The musicians for knowing this was an epic and unique historical moment and they were knocking it out of this world? The audience that was there enjoying it live? Just performed perfectly, goosebumps. How many opportunities to play a famous pieces of music for the composer. While be conducted by the composer of said music, that is just so awestruck.

Born in '94 and raised with Starwars and Startrek being my favorite movies thanks to my parents also loving them. This theme will never get old, never not be fantastic in ever way!
My only regret was to never play this when I was in an orchestra... then again, we only had wind instruments (no strings thus no violins), and I was playing the saxophone. So the range of sutff we could actually play was quite limited.

@@CristianoRonaldo-wy6tw correct but the restrictions will be lifted at some point, and by that time Williams might have been too old or god forbid not anymore with us, that’s what I meant
It is mid-summer 1977. We have heard so much about this movie from family and friends that we decided it's OK to take our oldest son, who was five, to see this movie. Our other son was just two at this time and much too young. Thru our credit union at work my wife got reserved tickets so we would not have to wait in those looooong lines. As such when the theater opened we who had reserved tickets were allowed in 10 minutes before everyone else. So we got our popcorn, soda, and candy first, then we were escorted to the reserved seating area in the center of the theater with other families. With our son sitting between us, the rolling script comes on and I read it to him. I can see he is transfixed, staring at the screen. From that point on until the end of the movie some two hours later his eyes never left the screen. He hardly ate any popcorn or drank his soda! Usually when we would take him to a movie, while it's playing he would ask us questions about what's going on. Not this time. Other than a yip, or a laugh, or some other reaction, his eyes never left the screen! When it was over, the people screamed and applauded with joy at what we had just seen. IT WAS AMAZING!!! Now I have all the Star Wars movies on DVD and VHS. Full packages all. But there is nothing like when I saw that first Star Wars movie with our son so many years ago!
I had a similar reaction to watching Superman - the movie in 1978 in my local cinema. The audience was nearly all "grown-ups" but we were all like kids in the Saturday morning kids cinema. When Superman caught Lois Lane with one hand and the helicopter in the other and the people down below on the street all cheered - so did we in the cinema. It was areal life enhancing experience. The very next day I was ordering the soundtrack records in my local music shop. I have them today and treasure them still a life enhancing experience thanks to Maestro Williams
Just incredible all around. To think...many musicians in this orchestra were the little kids who first saw Star Wars when it was brand new. What a thrill it must be for them to be where they are now, with this master composer and conductor, playing music of their childhood. It is heart-warming and joyous. As a musician, I get the feels no matter what. But this performance had some extra something special. The force was with them all, for sure. Bravi tutti.
When you think of which composers/conductors had stood in this exact spot to now be his turn, I am sure Mr. Williams felt honoured immensely himself and so we come full circle in a beautiful way.
@@Flex2212Yes, I'm unsure if Beethoven did his 9th in this or a similar building. But performing this with Williams was probably somewhat similar to being chose n to premiere the 9th with the old genius on stage and a non-deaf conductor keeping the tempo.

I must say, I find this recording really charming. It shows that professional musicians sometimes fall into the same pits as amateur musicians do (at least we did, when we played Star Wars). Hence the maestro’s alarmed look at the trumpets (0:24-0:27) who lost tempo at 0:21 by dwelling on the high note for too long… ;-)

Even without seeing the films associated with his music, John Williams is able to evoke strong emotions. He is truly one of the greatest composers of all time.
Forget that this a Soundtrack to an iconic, legendary piece of movie history, this is my most favourite piece of classical music of all time. John Williams can be placed up there with Bach, Handel, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss, Vivaldi, to name but a few, and all the other greatest classical composers of all time. All his works are iconic; legendary; powerful, and he will be remembered as one of the most prolific musical creators of all time.
What I like about his scores, whether it's Star wars, Raiders, Superman, ET, etc, he prepares the audience, and it tells the story. Pure musical genius!
It's a holdover from the traditional grand opera. Each main character gets their own theme and "upcoming arias" are hinted at in the overture. You basically compose backwards: first the final theme, then use fragments earlier (nowadays we might call it foreshadowing). There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. John Williams is always open about his writing techniques. His ability to write complex dovetailing phrases and melody lines (counterpoint), while maintaining everything accessible, is absolutely sublime. Definitely my favorite film composer.

The brass section is insane! Absolutely the best sounding brass performance of this that I've heard. Some credit is certainly due to the audio engineers who also did a brilliant job with the recording / mixing.
@@KMStudios123 There absolutely is mixing involved or this recording would sound like garbage. Audio engineers are the unsung heroes of high quality albums of ALL kinds. The instrument sections have their own microphones, then the stage and hall have even more mics at various positions. My only regret was to never play this when I was in an orchestra... then again, we only had wind instruments (no strings thus no violins), and I was playing the saxophone. So the range of sutff we could actually play was quite limited.

Hi 👋
To be honest, the lines and the wait only fuled the antcipation.
It will be a sad day once this man is gone forever. He put the spark and passion o needed into me and pushed me to become a composer and a high school music teacher. Thank you John for everything you’ve done and continue to do.
I was a (not very good) Horn player in HS when the first Star Wars came out. That music hit me like no other had up to that point, and inspired me to actually practice so I could be able to play it. As I've ended up being a HS/JHS Band director and played in several very good regional orchestras (playing JW's music umpteen times, still gives me goosebumps after 40+ years), it's not very much of a stretch to say that Mr. William's music literally changed my life.
This piece represents all that's good in the world. I'm crying, and not just as a fan of star wars. Remarkable composition.

@@KMStudios123 There absolutely is mixing involved or this recording would sound like garbage. Audio engineers are the unsung heroes of high quality albums of ALL kinds.
