DISMOUNTING TIRES MANUALLY! THE HOW AND WHY I DO IT THIS WAY.

- i need to get some tires dismounted so the aluminum wheels can be polished and the steel wheels can get sand blasted and painted. i am going to take advantage of this and put some 22.5" tires on my little rollback.
Hey JC love the videos! I’m glad you got a better microphone too! It was sometimes hard to hear you in the videos but with the new mic it’s crystal clear!
Born and raised in Trumbull County, What would I do with the rollback? I moved south 27yrs ago, so I would never buy another rust belt truck again....LOL. My last two semi's never went north of TN and had all factory paint on the frame with no rust. Changed 8 airbags on a KW suspension with a wrench and ratchet. Didn't even struggle breaking the bolts lose, truck was 17 yrs old when I did the work.
if you live in ohio, you deal with rust, it is just part of the deal.
Uuuhh…, well sir it is quite apparent that you have done this a few times before. You made that look pretty damn easy.
Great video,
Thank you sir.
cant have as much old junk as i do and not do this a time or two.
@@j.c.smithprojects hahaha..
That's the way I change mine. I also like the balance beads. They seem to work very well.
Always nice to gain some ground clearance J.C 🙂👍 I don't blame you on your rollback plans. I really should knuckle down and engine swap my brown F700. That 8.2T detroit is *tired* 🥱
Build the blue truck, love the potential it has. Solid bones.
hello J.C & Mrs. Smith & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool & Thanks & J.C & Mrs Smith & Friends Randy
I've done 10 tires off and 10 tires on while a buddy totally screwed up a tire and still had not dismounted it. 15 years ago I did did property cleanups (Story for another time). and ended up with over 200 wheels, all steel auto & small truck & 40 or so semi wheels. Started Saturday morning and by 6pm Sunday the trailer was loaded n ready for the scrap yard. I done it by hand just like you did. That was a good weekend
Personally I think that rollback is worth fixing the problems you mentioned. Sure it has some rust but doesn't appear to be anything horrible, needs complete brake work and redeck the bed. But once that work is done you'll still have a good reliable rollback tow truck
its been a great truck. i think i will plan to do the brakes. even if i part it out, i will move the axles to another truck anyway.
You make that look entirely too easy! Your experience shows. Thanks for the tips.
Great video J.C.Smith thanks for sharing your way of dismounting tires. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Mr & Mrs J.C.Smith.
I think personally I would fix the blue truck. It's a running driving unit. Needle scale the frame fix the fuel tank. Redo the bed.
Considering the power train is good, it seems like it would be easier to just swap the cab with a better one. Keep the chassis and roll back together.
I liked the way you explained the process at 3:30 or so
Great method. I have a bead breaker that looks like a tire iron with a sliding weight. Hammer style bead breaker are bouncy for me. Now that bead breaker is in the corner serving as a reminder of my days past. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.
If using dish soap as tyre lube try to find some with no salt in as the salt will corrode the wheel dish once the tyre is mounted. Particularly on alloy wheels.
didnt ever know there was salt in that soap. i use murphys soap but used dish soap for the demonstration.
@@j.c.smithprojects I learned that to my cost on a tubeless motorcycle rim.
34 👍's up JC thank you for sharing 🤗
We had a f700 in the junkyard with 9.00-20 split rims. That's how I took the tires off
Those that can do. THose that cannot post critiques. I wish I could work 1/10 as hard as you do.
Roll backs go for good money where I am. However I don't know your market. How much time the frames have before it needs a full over hual? All I know, would be but tires on you like, run it intill you have the other unit built. Then pick best option at that time. Alot can change in few months.
As fuel gets more expensive the better geared truck may be your best bet as you have the bed off change out the deck but you are the best at the details.
You asked thats what I think after watching you for a couple of years
one of my problems is i will see other things that need attention while im fixing those things. next thing you know its months later and it turned into a complete resurrection.
Do you have a preference on the spoon/breaker bar and /bead breaker you use? Forgive me if i didn’t use the proper names.
Like you, i like good tools, but sometimes it just doesn't matter because a less expensive tool will still give you the same results and last just as long. Money is tight these days, so I'm trying to get the best tool affordable.
Next question, i assuming you use the same methods on aluminum rims, I would have thought you would need rubber covers or something like that to protect the finish. So the same tools are good for aluminum as well?
Thanks for your time, i know you're a busy... busy man. And thank mrs. Smith for me as well, her hard work and commentary helps you and us and you especially.
A KEM Brand is any good tire tool...
Small bites with the pry bars help a lot.
Until such a time as you have a good useable alternative, do whatever servicing tasks are needed to keep this frequently used truck safe and trouble free. The value is in the use.
Thx 4 sharing 2day, I don't do many but those 19.5's seem tougher to do.
Keep this blue rollback patched up and running well enough/ safely, while you build a new version that suits your needs better.
Then sell this current rollback or part it out. Whichever brings the best dollar for the time involved
Building a new rollback would be great material for the channel. Bonus points.
Just my $.02.
👍your choice 👍 build multiple trucks because parts are expensive and delivery delays 🤔reduce trucks inventory for spring 🎉
I don’t think I’ve ever made a cost effective decision when it comes to vehicles.
Brah! Same! My channel proves that🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻
I would fix all the rust spots. I would do a complete break job on it, repaint the truck frame
8:52 from thumb point to pinky point that's 20 cm so about 8 inches, yeah.
If you have an extra cab, i think it would be cheaper. And on the long run you would have it a long time..Or if not sell it
11:45 right wheels on the right truck do wonders.
You got all the parts it would make a great content to redo it in today's economy it would be cheaper to keep her
Lube. Bebit soap or the higher pricrd stuff from Tech. Meyers or Murphy is something not to be stingy with. I bought the serpent style tools and they are a little faster than the two tool method but yours are probably able to do 17.5 tires but the serpent are just too big for them but 19.5 up one to demount one to mount.
i use murphy soap to install. i do car tires up to semi tires with these bars.
Good video 👍🏼
Changing out tires on stuff definitely gets expensive faster than people think. I've got some old steel dually rims I need to sandblast, paint, and mount some good rubber on too. What do you use for primer and paint on rims?
I'm not sure where you set your per-hour rate for your own labor but you do a lot of labor intensive things that would be cost prohibitive for someone to pay for but you have the time to do it. If you can make more money with your time fixing and selling other trucks, vs. rebuilding your current rollback, that's the logical thing to do. If you have the time and ambition, maybe swap the cab, clean up the frame and do what it needs to be right. I would sell it myself.
it is far easier for me to justify building the rollback i want than to put more into this one. the time i would spend fixing the cab and hood alone would have the other one in the shop with the bed mounted. i already own everything to put together the one i want. the time is always my biggest cost.
I’d keep it and continue to make it better. It’s a known quality so it won’t surprise you with major challenges.
Like the truck , but honestly I would sell it as a whole and use that money to build the rollback that you really
I would build the rollback that I wanted.
I wouldn't sink time and money into it. That bed is better suited on a larger truck that has more power. I would drive it for now and part it out and put that bed on a chassis that is better suited.
Known quantity; keep it.
😎👍
Go ahead and put a couple more thousand and then you have some
What size are the tire irons your using
If it fits your needs I don’t see why you wouldn’t put the time and money into it. You do the repairs, make it better, use it and then when it comes time to sell it you’ll probably have recouped you cost and will probably be able to sell it and still come out on top. That’s just what I would do if it were me.
11R22.5 requires 8.25 inch wide rim
You forgot the most used tool The energy it takes ! I'm just messing with you as that is how i grew up doing tires !
You’re asking the wrong people what to do with a truck. Most people aren’t as particular as you are and would probably run it and just fix the issues as they come up. The problem I see if you say you’re going to switch to something different is there always seems to be something standing in line in front of your personal projects
I would fix her up and either sale it or keep it for a back up
I feel like you are kinda in a bad spot with that roll back. It's not the truck you want so when you get the truck you want done it needs to go. It's sorta too good of a truck part out. Not worth enough to make a profit if fixed it right. You're too good of a person to puff it and try to sell it. But it also needs to be safe while you are still using it and you know the new roll back will take longer than you want it to. I don't know what the best plan is.
that is exactly the issue. in order for me to be ok with selling it, i will need to invest too much time and money to make it profitable. the only way i can justify all the work is if i plan to use it for at least another year.
I have a set I will drop off that needs sand and paint also
I'd keep it just until you got your other one the way you want it and then send it down the road as it is.
Send it down the road.
Sell/part out
Sell it as is. Make those COE roll backs!!!!!
those k100's will be a heavy rollback and wrecker. i will still need a smaller, lighter rollback.
@@j.c.smithprojects I can’t wait for that project!!!! Also what’s going on with that garbage truck rolloff you started? The one where you used the old frame to make the rack? Saw it in background.
I know this comes off as being insulting J.C. and if you remember me then you know thats not even close to my intention. Like you, if your time is too valuable to stop and fix to your standards of quality. A young guy with a place to work on a project like this takes out the interior, fixes the rust by cutting out all the bad, osphoing all the bottom since thats the place that is questionable. No matter where in the USA, mice are in our equipment. I always make too long a comment because of what I do know and have done myself can't be said in just a sentence or three. Your in a business of selling for profit and yet making sure it doesn't come back on you. Most are sold as is and where is, no blah blah blah. I know that to have parts to use, you don't start with junk, and so good parts are a must and using a good truck for parts makes most sense that having a few parts and the rest junk. I look at it as here in alaska, since it is a great running truck with rust issues, they are all repairable. You have to have a CNC table and make all your own patch panels. It takes too long to make individual making it a piece at a time and still get the many projects you try in a day that always takes up to a week as you always keep finding more wrong, don't have a shop for just doing this type of repairs. I won't tell you to lower your standards as no one can do that to me. There are people who in their area and good at doing this kind of work, have the time and only a few tools to do it, but get it done very good. I also know you think your not a welder but few can hold a candle to your work, have the nice tools that you now have now, have learned how to do this kind of work from watching youtube as google is their friend. I look at google and just wonder how dang good a friend google is when it tells you what to say, corrects the spelling and can almost hear what your thinking. Its like having a spi in the room. Our government is up our tailfeathers in spi work. STOP RIGHT HERE MORGAN. This comment is now a book length novel. You have better time to do other things besides listen to a old man who doesn't even know you and how you do stuff. Sorry I offended anyone
i dont pay people to do work because i always end up going right behind them and doing it over anyway. i have decided to go ahead and fix the brakes next. i want to keep it safe and reliable. after i build the rollback i want, i will part this one. i will use the axles on another truck, so i wont be wasting any money.
Just use it build what you really want then sell it , fix it up if you can make your money back.
Take the $12k and fix the other one to replace it.
Put a toddler tire in the back because you got more weight in the back when you hauling something
taller tire in the rear will affect the abs.
Ride it while you’re building the next one then adios as is because you’ll end up following someone’s poor work.
Sell the truck. Build something you really can use for a long time
