      My guess would be that it is a stylistic choice to play something that resembels or is the kind of trombone the composer had in mind when writing the piece. Remember that trombones have become bigger and bigger throughout the years. Your trombone with a trigger might have been a "bass trombone" in the composers when this was composed.
