and repeatedly listen to his music not to listen to his political rhetoric. Please A R Rahman, please remain as our A R Rahman and nothing else. I love you.

No,I feel there is nothing political. I think Sir has tried to capture India in the recent few months in the above segment...Regarding Modi ji's voice..I think those voice fragments authentically captures the noises/sounds in our India today..viz. the noises in the media....the JIO craze..the usual BIG speeches we are regularly used to now in the Modi ji era.. etc etc That melody on the winds (I think.. or lets say something in the middle octave) sounds so magically Indian n our lives in India..That short build up to impending chaos-ish feel before the end where it feels like the sky is about to open up(or all hell's gonna break loose) before it ends....Such a genuine attempt I feel... :)
PS: These are only my thoughts of course!

Hi, As I said this was only my opinion. You can hear his opinion in his twitter page where Sir has talked about 'Flying Lotus' in reply to queries. There's no denying in the fact that India during demonetisation , the period from which he drew inspiration was all about Sh.Modi ji and BJP . To me 'Flying Lotus' was a logical title .I saw in 'Flying Lotus' a beautiful art above politics. You can hear it all in the piece. The rude shock in the call for demonetisation, the praise , the agony/cry , the anticipative mood among uncertainty post demonitisation, and the way he sees a happy, developed/improved future for India post demonetisation. .
At end with jarring note the symphony ended shows how disastrous aftereffects of Demonetisation was on economy

think of it as a Background score playing to visuals. As an Indian, the speech coupled with music hits the right notes.
as far as modi's words are concerned, i can respect your opinion that you didn't like it. that's totally fine because music is subjective.
but, have you heard classical music apart from fur elise? if you had, you'd know that most of the symphonies (go listen to Archduke by beethoven) are not earworms that will immediately stick with you. like most of rahman's stuff, and like most classical music by mozart and beethoven and bach, you need to give this piece time to grow on you. please don't be one of those haters on the internet who give meaning to their life by baselessly spreading negativity.
