Here’s an idea. How about you do this mod again and you and your friend race to see who can complete the level first. The twist is that one of you takes the hero mission while the other is dark.

Neat. I feel like the most interesting one would probably be Space Gadget. You know, the one where you race Sonic to the chaos emerald (even though it’s just a time limit).
It’s one of, if not the only, levels in the game that locks the player onto a certain path if they choose to attempt it via its level design. But with the two player mod, you could theoretically put one player past that cut off point so you and your rival would be playing two completely different levels via paths that don’t intersect…
