I discovered Dane Clark in the Suspense radio series. His acting was so visual he didn't need a screen. A fine actor in another great role here. Thanks for sharing this noir classic.
Dane Clark was a B actor. No awards. No recognition. But, always good acting.
A lot of B actors are like that.
Many of them excellent actors.
Once in awhile, one will break through - like Lee Van Cleef.

Kathleen Byron was best at playing the badgirl, started out strong in 3 great Powell and Pressburger movies, the best being "Black Narcissus", ended up doing B-movies like this one before working mostly in Television.

Not the tightest story, but well done for what I imagine must have been a shoestring budget, e.g. phone room and Lady Susan's room are same set with barely an attempt to disguise it.
For a man who was so drunk he could not stand up, he soon became sober. However, good film....

is that a MGT, or just the license plate? it's a nice unique classic. that's why i like to watch old BW movies see what the past was.
i wondered about that, at first. After checking, I find it's not - neither the MG TA, TB, TC, TD, or TF. It's a more modern design, but I can't find what it is. Never seen it before, so probably something very few of which were made. As you say, it's a nice looking thing; looks strong and powerful.

Yes, looked them up now. I believe it's an Allard J2. Only ninety were made. Engines various, 4.4 to 5.4 litres. Apparently they 'had a disturbing tendency to catch fire when started.'

I' will say he lived. Just think, would you take a dead body home? He dis have a rough night though, with getting shot and hit by a car and all. Remember that the movie started with him getting hit by a car.

Suggestion to viewers: Skip the first 1/3 of the movie since the sound is garbled. The rest of the movie is worth watching. This movie could have been mediocre but all of the actors did a great job, turning it into a bit better than average.

Good movie though ending somewhat wayward. Kathleen Byron sadly stereotyped as hysterical murderess since Blue Narcissus 6 years earlier. Dane Clark puts in a strong performance, and Naomi Chance is too gorgeous for words.
Black Narcissus, you were close.
There was something about Byron's features that made her perfect for those mad/twisted characters that she played early on.

On retrouve Dane Clark dans un film criminel de Patrick Jenkins et Sam Newfield, dont l'histoire anticipe complètement sur "L'Impasse" de De Palma... La recherche de respectabilité d'un ex gangster, désespérée et amère, contrecarrée par la malchance, des fréquentations toxiques, le mépris de classe.
Tragique (une histoire d'amour naïve lui donne de l'espoir), et encore la contamination par la violence.

This is so predictable and slow that it makes 70 minutes seem too long. One surprise, this is the first time I have actually seen a guy bring a knife to a gun fight.
Maybe he wasn’t interested in the fight at all. I think he dropped the knife and walked away

I wasn't a fan of Dane clark after watching most of the one with Simone Signoret. I didn't like his cruel character - even towards children. This movie was on TV and after watching ten minutes I was already interested, so I switched off as I'd missed the beginning and found it on You Tube. Looking forward to watching tonight. The blonde at the table of snobs definitely was great... Well, have to say, a good movie with some nice touches was ruined by a terrible ending: "Yes, take him home." What a let down...

Not boring it was a good story, it had many elements, english class struggle , or class conflict. Even street smart guys can be conned ( gold swindle) like Bre-x . Maybe people who invested in Bre-X watched this movie would have seen the warning signs.
