I think it’s interesting how Waterbendings are the only form of bending that learned from spirits and not animals. While Airbending is the most spiritual bending art but not learned from spirits.

According to the what Katara said in book 2, healing is done by redirecting the flow of the chi throughout the body towards the injured part, thus healing it.
@@piaj2742 may I add that water healing comes from the practice of Reiki which started in Japan in the 20s or 30s. Reiki masters usually move their hands which is meant to allow energy to flow.
Part Wargreymon it’s a bit diff. But in s2 of korra, a firebender was able to use her bending to diagnose korra, seeing internal damage. But she still had to lower Korra into the water for her to heal properly
1:19 What I took from both TLOK and ATLA is that the lion turtles used to give bending temporarily to people who lived on them. Once they stopped, the people who had the bending got to keep it and pass the "gene" down (whether it be active or not, like Katara and Katara’s parents) while those who didn’t get the bending are the current nonbenders (with those who didn’t have the "activated gene"). The new benders who got their power from the turtles then learned how to master from the 4 orignal benders (dragons, sky bisons, badgermoles and the moon). I feel like this is emphasised within the fact that Wan got his firebending from a lion turtle and THEN mastered it with the dragon dance with an actual dragon. The original benders and the lion turtles stories are not disconnected.
Waterbending is the second element that I love in the Avatar universe. I love how diverse and creative it is as an element, a source of literal push and pull on the environment, it’s powerful but not too overpowered, the characters who are waterbenders are literal Swiss Army knives in combat depending on the amount of water around them presently, and how a master could manipulate the unseen water around them to be used as a weapon.
I prefer fire because I did tons of things on the internet and it just says fire and also fire can make lightning so I have a advantage of defeating a water bender but they are all strong in there own ways u need a lot of experience to blood bend
Waterbending to me represents a pure spirit and love itself. An adaptable spirit that can't be contained or forced into a particular shape. In MBTI terms, I think of the NF temperament as being water like because they are soft and intuitive, not easily bound by traditions, labels or boundaries, much like water.
Here's a plothole from the original Avatar: The fire's nation guards bound the water benders only when they drank water, but they never did it when they wanted to pee. So Hama could have escaped by using pee bending. Just think about it.
Not really a plot hole. It's quite likely there was a system for that along with food too, but I really doubt any kids show would discuss such a topic.
Julian Lam People didn’t get their bending from the bending animals, they developed their fighting styles and techniques by watching them. That’s what they mean by them being the “first.”
I’m a split between air and waterbender (ironic seeing as the rest of my family sees themselves as either earth or fire, mostly fire) so this and the history of airbending is really informative. (P. S. Yes, I do refer to myself as the avatar on occasion.)
One of my favorite things about foggy swamp styles plant bending is flower shurikens. In the comic The Search, we see a water bender freeze a flower as it is thrown an it acts a shuriken
Some shows don't need to always be getting a new show. Just look at the disappointment that people got from korra, we should let it be before we get another ben10 or teen titans incident
I think there's another style since TLOK: common Republic City style I saw that the fighting style for waterbenders is that is more fast, straight to the point and aggressive, since there's no many water sources available (unless they manage the environment, like Tarrlok for its office), so they need to finish battles quickly or they'll lose their water source and remain defenseless
The various water bending styles remind me of the variations and evolutions in different styles of taichi (which is the direct inspiration for water bending). Also, considering that foggy swamp style is a bit rigid, am not surprised if Chen style taichi could be the basis for it
It’s worth noting that the rigidity of foggy swamp style and lack of the usual grace in waterbending is somewhat reminiscent of earth bending, which makes sense as they’re located in the earth kingdom.
Well in Sozin’s comet, katara blocked one of Azula’s lightning strikes with water so lightning isn’t really much of a weakness unless you are touching it like Ming Hua’s water arms.
she blocked it fast enough before azula managed to create a spark of it. you could see there wasn't any lightning. otherwise the water was so pure or they'd both get electrocuted.
I don’t understand how the techniques Hama taught Katara were considered Southern Waterbending style when all of them consisted of finding water in the most unlikely of places, when they would have been living in the southern tundra and therefore have no need to learn how to draw water from plants and trees when there are none.
Hama's style of drawing water from everything isn't so much a style unto itself as it is just her being more resourceful and experienced. Her actual bending style, that being the way she uses the water once she's gathered it, is probably rooted in the style of the Southern Water Tribe, although also probably refined into a unique variant due to many long years of isolation from the rest of the Water Tribe.
Huỳnh Hải I see, thanks! I think I understand now that Southern style is focused of progressiveness in both the ways of offensive attacks and resourcefulness.

Water 💧 is the element of change. The people of the Water Tribe are capable of adapting to many things. They have a deep sense of community and love that holds them together through anything.
With that logic, waterbenders can bend air using the moisture in the air. And it won't be easy bending water with air. It would take alot of wind to get it off the ground(atleast size able waters). It would be more like water pushing instead of bending.
I would be so cool if waterbenders could redirect lighting by storing it in a bubble of something and then creat a lighting water whip lol, the lighting would not hurt the waterbender if the water is not touching the user
