When Captain America went to the past to return all the Infinity Stones he still had the timeline GPS system suit on him which apparently still had enough juice to come back to his original timeline. He just spent his golden years with Peggy, she probably died before him, so he came back to his original point in time to pass on the shield to Falcon.

But, didn't he need to come back in that circular power landing pad thingamajig? So how did he get to the bench only a few feet away from them, without being seen? And how did they not see him while they were setting that whole thing up? Was he hiding behind the tree the whole time and waited for his younger self to vanish before he sat on the bench?

Still don't get it, if you can't change the past, how can Steve just be sitting on the bench ? I mean it seems like he just got back in the 40s and lived his life with Peggy, and that creates a new branch in time. BUT, it also means that he can't get back into his original "reality" before the time he left it, which means he should come back on the machine and with the suit, but he would just be old now. So I still don't fucking get how time travel works in Endgame, even after seeing it 2 times I can't wrap my head around how it works..(Oh and also if only one stone missing is bad for the whole universe how come Thanos destroying all 6 of them didn't just like shatter the space continuum or something ?!)

I personally really liked how they did time travel in this movie. Not only did it get the job done in an adequate, interesting, and unique way, it also left the door open for some pretty cool alternate realities. For instance, the one with Loki getting away in 2012 and the one with Thanos from 2014 (who is now missing, along with Nebula, from that timeline). My question is what happens if these timelines don't get realigned or resolved somehow? Do they simply remain as alternate realities with no harm no foul or will they eventually disrupt all realities? Is there even a way to realign these realities and, if so, how and what are the consequences of merging said timelines? So many questions and I cannot wait to see what Marvel has in store for us.

There's still an inescapable paradox though:
    1) The Avengers fight Thanos in "Infinity War". Thanos wins.
    2) The Avengers invent time travel to fix their loss.
    3) The invention of time travel allows younger Thanos to come forward in time *before* he gathers the stones, therefore in his timeline "Infinity War" didn't happen, but to the Avengers, it did.
4a) The Avengers may not have changed their past, but they *did* change Younger Thanos' future. Problem is, his future is their present. You can't change the past, but changing Younger Thanos' future shouldn't have been possible because, while the Avengers went backward and then forward within their own timeline, Thanos only went forward, *past* the events that made the timeline exist as it is.
4b) Imagine this with the "tube and string" method, but Thanos has his own string. That string, going forward through the tube as normal, includes "Infinity War". But he skips over that and ends up in a future that isn't part of his native, "first" timeline. Now, there's no reason why Pym particles can't take you to the future FIRST, but the current explanation of not changing your own past isn't enough to deal with being yanked into an alternate future. The timelines *must* interact somehow, if Younger Thanos ends up in a future that isn't his. That is, unless "a wizard did it" and you can just blame it on the vagaries of magic...except Pym particles aren't, as far as we know, magical.
This is explainable with "intelligent time", or "protected time", or whatever, where the Time Stone or God or what have you can keep all this straight and make it so paradoxes don't end the multiverse. But It's also possible that paradoxes create multiverse instability, which is probably what Mordu was so pissed off about in "Doctor Strange". Whatever solution they go with, they've made a mess and have a lot of splainin' to do.

This is exactly why Im confused, if young Thanos has moved forward then in his timeline everything that happened after 2012 never happened cuz he is doesn't exist anymore.

if anyone is saying “past thanos died while in the future so none of the events should have happened”,
Every time they went to the quantum realm, it brought them to timeline B
timeline B is one of the 14 million timelines strange was referring too
so, every time they went to the past to find stones, they went to timeline B and they brought the stones back to timeline A. thanos from timeline B found out and went to the future of timeline A and got killed so timeline B didn’t have issues anymore and timeline A had everyone brought back. that’s why vision is still dead (because timeline A is where infinity war happened) and why black widow is dead too, and then cap took the stones to timeline B to put them back and then spent his life with peggy while his timeline B version was still frozen and then he went back to timeline A.
that’s also why the gamora that knew peter and the gang is still dead but her timeline B version is MIA and also why nebula didn’t die when she shot/killed her past self

They didn't get into "timeline B" every time. They CREATED an alternate timeline EACH time they got back into an earlier date. 2012 new york. 2014 Morag. 1970 camp lehigh base. Each one represented a different timeline altered by THEM. Each one is reality b, c, d, etc...

    • @Mdess
      @Mdess 5 лет назад +2

The Stark Knight Returns yes new timelines were created. but hulk explained when talking to the ancient one that once the stones were placed back in the timeline, all would be fixed and corrected. so if your theory was correct, the events of infinity war would have never of happened because thanos would have died before even getting to that point. vision would still be alive because thanos would have never of come, and in reality, iron man would still be alive. i already thought about everything you said, but it doesn’t work. it would cause a giant plot hole in the movie. where the movie shouldn’t even exist.
the reasonable explanation would be that there was a corresponding timeline that was current with the one we saw through the years of thr MCU. where that timeline became affected with the changes to stones being taken.
so timeline A : all 22 movies occur here
timeline B : where they travel to take the stones, and form it it causes branches off there. to where B turned into B1-B2-B3 and so on. (the numbers representing the new branches off that timeline). and then once the stones get returned, the branches no longer exist. in which case that timeline has no thanos from 2014 and on. which means no guardians meeting and no infinity war. which doesn’t make sense.

Hmm idk its still confusing. I think once Cap returned all the stones everything just returned back to normal. If he returned the stones back where they got it from, like seconds after they got them then that would just reset the time and the battle of new york would turn out the same, star lord will still get the power stone, doctor strange still happens, red skull will still wait for thanos, Ultron still creates vision etc. because by returning them there wont be anymore interference from the Avengers as if they never traveled at all. Which means things will just continue how they were and Infinity War still happens but its okay cuz they still win later and get everyone back and that was the point. So maybe it is a circle. Their future just didnt change because Cap would always return the stones. The only thing that messes it up is Old Cap.

    • @_rvmphoto
      @_rvmphoto 5 лет назад +3

Thank you! Finally someone gets it!
Even though the Russos say Old Cap was in a different timeline, I'm convinced that Cap was there the entire time. After returning all the stones he goes back to 1945 and lives out the rest of his life with Peggy, she is the Head of SHIELD for many years, it would be easy for her to keep her husband a secret through the years. Need Proof?
      1. We never see Peggy's husband.
      2. She did an interview in 1953 that says she married a man that Cap saved but never names him.
      3. Cap returned in the current timeline you describe above after his other self goes in the ice making 2 Caps.
      4. Why is there a picture of Steve on her 1970's desk if she was already married in her interview in 1953?
      5. Peggy also suffered from Dementia/Alzheimer's on her death bed so recollections and seeing new cap would not phase her as much, also she was probably told by Cap about what was going to happen.
Some will point out that she was a widow when she died and if she was married, why would the husband not show up to the funeral? Because Cap had already told her that he was going to be there.(Civil War) Also, it was never mentioned that she was widow at any point in the timeline.
Also others may point out that he he'd have to be from a different timeline because he gives Falcon the shield. But it's not the same one that Tony gives him for the Thanos battle, it is an older version of it. Also in Spiderman Homecoming Happy states that hes loading the last of things on the plane from Avengers Tower including a prototype for Cap's new shield.

Can somebody answer this question plsss: are there any infinity stones in the current MCU timeline, cos remember Thanos destroyed all the stones.
Ancient one: The infinity stones create what you experience as a flow of time remove one stone and that flow splits, She goes on and says that the stones are weapons against forces of darkness and without them, the current world will be overrun.
So after the snap for 5 years there were no infinity stones in the current timeline and even after Hulk undid the snap only the Thanos snap was reversed and Cap returned the stones to their respective timeline, why didn't the forces of darkness attack in this time?? did Thanos snap Dormammu aswell into dust ??

Most assume that Old Steve returned the stones first then lived happily ever after with Carter. Instead, I think Steve really took Tony's "get a life" advice as he alluded to at the end of Endgame with a vengeance. I can imagine a time travelling Capt America (Capt Infinity?) armed with his Infinity Suitcase "doing the the right thing" righting wrongs everywhen and then returning the stones and then meeting Carter for their dance. With the stones, Steve "got all day" to save everyone. I don't think it's a stretch for him to take this on himself.
Proof? Steve wasn't shy about picking up a new shield for Falcon from some other timeline -- so what else did he do? Further proof? Steve's super soldier formula is supposed to drastically slow the ageing process. Steve showing visible signs of advanced ageing implies a really long time would have passed for him. Steve could very easily have spent multiple lifetimes with multiple Carters using the stones while being Captain Infinity and still have had more than enough juice to return the stones. Heck, Steve may have even fixed the timeline when Loki took the tesseract; Steve's 6 stones trumps Loki's 1.
And at the end of his long but still finite life as Captain Infinity, returning the stones would count as Steve's ultimate act of heroism.

Now that there are no stones in this our main MCU timeline/reality as they have been destroyed by Thanos at the start of the movie, so is our reality now not stabilized by infinity stones and open to attacks or what? I think Endgame’s time travel works because instead of “directly changing the past” which would break continuity and cause potential paradoxes, they use the concept of alternate realities and timelines, not affecting the original. Days of the future past, as well made as the movie is, I feel like it’s more confusing than Endgame’s because they went back to undo the past, therefore breaking continuity. Endgame doesn’t do that. Instead of changing the past, they create a branch timeline. It doesn’t affect the 199999 timeline. And I honestly think the Russos nailed it with the alternate timelines concept. Plus, they were even pruned when returning each stone to their respective timeline, with the TVA pruning Steve’s and Loki’s.

I think Cap got back to the main timeline quite simply. In his conversation with the ancient one Bruce was told that removing a stone from a timeline creates another alternate one. But he suggested that if you return the stone to place and time it was taken the two timelines merge back into one. So Cap could go back and return all the stones except the Power stone (he has until 2014 to return that). He can live out his life with Peggy in this alternate timeline and then after she dies in 2014 he can return the Power stone and the two timelines merge back together. That allows him to be sitting lakeside at the end of the movie.

Regarding how Steve Rogers/Captain America returned the six Infinity Stones at the conclusion of the _Endgame_ film, there’s an online FanFiction story entitled “The Infinity Stones Return: Captain America’s Final Adventure.” This story is written in the form of a heavily detailed plot-summary for an eight-episode mini-series. ¶
The first episode takes place before Captain America (hereafter called “Cap” for short) begins his journey, and shows Professor Hulk rebuilding the time machine and Scott Lang/Antman volunteering for the initial test run. This involves a return-trip to Clint Barton’s pre-snap home to put back the baseball glove that was taken during the original test-run. Afterward, Doctor Strange explains why the stones have been placed in the briefcase and reveals that the Tesseract, Orb, and Sceptre have been shrunken down to fit in Cap’s pockets and will be re-enlarged after he arrives in the past to re-contain their respective stones at the proper time. ¶
In the second episode, Cap visits the Ancient One in 2012 prior to the arrival of his earlier self in New York. There, she uses the combined power of the six stones in the briefcase to cast future-dated spells that will make the 2012-2014 timelines reset themselves once the heisted stones have been returned to their proper places. Afterwards, she transports to the roof of the New York sanctum where she gives Hulk the original version of the Time Stone after first putting on a performance-act of initial resistance and surprise to ensure he understands the importance of returning the stones afterward. She then reclaims the returned-version from Cap’s briefcase. ¶
In the third episode, the Ancient One continues to assist Cap by helping him recapture Loki and returning him into SHIELD custody along with the stolen 2012-Tesseract (after future-Tony and Scott have fled the scene of course). Afterwards, the re-enlarged Sceptre re-containing the Mind Stone is given back to the Hydra goons, thus triggering the first timeline-reboot spell which erases everyone’s memory of the wayward events. However, the final scene then reveals that since Loki misused the Space Stone’s power in the wayward timeline, a branch-timeline was nevertheless still created, thus requiring the TVA to intervene. ¶
In the fourth episode, Cap shoots forward to 2013 where he re-teams with the Ancient One for the journey to Asgard. There, they work together to neutralize Heimdall before putting the Reality Stone/Aether back into Jane Foster’s body and returning the enchanted hammer to a comically confused Thor. Afterward, the timeline is then likewise reset to erase everyone’s memories. ¶
The fifth episode has Cap shooting forward again to 2014 where he and the Ancient One return the re-enlarged Orb containing the Power Stone back to the temple on Morag after first making a brief but necessary side-trip to delay Korath’s arrival and prevent his interference. The sixth episode then has Cap being sent to Vormir where, in order to return the Soul Stone, he must first contend with a temporarily freed Red Skull and a temporarily resurrected Natasha Romanoff. ¶
The start of the seventh episode then reveals that, with the two stones from 2014 returned, the timeline has also now been reset so that everyone’s memories have been erased and that exact duplicate/replacement versions of Thanos, Gamora, and Nebula have been created to take the place of their original counterparts who jumped forward to 2023. ¶
Before travelling back to 1970 and then further back to 1946 though, Cap first reveals to the Ancient One that Doctor Strange had previously placed a charmed spell over Cap’s aura so that no one in the past would be able to recognize who he really is unless he wants them to. Hence, Peggy would be able to see Cap in his true form when he returns to her whereas everyone else would see him as somebody different. This would then enable him to easily change his name and assume the identity of a former G.I. whose unit was rescued by Captain America during the war as per the reference in the _Winter Soldier_ film. This also then explains why the younger Cap didn't recognize his older self at Peggy's funeral during the _Civil War_ movie. ¶
In the last part of this seventh episode, Cap returns to 1970 and puts the re-enlarged Tesseract containing the Space Stone back in the vault, then proceeds up to Hank Pym’s lab to put back the four replenished vials of Pym Particles. Upon arriving in the lab however, he is unexpectedly intercepted by the TVA. The final episode then has Cap being recruited by the TVA to fight the Red Guardian in 1984 before being allowed to return to 1946 and live happily ever after. ¶
Hope you enjoy reading the story in full on the FanFiction website. Cheers!!

According to MCU time travel, if two of the same person can coexist within the same timeline without affecting the future, then the end result could be infinite duplicates of said person.

Then you are not really following MCU time travel rules.

2- New timelines or branches are created
3- Hulk makes the first snap and bring everyone back
4- Thanos travel to the future of the main timeline, creating a new branch where he is absent and infinity war didn't happen.
5- Tony does the 2nd snap and decimate Thanos and the army and the gamora from the past (and probably the Nebula from the past as well, even if she's now dead).
6- Steve travels back to the created timelines to return the stones (they don't need to be placed in the same places, just being in the exact timeline and exact dates and locations).
7- All the branches are deleted leaving only the main branch and the branch where Loki escaped with the teseract.
The main branch never gets changed.
8- Steve, still with the time traveling equipment, travels to the main timeline, to a date after he crashed and got frozen, creating a last timeline/branch were he lived his life with Peggy and got old. In the maintimeline, peggy married someone else and had children.
9- After aging old and lived a great life with Peggy, then he travels one more time, to the future of the main timeline, and passes the shield to Falcon (Sam Wilson).
Here is were people get confused. They assume that because when the others traveled, they were returned through the time machine, so should Steve, but they forget that the travelers can choose the time and the place to travel to. So he traveled to the place were Bucky, Hulk and Falcon were, but possibly earlier, and possible somewhere else and walked to the bench, or just traveled in front of the bench and just sit down.
The open branch where Loki got away with the teresarct, let the door open to Kang The Conqueror, a time traveling villain to be the main cosmic threat of the Phase 4 of the MCU.

    So, this means that...
Endgame Steve travelled back to Peggy via quantum realm, lived with her along with frozen Steve in his newly created timeline. Then, after living until he got old, the same (Endgame Steve) travelled back to Endgame timeline ( the one which we saw) just to hand Falcon his shield ...
Afterwards he might go back to "that" Peggy timeline or maybe stayed in this same timeline if Peggy was dead due to natural causes ...
Would be more interesting if coming MCU movies show us this old Steve mentoring new avengeres ( or may be using serum, he gets revived to younger one and fight new villains of Earth). :)

They said he used a suit and particle to get back where he was already, but I had a different theory. Cap traveled back and when he stayed he created an alternate timeline. Then he grew old and he waited. Once he reached the point where he left, that alternate timeline he created closed, because he returned to the time he left, only older. To everyone else, nothing happened, but to Cap, he lived an alternate life that no one knows about. That’s why Sam didn’t know who it was, because none of them knew what he did, except for
Bucky. I think Cap told Bucky what was going to happen, which is why he wasn’t surprised.

Steve could have been a closed-loop predestined paradox, as in, he was ALWAYS destined to finish Endgame by going back in time and marrying Peggy. We never see her husband, hear his name, or know what he was like, and Peggy was always keeping secrets from people, so marrying Captain America from the future would probably be her BIGGEST secret, which she would've kept til her grave. Her line to Steve in The Winter Soldier, "Sometimes it's best to start over" was such a subtle hint that Steve should go back and start his life over with her in the 40s/50s, and so, given the chance with time travel, after seeing his friend and fellow Avenger, Tony Stark, die in battle, he knew he needed the life that Tony always said he should get.

In the time travel scene with Tony and Steve they go back to the original shield base,;There steve grabs more of the pym-particle then needed.(This was becuase of his 4 canisters of the particles, The infinity stones where only 3 locations.) It's a very short scene but it shows that Steve had more chances of going through time then the others, Ant-Man wasted one early on as an example when he complained about the Hulk being heavy handed. Steve went back in time to live his life with his love during the time the original Captain America was in ice because it's hinted by her on her death bed in the original Captain America that she always loved him, it's very subtle but it was planned from the start script wise. So technically Steve's Endgame timeline is the same and it is the one we as viewers are following throughout the movies. I actually went back and watched Captain America again and the ending with her makes so much more sense now, it's like they are telling you the outcome of Endgame.

As for the Peggy Carter pot hole, Steve was the one that married her all along but kept him a secret to the public. I think the Timetravel rules have been greatly misunderstood. It seems the Marvel Universe works on the principle that you can change stuff in the timeline, but most things are still going to happen unless you make an effort to make a critical change. So its reasonable that Captain America went back in time to restore the Timeline and simply lived through it normally without his interference. They did a shit ton of stuff back in the past, so returned infinity stones or not there would otherwise be a crapton of new Universes. At the end of Endgame though, the only alternate timeline is one without Thanos and his crew.

Technically, as soon as someone travels into the past, they've already created another timeline. If that character's flow leads them to interacting with the world in a way that didn't happen in their own past, then the start of that thread, as it were, was the moment they breathed air in the 'past'.
I do like that they have the temporal connection to return to their present, not the future-present of the timeline splinter they just created. :)

    • @prasadpawar7027

So every time they go back in time they make new timeline. So 2012, 2013, 2014, 1970 make 4 timelines. Also when cap goes back to return the stones, he also makes 4 more timelines because he is going back in time. Now he goes to 1940 to peggy that makes 1 more timeline. So now there are 9 timelines and our mcu main timeline. Nice.

@@prasadpawar7027 Yeah I think they tend to 'shrug it off', like they did with Loki and the tesseract 'oh it's just another universe now'. With those splintered timelines, as long as 'our' heroes are tied back to their own future, they can return and continue on, as we see in Endgame.
In other movies we see people travel back, change history, but they themselves remain the same, yet return to the splintered/altered timeline future (BTTF2). In Endgame they returned to the moment they left in their own unchanged universe. ...except you know at the end, with old Cap, as mentioned in this video :P
But the one point that keeps getting me about the 'infinite possible universes' made because of differences in choice, why is there only ever one that does time travel or parallel universe hopping? Wouldn't there be millions (or, technically, infinite) nearly-identical people doing the nearly-identical traveling?
Though I guess, theoretically, an infinite set of possibilities doesn't necessarily mean one possibility cannot exist ONLY once. ... maybe that's the point Strange was making. Of some many alternate possibilities, only 1 would work.
      hm.
Yet... what if the rat had stepped 1mm to the left? Would that have changed the outcome? Or 1/2mm? Or 1/100mm? If that's the ONLY difference between one universe and another to that point, would it have changed the outcome? That's what bugs me about these story theories. They only tend to focus on major decision changes and assume infinite possibilities; but on what basis do they shrug off the microscopic differences?
Ahh, love thinking like this! :)

Pwnstar You’re addressing a point that just came to mind after my 2nd viewing just now.
It may not be based on an ‘infinite number of parallel universes’ theory, where every decision creates a new universe (infinite because for example a new universe is made if I choose to cross the road 5 seconds earlier; or later; or 3 seconds; or 30 seconds; or in front of a car, etc)
But rather, a tree structure - as shown in the timeline visual in the film: one timeline, but if time travel occurs, then a new outcome is created- that’s now 2 alternate universes. It’s interaction with the threads and alteration that can create separate universes that don’t exist until then. That’s why Loki can run away with a tesseract and be forgotten. However going back to get the first tesseract also created a new parallel - a timeline that lost that tesseract.
Steve has to return the stones to the moment after they were taken; but technically there were other interactions which kept that timeline parallel distinct. Unless Tony’s dad really did have that discussion with him before Tony was born....
However - Steve went back and returned the stones, but remained in 1970. Presumably that parallel had no epic battle for infinity stones, given Steve’s state - which begs the question: How did Steve end up on that bench if he belongs to a parallel universe where half of life wasn’t wiped clean? My head-canon is that somehow, while he didn’t return via the time machine, he found/discovered a new way to return to his prime timeline from the one where he married and lived out his life happily. That’s the only way I can see to rectify this parallel universe coexistence at the outro...

When you come back, your past now includes in it all the events you have experienced and as such, your past includes the time travel as an event that took place as something new and not as something that changes your past. In 2014, he cant bring back thanos and his army, or put the power stone back in the orb. In 2013 he cant have stopped the immediate aftermath of a missing mjolnir, or explain how jane foster gets injected again. In 2012, he cant undo loki, or return the scepter. In 1970 he cant stop the Tony stark conversation or give the tesseract. In fact i think this is how Marvel introduces the multi-verse, to allow for future characters to meet each other.
The plothole is, how does Steve go to the realities that have the missing stones? The device he has only allows you to go to an earlier time point in your timeline to cause a branch, it doesnt let you select a branch. i'll do you one better: HOW did Cap return the Infinity Stones to their original time? how did he re-create Tesseract around the Space Stone? how did he put the Mind Stone back into its "shell" and then back onto the Scepter? how did he get the Reality Stone back into Jane? :D

@@dominoeking that makes a lot of sense. except when Cap leaves, he has the Stones in a little case in their "stone" form. shouldn't Doctor Strange have time-reverted the Stones before Cap left? i don't think it makes sense to assume that Cap himself used the Time Stone to revert the Stones after he left. are we to assume that the Ancient One did it?

All this time, these events were just an actual setup that leads to Kang the Conqueror's arrival and his other variants.

Uhm but you literally missed the most important point that the Ancient One made : The alternate realities are only created when an Infinity Stone is taken, but if they are put back, that reality is erased & everything exists in one reality which does result in few plot holes in the movie but they're all gonna be solved in Phase 4. Except for that, its fairly consistent in this movie.

    • @Pwnstared
      @Pwnstared 5 лет назад +1

She never says it is erased. She's implying they need the Stones to defend the universe from invasion. Nothing is erased if the stone comes back, they just get that Stone to use as a weapon again.
Watch that scene again. She never says it is erased, I don't know what you are talking about.

My headcanon is: Old cap probably ask for help to ancient one to go back to his original mcu timeline by using the time stone (or whatever stones he needs in order to get back) after peggy died and after he put the infinity stones back in the right year they took in endgame. Thus doesn't intertwine with that alternate timeline young captain america

  • @ivb6391

I think the reason why they were so many different possibilities was because when hulk tries to get the time stone from the bald headed girl(forgot her name) she would not give it up until hulk tells her about dr strange and she realizes that the “mistake” was truly her mistake for not giving up the time stone. And it makes sense because Dr.strange in infinity war and the girl both state they would do anything to keep the time stone protected, until dr. Strange gives up the time stone in Infinity War to save iron man, because according to his possibilities, it was the only way and eventually the girl will realize that and also give up the time stone to Hulk .

Yes. The reason that Cap looks relatively young in the MCU is that when he was frozen he didn't age so he would still look like someone who's in their 30's. But since he went back in time he was aging for 70-80 years. Granted at a slower rate then most humans but nevertheless still aging.

    • @brianmannion7097

I think so because when they went back to 2012 Steve met his 2012 self as well and you're not meant to do that to keep the timeline intact. But 2019 Steve used the mind stone sceptor to undo his encounter with his past self. I honestly don't think anything changed from the mcu events in 1945 where Cap sacrifices himself to 2014/2019 (I don't know which lol). When Steve returnded to the original timeline a lot older, he essentially 'teleported' back to 1945 or the 70's or whenever to live his life with Peggy and then return to the original timeline possibly creating another reality depending on if Steve screwed anything up or Peggy not keeping secrets because without the death of Steve Rogers there would be no Shield, winter soldier, hydra etc.
