Avatar Kyoshi was also shown bending glass in one of the books, a skill she picked up in order to remove shards from her skin, it was implied that she wasn't the first glass bender, but that it was a lost art being rediscovered
@@Astral_Incarnate well actually the thing is all bending are interrelated as seen in lava bending only avatars and people who are borned of eath and fire benders can do it which is like they have earth and fire mix chi which unlock duo potential also when it come to liqify the earth it most probably be of earth and air parents mand many deep bending are there that are so rare we might see in 3rd avatar series.
@@dirtyph0nics hmmm.... there hasn't been any clues as to say that you can only bend lava when you have a fore and earth citizen as parents.... toph bended metal because there are rocks in it, since lava is just melted rocks then it's not really about having mixed bloods. As water bender can turn their water to ice... They manipulate water from air, plants, water (obv), blood as long as it is water, they can manipulate, shape and control it. Earth bender can also do this, they can manipulate earth to be lava or just to liquify it, changing its composition in anyway... I dont understand it, but this is how my head cannon says it is
Iroh demonstrated the most powerful bending technique where he can force tears from one’s eyes through the musical performance known as Leaves from the Vine.
Most other benders usually know ONE specialized bending technique other than their standard element bending. But Toph learned TWO specialized bending techniques, Metalbending AND Sandbending on top of Earthbending. And one of which, Toph discovered herself. So, just imagine, how skilled and powerful Toph really is.
Katara too, she had healing, blood bending, and ice manipulation. Ice is common but it still takes a certain amount of skill to do, no water bender as far as I know has been able to ice bend right off the bat
@@Astral_Incarnate don't forget the fact that katara is not disabled meaning that none of her senses are better than normal people, but I do believe toph is more revolutionary and her blindness is a part of why she is that great, I mean katara just learn old arts toph created one
Yeah, cool, cool-cool-cool but why he didn't use his earth power (is he even earth bender? I don't remember already). I see a lot of earth here you know 5:50 (again idr maybe this is iave rocks or other bs) Like you so brave so dramatic but just build a wall or pit idk :D
I honestly think waterbending has the most sub genre of bending. I.e. bloodbending, healing, ice bending, spirit bending, cloud bending, etc, etc. water has many forms. Even plant bending was a thing.
@@MrVisualHigh iirc one's bending capabilities depends on their environment ie. If a water bender is borned in an environment filled with plant they can bend plants but if they are born in an environment filled with ice they can bend ice I think a water bender who never seen an ice or ice bending probably don't know that such thing is possible.
I liked how Toph was completely unimpressed with Bolin, until she learns he can lavabend and all of the sudden she's like: yeah, now you an date my granddaughter.
@@PresbianTier She faced the Avatar after no one has seen him for a 100 years and in reaction to his airbending, an art she never faced before, she called him "Twinkle toes". Pretty sure that by age 115 or however old she was her bar for being impressed is so high you need to at least be capable to split the moon or something
Imagine if princess Yue was still alive and was actually skilled in waterbending, she would literally be the most powerful waterbender since she literally is apart of the moon itself.
They actually can! In the Kyoshi novels (Shadow of Kyoshi in particular), a master healer mentioned that she can lower the temperature of someone but if she goes too far the person's blood will freeze and their organs will explode, killing them 🥰
Honestly, I'm in love with how specialized bending techniques are accessible to fewer people in the ATLA universe and feel way harder and crankier. Take Metal/Blood bending for example. If you watch all the scenes with it, you may notice how it feels like benders are going thru much greater efforts to bend.
It shifted in Korra with the idea that some people are just innately skilled in a particular technique for no obvious reason, compared to other techniques that were simply harder to learn than the standard. Blood bending without the Full Moon and Blast bending are the former, while Lightning Casting and Metal bending are the latter. Similar to how some people are just innately good at playing instruments and gain above average proficiency rather quickly, while other people can study and practice their whole lives and just be competent.
I feel like a big thing here should be the amount of available education for everyone, I always imagined the in korrambending wasnt easier, but that more individuals that might not have gotten the oppertunity to learn bending during angsntime got proper education during korras time
@@PhailRaptor in my head canon, Industrialization age can mass produce specialized bending at lower proficiency. Take lightning generation for example, sure they can produce group of lightning worker who can generate lightning of 10 W/person/each 5 hour which is still painfull, but not deadly and they can never achive the powerfull potential such like Azula or Ozai lightning that can obliterated any non fire benders, breaking mountains (from what i've seen, lightning bender in LoK never seem to damage the environment to such degree like in the original Avatar). So instead of calling the bender in LoK "Lightning bender" i just think of them as "electricity guys", "living battery" Other things like metal or blood, i do think it just the matter of techniques
that was something I greatly appreciated. When Toph first invents metalbending she's clearly just forcing the metal to do what she wants-literally pushing, pulling, and tearing it apart. However by season 3 we see she is capable of some amount of metalbending without contact, like when they take control of the airship. Finally by the time of Korra metalbending becomes a form like any other and can be used as such. It feels like a really natural evolution.
Jahaira Covarrubias Ice bending is just considered a part of regular water bending, and he mentioned energy bending for fire The rest are valid though Also I’d just like to mention that I hate the fact that “fart bending” is a thing
Jonathon Covarrubias Orozco The difference is the difficulty the styles come with Literally every water bender is capable of at least basic ice bending; if you can bend water, you can bend ice, no exceptions Lava bending, however, has only been shown by a select few benders, most of whom were avatars. The difference between the two is the learning curve that comes with them, that’s the reason that lava bending is a “specialized technique” and ice bending is just bending
I kinda agree with Sergio because lava bending is a hard technique to learn and ice bending is easy but I still think it should still be considered a sub skill
@Jonathon Covarrubias Orozco icebending should be a separate sub-discipline of waterbending. The basic waterbending is bending liquid water, not solid/frozen water. Icebending comes easy to most waterbenders because almost all of them are born and live in the north or south pole, which are surrounded by ice. But if someone was born in the Foggy Swamp Tribe, i don’t think icebending would come easy to them. Or if a waterbender was born and lived in the Earth Kingdom, liquid waterbending would be the basic bending to learn. The structure of water is different from ice. So there has to be somehow a separate teaching technique to bend ice. Lava is liquid earth. In a way, ice is the opposite of lava. Ice is solid water. If it takes a different approach to bend lava, then it’s the same with ice. They’re conceptually opposites. Therefore, icebending should be a sub-discipline of waterbending, just as much as lavabending is to earthbending.
Ironically, Katara's attempts to make it illegal probably directly resulted in it's adoption by Yakone. By all accounts, the art would have died with her since she and her immediate associates were the only ones to be aware of the technique. Making it illegal would have just drawn attention to it. Or was it explained that Hama had taught more people?
The main issue is, it would eventually resurface, though it is the main question as to whether or not it would end up with a person of bad intention is up to luck and fate. But with how it was discovered in the first place, it is far more likely that blood bending would go into the hands harboring horrid methods in acts of desperation. Would it have been better to teach it at an academy and regulate it for medical use? Yes, it would have... but bad experience with it already affected the judgment of its illegality. That and no one can think of everything in their entire lives, much less a few hours. Very much the same as seeing fire bending being seen as unable to heal. Or earth bending for that matter, seismic sense would be able to detect abnormalities as well.
Hama learned that on her own by realising that living beings consist in part of water. I dont think she was the only one who ever couldve come Up with this idea
maybe she invented it unaware of its existion i mean like it was before but she didnt hear about it so she thought she invented it or maybe hama and yakone are related i mean only knowing bloodbending exists doesnt make you a master so if hama invented it she should have taughrt yakone or have a pupil who taught yakone
I believe it will resurface on it's own at one point in the future. Someone will rediscover it by himself/herself and reinvient the technic. I guess that making it illigal while only one person knew this technic even exists is to prevent panics in the future. Imagin someone rediscovers bloodbending without the laws related to it, the technic and knowladge died with the last person aware of it's existance. Someone starts controlling people, how the surroundings react? What do they do? How do you sentence this guy and on what crimes? The bloodbender can lie on how he's doing it and most chances the judge and law inforcements will believe it as there are no recordings of controlling person's body. Banning the practice of bloodbending prevents confusion and rediscovering of it in the future. Better write it all down while someone knows how it's done, what it takes to achieve it, knowing side effects for both the user and the victim and what to do in case it ever happens again. Most importently, having a potential to discover new good uses for the practice, like in the medical field.
True, it would have come back eventually anyway. Still, announcing it's illegality would have definitely raised its general awareness in the population, meaning it's resurgence would be faster.
you forgot healing when it comes to fire and also forgot that airbenders can bend sound creating wawes of it and they can also bend clouds as well as waterbenders
Now that I think about it, it probably is less so that only the royal family was strong enough to lightning bend, and more so that they simply kept the technique secret so it couldn't be used against them.
@@rizizum I get your point but it deflated uncle irohs teachings about respecting nature and being at peace with yourself to guide the flow , Everyone you channel it could be your last : Now 50 people on first shift shoot it 8-12’hours a day NP it’s like seeing plastic Buddhist totems on a hipsters desk , cool to see it but do you understand the weight of those things lol
A bending type I’ve always wondered why they haven’t figured out, would be boil bending, like if water benders can create ice and clouds why can’t they boil you alive like a lobster?
good idea but for that they would have to study the way fire benders use their bend, and let's face it during the war it wouldn't happen, by the way when they use ice they use their breath to cool the water which for me is already a fire bending remnant
Yeah, the potential is there, it just requires study of firebending heat generation forms like Iroh studied water bending redirection techniques to create lightning redirection. The bending forms are actually really malleable and have immense potential just needing intense study and knowledge of basic forms from all elements. It's what makes the Avatar so OP, they don't even have to try really, especially in the Avatar state. The drawback to that with it being so easy for the Avatar is that it doesn't push them to discover what more their bending could be since their's no real struggle to learn.
I mean, technically water benders can just instantly freeze all the blood in your body, instant kill. And Air benders can force all the air out of your lungs or create a vaccumm with no air around you, also an instant kill
It theoretically should be way easier to do than lava bending too because the boiling point of water is obviously a lot lower than the melting point of most rocks
9:12 Zuko also notes that "Combustion Man" is not really his name. No one actually knows his name cause he never told anyone his name. In fact, he doesn't speak or say anything at all.
Pretty sure the spirit bending worked on the spirit vines. Those vines came back, because the normal villagers emitted negative energy by asking Korra their press-related questions. This is hinted by Iroh as well, who talks about how ones energy affects spirits and can change their behavior. If it wasnt for that, the vines wouldve stayed calm, but Korra realised as the city was so full of the humans negative energy, bending the spirit vines would always be a temporary fix only.
a couple of bending techniques not mentioned in the video Sand bending (used by natives of the Si Wong Desert, has a few interesting similarities style-wise to air/water bending and is used to propel themselves across the desert on wooden sailers) Plant bending (used by Huu to bend the water inside of seaweed in order to ensnare people, or even form the seaweed into a controllable humanoid mass around himself.) Ice bending (while being relatively commonplace in water bending, I still think it was deserving of a mention here since Katara used it in a few unique ways, such as slicing an ice pillar to launch discs of it at Pakku. Tonraq uses a couple of ice bending techniques that are very reminiscent of earth bending as well, such as riding a wave of ice pillars rising from the ground)
My favorite part of Korra was how creatively they used used metalbending. Nothing got me more hype than seeing Earthbenders whip out their metal cables like ghost rider and just annihilate everyone.
She can see them when they move she is like a bat with they sonic sence they screech and the waves travel back to them and map out they surroundings. Even though they are blind they aren't blind they can see very well it's just not with what we call vision. The way they sound works is through vibrations and sounds that map out they surroundings. Thing with toph is she does nto have to screech she feels the vibrations through her feet and body. So if anything moves in her souroundings aslong as it touches something that is in contact with the ground or anything rooted to the ground even walls she can sense it through the vibration.
She used against the person who she thought killed her mother and then never used it again (I know this because I’ve watched this episode 3 times and I remember her doing it all of those times)
Okay, but Pl’i had the most brutal death I remember seeing on Avatar. Usually the ‘end’ is left vague so you just assume they died. But not Paulee. Lady literally got her bell rung.
@@billydasquid1201 More terrifying tho. Potato salad head was instant, likely she didnt know what happened. The earth queen had the air sucked from her lungs while she was completely aware and totally helpless to do anything about it.
I'm still impressed by katara learning the technique in a minute. The first bender to deflect a monster power of blood bending. She is truly a powerful warrior.
A lot of these go: "This is a technique used by very few, due to its complexity and requirements. Here's these Legend of Korra main characters who instantaneously learned it."
In many cases the technique was suppressed or only just recently discovered in AtLA. It makes sense a less fascist fire nation would stop restricting lightning bending to the royal family.
True Doggo they do, every choice has multiple directions the path could go, some people choose to be considerate when they are young and it reinforces the idea of consideration in a positive or negative way.

I agree with all the other replies here. According to what avatar yangchen told aang , an avataar can never truely detach themselves from all earthly connections because their duty is to the people, for the people.
@Platinum Mew Actually Yang Chen said the Avatar can never disconnect from the world. Flight requires the bender to let go of their earthly desires not connections We actually saw Aang use unrestricted flight in the s2 finale when he tried to open his last chakra but was unable to do it again because of Azula
@@deadlysilence7474 I think the aerodynamics are different. Zaheer was truly WEIGHTLESS. But Aang was being raised by a column of air or a ball of air. It doesn't really give a "like the wind" vibe more than a propulsion via air vibe
Something interesting about Lava Bending is that it’s more common in Earth-benders with Fire Nation ancestors, while Metal Bending seems easier for those of almost purely earth-bender/kingdom ancestry.
Ever since i was young ive always thought the avatars weren't actually lava bending but was actually combining fire and earth bending due to them being the avatar.

Zuko used combustion bending when attempting lightning bending, although he used his hands instead of the third eye so it blew up in his face.. I think Combustion bending might be directing energy down to a singular point causing an explosion, with the mastered version being a third eye where you visualize channeling you energy to a specific point prior to detonation
Who else noticed that ozai lightning bending is not circular its deadly and precise he lets it go with both fingers while azula, iroh and mako realeas with only one the other hand is in the opposite direction.

Blood bending can be used as a type of surgery, bending lost blood back into a bleeding person or forcing open wounds to close. It can also be used to reattach removed fingers/limbs by water-bending the muscles and skin to reconnect which then can also be used with regular water-healing, to seal the flesh back together.
@@Pyrodorah But imagine the psychological damage you would do to that army. You would be violating one of their few true rights, the control over their own body. If you take that away, it can be really bad psychologically. The soldiers might just want to fight for a cause they believe in, not expecting actual torture to be a possibility. There is a reason the Geneva Conventions exist. The medical applications might be useful, but with that many people knowing it, it would easily spread into the wrong hands.
important to note that after appa was taken because toph couldn’t sand bend, she mastered it afterward and demonstrated her ability by making a sand sculpture of ba sing se
I always thought the reason the vines weren’t affected by Korra was there was simply nothing “wrong” with them for her to fix. They just existed in a state that was disruptive to how the city worked before, but they weren’t corrupted
@@524coconut Aang beat everybody because none of them were familiar with airbending due to reasons you should know. The increased agility and other techniques for airbending that he had mastered mad him a tricky opponent to go against. The same is seen in the case of Zaheer. He studied the Guru Latima(not sure if that's how it's spelt) which gave him knowledge of great airbending techniques that he used to easily overpower the guards of his specialized prison. Going to your point of Korra, spirit bending wasn't something all that familiar either, and she was only aware of it in the context of controling rogue spirits, so she didn't look to see if it would be applicable to the vines even though they weren't doing anything harmful.
I once heard about another, lesser known specialized form of earthbending that dealt with the body somehow. It was first introduced in the Platinum Games Legend of Korra video game from 2014. The user was the game's main villain, Hundun. I don't know much about it all, but apparently, it granted Hundun long life, or possibly, some form of immortality.
Yes, Kyoshi did it as well, she learned to stop cellular decay by earthbending his body. A less impressive example of this is how Bumi probably did it as well, at least with his spine

I hope not. Redirecting lightning used to be something really cool, and a good way to combat against lightning benders. (Zuko and Azula for example.) But now its a run of the mill kind of thing, and those who have only watched Korra just accept it as apart of lightningbending.
I just thought of a crazy idea for a fire bending technique. You know how fire benders can remove and transfer the temperature of, say lava? And even redirect lightning? What if a fire bender was able to remove ALL the warmth from the human body? Forcing the target into hypothermia, or maybe even freezing them, making people believe it was a new power from a crazy water bender.
I feel like it would take a while, and the person would have to not be moving. Like Sozin was directing the heat from stationary lava, I feel like a person has enough sense to move around during a fight.
I think a more realistic firebending ability would be manipulating the electrical signals in someone's brain. With enough proficiency you can stop someone's brain from functioning at all or send signals to the brain producing illusions.
@@stormshadowoffire that seems a bit too advanced for the current avatar timeline. They’d have to be completely aware of the brain’s electrical impulses and how to manipulate it properly. but they’d have to be balanced. they’re an expert at all the sub skills, even invented a new one, but they don’t care that much about heroism. they think the world can do just fine without them. so they keep breaking world records and going further beyond with bending, until one day the world is in a crisis. question is, do they keep trying to do cooler and cooler tricks, or do they get involved for once?

A bit late here, but there are other forms of bending. Plant bending where you bend the water in plants. This was demonstrated by Yu in the Foggy Swamp and Hama. Sand bending is actually a somewhat complicated form of Earth bending. It takes a lot of practice to be able to bend hundreds of thousands of grains of sand. It's a common technique amongst the desert tribes and Toph even did it in the finale, albeit only briefly. There was also Heat bending, although the only time in Avatar it was shown was in the episode "The Avatar and the Fire Lord", and it was used by Sozin to cool the lava. Lastly, there is Energy bending, where the user bends the energy within themselves and others. This was used by Aang when he took Ozai's bending away, and I believe Korra used it when she gave people their bending back.
@@Apaep12 I considered it subbending since energy isn't an element itself. It doesn't fit into any of the other bending elements and is much more of a wild card. Plus the only times where it's used is when the Avatar takes away someone's bending, or restores it. It just doesn't really fit to call it it's own thing, when it's not bending an element.
@@Apaep12 Uh, ok? Well, blood bending is one of the most dangerous types of betting. The ability to control people and animals is a powerful ability. Unfortunately, it is rare for anyone to be able to preform the technique, and it can only be done under the full moon, when a Water Bender's power is at it's peak. The only people who could do it without the need of the moon are Yakon, Amon, and Tarlaaq, and that was a hereditary trait. I would say the most powerful is Metal Bending.

The ice block caused his weight to be unbalanced, like when ice makes the wings of a plane heavy by weighing it down. Aside from Korra, Zaheer wasn't unbalanced by much else until the force of the typhoon dragged him down. Hope it helps! ^^
that was amazing. usually youtubers would ramble and clickbait but i found this video to be informative and i actually learned a few new things i didn’t notice like roku lava bending
Water Bending: Blood, Healing, Spirit Earth Bending: Metal, Lava, Seismic sense. Fire Bending: Lightning, Combustion Air Bending: Flight, Spiritual projection. Air bender is the hardest bender to achive these special and rarest techniques.
Personally I love the concept of blood-bending, it can stop an attacker and with enough practice a whole army. Imagine Ozai helpless against this power. Firepower means nothing if you stop from even moving.
Kyoshi was able to defeat Yun by lowering his body's temperature till freezing point, a technique she learnt from the Best Healer from the Northern Water Tribe. Somehow, they didn't know that they were actually BLOODBENDING! Bloodbending is very scary. It wasn't explored fully in the Avatar films. You could boil or freeze a person, extract the blood somehow 🤷🏾♂️ and even locate organisms or stuff in a person's body by feeling the vibrations in the individual's blood. A bloodbender should know if someone is lying too because they should be able to feel the blood around the heart or the heart's beat itself. Also the subskill of using SONAR (similar to Earthbending's Seismic skill) was never explored in any of the films, neither was echolocation and heating water. If one could freeze water, heating water should be child's play. 😁 And subskills like swampbending and sandbending were not included in this video. Sandbending is very powerful. Yun became almost unbeatable because he could mould earth or sand to a fluid-like state or even use it as explosives.
Ever since I was a kid I always had this idea of an air bender that always carries flowers with him and smells really nice and nobody considers him deadly but turns out those nice smelling flowers are in fact lavander petals which makes him a dangerous opponent against fire benders since if they use fire and burn the petals they are handing him a poisonous cloud he can freely manipulate, watching thumbnail reminded me of that
Here are all the sub bendings I found. Bendings Water Mud Plant Ice Fog Blood Healing Earth Mud Metal Lava Sand Crystal Bone Seismic Sense Fire Lightning Combustion Light Neuron Smoke Ray Temperature Control Air Sand Mist Fog Smoke Gas Sound Breath Flying
My thoughts on potential sub bendings Light bending (electromagnetic wave bending)- Can manipulate brightness of surroundings. A very very advance form of fire bending. Anyone cant get it just by natural talent alone. Talent plus rigorous studying and understanding of electromagnetic waves are the two factors for anyone to learn light bending. The most advance form would be able to create illusions. But this is super rare only achieved by the most exceptional. Sound bending- An advance form of air bending. One can manipulate air to produce sounds. But only the talented ones can be able to mimic other sounds, even human ones. Heat bending- can control temperature of the environment or an object. A subset of maybe achieved only by the avatar. Controlling the vibration of molecules of any thing
Video idea : Avatar Animal Companion Their Importance to Avatar Journey Because I think that maybe every avatar had one (Sorry for my english.still learning)
I have a theory that like how Iroh applied water bending aspects to fire bending that combustion bending is the application of air bending techniques to fire bending
Avatar will always go down as one of the most brutal western animes ever! They just straight up merked people with no remorse and never shied away from showing skeletons.
Zaheer: To fly one must become empty and enter the void. Weightlessness can only be achieved with great spiritual enlightenment. Korra: FIRE COMES OUT OF MY FEET
Firebenders use the heat around them, like willing the air to combust while using their own chi as a fuel source. Lava is the purest form of earth, so a small group of Earthbenders could wield it too.
Both water benders and earth benders can manipulate mud, since it is made of both mediums. Water benders and air benders can manipulate cloud, since it is made of both mediums. Ergo, lava is both a fire and an earth element, making it bendable by both groups. Although in the case of lava, it's being bent in different methods; an earth bender would be manipulating the lava itself, being liquid rock, but the fire bender would manipulate the heat/combustive energy contained within it. On that note, a sufficiently powerful fire bender should be able to create a *_nuclear reaction, by fire bending atoms into splitting, creating entire stars and atomic bombs._*
Something I want to point out is that I think the creators of Avatar briefly mention that they considered using the Chinese five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water). We never see anything like wood, unless you count plant bending, but I really like that of the four conventional elements we eventually see all of them featured in the show.
Yeah the fact wood has never been manipulated is kind of unusual to me. I think this may have been a purposeful choice to stay away from any comparison to Naruto given how wood jutsu is literally the most powerful form of kekei genkai. I do think that wood bending is a perfect spiritual art form of earth bending where it csn only be done by manipulating the resonant spirit inside of inanimate objects and what's grown naturally by mother earth. In the shkwz earth bending is never shown to really have any spiritual side as a foil to air bending but I don't think that's fair to the art as well. Hopefully we see this with the next avatar show where an earth bending avatar learns this
Me: nahh, water is the safest element *sees too many water based disasters* Me:... At Atavar? *sees the deadlieas sub element of water* Me:... Yeah I give up
@@thedude8457 it just depends, the real deadly element is... Light, now i know yall think it's bs, but hear me out, light is kina like fire, but only more stable, but it can cause more harm than the other elements
Some cool sub-bendings could be: Magnet bending for fire benders since they can already control charges or earth benders that use earth’s magnetic field Mind control/induced seizures for fire benders by controlling our electrical neural pathways Gravity bending for earth benders by creating an extremely dense area of rock Nuclear bending by earth benders that can earth bend radioactive elements or even create atomic fusion
I have a theory that since Fire benders can bend lightning (well some can) and that lightning is made mostly of electrons...which might mean fire benders mint be able to control electrons themselves (which to an extent can even control atoms) thus making Atom-Bending
And thus allowing them to bend all materials. We could also think about them refining electricity into an even more refined form of energy and think about kinetic bending, which is another way they could bend everything
Firebenders could control electrical impulses in the brain to influence and even control mind. And they could suck energy from the power grid to fuel their bending. Cool stuff.
The lightning in LoK still bothers me. In TLA lightning was treated as exceedingly dangerous and essentially an instant kill effect, while in LoK its used as menial labor or as just a pretty decent attack with no real lasting threat.
@@anarchomando7707 Still doesn't change the fact that that's not what it was in the original. It's an interesting world-building idea to have the benders use their abilities to facilitate more modern technology but the way they didn't doesn't fit in the avatar universe from the first show

I honestly think waterbending has the most sub genre of bending. I.e. bloodbending, healing, ice bending, spirit bending, cloud bending, etc, etc. water has many forms. Even plant bending was a thing.
When the world is 70% water and literally almost everything needs water to function that kind of stuff happends to appear.
Does ice bending really count? It kinda just feels like something water benders can do. Katara was doing it accidentally in the first few episodes.
@@MrVisualHigh iirc one's bending capabilities depends on their environment
ie. If a water bender is borned in an environment filled with plant they can bend plants but if they are born in an environment filled with ice they can bend ice

Not blood but you can freez someone
So instead of calling the bender in LoK "Lightning bender" i just think of them as "electricity guys", "living battery"
Other things like metal or blood, i do think it just the matter of techniques
that was something I greatly appreciated.

Jahaira Covarrubias
Ice bending is just considered a part of regular water bending, and he mentioned energy bending for fire
The rest are valid though
Also I’d just like to mention that I hate the fact that “fart bending” is a thing
Jonathon Covarrubias Orozco
The difference is the difficulty the styles come with
Literally every water bender is capable of at least basic ice bending; if you can bend water, you can bend ice, no exceptions
Lava bending, however, has only been shown by a select few benders, most of whom were avatars.
The difference between the two is the learning curve that comes with them, that’s the reason that lava bending is a “specialized technique” and ice bending is just bending
I kinda agree with Sergio because lava bending is a hard technique to learn and ice bending is easy but I still think it should still be considered a sub skill
Jahaira Covarrubias
Yeah probably, but considering how easy ice bending is, it wouldn’t be included in this video either way
@Jonathon Covarrubias Orozco icebending should be a separate sub-discipline of waterbending.
Still, announcing it's illegality would have definitely raised its general awareness in the population, meaning it's resurgence would be faster.

good idea but for that they would have to study the way fire benders use their bend, and let's face it during the war it wouldn't happen, by the way when they use ice they use their breath to cool the water which for me is already a fire bending remnant

Pretty sure the spirit bending worked on the spirit vines. Those vines came back, because the normal villagers emitted negative energy by asking Korra their press-related questions. This is hinted by Iroh as well, who talks about how ones energy affects spirits and can change their behavior. If it wasnt for that, the vines wouldve stayed calm, but Korra realised as the city was so full of the humans negative energy, bending the spirit vines would always be a temporary fix only.

a couple of bending techniques not mentioned in the video
Sand bending (used by natives of the Si Wong Desert, has a few interesting similarities style-wise to air/water bending and is used to propel themselves across the desert on wooden sailers)
Plant bending (used by Huu to bend the water inside of seaweed in order to ensnare people, or even form the seaweed into a controllable humanoid mass around himself.)
Ice bending (while being relatively commonplace in water bending, I still think it was deserving of a mention here since Katara used it in a few unique ways, such as slicing an ice pillar to launch discs of it at Pakku. Tonraq uses a couple of ice bending techniques that are very reminiscent of earth bending as well, such as riding a wave of ice pillars rising from the ground)

The human body is carbon based. That technique seems it would involve placing minerals in the right organs and bloodstream to enhance longevity. I hope that if avatar studios makes another avatar series, the "a handful of people can do this" type of techniques become more common.
And become something creatively used, like with modern metalbenders
I hope not. Redirecting lightning used to be something really cool, and a good way to combat against lightning benders.

@@CrownofMischief you may be right. Maybe weaken it to to slowly lower the warmth of a persons core temperature once there within close range?
@@stormshadowoffire that seems a bit too advanced for the current avatar timeline. They’d have to be completely aware of the brain’s electrical impulses and how to manipulate it properly. We can’t even do that properly in this time

This video is about subbendings energy bending isnt a subbending it is its own thing but everything else i agree with
@@Apaep12 I considered it subbending since energy isn't an element itself. It doesn't fit into any of the other bending elements and is much more of a wild card. Well, blood bending is one of the most dangerous types of betting. The ability to control people and animals is a powerful ability. Personally I love the concept of blood-bending, it can stop an attacker and with enough practice a whole army. Imagine Ozai helpless against this power. Firepower means nothing if you stop from even moving.
Firebenders should be able to bend the electrical signals in people's brains if bloodbending can exist as well
Kyoshi was able to defeat Yun by lowering his body's temperature till freezing point, a technique she learnt from the Best Healer from the Northern Water Tribe.
And subskills like swampbending and sandbending were not included in this video.
Sandbending is very powerful. Yun became almost unbeatable because he could mould earth or sand to a fluid-like state or even use it as explosives.
I really love the details of each bending style and how each can be adapted to affect one another
Ever since I was a kid I always had this idea of an air bender that always carries flowers with him and smells really nice and nobody considers him deadly but turns out those nice smelling flowers are in fact lavander petals which makes him a dangerous opponent against fire benders since if they use fire and burn the petals they are handing him a poisonous cloud he can freely manipulate, watching thumbnail reminded me of that

My thoughts on potential sub bendings
Light bending (electromagnetic wave bending)-
Can manipulate brightness of surroundings.

Hopefully we see this with the next avatar show where an earth bending avatar learns this
Imagine removing a person's body heat, similar in a way to how Firelord Sozin removed heat from lava.

Some cool sub-bendings could be:
Magnet bending for fire benders since they can already control charges or earth benders that use earth’s magnetic field
Mind control/induced seizures for fire benders by controlling our electrical neural pathways
Gravity bending for earth benders by creating an extremely dense area of rock
Nuclear bending by earth benders that can earth bend radioactive elements or even create atomic fusion
