I am new to crochet, and must tell you how much I appreciate your videos. You explain well (not to much, but just enough), and you go SLOWLY with your stitches. You also show the placement into the correct stitch very clearly. Thank you also for providing such lovely patterns. I am going to try this scarf as my first 'real' project for a donation. I look forward to trying your other patterns in time! I just wanted to thank you for what you're doing Heather....it's really appreciated!
Thank you so much for this great tutorial! I didn't think I could break outside my crocheting comfort zone but you made this so easy to follow and I learned so much from you. Thanks again!
Thank you so so much for this tutorial!! I crocheted and frogged for about three hours before I got it down. Then I worked a few rows on different fibers: worsted weight acrylic, medium weight acrylic, and cotton thread. I finally loved the weight and feel of this pattern on double stranded cotton crochet thread... so modified the pattern to build a scarf. I'm currently working on it now. I literally worked on this for 8 hours straight. Your instructions and tricks really worked for me!! I love your explanations and the way you explain how to create difficult stitches!! THANK YOU!!!
I know it can seem confusing at first. The pattern can look very different depending on the yarn and i'm glad you found what worked for you. Thanks for the message.
Great tutorial! Deceivingly easy pattern. I thought it was going to be hard. I'm definitely adding this to my go-to patterns. LOVE IT! So pretty and so fun to do. I love that I don't have to really think when doing a project with this pattern. Thanks for this video.
Thanks so much Heather for the tutorial! I was able to follow it easily and made a few modifications so my shells can pop more. I made my shells consist of 4 Htc, ch 2, 4 Htc and it gave my scarf a nice bold look. I'll post once I'm done but it looks great so far. Your tutorial really helped ease confusion for me. Keep up the great work!
This is a very nice tutorial. I am definitely going to try this. You speak very clearly. Also, pointing to the stitches really does help! Thank you!! :)
PS Yes, as someone mentioned, pointing to the stitches is very helpful. Also I found that your pointing out the last two stitches of the shell was very helpful. It's so easy for me to get confused, not realizing that they are the second part of the shell! Oh, and now I finally know the correct way of stitching into the turning chain, I would always skip a chain, and then have the dreaded crooked edge issues.
I know what you mean about turning chains. I stayed away from doing them for years after I finally figured it out. It took me a while. That's why I try to explain it as best as I can so other's don't do the same. Thanks! Heather
Your soft but very clear voice and also very clear instructions, made this a wonderful tutorial! Thank you for not rushing through it and taking the time and the patience to go step by step and row by row. That's so important, especially to newbies like me. I look forward to seeing many more of your tutorials!
HI, Thanks for the message I'm glad you found the pattern. I know how confusing this pattern can seem until you get into it a little bit. I uploaded several tutorial in the last week and have more to come. Stop by again. Take care Heather
Yes, but it becomes much more easy very quickly into it. And is very pretty and versatile. You take care as well!!! Definitely will be stoppin' by and crocheting here again!!! Thank you!!!
You saved my day! I bought some clearance yarn today and there was a pattern for a scarf on it,and after 5 attempts I realized the pattern had a flaw, so I searched for something similar and found this video! I am onl row 4 and it is a breeze. Great instructions. Only comment after finishing...it is too thin. Maybe next time I will use thicker yarn!
I was looking for something quick and easy but pretty. I started this scarf and was finished in little over an hour or less. Once I started following your tutorial the scarf was a breeze to complete Thanks Heather. It turned out beautiful.
thank you. I was able to follow your instructions but however, I stopped and rewind many many times. I'm a slow learner but also a beginner. But my scarf is starting to take shape. I'm using 48 stitches to start. It will be a nice wide scarf.
Hi I have enjoyed making this scarf but I cant get the end right, I have tried and tried but being a beginner I seem to just get a scallop shape on the end and not a straight row like at the begging. please can you help? a video would be best. thanks
+Josette Falcidia Sorry it took so long to get back....you can do 1htc in every stitch. Don't go into the chain spaces like you do for the rest of the pattern. Let me know if you need anything else! Heather
+Judy Rogers Hi, You can do 1 HTC in EACH stitch across the entire row, ignoring the chain spaces. Usually you ignore the HTC's that make up the shells but not on the last row. Let me know if you have any questions, Heather
+Heather Gibbs I just can't get it right, (the end) I am new to crochet and after making the scarf reasonably ok I really could do with a video to show the end thanks x I keep trying
Hi Kathy, If you want to you can do 1hdc in each stitch across the entire row. Don't worry about the ch spaces left by the shells. Just work in the tops of the stitches.
How do you finish off the scarf and I wanted to do it in two colors so do I just tie on and pull the new color through the last 3 loops before I turn my work?
+Jaye Ramirez Yes, exactly (the color change). To finish it you can do 1HTR in each and every stitch. Ignoring any chain spaces. Let me know if you need anything let me know, Heather
Love the pattern. Love the scarf. Just having a hard time understanding the last row. Did the scarf using double crochets. If I do single crochet for the last row it does not form a straight edge.
Heather, I made this and it came out beautiful except that the sides curl. I made an edging which helped but it still curls some. Can you help with this?
+Eydie Merwitzer Did you do the turning chain correctly? That's the only thing that wouldn't make the rows even and might create a curl. That's the only thing I can think of.
I thought I did??? I'm going to make another in a different color.I love the lacy pattern. I'll try to be more careful and see how it goes. Thanks for responding so quickly, Heather.
I made this scarf with your clear instructions....and I am definitely a newbie. Thanks so much!!! Do you mind sharing what kind of yarn you used? I used what I had and it was much thicker but still beautiful.
hi Eileen, Yes you could just make it much shorter and end it there. Make it wider, if needed, by adding extra chains to the beginning chain. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks, Heather!
The last row could be a row of all Half Double Crochets to match the beginning row. You would do 1 HDC in each stitch and chain space. You don't have to but you can if you'd like to. Heather
I would like to make this as an infinity scarf. How many do you recommend I chain before connecting? Then I'll start the rows in a round. Maybe 10 or 12 times. ?? Thoughts?? Thank you!!
You get the number of chains by adding or subtracting in multiples of 6 from 22.. So start with 22 then add/subtract 6,12,18,24,30,36 etc. Let me know if you need more help. Thanks Heather
Heather Gibbs In the third row, after the two last stiches, while doing the last one why did you grab only one loop and not two(front and back)? It seems like you're grabbing the front loop
iolh17 Hi, It's because it's just a chain not a stitch. That's why it looks like that why. It probably looks like i'm going through the back loop but it's just a chain. Thanks for the message Heather
Hi Heather....Really enjoyed this tutorial. Was wondering...when finishing the scarf are we to end it as we started it? I mean like the foundation? Because that is how I am going to finish it. So that both ends look the same.
Hi Mary, you can end by doing 1 HTC in the top of EACH stitch and 1 in the center of the Shell. You don't what to skip over anything, do 1HTC in the turning chain to end. Let me know if you have any other questions...THanks Heather
How do you make the last row look like the first row? Shall I just find a way to incorporate 18 1/2 triple crochets? After doing so many rows of shells, I'd like to see how to repeat the very first row as an ending. Awesome pattern by the way.
Yes, on my website under this videos pattern is another pattern written with Double Crochets. Ive been asked before so I wanted to redo it. It's at crochetpatterns09.blogspot.com/2009/08/crochet-lace-shell-scarf.html Let me know if you have any other questions. Heather
+Josephine W Martinez Yes, the link to the pattern is the first line in the description under the video. All my videos have it set up that way. Thanks. Let me know if you have any other questions :) Heather

Perfect pattern for some gorgeous yarn I've been saving. This tutorial is great - clear and easy to follow. Thanks for posting it!
This is a very nice tutorial. I am definitely going to try this. You speak very clearly. Also, pointing to the stitches really does help! Thank you!! :)
I'm glad. I never know how it will look to others.
Thanks!
Heather

Thank you so much for sharing this pattern. You made this tutorial so understandable. I have made 2 scarves with your pattern and love them.
My new favourite pattern. Thank you, you're a great teacher. XX
+Elyse Rose Just what I was going to say
I just finished my scarf and I love it thanks for such a great tutorial
You're more then welcome!!
Clear and easy to follow. Thank you for sharing.
Excellent video and teaching technique!!! Your tension is awesome - hope to see more posting. Great Job!
Awe, Thank you so much. So sweet!

Thanks for the message. I like it too because it's really quick to make. :)
Heather
thank you very much! Very concise. I picked up the pattern very easily~ :) it definitely appears more difficult than it is~
that's my trick. to make it look difficult but in the end it's easier. Hop u like it
Thank you for your tutorial, it is a lovely design. Look forward to seeing more of your tutorials. Thnx.
Thank you😊 very clear instructions and lovely pattern!

It is a gorgeous look! ♥
very grateful. i had been wanting to make t a wrap in this pattern, now i will be making it asap. silvia.
really easy and looks great tysm for making this pattern
thank you. I was able to follow your instructions but however, I stopped and rewind many many times. I'm a slow learner but also a beginner. But my scarf is starting to take shape. I'm using 48 stitches to start. It will be a nice wide scarf.
Also is it ok to use a hdc or sc instead of the htc as a foundation, I just think it's a little to big for the ends.
This pattern looks so simple!
It very deceiving...it looks hard but isn't. :)
Thank you for such a lovely tutorial :)

+Heather Gibbs thanks for getting back to me, I did find a way to make it look ok in the end. thank you, it looks quite nice
Is that way you can flip the video for a left handed person, and is it ok to use a j-10 or H hook?
Hi Heather I love this pattern you are so easy to follow. Thanks Could you please comment here on how to finish the end row...Thankyou!
+Judy Rogers Hi, You can do 1 HTC in EACH stitch across the entire row, ignoring the chain spaces. Usually you ignore the HTC's that make up the shells but not on the last row.
Let me know if you have any questions,
Heather
+Heather Gibbs I just can't get it right, (the end) I am new to crochet and after making the scarf reasonably ok I really could do with a video to show the end thanks x I keep trying
how do you finish this scarf? the htc as the other end,,,with the row of htc
Hi Kathy, If you want to you can do 1hdc in each stitch across the entire row. Don't worry about the ch spaces left by the shells. Just work in the tops of the stitches.

+Jaye Ramirez Yes, exactly (the color change). To finish it you can do 1HTR in each and every stitch. Ignoring any chain spaces. Let me know if you need anything let me know, Heather
would this scarf look good with fringe?
Love the pattern. Love the scarf. Just having a hard time understanding the last row. Did the scarf using double crochets. If I do single crochet for the last row it does not form a straight edge.
+Debbie Stargazer Hi, you can finish with a row of DC. Do 1Dc in each stitch, ignoring all chain spaces.
+Eydie Merwitzer If the sides are completely straight then it wouldn't be the TCH. Not sure what else it could be.
Hi love your tutorial . One of the easier demonstrations to follow, thanks for that!! Just wondering how you finish off the other end?
I made this scarf with your clear instructions....and I am definitely a newbie. Thanks so much!!! Do you mind sharing what kind of yarn you used? I used what I had and it was much thicker but still beautiful.
Hi Lisa,
I used Caron 1 pound yarn. One of my favorites because it's nice and soft....and you get a lot of yarn for a great price :)
Heather
Super easy, thank you!
Lovely, I will be trying this soon!
Could I modify this to make a neck warmer?
hi Eileen, Yes you could just make it much shorter and end it there. Make it wider, if needed, by adding extra chains to the beginning chain. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks, Heather!
hi! it's a very nice and beautiful pattern. thank you for sharing. Could you please tell me what to do at the end?
The last row could be a row of all Half Double Crochets to match the beginning row. You would do 1 HDC in each stitch and chain space. You don't have to but you can if you'd like to.
Heather
thank you so much!
I would like to make this as an infinity scarf. How many do you recommend I chain before connecting? Then I'll start the rows in a round. Maybe 10 or 12 times. ?? Thoughts??
Thank you!!
Ginger Dibernardo Hi, I've never done an infinity scarf so I don't know how that would go. So sorry!
If the chains need to be a multiple of 6, why did you start with 22?
You get the number of chains by adding or subtracting in multiples of 6 from 22.. So start with 22 then add/subtract 6,12,18,24,30,36 etc. Let me know if you need more help. Thanks Heather
Thank you for this. Just finished mine. =)
+Carrie White That's great! Thanks for the message!
Hi Thank you for talking slowly, also I was wondering the best way to wash this scarf?
in the third row, last stich why did you grab only one stich?
iolh17 Are you talking about the turning chain? 1 Half Triple Crochet is done in the tch. Is that what you meant?
Heather
Heather Gibbs In the third row, after the two last stiches, while doing the last one why did you grab only one loop and not two(front and back)? It seems like you're grabbing the front loop
iolh17 Hi, It's because it's just a chain not a stitch. That's why it looks like that why. It probably looks like i'm going through the back loop but it's just a chain.
Thanks for the message
Heather
Heather Gibbs Thank you very much!!!
iolh17 i just got it .i've done a chain 22 + a multiple of 6..28..at first i thought the chain should be a multiple of 6..thank you!!!

You can do a HTC in EACH stitch ignoring the chain spaces. So each HTC from the previous row gets an HTC for your final row. Hope it helps. heather
Heather Gibbs
I finished it actually. I wish you could see it!
Heather Gibbs
Thank you so much!!
Lovely pattern! Could this be done with double crochets instead of HTC, if I didn't want the stitches so tall?
Yes, on my website under this videos pattern is another pattern written with Double Crochets. Ive been asked before so I wanted to redo it. It's at crochetpatterns09.blogspot.com/2009/08/crochet-lace-shell-scarf.html
Let me know if you have any other questions. Heather
Heather Gibbs wonderful, thank you so much!
I'm making this scarf for my mom....how do I end it, that is make the last row? Do you just make a HTC in each stick to the end??
+LinYouToo I found the pattern on your blog....I'm all set. I've made about 1 ft so far and it's really pretty!
+LinYouToo Yes you can do 1 HTC in each stitch (ignore the chain spaces). THanks! Heather
Beautiful. Thank you
+Mary Ledonne Thank YOU!
Do you have written instructions for this
+Josephine W Martinez Yes, the link to the pattern is the first line in the description under the video. All my videos have it set up that way. Thanks. Let me know if you have any other questions :) Heather
+Josephine W Martinez Sorry the link is crochetpatterns09.blogspot.com/2014/01/video-easy-crochet-lacy-shell-scarf.html
Muy bonita gracias.
very nice
I appreciate that you go slow.
Ooo cool
