“You should be far more concerned with your current trajectory than with your current results.” I like that quote from James' book. I also like the mindfulness workbook called 30 Days to Reduce Stress by Harper Daniels. It helps to learn mindfulness meditation.
This guy has helped me out a lot! before I read his book "atomic habits" I was having a very hard time sticking to anything I started. I try to go to the gym 3 times on 3 different memberships. It didn't stick. Now I work out almost every day, I study Italian 6 days a week, I read 6 days a week and I meditate 6 days a week, thanks to the simple principles he lays out in his book. I remember something Less Brown said. "some people want to be successful, but they just don't know how!" That was me before I read his book. As he said, we are all on this journey of learning and discovery together, but I feel that I could not have a better foundation. I'm 42, and I have been reading self-help books since I was in my 20's. so if you are out there thinking that there is no solution to a particular challenge you are going through, don't throw the towel in. Keep searching.. By the way, I started really small each one of the things I mentioned above. As little as 2 minutes a day, then I gradually increased the intensity every month. Thank you, James. I have read your book 3 times, and I will read it again on new years. I think they should call you Prometheus. There is something about the way you wrote the book. It feels perfect! easy to read and effective.
@@EvanCarmichael you're very impressive. I would love for someone to interview you as well. I would love to know your story. Thank you so much for the videos. They are flawlessly done.
I've managed to force myself 7 days a week to either go for a walk or run for the last 2 years and now its not even a struggle I'm addicted to it and have to do it every single day. Some days I walk/run 6 miles most days I walk/run 3 or 4 miles. And don't get me started on the sunsets and the stars :) I've realized there is no finish line with this its purely mental and physical maintenance and that I will do it until the day I die.
Great share! Two years ago, when you first decided to adopt this habit, what first 3 actions did you take to get started? Did you adopt any of the 3 challenges mentioned in the "3-point landing questions" at Timestamp 20:10 in the video? (Changed environment, Changed Identity, Eliminate Bad Habit) Thanks again for your post. And thanks in advance for sharing your "first 3 actions" on your road to your 2 year habit!
"When life doesn't challenge you, it's important to challenge yourself" Thank you for this great video! You’re channel inspires me to read more and invest more in my personal growth. I hope to eventually help as much people with my channel as you do!

This video is like the concise version of his book Atomic Habits! James Clear has a clarity of mind that's almost divine... How appropriate is that surname?! :D
1. Put my phone further away from me before going to sleep so I don't feel tempted to scroll through the Internet. 2. I've struggled with making lasting changes in my habits because I've been too focused on goals over systems. So now I'm just focusing on meeting my daily milestones instead of worrying about what my future self is gonna look like. 3. Bad habit to eliminate will be not being specific about the place and time for completing my habits. I think this is the core behind why I'm not seeing changes much. I'm making a rule for myself: if I cannot find a specific time and place over the week to perform a habit, then I need to either make adjustments to my daily routine or scrap it.
Developing an expertise in your chosen field I think is a great one. Too many would like to rush towards the end goal, but focus on being in a position to be an authority first. Great tips
Started reading the book this week after it was recommended by high achievers. Started training (20-30min) daily Environments takes care of itself when you stick to good, healthy habits, only if you don't cling to it 😉 Thanks for the video, well done, concise.
After reading this part about identity, process, outcomes, habits, systems and belief, I felt my person change from what I had been thinking about to who I am. Made such a huge difference in me, my life and how I do life. Thank you so much for giving me this gift. A life changer
Answer 1: I usually work from home and everybody gets up at 9am which also sabotage me.....so I would take the major responsibility of getting everyone up early in the morning by starting with myself first....This would definitely change my environment 2.I would leave all the habits that are no longer serving me and allow only those who can 3. The habit of over thinking would go to trash today
James is the best guest ever- no ohio bias! 😉 James is very clear (no pun intended) but it’s not lofty or fluffy but rather very practical for ordinary people to know how to apply the info; whereas, some of your guests speak to entrepreneurs etc James speaks to everyone
Oh, so awesome! Habits are the way to make progress and also a foundation of my weight loss program 👍❤ I really need this guy's expertise this year to make my time keeping and focus habits stick! 😁 Thanks for putting this video together Evan!
1. remove my internet connection to get out more 2. identity i can be good at social interactions and relationships, 3. bad habit - stop online for the things that matter
The human mind has the ability to apply ideas and concepts generated from one origin to another context or situation. Reading builds a body of information and ideas that one can draw from when dealing with novel problems needing novel solutions.
1) I will place water bottles in every room so that I drink enough water everyday. 2) I m the type of person who takes care of me. I will be watchful of what words I use after "I am". 3) I will have small serving and drink 2 glasses of water before eating so that I can avoid overeating.
yes, and not just energy to eat (find/grow/harvest) your food... but also to find and carry water to drink, cook, and wash; gather wood for fire; etc...
This was really Good, and it helps me to identify alot if things. Changing your environment Re inventing yourself New Habits make a lifestyle change. All great tools
1. Set wealth triggers in my home and office to provide positive vibes. 2. Emulate to people who are more disciplined and successful. Like you Evan. 3. I want to eliminate procrastination in my habits.
Going to read art 1 hour a day (good habit), sticking to my schedule and no longer just writing it down and setting it to the side, going start posting positive, motivational notes around my desk at my office.
1. What will you change in your environment to serve you? Removing distractions to achieve maximum flow state. 2. What will you change in your identity to serve you? Confidence 3.What bad habit will you eliminate today? Constantly checking social media.
"tell the story of why you failed" part reminded me of how I quit smoking and in the end, only one moment that did it for me out of years of failed attempts. I was on my way to the shop to buy more cigarettes and then, I imaged in my head that I had already quit a year ago and was explaining to someone how I did it and forgot to stop at the shop. I drove past it and just kept driving along with this imaginary conversation in my head coming out with philosophical moral and motivating statements from the perspective that I had already become a non-smoker. I never went back to that shop for cigarettes again. PS - Sone of the statements that came out in my imaginary conversation is that if you don't want to smoke and you buy some, or ask someone else for one like some begger then your just a weak person. Think this helped in later craving stages where I didn't have cigarettes and if I craved them I would have to actually make the effort to get in the car and drive down the street to buy them and then I'd remember my non-smoker saying these things and I'd drive past the shop again. Actually, put myself in a position where it was easier to keep driving and feel strong than to stop get out of the car and feel pathetic and miserable handing over my hard-earned cash for crap I didn't want. Calling yourself weak or something may not be a good example for anyone else, think it only worked for me because I of something to do with when I was growing up, smoking made me feel like a tough guy so might have played into this self-psychology to work. But yeah imagining you have already achieved your goal and explain how you did it could help find your psychological key as it did for me.
"gotta be the architect of your life" especially when you wear a lot of hats like parent, caregiver, etc. I love that!! Would love to feel more like the architect instead of the person on an inner tube in white water rapids!
1. I unplugged the phone charger in my bedroom so I have to leave it outside every night. It serves me by allowing me to get to sleep earlier 2. I am an organized person 3. I no longer let dishes pile up. I wash them as I use them
9:15 many people think they lack motivation but they lack clarity. Bucket list. 14:00 totally agree. i became quite efficient at specific topics MOSTLY cause i constantly wrote down what i found valuable, and rewrite in my own words. and mix with other meaningfull details or other theme. association. triggers. .. so valuable. 385 pages and 2 year later, i cut my spending by 5 and keept my earning stable (i value free time more than money, cause time is priceless) not saying everyone should or want or can be extrem minimalist tho. i prefer maximise other things like economics, health, fitness, art, low cost pleasure happyness fun. enjoying simplcity.
1. Because I struggle with weight loss. I will simply move our sweets storage to another place. It's always so close that it takes no effort to get some sweets. I will change my idntity to a cleaner eater. I know what I should eat... and I like to eat it so thats not the Problem. I have to Plan my meals and go the long run to do what i planed. Maybe this will work with a simple List of sentences like. Monday morning at 8 I will eat my pre cooked Eggs with oatmeal. I'll try that. Today I'm canceling the habit of sweet drinks. Water will be my primary source of liquid from now on. Thnak you so much for this end Sequence. It really made me think about what i saw.
Great executable information. He gets it. For me, I like my fruit cold so I keep it in the crisper. But the idea is to open the bag beforehand and remove a few apples and place them in the fridge side cabinets where they are visible. This way you can visually be reminded to supplement them with your breakfast each morning. Or, just place a bowl of them on the eye level tray inside the fridge instead of the counter ;)
Love this stuff, but it lacks emotional element. Emotional habits: realizing how to be kind to yourself when you do fail (shame, guilt, frustration, hopelessness). Patience. Kindness. Self-compassion. Balancing the planning and the habit forming with good emotional and self-compassion habits
It better if you summery to a few so people can remember to implement - change your environment - create habit to create new identity - control the process and result by checking consistency - exercise and read - develop expertise
Jim, I have been using your ideas as well as Charles Duhigg's. You would not believe my long term results. Loved Atomic Habits & Charles book also. Here's to habit stacking! Do you still play baseball? 🙂
The reason why people ask for the time frame of setting up the habit, is relying on an external input, they rely on the timing, instead of taking their own responsibility of changing their life.
Mr Clear offers practical, doable approaches to upgrading ones life. I am committing to swimming 3 times a week, because this will energise me and help increase my stamina. I am committing also to eradicating negative self-talk and making a gratitude list each day.
1. I will take my book or kindle with me to bed at night. I plan to read at mornings, but many times a week i miss. But if i have it near me when i wake up i guess i will end up doing it atleast most of the days. Let me try it out. 2. I dont undertand how you change your identity. But the idea actually is very understandable and good. I want to do it, let me try and find out. 3. I will stop complaining. Im going to use my chain as my reminder. If i complain about somebody, the next time they do the same thing i behave in worse ways than usual and it never serves the purpose. I should not complain. #bta2

Sustainable habits, life style. Some great info here Evan, heard of James previously but never saw any footage. So this is great and I do like this guy, living the example I think is excellent. Thanks again Evan #believe #BTA42 #inspirationnation
If you listen to enough of these effective habits writers, you'll notice that most of them say the same thing in a different way. They mainly tell you to focus on a system, weekly check your system , adjust as you go and continually focus on progress
Strongly suggest anyone who enjoyed this video to read his (James Clear’s) book “Atomic Habits.” Probably the most useful book I’ve read in the last year! Hope this helps someone 🙏

The Rule " Put In the reps" is striking me very strongly. Quantities also matter in order to transform them into QUALITY......
Glad that it resonated with you. 💛😊 #Believe - Dondon

1. I unplugged the phone charger in my bedroom so I have to leave it outside every night. It serves me by allowing me to get to sleep earlier
2. I am an organized person
3. I no longer let dishes pile up. I wash them as I use them
Awesome. Keep it up Tajr. #Believe 💪💪😊 - Dondon
The system is super important - really like this video!! Thanks!

385 pages and 2 year later, i cut my spending by 5 and keept my earning stable (i value free time more than money, cause time is priceless)
not saying everyone should or want or can be extrem minimalist tho. i prefer maximise other things like economics, health, fitness, art, low cost pleasure happyness fun. enjoying simplcity.
Thank you for sharing that with us. 😊 #Believe - Feb
Awesome

Thank you for sharing with us. Stay consistent and keep it up! #Believe :) #BTA1097 Luka

I will unplug my TV. Right now. That way I can't just switch it on and watch one show, another show... Have a blessed Sunday everyone 😊
Have a blessed Sunday as well :) #BTA1388 Veljko
Great executable information. He gets it. For me, I like my fruit cold so I keep it in the crisper. But the idea is to open the bag beforehand and remove a few apples and place them in the fridge side cabinets where they are visible. This way you can visually be reminded to supplement them with your breakfast each morning. Or, just place a bowl of them on the eye level tray inside the fridge instead of the counter ;)
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for watching. 😊 #Believe - Feb
Thank you for making this video!
Thank You!

Glad you love it Peanut Butter. Thanks for watching. 💛😊 #Believe - Dondon
Incredible content! I cannot wait to purchase Atomic Habits!
Thanks for watching :) #BTA1412 Veljko
It better if you summery to a few so people can remember to implement
- change your environment
- create habit to create new identity
- control the process and result by checking consistency
- exercise and read
- develop expertise

I agree to committing to the system. It makes sense.

Jim, I have been using your ideas as well as Charles Duhigg's. You would not believe my long term results. Loved Atomic Habits & Charles book also. Here's to habit stacking! Do you still play baseball? 🙂
Thanks for watching! 💛😊 #Believe - Dondon
The reason why people ask for the time frame of setting up the habit, is relying on an external input, they rely on the timing, instead of taking their own responsibility of changing their life.
Very well said. #Believe - Feb
1. I will meet people who want archive something
2. I will be more and more courageous

Mr Clear offers practical, doable approaches to upgrading ones life. I am committing to swimming 3 times a week, because this will energise me and help increase my stamina. I am committing also to eradicating negative self-talk and making a gratitude list each day.
Okay :) #BTA1438 Veljko
A new player is around ;)
Thanks for watching Ariel :) #BTA1068 Luka
#bta2
That's a great way to get yourself to read more often. :) Take responsibility! Keep it going. #Believe :) #BTA1068 Luka

They mainly tell you to focus on a system, weekly check your system , adjust as you go and continually focus on progress

never heard of him but I like the way he thinks :)

Strongly suggest anyone who enjoyed this video to read his (James Clear’s) book “Atomic Habits.” Probably the most useful book I’ve read in the last year! Hope this helps someone 🙏
