  • Every year in the Lake District, thousands of people gather to cheer on one of the UK’s biggest Ultra Trail Races, where runners take part in one of two epic events, and aim to complete either a 50 or a 105 mile course. The weekend brings people from across the country and around the world together in a demonstration of determination, commitment, and resilience, where participants run through the night and over some of the most spectacular terrain in the country to push their limits in what many would call the greatest physical challenge of their lives. We take a look at the Montane Lakeland 50 & 100, and what it means to compete in this purely epic event.
Special thanks to Thierry for letting us follow his journey, and to Marc for giving us an insight into the Lakeland family. And huge thanks to Montane for allowing us to follow and document the event. For more information on the weekend, have a look at lakeland100.com.
Also a massive thanks to the following for sharing their stories with us:
    Ross Beveridge
    Stephen Blythe
    Mick Browne
    David Brunton
    Paul Chrisp
    David Earnshaw
    Ben Hackney-Williams
    Harry Harrison

    Adrian Leigh
    Steve Pheby
    Ella Scott
    Warwick Taylor
    Hector Thornton-Swan
    Paul Turner
    Julie Williamson
    Philip Wilton
We were in complete awe of the weekend and the people that make it so unique, whether it’s the runners pushing themselves to their limits, or the marshals and stewards that keep them going at the toughest times. Everyone at the event was an inspiration, and we look forward to what next year holds.

Amazing story! Kind of makes me want to give it a go myself one day.
"I do think it's the most difficult race in the country" was powerful

Brilliant film! Really sums up why we do it, perfectly. Everyone has their own limits but experiences similar highs and lows whether you're at the front, middle or back. Huge congratulations to all who take part and those who organise and volunteer, without you there, there would not be such an inclusive community.

What a great film. You have really captured the sense of community. I love the aerial shot at 13:18 of the lone runner, dwarfed by the mountain and your heroic orchestral score
