Brilliant Stephen. Your video really sums up what it was like. I ran with you for a while and was enduring the later checkpoints with you. In fact in your opening speech I am in the background under a massive duvet trying to get my body temperature up. Well done for finishing. You will do a better job next time!
Yes I think knowing the course actually helps in this scenario. Note I know what to expect I think I could head together a bit better. I definitely lost the mental battle on this one.
Hi Stephen. I said I was looking forward to your Lakeland video on the camping field. It was everything I expected and more. I hope you liked the Lakeland route. Even though you didn't achieve any Wainwrights. I was pleased to hear you think its harder than the Arc as its on my bucket list. Looking forward to your UTMB vid. Good luck
Thanks Mick. It’s definitely close now I look back. I have recovered a lot quicker from Lakeland than I have done from the Arc. But I definitely lost a mental battle with Lakeland. I need to come back and learn how to beat it.
Wow, I want to go there. This look so refreshing. Could break the SVP100 curse (only 54K for me this year. Tarmac was melting in the afternoon. 48% of the men and 20% of the women finished...) Congratulations Steve.

I'll be there next year but only volunteering. I have too many other 100s next year so can't fit Lakeland in. But I'll hopefully be running again in 2024.
Another great video Stephen and really shows what the L100 is all about. It's more than a 100 miler, its the family feel to it. Also many congratulations on finishing it. For me this year it was a DNF. I had finished the 100 miler last year but i started with a stress fracture or bad sprain on my big toe. I was nursing it and was doing well but with the sharp rocks by the time i got to 50 miles i could barely walk on that foot. The rest of the body was good but i was so worried i could mess up my foot more seriously and called it a day. To be honest i don't regret having to stop. It's what i had to do. Me and you was pretty much nearby for a big chunk of the first part and i would have said hi but i think you went past me at an aid station. After i got back to the school i was checking on you, Spencer and the rest of the people i knew who was doing it and i was so happy when you got that medal. Over 2 weeks on and i still haven't run, just nursing my foot. It is getting better though and it's already on my mind will i or won't i sign up for next year? We'll see ;) Catch you soon.
These things happen to all of us. I remember starting NDW100 a few years ago, knowing I was injured. Got 20 miles in and had to stop. It's ok to stop. There are plenty more races.
Well done Stephen! Truly impressive, you really show grit and determination. I really can relate to not wanting to film in those dark times, but it really does bring the reality of the race and the effort you put in to the viewers. You can rest well and be assured that despite the pain, exhaustion and trench foot, you've certainly inspired me to take this race on and I'm sure many others. Thank you. Rest well.

Depends on the weather, this year the arc100 was quite mild. My time on it was still slower than LL100 tho. Perhaps the difference is expectations? The Arc is known to be brutal with a high DNF rate but LL100 could be easily underestimated (ie not changing socks halfway!)
@@FilmMyRun Thanks Stephen but after DNFing the NC110km, I have sadly decided to defer The Arc. I just don't feel like I will be ready and need more experience down on that Coast Path. See you in 2024! I am doing WW50 on Nov12th though.

Thanks Jenny. I think it's because I have done a few 100s now and I kind of know it's going to be awful for a bit but I'm going to get through it. Experience counts a lot in these things because you've been there before and you know what it takes to finish. With hindsight it is a tough question. My legs recovered a lot quicker after LL100 than the Arc. But at the time I was convinced it was tougher. Now I'm 50/50 again! I'm interested to hear more from others about which they think is more difficult.
I have been waiting for this video. First, huge congratulations for finishing the Lakeland 100 absolutely amazing. I will remember your determination and grit when I'm in my first 100 in October. @@FilmMyRun Ah cool. Congrats on your race, even though a little slower than you wanted. Your training motivated me through my training for my first 100k, which I finished in stellar style. Have a fall marathon, and might do a November 50 miler... Considering bumping to 100 miles sometime next year.
Hi! So, yes I said that in the heat of the moment after finishing Lakeland, which was particularly tough partly because of the weather. In hindsight I would say they are probably equally tough for a first timer. The more I did the ARC the easier it got because I knew it so well. As for the others. TDS is by far the hardest of all of those. CCC was tough but looking back I was probably not prepared enough for it and if I went back I'd be hoping to do a lot better than I did. If you can do the ARC and CCC then Lakeland will probably feel about the same.
How were the feet and how would you rate the speed goats for the 100 distance compared to anything else you have. Also, what could you have done to avoid trashing your feet? I have looked forward to and enjoyed the whole series. Really appreciate all the effort you have put into them.
Feet recovered well afterwards and legs recovered very quickly, mostly because I didn’t run very much!! I think I should probably have done some foot care at the Dalemain checkpoint. That might have helped. But it was just soooooo wet all the way round. Speedgoats are my go to trail shoe for long distance. The cushioning and comfort are perfect for me in 99% of situations.
I think your recovery is going to have been down to your extensive training. I'm booked into the arc so it sounds like the ll100 might be a good follow up if I'm looking to up the elevation. What was your best time for the Arc before taking on the live coverage?
Big congratulations on this adventure! You really did take it all out. Really impressive with the weather conditions. Great video as always. " Loads of fruit over there", haha! How is your feet, smashed i take it? Big cheers from Norway!
Hi there. There's nothing magic about the stick! It's simply a blind spot below the two lenses of the 360 camera. This allows the stick to appear invisible....which is handy
@@FilmMyRun I thought it was them. I am doing the NDW50 and torn between Speedgoat 5s and Inov8 g300s (i have both, just cant decide yet). Thanks for the videos!
@@tompayne10 really depends how wet it is. I don’t find Mudclaws that comfortable over long distance. But if it’s really wet it might be worth the compromise.
@@FilmMyRun I did it last year in Torrents, it was very dry (just missed the finish cut-off as i was ill). I have the trailfly 300 (not the mudclaw), they feel pretty similar to the Speedgoats.
Gosh you are so late to the party. Cant believe its taken you so long to get round to doing it considering you've done some other mammoth stuff. I think, and this may apply to you that a lot of people are put off because its classed as being self navigating and you need to be able to read a map and follow a road book buts its not like the Dragons Back where thats more critical. Ive finished the LL100 3 times and love it, every part of it, but hate the fact that its popularity has got so big that to get a place now you have to go into a lottery. When I first done it you could still get a place on the 100 weeks before turning up. Also interesting to hear you say its harder than the Arc. I would totally agree on that point as I have never finished the Arc but I think thats just because of the time of year rather than how hard it actually is.
Hahaha, honestly I've tried to get in for about 7 years. Was always too slow on the button in the early years and then this is the first time I've been drawn in the lottery! I think, with hindsight, it's a tough call between Lakeland and the Arc. I've recovered a lot quicker from LL100, probably because I didn't run very much of it!!
Bad conditions more than anything and a mistake in not carrying out foot care at half way. My feet were trashed by 50 miles because they were constantly wet. They remained constantly wet and it got me down. I lost my head with 30 miles to go and it was definitely a grind to get to the finish.
@@FilmMyRun Wet feet, then blisters...not good. I suppose these long races (for you) are more enjoyable when you only have fatigue and muscle pain to deal with?

Have a fall marathon, and might do a November 50 miler... Considering bumping to 100 miles sometime next year.
Congratulations on the finish it really is a tough 1. Just curious, you say it’s harder than the arc but how does it compare to the UTMB TDS or CCC?
@@juststalks my best Arc time is 28:30
Fantastic film, again!
Can you recommend some scenic 100 miler run i the alps / pyrenes?
Plenty of beautiful routes to run in the Alps. Of course the big event every year is UTMB in Chamonix and Val D'Aran in the Pyrenees.
Big congratulations on this adventure! You really did take it all out. Really impressive with the weather conditions. Great video as always. " Loads of fruit over there", haha! How is your feet, smashed i take it? Big cheers from Norway!
Hey Lars it did take a while for my feet to get back to normal!! Was a hell of a summer of running
great effort, stupid question maybe but what is that magic stick you're keeping your cam up with? baffled me.
Hi there. There's nothing magic about the stick! It's simply a blind spot below the two lenses of the 360 camera. This allows the stick to appear invisible....which is handy
Excellent, I have added this to my 'to do' list. What shoes are those?
I wore my Hoka Speedgoat 5s the whole way. They are the perfect long distance shoe for me.
@@FilmMyRun 😄
Does somebody recognize the pack that Laura is carrying at 3:29?
Jan did you ever find out what the pack was? I could probably ask her for you.
I don't think I did 😂
This run did not look in any way a fun experience. Just a bad day or just too much?
Bad conditions more than anything and a mistake in not carrying out foot care at half way. My feet were trashed by 50 miles because they were constantly wet. They remained constantly wet and it got me down. I lost my head with 30 miles to go and it was definitely a grind to get to the finish.
@@FilmMyRun Wet feet, then blisters...not good. I suppose these long races (for you) are more enjoyable when you only have fatigue and muscle pain to deal with?
I think they are cows 🐄😂
Hahahaha
