Kyoshi was able to defeat Yun by lowering his body's temperature till freezing point, a technique she learnt from the Best Healer from the Northern Water Tribe. Somehow, they didn't know that they were actually BLOODBENDING! Bloodbending is very scary. It wasn't explored fully in the Avatar films. You could boil or freeze a person, extract the blood somehow 🤷🏾♂️ and even locate organisms or stuff in a person's body by feeling the vibrations in the individual's blood. A bloodbender should know if someone is lying too because they should be able to feel the blood around the heart or the heart's beat itself. Also the subskill of using SONAR (similar to Earthbending's Seismic skill) was never explored in any of the films, neither was echolocation and heating water. If one could freeze water, heating water should be child's play. 😁 And subskills like swampbending and sandbending were not included in this video. Sandbending is very powerful. Yun became almost unbeatable because he could mould earth or sand to a fluid-like state or even use it as explosives.
I hope not. Redirecting lightning used to be something really cool, and a good way to combat against lightning benders. (Zuko and Azula for example.) But now its a run of the mill kind of thing, and those who have only watched Korra just accept it as apart of lightningbending.
but they’d have to be balanced. they’re an expert at all the sub skills, even invented a new one, but they don’t care that much about heroism. they think the world can do just fine without them. so they keep breaking world records and going further beyond with bending, until one day the world is in a crisis. question is, do they keep trying to do cooler and cooler tricks, or do they get involved for once?

@@PaPaFiggy69 air benders and water benders are the most dangerous imo u can literally take the air out of someone or control the water inside of them air and water is everywhere too
Depends on the strength of the bender. I feel like toph is able to 1v1 literally anyone if she has rocks near her, as she said in the swamp, she is far more seeing than most people that can actually see, and she has an unmatched strength (besides avatars but obviously that does not count).
Something I want to point out is that I think the creators of Avatar briefly mention that they considered using the Chinese five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water). We never see anything like wood, unless you count plant bending, but I really like that of the four conventional elements we eventually see all of them featured in the show.
Yeah the fact wood has never been manipulated is kind of unusual to me. I think this may have been a purposeful choice to stay away from any comparison to Naruto given how wood jutsu is literally the most powerful form of kekei genkai. I do think that wood bending is a perfect spiritual art form of earth bending where it csn only be done by manipulating the resonant spirit inside of inanimate objects and what's grown naturally by mother earth. In the shkwz earth bending is never shown to really have any spiritual side as a foil to air bending but I don't think that's fair to the art as well. Hopefully we see this with the next avatar show where an earth bending avatar learns this
Firebenders use the heat around them, like willing the air to combust while using their own chi as a fuel source. Lava is the purest form of earth, so a small group of Earthbenders could wield it too.
Both water benders and earth benders can manipulate mud, since it is made of both mediums. Water benders and air benders can manipulate cloud, since it is made of both mediums. Ergo, lava is both a fire and an earth element, making it bendable by both groups. Although in the case of lava, it's being bent in different methods; an earth bender would be manipulating the lava itself, being liquid rock, but the fire bender would manipulate the heat/combustive energy contained within it. On that note, a sufficiently powerful fire bender should be able to create a *_nuclear reaction, by fire bending atoms into splitting, creating entire stars and atomic bombs._*
The lightning in LoK still bothers me. In TLA lightning was treated as exceedingly dangerous and essentially an instant kill effect, while in LoK its used as menial labor or as just a pretty decent attack with no real lasting threat.
@@anarchomando7707 Still doesn't change the fact that that's not what it was in the original. It's an interesting world-building idea to have the benders use their abilities to facilitate more modern technology but the way they didn't doesn't fit in the avatar universe from the first show
@@shanedancer3895 In my opinion, the lightnings we saw in LoK were really weak in comparison to the ones used by Azula or Ozai, you could see that Azula had to charge it, for some seconds to be able to release it, and she was a genius, Mako in the other hand, seems to be able to throw them easily, in part because the Firebending itself evolved in those years, but his ligthnings weren't as strong as the ones that Ozai or Azula used, we never saw the use of a lightning in LoK, with the pure purpose of killing, while in ATLA we did.
Water Bending: Blood, Healing, Spirit Earth Bending: Metal, Lava, Seismic sense. Fire Bending: Lightning, Combustion Air Bending: Flight, Spiritual projection. Air bender is the hardest bender to achive these special and rarest techniques.
I was gonna say Combustion Bending is too op when the bender can 'redirect' and curve the energy. But then went 'Nah' when i found out it comes with huge consequences by the smallest mishap.
Here are all the sub bendings I found. Bendings Water Mud Plant Ice Fog Blood Healing Earth Mud Metal Lava Sand Crystal Bone Seismic Sense Fire Lightning Combustion Light Neuron Smoke Ray Temperature Control Air Sand Mist Fog Smoke Gas Sound Breath Flying
I actually agree about this. Spiritual projection should be done by any bender who is exceptionally spiritual enough to do so. But i guess the ability appears to be exclusive to airbenders because airbending itself is very rooted to spirituality. Airbenders practice spirituality as a daily lifestyle, as an everyday part of their culture. So over the centuries, millennia, i guess they’ve mastered spirituality to a tee more than the other benders. Hence the spiritual projection abilities.
The reason it's considered a subskill of airbending because Jinora says that it's a high-level airbending with spiritual stuffs thrown in. But I do agree with what you said.
Mud, Sand, Plant and Energy long ago all these bendings were shown on Avatar: the last airbender, but when the writers needed this information the most. it was forgotten.
Has anyone noticed that some of the advanced bending techniques feel like mixed bending? I mean Bolin is half earth nation half fire and he can lava bend, a mix of fire and earth. In my head canon, I've always thought that sand bending is a mix of earth and air, and that combustion bending is a mix of fire and air.
funny you say that when actually they use the water bending style to use lava bend, they pull and push like water bending while fire bending has more to do with chi and breath control than pulling and pushing
While it's clear that mastering the special techniques usually involves a mindset combining more than 1 element, it's demonstrated that Lava bending is specifically rooted in Earth bending. It's merely a coincidence that the first recorded use of it is an Avatar from the Fire Nation.
Airbenders can develop a version of the combustion firebending using vacuum cavitation. Waterbenders could then copy cavitation bubbles underwater. Since earthbenders have lava shurikens everybody now has a grenade technique. You ever notice how bending seems to be a precursor to ninjutsu from naruto? I wonder if this is like, naruto's prehistory.
That’s a very interesting idea. I have never even looked at bending like that to the point that it could be a prehistory of Naruto’s elemental ninjutsu.
Because appa was a different bison than the ones In legend of Korra, and the lemurs are a different species. The one in Alta was a winged lemur and the ones in lok are ring tailed flying lemurs
I believe that's because they were discovered by some fire benders who took them and hid then from the fire nation and because being an different environment they probably evolved differently. Or it could just be that the animators wanted to do something different
Before the Legend of Korra, I always assumed that Lavabending could only be performed by the Avatar. As to bend lava, you would need both Heat (Firebending) and Rock (Earthbending), like in real life
I feel like it's pretty clear that if waterbending can block chi paths, it can also heal them, my guess as to why no bender has ever been able to achieve it is because, 1) blood bending is already rare enough 2) blocked chi paths are also a rarity, something that for the most part we've seen can be healed through other means, making it not a necessity for water benders and 3) sheer complexity, destroying is easier than repairing, but it would not surprise for someone like kathara, with sufficient practice to be able of figuring out how to fix them.
Since waterbenders can already bend blood and water inside living beings, what's stopping them from bending water inside neurons to influence someone's mind aka Jedi mind trick. This would be an insanely advanced form of waterbending as the waterbender would have to manipulate water with god-level precision at such small scale. And theoreticaly firebenders could also influence mind by manipulating the electrical signals between neurons. Both of these techniques would require extreme level of skill. Elemental bending has basically unlimited potential if you think about it.
True, even though I haven’t watch LOK yet, I don’t think anyone (before, during or after the time of Aang) would know of anything like cells. Even though Earthbenders like Kyoshi were able to prolong their life due to a sophisticated technique whereby they would be able to bend their cells and sometimes put themselves in a “cryogenic” state so that they wouldn’t age, I don’t think they actually knew they were composed of cells. I’m sure you may know this, but even though a neuron can be as long as 1 metre, they’re only about 0.1mm wide. I’m other words, they probably don’t know about brain cells and wouldn’t be able to bend it. If you think about it, benders only bend what they have knowledge of, even if they haven’t done it before; Toph bent the *Earth* in the metal. Iroh probably saw lightning in nature and somehow made a bridge between fire and lightning (how? I don’t know) etc. I hoped this helped!
Honestly, the first time Iroh redirected lightning it went completely over my head. Didn't even process that he just bent lightning at all, which up until then hadn't been shown.
Water bender is already overpower with unique specialized bending. But even more ridiculous that it can further unlock more powerful sub technique like sever someone's bending ability or destroying a human soul.
It’s crazy because a lot of these variations of bending are still rooted in the 4-5 basic elements of Avatar. With that being said, couldn’t the Avatar perform like crazy ass variations of bending? It’s been shown that an Avatar can use all the elements at once and if Naruto has taught me anything, the ability to use multiple elements at once can lead to the use of new elements. For example, Aang could combine water and fire bending and use steam bending or boil bending. Water and Earth could be combined for a possible plant bending or mud bending. Aang could probably manipulate things like clay since it’s composed of water, earth, and heat. There’s just a lot of potential
One little nitpick; absorption of lightning isn’t possible, if I recall correctly, or it’s at least not something you’d survive. You can only redirect it due to its innate lethality and destructive abilities. Only channeling it through your body and out will result in a bender’s survival. Almost like a given firebender that knows how to do it is functioning as a conduit, essentially. Correct me if I’m wrong, but yeah.
I always admired any power related to Blue colour ❤️ like Blue Power Ranger 😂& anything related to Water. So after Watching Avatar I'm in love with Water Benders & all their techniques 😭❤️
Water: I can explain- Fire: You get buffs every month, while we have to wait for 100 years! Air: 100 years? We have to wait 10,000! Earth: You guys are getting celestial buffs?
There are so many other specialities I feel so sure could exist but we just haven't seen in the shows. Like bone bending is surely possible for earth benders, and temperature sensing for fire bender, to just name a couple
there is one very rare bending only used by Sozen, he bends the volcanic fumes of a the volcano on rokus home island causing cool air to rush in and cool the lava
What I would really like to see in a future series is more specialized bending. For example; Waterbenders that can create holograms by precisely refracting light through water. And what about a blind firebender, that can sense his environment through heatsignatures, kind of like snakes do, but perhaps more precisely.
I think all bending has some fundamental technique that they all share. Like I bet Airbenders aren’t the only ones to fly without equipment. Like waterbenders could use the water in the air to make them fly, earthbenders can use the tons of sand that float in the sky. And fire benders can use thermal control to fly or if you want, fly by using lightning-bending to “walk” on the electro-magnetic current.
I think it would've been better if it was shown that Blood bending is an advance form Healing. Katara mastered blood bending without a Full-Moon but used the principles to further develop Healing-Bending to such an extent that she can regrow Limbs. In her late 20's, Katara should've been capable of regrowing Organs too. Katara taught this advance form of Healing Arts to many Water benders but Amon was eventually able to discover that the same principles can allow him to perform Blood-Bending. Thus Water-Tribes must have very selected individuals trained in advance Healing Arts as the same techniques could lead to Blood Bending. Thus regrowing Organs & Limbs must required many approvals from higher Ups of the State of Tribe. Toph in her lifetime should've learnt & discovered these bendings:- (1) Earth Bending (2) Mud Bending (3) Metal Bending (4) Sesmic Sense (5) Vegetation Bending (6) Gravity Bending (7) Sand Bending (8) Lava Bending One of the reason Toph was able to survive for so long should've been her ability to merge with Trees through Earth Bending to prolong her Life. Water-Benders should be able to do these bending as well:- (1) Mud Bending (2) Vegetation Bending
I just got a interesting subset of lighting/water/lava/combustion bending Called plasma bending based on a combination of the zen yet hyper focused movements of lightning mixed with the slow yet tranquil movements of water and the ferm but flowing movements needed for lave bending this is ment to be a very vary advanced version of normal Firebender techniques and instead of being directed from the head like with normal combustion bending it’s instead projected out the middle and ring fingers in a similar way to lighting bending Side note do to it being a fan made bending technique the only known record (stored in the archives of wan shi tong’s library) of this was the vary first avatar it’s so advanced yet contradictly unknown by all later avatars do to the scientific knowledge lost to time
With the correct knowledge a air bender can do many of these things and more any air bender can fly if you compress air just enough to create a push under you then just pressurized wind pushing against the right areas according to weight and just adjust the strength of the pressurized wind on certain points to control orientation and direction. And no I’m not referencing specifically the show, I’m referencing towards the lore of everything that if bending elements was real an air bender can bend much more than what some may think, for example metal bending including pure metals. What I mean is pressurized air. Use science and your imagination to figure it out also, condensed air to a certain point would create plasma of which would melt the metal unless you can make it small enough to use it to very quickly weld metal, btw yes I know it would take concentration and a lot of it.
The official avatar yt channel implying that korra couldve bloodbent if she had just tried was CRAZY. Korra couldve been the scariest avatar other than yangchen
What about in the legend of Korra in season 2 when she lost her memory and was rescued by the fire sages, the leader used some sort of firebending to check her spiritual connection with Ravva. Used it the same way a healer would from the water tribe. Was just curious what that type of bending would be classified as?
I think the departure from Water bending's ability to heal is that the Fire Sage could only use her Bending to diagnose the problem, not deal with it. It is a lot more restricted. Though, that does raise the question of whether a Fire bender could unblock someone's Chi. After Tai Li used it on the Earth benders at the Wall of Ba Sing Se, Katara could do very little to aid recovery. Perhaps a Fire bender with the necessary skill could have.
I'm genuinely curious if fire benders could manipulate their target's body temperature causing instant hyperthermia? It would be something that could be considered taboo like blood bending or forgotten art like bone bending.
You forgot sand bending: used my desert people to move there sleds. Mud bending/ swamp bending: used by swamp monster people Crystal bending: I think it was ang who made a crystal armer set once And ice bending: which was a variant of water bending that katara had to learn from the other water tribe but it's so commonly used I think it'd just assumed most water benders can do it
Combusting bending was a double edged sword, if anyone hit the third eye hard enough(to mess with the chi flow I guess) or consealing or deflecting the combustion or eye itself ends up having deadly consequences. It was extremely powerful and cool though.
The new earth avatar should explore combustionbending and sandbending, especially combustionbending without telekinesis and maybe conventionally using his hands like a normal bender.
Water benders can also plant bend. And Toph was able to bend the meteorite so, that means earth benders aren't limited to just bending the Earth. So, could a powerful enough earth bender, bend another planet or an asteroid that was entering Earth's atmosphere? Depending on if it's mostly made out of rock or ice of course. What other specialized bending should exist? Maybe air benders could create clouds or storms (water benders could also do this then).
Theoretically, that could be a power of any bender. Though something like this seems more applicable to earth bending, evidenced by how ang turns those giant boulders into those hyper dense pebbles for his fight with ozi.

And subskills like swampbending and sandbending were not included in this video.
Sandbending is very powerful. Yun became almost unbeatable because he could mould earth or sand to a fluid-like state or even use it as explosives.
I hope that if avatar studios makes another avatar series, the "a handful of people can do this" type of techniques become more common.
And become something creatively used, like with modern metalbenders
I hope not. Redirecting lightning used to be something really cool, and a good way to combat against lightning benders.
(Zuko and Azula for example.) But now its a run of the mill kind of thing, and those who have only watched Korra just accept it as apart of lightningbending.

It’s also supposed to require extreme levels of focus and control over your emotions so the fact that so many people were able to do it made no sense.
@@shanedancer3895 it's probably more likely a trade situation

So there is 1 person who can do spirit projection?
All avatars ever: Excuse me?
I'd say spiritual projection isn't a subskill of any bending techniques. I think everyone is capable of it. One just needs spiritual oneness.
Airbenders are the most spiritual ones in the bending world.

10:21 Actually, Xu Ping An was the first person who could produce lightning. This was when Kyoshi was about 17 years old
Mud, Sand, Plant and Energy long ago all these bendings were shown on Avatar: the last airbender, but when the writers needed this information the most. it was forgotten.
I like how blood bending basically just gives you the force against people
If an airbender would just grow a pair, they could just collapse people’s lungs or create air vacuums around their head and game over anyone.

question:
why does flying bison & flying lemur in legend of korra look different to appa & momo?
Because appa was a different bison than the ones In legend of Korra, and the lemurs are a different species. The one in Alta was a winged lemur and the ones in lok are ring tailed flying lemurs
I believe that's because they were discovered by some fire benders who took them and hid then from the fire nation and because being an different environment they probably evolved differently. Or it could just be that the animators wanted to do something different
Evolution...
Also Momo's the last of his kind
Christian Moses Ambita he wasn’t there was a hiden herd in the fire islands

“Only two people have ever been able to fly” every avatar when they enter the avatar state I’m gonna ignore that
What I would really like to see in a future series is more specialized bending.
For example; Waterbenders that can create holograms by precisely refracting light through water.
And what about a blind firebender, that can sense his environment through heatsignatures, kind of like snakes do, but perhaps more precisely.
Thats a lot
I think all bending has some fundamental technique that they all share. Like I bet Airbenders aren’t the only ones to fly without equipment. Like waterbenders could use the water in the air to make them fly, earthbenders can use the tons of sand that float in the sky. And fire benders can use thermal control to fly or if you want, fly by using lightning-bending to “walk” on the electro-magnetic current.
Water bending is the most versatile bending and no doubt the most powerful.
Fireloard Osai was also a combustion bender… same principles except he did it from his hand.
Toph in her lifetime should've learnt & discovered these bendings:-
(1) Earth Bending
(2) Mud Bending
(3) Metal Bending
(4) Sesmic Sense
(5) Vegetation Bending
(6) Gravity Bending
(7) Sand Bending
(8) Lava Bending
One of the reason Toph was able to survive for so long should've been her ability to merge with Trees through Earth Bending to prolong her Life.
Water-Benders should be able to do these bending as well:-
(1) Mud Bending
(2) Vegetation Bending
Chi bending, crystal bending, plant bending, sand bending , and glass bending
I just got a interesting subset of lighting/water/lava/combustion bending
Called plasma bending based on a combination of the zen yet hyper focused movements of lightning mixed with the slow yet tranquil movements of water and the ferm but flowing movements needed for lave bending this is ment to be a very vary advanced version of normal Firebender techniques and instead of being directed from the head like with normal combustion bending it’s instead projected out the middle and ring fingers in a similar way to lighting bending
Side note do to it being a fan made bending technique the only known record (stored in the archives of wan shi tong’s library) of this was the vary first avatar it’s so advanced yet contradictly unknown by all later avatars do to the scientific knowledge lost to time
2:03 why is katara's mouth perfectly synced
9:54 that that super smooth transition though.
When it comes to recon spiritual projection is so useful. I wonder if airbenders are going to utilize it more after Koras generation
Don't forget the FART BENDING by Meelo
Katara letting her feelings get in the way of using blood bending for healing purposes is why I think she's not the best healer
3:53 she is the second most important avatar character because if aang died ( he was in the avatar state) no more avatars would’ve came by.
I loved avatar, except when the "blood" bending came out. I was like, it's water bending still! 🤣😅
9:53 one of the best transitions
my mind always gets bloodbended on every maths test
The official avatar yt channel implying that korra couldve bloodbent if she had just tried was CRAZY. Korra couldve been the scariest avatar other than yangchen
A cool thing about blood bending is if they were skilled enough they could make weapons out of blood
You forgot
sand bending: used my desert people to move there sleds.
Mud bending/ swamp bending: used by swamp monster people
Crystal bending: I think it was ang who made a crystal armer set once
And ice bending: which was a variant of water bending that katara had to learn from the other water tribe but it's so commonly used I think it'd just assumed most water benders can do it
Yeah ice bending is just waterbending. But the other 2 were pretty good
Toph wasn't joking when she said she is the greatest earthbender in the world. 🔥
Combustion bending is the most underrated
Could a powerful Earth bender bend the moon?
Idk if this was mentioned, but Blue firebending was another form of bending. Even though it's a variation, I thought I'd point it out anyways.
i recon lava bending can only work if either your parents are fire and earth benders or you can use earth and fire bending like the avatar
Really good video, would be cool if some wind bender had like a "void" power where they could create black holes or something
Theoretically, that could be a power of any bender. Though something like this seems more applicable to earth bending, evidenced by how ang turns those giant boulders into those hyper dense pebbles for his fight with ozi.
if earthbender could use seismic sense, by same logic, airbender could utilize air as Radar
Icebending, swampbending, sandbending and mudbending missed but overall most important subbending listed! Keep it up!
Ice anyone can do it, swamp is just water in plants.
Sand yeah he forgot, as well as mud.
He forgot glass as well
