The only time Cap was selfish, and he damn sure deserved it!
It wasn't selfish. It was just the first time he did something only for himself (Unless you count Peggy. He did give his word on that dance, so in a way he was still doing it for someone else by following through with his word). Which might technically be selfish but the word has negative connotations that kinda over reach way past its literal meaning.
TaSK the way I’ve seen it, when Cap stays in the past to build a life with Peggy, he also retires from the superhero gig (and I agree that he more than deserved it). This video does make a good point in acknowledging Cap’s line in Age of Ultron, which also lines up with my theory that he lived a very quiet life with Peggy and didn’t interfere with historical events for the sake of preserving the timeline. A spin-off movie about Cap returning the stones would explain everything if Marvel would make it
A lot of people use selfish because Cap didn't tell the Avengers he was planning to leave, and technically could have stayed and fought for the good of humanity in the future still. But i do understand the word itself has a negative tone and in this context i don't necessarily mean it to be that negative.

Well, thinking about If Steve had gone back to the 40's with his memories, he probably would be too careful not to disrupt events in fear that some drastic change would happen (some global lesson unlearned, some war started accidentally) Perhaps if he stopped 9/11, he might end up causing some other worse, more majorly terrible event. or something would change and prevent the Avengers assembling or some person who still contributes from the shadows from doing their part. Anything as small as bumping into someone at a train station could cause something drastically different (Maybe that person never meets or does meet someone important and their future child changes events somehow)
Second thought leading off the first: if Captain rogers had suddenly disappeared in the plane crash and everyone thought he was dead, Maybe Steve prefered that everyone believe that he was dead so that he could have a quiet life while avoiding changing the timeline. Maybe he went "Undercover" so to speak, and WAS the soldier that Peggy married.

The timeline they are in is the same timeline when cap went back, in the photo of peggy carters children, the husband is no where to be seen, because this is cap and cap, knowing that if the photo showed himself to the younger cap, would cause some form of trouble because of the time travel conundrum, the current timeline is and has always been a timeline where cap would eventually go back in time to reunite with Peggy.

If Cap went back and stayed there, what about the "other" Steve who's frozen?
Depends if its alternate timeline or not (writers and directors say different stuff). If its alternate, then our Steve probably prevented most bad events, but if he managed to stay in our timeline, then he just waited it off and the rest would happen like it already happened in MCU.
I would imagine he didn't make contact with Peggy until AFTER he was frozen and the events of Agent Carter.
That way the original timeline was not disturbed and continued as before. Steve then lived under the radar to prevent causing branches of the timelines.
Basically he lived a normal life with Peggy as he originally wanted to do.

Everyone assumes Cap did nothing after going to stay in the past. I think that Cap was a secrete SHIELD agent who was working behind the scenes to keep things from being way worse than what we saw in the MCU. Maybe he fought Hydra and kept them underground, delaying their progress until the Avengers could assemble.

So with the writer's theory, that Cap stayed in the main timeline, they also confirmed that the "soldier" that Peggy was talking about in Winter Soldier, was future Cap all along. So, if we're going with the writer's theory, Peggy's husband is future Cap. As for the director's theory, it would be someone else.
I'll trust the writers on this. They know better considering they're the writers themselves.

175, assuming a few things. Marvel picked July 4, 1918 as the MCU Rogers' birthdate. Assuming they want 2019 to be the year for the Endgame events, he'd be just shy of 101 years old. Also assuming the dance we saw was in 1945 (the song playing was from 1945), and that he returned perhaps a couple of months before it (since they already had a house), then he'd have another 74 years to catch up with Falcon. Got to love that Super Soldier Serum.
Not entirely true. the theory is when cap when in to the ice he essentially stopped aging, so even though it had been 70years or so. He remained a "spry" 26 year old. If he was thawed in 2011 then he would be 34 when he made his return trip to Peggy. Still puts him over 100 when he passes on the shield. 109 if my math is correct. still got to love that super soldier serum because he look to be about 80.

I think the current timeline already existed where old CAP lived among the events that occurred. And by him entering time machine completes the loop of the mainline timeline.
That makes most sense and does not meddle with writer's theory of timelines.

Having watched the Stein's;Gate anime, Cap finding a way to stay under the radar in the main timeline always made sense to me.
Either way, though, it's not worth thinking too much into it unless the filmmakers decide to expand on this issue. Personally, I'm just happy Cap got a happy ending.

Not if you think of it this way: Cap is the ONLY paradox to the timeline, since this was the era he's ACTUALLY from. As a result, he can fit back in, and Hulk would still be correct on everything else. However, he could not go back to say Pearl Harbor and prevent that, since that is "past" to him in that era. Changing the "past" will not change the future.

@@Roanie1998 Hydra did try to experiment on him, but no one ever recreated a super-soldier serum as effective as Cap's in all the years following - hell, thats what banner was still trying to do, find some way to replicate the serum effect, when he became the hulk, so its fair to say Hydra only got a little bit of regenerative/youthfulness supersoldering out of Bucky. The part about the WinterSoldier being a ghost story is because they would keep him frozen for years, then thaw him out to do a job, then freeze him down again to be pulled out some years later, which is what attributed to the spy world even being confused by these identical stories years apart over and over, with him just vanishing between.
@@boomod3825 Well, the Howard Stark and the US government did eventually create a nearly perfect replication of Erskine’s formula. Howard was delivering doses of the serum in 1991 when Buck intercepted the serum and killed the Starks. It was then used on several Russian operatives, and much later the same thing was given to Blonsky by Ross. In both instances the serum made Blonsky and the Russians every bit the equal of Rogers. I mean, Blonsky went hand-to-hand with the Hulk for a while, got smashed and healed in hours.
Cap did interfere with the timeline but in a way that already happened. He worked with Nick Fury, feeding him key information when it was necessary. That would explain why Nick Fury seemed to always(nearly always) be one step ahead of everyone else.
