    nicely done, but I would have cleaned the reservoir, removing all the dirt and grime...it helps you to see other potential problems and it just looks ,more professional....

    May I ask the O ring kit was it at the parts store ? Or did you have it ordered ? Thanks

    This seems like a pretty easy installation I defiantly need to do this for my 01 Dakota 4.7 liter V8 every time I start my truck in the morning on a cold start it makes a loud winding noise and I don't have power steering for the first 3 minutes then it warms up a little and loosens up and works.

      Have you replaced yours yet? Mine does the same thing. I had my pump replaced 3ish years ago and it's acting up again. This time I'll be doing it and wanted to see if you had any luck. I don't see any leaks in my system.

    First off, thank you fro the video. When I bought my pump, it came with three small o-rings and one large one. Where do they all go?

    I just bought the whole assembly for my Dodge Durango for a hundred bucks, regular two hundred and something. My mechanic was going to charge me over five hundred to do this.

    We have done all this and when we got everything done we put in fluid and it was leaking where the 6 oclock bolt is but behind it, Can you tell me when you put the bottle back on is it suppose to have a plastic connector that goes on the bottle or just an oring? This is on a 2000 Dodge Durango 4.7 By the way this oring on the bottle by not having it can it be causing a leak? Do have one but was putting a bigger one than you showed so it was beyond where it should have been. Thanks

    This is a hell of a lot harder on the 5.9L. Dodge expects you to be Houdini to get the damn bolts off.

      i want to know how you know where its leaking i want to replace the low pressure and high pressure hose along with the power steering pump

    • @opsknight3608

      Mine was leaking at where it was connected to the steering gear (not a 4x4 so no oil cooler). The metal fittings had degraded. I could also see where it was dripping down. Once i replaced both the high and low lines, no more leak. I did not have the right tools/experience to actually replace the pump. I tried and there was a bolt or two I simply could not reach.

    Thanks for the video, my son drives a 2001 Dodge Dakota would it be the same as this video? His is leaking so I want to replace. I already replaced the high pressure line thinking that’s where the leak was.. Thanks for any help..

    can you tell me what size nuts are on the rack for the power steering hose .

  • @MrChristau
    @MrChristau 10 лет назад +1

    There is a small spacer that goes on that reservoir where the seal is installed at 5:11 on your video. with out that space your reservoir will leak. It was prob left in old pump body.

      how exactly can i purchase just that spacer i lost mine during the swap and cant seem to find it anywhere

    • @MrChristau
      @MrChristau 10 лет назад

      You may have to go to an auto parts junk yard and pull off another pump.

    Why are you adding 'power steering fluid' when these take ATF+4 ?? You're mixing different types of fluid. the Original ATF+4 thats already in the rack/pinion and now power steering fluid? FAIL...

    video is good up until your showing how to bleed the power steering system. You DO NOT want the pump turning before the system has been bled. Good way to lower lifespan of power steering pump

      I've been reading up on this, as I have an '03 Dakota with a Power Steering fluid leak. It makes a lot of noise when I turn the steering wheel and it sounds like the pump is dry/leaking. From what I've read, the lines can go bad, the pump can go bad, or the reservoir can go bad. I haven't seen anything about a bad rack so far. Once you find out exactly where it's leaking from , you can narrow it down, but the reservoir is made of a material that shrinks over time, which eventually makes it impossible to make a proper seal to the pump.
