Let me just say what an honor it was to be able to do the running-in service on your G80. The video came out great and I hope it helps shed some light on the topic for all M owners ✊🏽
@Shrug Media. You mentioned the G80 motor is pretty solid but there are other issues here and there you have seen pop up. I’d be interested in learning what those are. I have a G80 with 2800 miles on it that has been in the dealer for 3 weeks now. I took it in for what I thought was a brake issue (front vibration under braking from med to slow speeds just before the car comes to a completed stop). Also seems to be more apparent when the weather is really hot. Anyway, the tech at my dealership can’t figure out what is wrong (not that they have done much, honestly. So far all they have done is reset the “adaptions”, whatever that is). Now they “think” they need to change the motor mounts but they aren’t really sure. Anyway, super frustrating. Wondering if any of your G80s have experienced anything similar.
I wouldn’t say that’s a G8X issues specifically. It sounds like you’re experiencing a case of defective rotors which can be common on any bmw but less likely on an M depending on how you drive or if you don’t drive the car very often or if you excessively wash the car. M rotors and pads have a self cleaning process they under go when applying the brakes. If you noticed when you purchased the car the rotors had a hatching pattern on them and most people don’t know this but while that pattern is preset it’s recommend to brake normally for 400 miles or until the pattern is gone because that is how the pads bead into the rotors. Getting the rotors extremely hot during that time period and not letting them cool properly can cause high spots which will give you a pulsating/vibration sensation in the steering wheel or front of the vehicle when applying the brakes and the hotter the rotors get the worse the vibration becomes. I highly doubt it’s motor mounts being that one is solid and the other hydraulic like the F8X if I remember correctly and your concern doesn’t involve a clunk or thump. I’d mention this to them and see how they proceed after. Also resetting adaptations is like deleting the memory card of the vehicle. BMWs adapt to how you drive and learn what you like and will behave accordingly. Most of the time it’s performed to reset the the behavior of the engine and transmission back to a neutral state to see how the vehicle responds after and being that the tech who’s working on your vehicle did that and the issue is still present I can see how they’d come up with motor mounts. This is just my thought on it. I could be complete wrong and I could be a totally different issue even I haven’t run into yet.
A thing about break in oils in general. They have a lot lower lubricity then conventiional full synth etc and a different detergent and dispersant package. This is to allow mainly piston rings to bed in and avoid glazing with very slippery oils nowadays. It's a worse oil on purpose. It's recomended to avoid high rpm with these oils and high temperature/ loads as it's oxidising very fast and degrading a lot lot quicker than synth.
As a future g80c owner, this is one of the most informative videos out there on y/t. Great job in explaining why you should not drive it like you stole it until the breakin service is done. Well done gentleman!
I just had my break-in on my G82 M4, now watching your video finally made me understand what has been done to the car and why. Thank you so much for the informative upload!
I had a few BMWs that were brand new in my lifetime. One of them was the E 60 550i and I broke it in. The car felt and was faster after 1200 miles. I believe the transmission also learns your driving habits and shifts accordingly, this was in 08. I also had a new e90 335i and a first gen X6 50i which gave me hell and was my last new bmw since then.

And by chance if sales guy forgets to mention about 1,200 miles, customer could easily keep driving even if it pops in your dashboard, they might think it’s a Service reset Error. Happens to buddy of mine and went over 2,000 miles before someone told him. It was his first M car and had no clue

Appreciate the video! It seems the aftermarket exhaust wasn't a concern or issue. Would love to hear more about how dealerships handle those kinds of mods with the warranty.

Great video! Well done. Really interesting and well explained. I am in the process of moving from an F80 to ordering a new G80 - so found this particularly interesting.
You could always do that to see but it's not necessary. Just be careful since you'll have a risk of cutting your hands with that filter after you cut it up.
@@TheDailyDriven There is a lot of things that can cut you working on a car, would suggest a hand pipe saw works the best with out much effort or concern I do it all the time. Great content man and good production. I ordered a G82 Comp XDrive last month that will be here in Jan (hopefully). Your channel is very informative and I appreciate your effort.
Thank you. I gotta thank the other two for helping out on answering some of the important questions and being able to film it. Congrats on the upcoming G82. You'll love it and from what i've seen, production has been moving a bit more smoother.
As a new owner of an M4 CSL, it has been painfully hard to hold back (she so wants to GO). Even my engineering friends telling me how great machining, tooling, fluids, etc. are these days, that I don't need to worry about break in - that's a load of hot horse shit. Be gentle with your new baby, and eventually she'll give you more than you would ask.
Great Video... I learned a lot about my 2022 BMW M4 Comp Brooklyn Grey/ black interior. One of the questions I would of ask... Since my car is not a driven daily... only Saturday and Sundays in Southern California. What issues should I be looking for...... My car is garage and has not been in the rain. (Full PPF on the exterior and the windshield)
One question that didn't seem to get answered: If you have an ultra low mileage garage queen and drive less than 1000 miles a year. BMW recommends an oil change every year and I believe iDrive will say an oil change is needed after 1 year. Do you still keep the break-in oil after 1 year until it reaches 1200 miles, even if it takes 2 years?
I want ding you guys to 😂badly but the technician absolutely forgot about the S55 platform with the DCT which is still held as one of the best next to the E 92 V8. 😊.
Great video, really enjoyed it and I think it's something new M owners should watch before they make a mistake with their new cars.. One note - your music is mixed in way, way too loud. Scared my cat right out of my office! 🙂
I just had my f82 engine replaced due to metal from the rod bearing failing. It's under warranty and they replaced the whole thing. 46,000 for a the job 😬
Very informative video! For manual M cars, is the transmission fluid being replaced at the1200 mile mark as well? Did not notice it in the video. Still waiting for mine manual G80 (Dealer said hopefully Spring of 2023).
@@ShrugMedia what’s your personal opinion on the “lifetime” tranny fluid? If you got an M3 and planned to keep it for life, would you ever let a BMW tech change the fluid? I’ve seen so many different answers to this lifetime fluid😭 Incredible video btw!
I can say I’m a believer in it. I own a 08 335i 6 speed manual I got the car with 40k miles on it and when I changed my OEM clutch out at 98k miles I also changed the tranny fluid… to my surprise the color of the fluid coming out was the same as the new I put in and to my knowledge In the 3 years I had owned the car at the time it had never been changed from the previous owner or at the dealer. I’d only recommend replacing the fluid if you heavily track the car and get the fluid very hot often. I track my F80 now and I’ll more than like do a fluid change after a few more track days.
For a second I thought I know who “homeboy” was until he said the guy waited months for a new s58. Cause a friend of a friend bought a G82 this week and the second day of ownership he was doing donuts and burnouts to “break the car in” 🤡 but surprisingly he had no problems with the car but we’ll see lol.
There's probably a ton of people who don't obey the break in process and ect. Majority will prob get lucky and nothing will happen in the short term or never. It's the unknown long term effects and just listening to the engineers that created this masterpiece 👌🏻
Yeah most likely you will, usually when you bring it in they'll do that all for you. And when you get your service breakdown it should say on your receipt
There is a video from Tampa BMW dealership where they do the full 1200m post break in service to a G87 and they inspect the filter and it’s got metal shavings!!! Is this an issue with the S58?
Great informative video! Ben is for sure the goat 😂✊🏽 … Ken check your car because it will have his signature somewhere on it haha. He’s worked on all of ours cars here in Orlando
I deactivated the running-in service on his instrument cluster. Letting the DME know that the car is now ready for the owner to push it to its full limits.
Twinkie learned a lot in Tokyo, and moved from VW to BMW!! 😂😂😂 Jokes aside, He knows what’s up and explained everything very well. And I’m pretty sure Homeboy established a record of a blown brand new engine. Now, my question is, the break-in is only by 1200 Miles, or time is involved (for instance, 1200 Miles or up to 6 months)??
Yep…everything except for brakes, rotors, and I believe windshield wipers under 36000 miles are included. You have the option to purchase service plans that includes everything.
I just did my break in service close to 1400 miles. When I've purchased the car the dealership said I can come in for the service somewhere around 1200 miles, but never stated that going over it for a bit would be a bad thing... Since they couldn't give me an appointment right away, I thought some extra miles breaking the car in would be a good thing, so I drove a bit longer, only to find out now this is actually a bad idea... It really sucks to hear this can damage the car. Should I be worried?
Hi Tim, I actually just spoke with Ben and this is what he said. "He should be fine only thing is bmw won’t let him get CPO warranty if he ends up keeping the car and wanting warranty later down the road. If the first owner sells the car or trades it in at bmw it won’t be considered a certified pre owned because he missed the run in service by 200 miles. That would affect the second owner"
@@TheDailyDriven Thanks for that! I went to my dealer yesterday and they said all is good. I came in at 1384 miles. They said bmw allows a 10% over and warranty is fine. Too bad they never mentioned before how important this matter is. I feel bad for my car, and hope I wont get any problems with the engine. Thanks for the help!!
@@tim-grand I mean you didn't see the notification in iDrive everytime you started the car saying break in service due in 1200, 1100, 1000....100 miles????? Absolutely clueless.
Recently, I've experienced a significant drop in instant acceleration, and the exhaust sound is noticeably quieter than before. Specifically, there is a pronounced lag in acceleration from 0 to 2000 RPM, followed by a sudden jump in performance once it exceeds 2000 RPM. This issue is especially apparent when pushing on the gas, where there is no longer a smooth transition in acceleration. Could you please advise if this is a common issue across BMW models or if it might be specific to my vehicle? I am keen to understand the cause of these problems and to explore potential solutions or necessary repairs. i haven't done the break in yet, i wish @shrugmedia could help, BMW dealer keep saying its normal and i don't believe it.
To be honest this is the first time I'm seeing this. I haven't read this on the forms as of yet. Seems like you were below the braking service miles. I would still go through the breaking process of driving it moderately and after you go to the breaking service see if that changes. Obviously if things persist and it's not functioning right the BMW text should be able to point it out. If you are dissatisfied with the service there maybe check with another one. Or ask around for any other service centers
I know the feeling when there's an open road to full send but patience is key 🔑. I see it as the peace of mind after following the procedure. Sure there's factors where something may still happen but I rather give the car the best shot 👍🏻
I never understood why people think they could do anything without listening to that break in service and thinking its a myth like no it’s a BRAND NEW car in testing period and telling itself it’s going to be used a certain way to run smoothly. It’s like training your body for a sport and getting it in shape to do bigger and better things.
Good stuff, but way too many times u interrupted the tech right when he’s explaining things. Let the man talk and finish his point before interrupting him. That was kind of annoying not gonna lie. Otherwise, the content is cool.
It's nice to see the process but he is 100% wrong about the power. The power is 100% full out of the factory. People have dynoed the car and saw full HP/TQ from the engine stock at 20 miles. I'm not sure why people keep parroting this and thinking that even as a certified tech, but it's absolutely not true.
If I ever buy another high performance car it will definitely be one off of the truck. Like as close to zero miles as possible. Think about all the yahoos who test drive these cars and how they will drive them. Not to mention the employees working there, they will also hammer on these cars. After seeing how people “test drive” evos I made sure the only person to drive the car was the delivery truck to get it off the truck and the mechanic who did the pdi. Lots of people will pretend to want to buy one just to take it for a crazy ass drive. They have no intention of buying it, also the salespeople will drive them like they stole them.

I did my G80 break-in Service @ 850 miles. BMW said anything over 800 was fine by BMW.
Nice. You got to enjoy the car a little sooner than I did 🍻
Ben and Ken great video!
Thank you!!🍻
For a second I thought I know who “homeboy” was until he said the guy waited months for a new s58.
This was super helpful. Thanks
If mine a Xdrive, do i also need to change front-diff oil too? i guess
Very typical on break in oil change. Subsequent oil changes should have little to no metal present.
Great informative video! Ben is for sure the goat 😂✊🏽 … Ken check your car because it will have his signature somewhere on it haha. He’s worked on all of ours cars here in Orlando
🤫🤫🤫
very imformative. another banger vid!
Ben did a great job 👏🏻
Meanwhile you can redline a GT3 pulling out of the dealership, head straight to the track and not worry about a thing
I thought he was going to explain what he activates/deactivates in the computer system. He kept saying we will get to that….
I deactivated the running-in service on his instrument cluster. Letting the DME know that the car is now ready for the owner to push it to its full limits.
@@ShrugMedia one last question. Do all BMW dealers add Ceratec? If not will that void the warranty? Thank you.
No actually. I brought a bottle of that to the video shoot to add. I always like to add a bottle after every 30k miles. Special thanks to LiquiMoly 🤘🏻
great video, real informative
Twinkie learned a lot in Tokyo, and moved from VW to BMW!! 😂😂😂
Jokes aside, He knows what’s up and explained everything very well. And I’m pretty sure Homeboy established a record of a blown brand new engine. Now, my question is, the break-in is only by 1200 Miles, or time is involved (for instance, 1200 Miles or up to 6 months)??
What are you even saying?
Ok so what happen to connecting it to the thing & unlocking ot
I assume the breakin service is included in the price of the car?
Yep…everything except for brakes, rotors, and I believe windshield wipers under 36000 miles are included. You have the option to purchase service plans that includes everything.
Yes sir. 👍🏻
@@Nguyenduc09 or 3 years, which ever comes first
So what im hearing is that it's a junk box then if that 200 miles is a big deal
You should try the Inked Custom Midpipe
Well said 👏👏
Thank you!
Hi Tim,
I actually just spoke with Ben and this is what he said.
Thanks for the video
👍🏻👍🏻🍻
I own a G80 M3 comp xdrive and haven’t been following the break in process lmao 🤣
#FullSend lol.
I thought I was following it per rpm, now I get to hear that I should not go over 110 mile/hr. I just did 123 miles/hr yesterday.
Anything happen a year later ? 😭
Great video man! very informative I have 400miles on mine , Now i know a lot more about my car. i smiled when he said reliable yessss!
I know the feeling when there's an open road to full send but patience is key 🔑. I see it as the peace of mind after following the procedure. Sure there's factors where something may still happen but I rather give the car the best shot 👍🏻
Great video!
Thank you !!
Bro what ray bans are those ?
2k on the Miata idk about that. I got $1200.00 cash for it
I never understood why people think they could do anything without listening to that break in service and thinking its a myth like no it’s a BRAND NEW car in testing period and telling itself it’s going to be used a certain way to run smoothly. It’s like training your body for a sport and getting it in shape to do bigger and better things.
Brooks from Dragtimes is cringing RN 😂😂😂 he just sends it and seems to be fine
You got some husky calves 💪🏻💪🏻 lol. Super good information as usual🤜🏻🤛🏻 gotta say tho, low key. SB dunk highs > J’s 😉🤣🤘🏻
Is the Liqui Moly standard procedure? Or was it a special hookup from Brandon? 😅
Lol it's a special hook up from the team at LiquiMoly 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻💯
Yoooo I used to work there as a tech! 🤣
We miss you buddy!!!
lets get it!!!!!!
🍻🍻🍻
Good stuff, but way too many times u interrupted the tech right when he’s explaining things. Let the man talk and finish his point before interrupting him. That was kind of annoying not gonna lie. Otherwise, the content is cool.
I'll keep that in mind. Thank you.
cant just be wearin some 1s and not acknowledge!
🍻🍻🍻
Damn that’s shrug 👍
He did a awesome job explaining it all
Cool hat lol
Lubrimoly in a new motor that clogs the oil filter media very bad 😢
I don't use Lubrimoly. I use LiquiMoly
How much did you spend on that fancy camera equipment lol
....a lot lol
If I ever buy another high performance car it will definitely be one off of the truck. Like as close to zero miles as possible. Think about all the yahoos who test drive these cars and how they will drive them. Not to mention the employees working there, they will also hammer on these cars. After seeing how people “test drive” evos I made sure the only person to drive the car was the delivery truck to get it off the truck and the mechanic who did the pdi. Lots of people will pretend to want to buy one just to take it for a crazy ass drive. They have no intention of buying it, also the salespeople will drive them like they stole them.
The drama lol
Thanks for watching
Aaaand this is why my friend sold him BMW to get a Honda lol
good video
Thank you 🙌
“Homeboy” fucked around and found out.
Homeboy learned that day lol 😆
Get a new rear no problem under warranty
What are you even referring to? Where in this video do you see that being needed
