A friendly reminder to all who criticized and found errors in this performance, this is a HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA. This was a fantastic performance and those young musicians should be proud of it. As for the conductor, great job!!!!!

Having been born in 1938 I was just the right age to listen to The Lone Ranger radio program EVERY Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening. Radio, back then was a rich experience.
Very much agreed! Some professional orchestras don't sound as good as they do, with the main issue being accuracy of notes, and this high school orchestra nailed it!
Section 1: Prelude/ Dawn 0:00-2:51 Section 2: Storm 2:51-5:53 Section 3: Ranz des vaches/Call To The Cows 5:53-8:26 Section 4: March of the Swiss Soldiers/Finale 8:26-11:45
I am studying this piece for IGCSE Music this year. It is a hard piece to learn let alone play. That was an amazing performance. I was so surprised at the fact that they were high schoolers! They sounded like a professional orchestra. Wow! I bet everyone practices 40 hours a day to get this piece. Congrats to the solo instruments in their respective movements. The whole orchestra deserve way more applause and cheers than they did in this video. This was an utterly amazing performance, a big well done.
@@arissyazwanaman3211 Hahaa! Thanks man. Well managed to get an A* which is an A+ for that exam board so am hugely happy but, I dropped music unfortunately at the end of the year. :(
When I was in Junior High school, my orchestra teacher told us, if we ever called the William Tell Overture “the theme of the Lone Ranger” he would flunk us
Watched this video years ago, then went to Dvorak’s 9th symphony at the New York Phil earlier today. I knew I recognized the English horn playing the 2nd movement... and after a bit of thought, I knew where I saw him. Here he is! Ryan Roberts is now an oboist at the New York Philharmonic.
Since this piece is made up of 4 sections, here are their selective playing times this video, beginning to end (listed in this order): 0:00 - 2:49 Sunrise Over The Alps/Prelude - Dawn 2:50 - 5:54 The Storm (climax 3:56) 5:55 - 8:26 Shepherds on the Mountainside/Call to the Cows 8:27 - 11:43 The Cavalry Charge/March of the Swiss Soldiers For those of you who like to hear each part individually :))
These young people are fantastic. I have heard two other high school orchestras play these big numbers. I love to see young people perform so beautifully.
I CAN'T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I GOT CHILLS IN MY SPINE FROM BEAUTIFUL MUSIC! I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE THESE YOUNG PEOPLE DO SUCH AN AMAZING JOB (PLEASE FORGIVE THE PROUD MOMS & DADS TAKING A FEW PHOTOS) I THINK THEY NAILED IT. IT TOOK ME BACK, WE DID WAGNER'S TANNHAUSER OVERTURE AT PLEASANT HILL HIGH, Ca. (closed) 68/69 YEAR. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK! (I USE CAPS FOR MY VISION, SORRY)
God bless all you young, talented people for sharing your musical skills and appreciation of GOOD music! This brought tears to my eyes, not because of the memories it brought forth but because I see there is still hope for the preservation of fine music and musical presentation!
This is the sheer joy and cumulative effect that music can have on education and living a life of quality. Community, social cooperation, and having fun...unfortunately public education has been the whipping boy for politicians and a music curriculum just one of the casualities!
It's not just politicians, the radicalization of teachers is what pushed today's education into training young children to hate things like this because it's "too White" or "racist" or "created by the patriarchy". Our youth aren't taught to appreciate the past and enjoy the great things those before us have created. The only schools today which still teach children this music are wealthy schools because the parents pay attention and won't let teachers get away with the garbage that has become public school education.
Fantastic performance. And kudos to the videographer and editor. Finally I get to see what I have never seen in any other orchestra video: the ENTIRE ORCHESTRA performing, especially during the most dramatic portions of the piece. It is so enjoyable to see (for more than an obligatory 1 second shot) what is actually making the music we are hearing. It is a thing of beauty, not just for the ears, but for the eyes as well when we get to see the poetic beauty in the motion of the orchestra--which we can only observe when we get to see the ENTIRE orchestra. This is by far the best videography of an orchestra I have see so far, and I have seen many. Thank you!
I was impressed and then I read their a High School orchestra and WOW WOW they have to be so proud. Bravissimo young people. This is one of my favorite pieces and you younglings were 😍
Bless my soul. A bowl of cheerios and my wool blanket. Sitting on the register with my brother, watching the Lone Ranger on a cold winter Saturday morning. Never lost our enthusiasm for classical music.
Holy moment. This is amazing to watch. The piece is one of the all time beautiful and emotional compositions. This orchestra does an amazing rendition and a joy to watch.
you're absolutely right about the Rudolfinum. Fantastic acoustic makes everything about the performance more exciting. The other place is dead as a doornail.
I am elated that so many young people are interested in classical music! An excellent performance too. If there were any flaws, I didn't hear them. Bravo!
Stop it you guys before I start crying again! I am 82 and those words bring back my healthful years of yore and I can't stand being old and unable to perform like my youth. Who would have thought Rossini would write such a piece of music that it would describe PERFECTLY a radio (and TV) program in the 20th century?
@@mikegross6107 I'm 68 and still this overture gives me chills. I still see Clayton Moore astride Silver going after the villain. Later I saw a live performance with the St. Louis Philharmonic and oh what a difference it took my breath away.
This is wonderful playing by the Santa Monica High School Orchestra! Tremendous and well done! I am British and I tend to doubt that this standard could be attained by a UK high school orchestra; I may be quite wrong, but that is my feeling. William Tell is probably the best of all Rossini overtures; an overture with not only 1-2 good tunes but 3-4 of them! I think Rossini would be knocked out if he heard this.
I first fell in love with it as I listened to the Lone Ranger on the radio ! I too, used to speak the introductory words with the announcer Mr. Striker ( I think ) as the show began .
