Its such a blessing living in a time where people can, and do, share their knowledge. I found a Rhodes at a yard sale for 150$. It works, but it needs work. I cant imagine stumbling blindly through something like this. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the world.
I have a Mark ll that I bought brand new,it’s needing a little love so I bought the rebuild kit from Vintage Vibe, can’t wait to get started. Great video and great soundtrack. Thank you from San Luis Obispo California.
Me not being a musician am surprised that these are almost all made from wood. Impressive! Looks like a lot of parts and labor. Must cost a bunch to get one restored.
Hi chaps, thanks for all the information you give out so generously. Quick question - I have replaced my dampers but they came with a lot of glue initially. Do you guys reglue the bridal strap to the damper tongue?
At 21:30 the video shows a Rhodes with metal side blocks. Can anyone explain to me which models have the metal side blocks? Mine has them, but is also a Mark 1 with no felt on the keys. I'm working on the @vintagevibe restoration kit and I was wondering if it was worth it to make wooden side blocks to replace my metal ones. Thanks!
@QLYDE Unfortunately, anything like steel tool or metal polish will remove the zinc plating. In the end, oxidation, while ugly and smelly, does not affect tone too much. Alternatively, relating is a great way to refresh and restore the look and keeps the piano from further deterioration.
Love the video, but it would be great if you gave commentary of how and why you are doing each step.. and of course.. keeping the great music playing in the background. :)
Excellent video! However I have a question. What can I do if the bolts on some of the forks are stuck due to oxide, rust or grease? I picked up my piano at an antique store. Thanks in advance!
Wondering about order of procedure here. The key levelling/key dip being done at the end. I read on the VV website how paramount it is that this be done first as all subsequent adjustment will be directly related it this starting point (positioning of miracle mod etc). Just curious as to what I'm missing here and very very thankful of all the knowledge you guys so freely share.
How do you tell if the damper arms need replacing? I'm inclined to just replace the felt tips, but if it makes sense to replace the arms also I would consider it!
I have seen similar Rhodes Piano repairs that adjusted the key height very early on rather than towards the end (as is the case in this video). Does it matter?
Hey there, I have recently acquired an old Rhodes stage 73 (not Fender) whose first keys (the lowest ones) are crooked as if the keys fell out of place during shipping. Is it easy to get them back into place without breaking the wood or the piano? Thanks so much for your help!
If you had actually watched the video you’d have seen the part where he repositions the keys - and zero parts where he breaks solid wood and metal just by touching it! Incredible!
@@concorde__ Wow! You don’t say! I fixed it a year ago so this is incredibly irrelevant to me now. Are you always replying to old comments in YT? How sad…
Hello, my MKII makes a buzz sound, it's a mass sound if I'm right (maybe not the good term, I'm french) I've tried with a DI box but still there.. Do you have a solution please? Thank you, Ben

A bit of narrative would help to know what it is you are doing along the way. Love the video cam. Thank you.
I learned a lot from you VVguys. Thanks Chris and co for sharing your knowledge. You could have kept it for yourselves...
Thanks for taking us behind the scenes!
Love watching the masters at work!

I was dreaming about that video! thanks Vintage Vibe
Even the camera man was giving a thumbs up!
This video is amazing. Holy Rhodes panning though...love it!

Why replace those hammer tips again at 27:00? Did you want to change density? Thanks for sharing you amazing work btw =D
Yes, correct I wanted to change the density range.

What grade of sand paper is that?
Geurgeus
On pianos key height
Key work is in the beginning.
Because of action geometry.
42:24 Amazing utility knife! Can you share the brand?
Is impressive how big effort you do in this work. My question is if it really worth it. How much is your work and how much is this electric piano?
We’ll the cheapest Rhodes you’ll find is 3k dollars, so it’s probably worth doing lmao
Impressive how you could’ve googled all three questions in your comment but instead opted to ask internet strangers
@@concorde__ here you go again, what a sad little person
@@lucasc5622I bought mine for 2k fully refurbished but I got incredibly lucky, lmao
why does he stop explaining things half way through the video??/ glad im not restoring one that would piss me off.
