  • Here's a 1972 Buz Watson stage 73 we've restored soon to be on its way home in Texas!! This was a fun project which required quite a bit of work but it made a full comeback! Has our house Retro-blend damper felts, MK1 hammer-tips and iso grommets installed, new key bushings, custom sized bump mod delivers the right amount of light feel without off kilter dynamic range- full complement of Torrington tines, original pickups - all dialed in and tweaked to perfection!

    Your restoration, the sound of this Rhodes, and your playing are all incredible! Buttery and clear with enough growl to match :)

    I could listen to someone playing a Rhodes 24x7. It is the most organic electronic instrument ever made. Fantastic playing.

    Roberta flack absolutely nailed killing me softly on this magnificent instrument. I award the 1972 fender Rhodes 5 stars.

    Incredible. I met buzz back when I restored and repaired Rhodes and clavinets. I used to drive to the factory in Fullerton for parts. That sounds perfect to me - I had several. One, I got from Andrea Crouch out of his garage. Lol. My suitcase was my fave

    That's how a Rhodes should sound pristine. Great job. I'm still waiting for a before and after video where you take a Wurli or Rhodes from beyond repair to like new.

      Thanks for the kind words! We have some before after vids now, all though they are pretty dated!
      Its difficult to shoot before during and after content - as we have allot of proprietary/top secret stuff going on here, Aliens- lasers, time travel etc ;)

    In my opinion the best Rhodes, and this is amongst the best I’ve heard one. Nice attack, but with a full, rounded bell-tone body.

      @@RetrolinearAudio what are those custom
      made bumps do you sell them ?

    • @RetrolinearAudio
      @RetrolinearAudio  3 года назад +2

      @@pascalray We have raw bump material here which varies in height, maybe 5-6 sizes-- with the piano action setup properly we can hone in on which size bump to use, I wish we could sell them however there's allot of steps needed to arrive at which bump size to use, and we can't really convey which size to use, its a feel/setup thing..
      The one size fits all approach does yield some results however there's always some compromise taking that path with universal parts. In the spirit of tweaking we'll generally try 2 or 3 sized bumps, couple keys in each octave to get the best possible feel without mechanical collision, however before we get to that stage the pianos been fully setup minus the bump, so keydip, escapement, tuning, voicing, some damper adjustments etc..
