    2022 King of Kentucky 15 Year (125.5 proof, $250-2000+) vs Lucky Seven 15 Year Proprietor (126.8 proof, $150-300)
    King of Kentucky has long been Josh's "grail" bourbon. We wanted to put it up against something somewhat comparable that's both cheaper and easier to find to see if King of Kentucky stood out as truly special. Is King of Kentucky really the king of bourbon, or are there contenders that can rival it when you remove all the bias of labels and hype by way of a double blind tasting? We find out.

      We've heard that about the 2019s but can't confirm ourselves as we've never tried one. The 2021 we got to try was lights out good though. This 2022 hasn't impressed as much. Always interesting how single barrels vary and products themselves can differ over time. Cheers and thanks for watching man!

    With the 15-year Proprietor not really available, how do you feel about the Lucky 7 bottles that ARE available (and less expensive)?

    • @jasonladd1041
      @jasonladd1041 Год назад

      I echo this. I have been able to see a few L7 14 yr on “that” market but no 15 yr in sight. Is it as much a unicorn as KOK? And if so, how do the 14 yr L7s compare?

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  11 месяцев назад +1

      This is a GREAT question! The 14 and 15 years are certainly the cream of the Lucky Seven crop, and the other bottles they have on market don't measure up to the high bar set by the aged Proprietor releases, but they're also more findable and affordable. That said, we do wish they were 20% cheaper.
      @jasonladd1041 they're certainly not unicorn status like King is, but the right single barrel of any of the 14-15 years can go toe to toe with the right single barrel of KOK. The trouble with all of these is that they're single barrels so it's difficult to know if you're going to get a ringer or a dud. This particular bottle of KOK is very good but hasn't wowed us like some others that we've tried, while the two Lucky Sevens we have are either VERY good (14 year) or flat out exceptional (15 year).

  • @bjp0327
    @bjp0327 Год назад

    In hindsight its easy to overlook new brands releasing aged bourbon/whiskey at high prices. However, like Lucky 7 as the example, if you looked past this bottle at the time, it now could feel like you missed a real opportunity. I certainly wished I would have grabbed a bottle when I could because the cost of single digit aged bottles seems to land in the triple-digit numbers.

    Great blind. King of Kentucky is the best. It seems like the 2023 release is delayed or something though. Last year it was hitting shelves by now. There aren’t even any pictures released from the distiller of the 2023 let alone a press release or any media samples

    TAKE THAT KING OF KENTUCKY! Would 100% buy a bottle of KoK at $250 and be very happy with it. But Lucky Seven putting out some really special stuff. My only regret was not buying another bottle of the L7 15yr. It was just one of those mental things, like this bottle is expensive, can I really justify buying even more at these prices? The answer on that one was yes LOL.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  Год назад +1

      The answer is definitely yes when it comes to these Lucky Sevens! In the May livestream it was Bill Kavanaugh's bottle that we put up against King of Kentucky. In this blind, it was the bottle you so generously gifted to us. You better believe we're savoring every sip of it and each time we enjoy it it serves as a great reminder of meeting you guys and the great afternoon we had in IL. Thank you so much!

    A local store got 3 bottles of King of Kentucky in earlier this year and wanted a whopping $2,400 for each one. After the shock wore off, I had to laugh (hard!) and walk out. I don't know what makes me more upset: the fact that this was a 1,000% mark-up from MSRP, or that all three were gone 2 weeks later and one freakin' tater bought 2 of those 3 bottles at that ridiculous price (according to the store's Instagram page).
    I have heard so many good things about Lucky 7, but I can't find any locally or online, and no bars around me have it to try.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  11 месяцев назад

      Those are WILD prices! One of the bigger issues with paying up for a King of Kentucky is that they're single barrels, so you really don't know what you're going to get. As much as we'd love to have one, it's hard to pay a premium for an unknown.
