    Glad you finally got a bottle! I've had some of the 2019 and enjoyed it and do wish it was more available, but I'm just as happy with some of my "special" bottles I was able to get. Cheers!

    Good review. Yeah, the only way I could try it would be an expensive taste at a bourbon bar...there is a Shell has station up the street from me near Kings Island that only sells samples to try on premises. Maybe they at least have McKenna 10 yr.
    2 yrs since I had my first drink of Baker's 7 that started this ball rolling and have never ran across McKenna.

    Sounds incredible! And really great breakdown of the total experience. Would you say this is like a "Barrel Proof" version of the Sam Houston 15? Cause I'm never going to see one out in Cali, at least not under $2K! For this kind of complexity and evolution in a glass I'm going to have to drink Scotch! Even @ $300 it's cheaper and available LOL!!!

    Hey Jason, the question which everybody wants to know, what's the most you would pay? This is the problem with bourbon now that prices are through the roof. Better than Old Carter batch 9 bourbon or American 6 at 1/3rd the price on secondary. Sorry to put you on the spot but most will never see any of these at MSRP. Love the review!

    • @TheMashandDrum
      @TheMashandDrum  2 года назад +1

      Yeah this is better than old Carter 9. Maybe not batch 5. Just a different flavor profile from the American series. Remember the American is light whiskey so it's got a very bright sweetness to it. The KoK is alot more rich in flavor ..oak, cherry, dark brown sugars. I will be blinding it so we will see.

    Brown-Forman isn't doing themselves any favors by keeping this bottle in KY. Their distribution is as big as anyone's so localization is not an accident. Old Carter has half the number of bottles in their releases and despite its rarity there are dozens of states that get it into the hands of the everyday enthusiast. KoK just ends up on $1500 secondary.

    • @TheMashandDrum
      @TheMashandDrum  2 года назад +2

      I agree. But at 14 years in a heat cycled warehouse and being single barrels there isnt going to be that much liquid left in those barrels. Old Carter aside from their single barrels has the luxury of blending and using multiple barrels to make a higher quantity of whiskey. Especially given most of there stuff is 6-9 years old bourbon wise.

    Wasn't the KoK release of a year or two ago....not good? I guess I'd have to go back and check...maybe it was It's Bourbon Night, but I thought people didn't like it.
    Edit... I guess it's was the 2018 release, It's Bourbon Night didn't seem to fond of it. Though I guess they are single barrels so that's always going to change from year to year and even different barrels of the same year.

    • @TheMashandDrum
      @TheMashandDrum  2 года назад

      Louisville is even harder to get stuff than most states. You can get to distilleries early to find stuff or if you focus on store picks I would go to Westport Whiskey and Wine for a great selection. Plus they have a tasting bar in the back.

    • @TheKvl
      @TheKvl 2 года назад

      My family and I did the bourbon trail this summer and it was amazing, definitely a bucket list trip. The only bummer was that outside of the distillery tastings and great bourbon bars the package stores were not much better than where I’m from in Georgia. The tour guide at old forester told us that even at the distillery they function under the same rules as a package store and under state law can’t basically hoard the special bottles, they have to distribute. If you are doing a tour call Tommorow.

    Love your channel. I am curious if there is a poor man’s version of King of Kentucky. I did some math and I think this might work. 18:4:3 (Early Times BiB:Jack Daniels Single barrel Barrel Proof:1910). The Early Times is a base for the proof and mash, the Jack and 1910 add the complexity and the chocolate. If calculated into 750ml = 540ml + 120ml + 90ml...it might be close to King of Kentucky. All 3 bourbons are/were a part of Brown Forman. Hope this works. Keep up the great content.
