Pro tip: When opening your amazon packages break the whole box down flat and fill one big box with all the flattened cardboard boxes you get. It makes for less clutter and they'll actually collect it on recycling day.
Bonus tip: Don't over stuff so tightly the cardboard won't fall out when inverted over the truck. I've done that twice. The first time they put the still full can back down, the second, they just dropped the whole bin into the truck and took it too! Took me 2 weeks to get a new one!
He made the choice of joining Poison as they were considered a joke and kinda the epitome of Everything the Seattle bands were " Fighting" against. So I think he got labelled as a " hair metal" guy and a " shredder " to us guitar nerds , not a recipe for cool points in that era. I honestly didn't know he sang till The Winery Dogs as I stopped thinking about him by the time he left Poison and became a solo artist, I had seen his Shred instructional video but that's it. My mind was blown away by his voice and talent , I always knew he was a awesome guitar player but had no idea he has one of the best voices in Rock. At least he is getting attention these days, he should be FAR more popular but we live in a world that HORRENDOUS modern Hip Hop and Strippers disguised as pop stars " singing" about the moisture of they're lady parts.......talent sadly isn't important to people these days.
As a 40-year guitarist, I absolutely LOVE the way you break things down. Just hearing you explain the chord progression completely opened up the fretboard for improv and understanding the thread of the progression. Thanks for what you do. I love learning new things every day
This is indeed the Power Trio of this generation. I have always thought the Billy Sheehan overplayed, but I realize that he's doing a lot of that to fill up the space. Mad respect for his skill set. Richie is simply a force of nature! One of the greatest vocalists of all time, and his guitar work is 2nd to none. And what can you say about Portnoy that hasn't already been said. A true master.
Kotzen's been one of my favorite musicians since i was introduced to him by a friend's band covering "Doin' what the devil says to do" in 2010. Since then i had the opportunity to see him live 7 times (1 of those with the Dogs), as he often came to Argentina up until the pandemic. I have to say tho i've seen docens of other world renowned bands in huge arenas, Kotzen's still in my podium of live performers, always with the same immaculate singing and playing, as well as some incredible backing musicians to not only support but play alongside his talent. It's truly been an amazing experience every time i've seen him live.
Ive seen winery dogs live and richie solo both live and man the tightness of both bands live is just breath taking...richie vocals and guitar playing duo is just next level
This is one of the best musical reactions ever. I really appreciate your depth of knowledge and, more importantly, your appreciation for the music and talent of others. GREAT stuff!!!
I’ve been a working professional guitar player for 30+ years. I’ve Been following your channel for a while now and love all your stuff. this is such a great breakdown of this song. Well done sir. Fantastic job. Keep up the great work.
Kotzen is so good, been listening to him since about ‘90 I think. Great job. I think this is my new favorite of yours, driving home why each musician in the band is important is great stuff to hammer.
Richie is the MVP! Top tier on guitar and vocals ... It must have been hard to be in Poison. They sold albums, but Richie had about 10 x more talent than the rest of that band combined!
Hey, im down the street from you. Thanks for your review, it lead me to some amazing talent. Im a fan of dt, ive seen mr big a few times, but man, ritchie! I had never heard of him, your review has led to an incredible musical investigation of this amazing rare talent. Thank you.
Great explanation of an amazing performance. Man, there's so much too learn from this. Might be my favorite song breakdown that I've ever seen. Great work!
Bro, just wanted to say this. I haven't signed up for Guitargate classes yet.....yet being the operative word there. But I've learned so much, and continue to learn so much, from your video's. Seriously. I'm not just blow'in smoke. Always picking up useful, relevant stuff from your teachings. I don't want to get all mushy, so thank you.
I’m a recent subscriber, Michael. So stoked you did this! I listen to this version at least twice a week, all three of them were locked in that night. Also, your joy for the music is infectious.
I just found your channel like 2 weeks ago, but it's been so eye opening and inspiring. I've started writing music for the first time since learning guitar 15 years ago. Thank you and keep it up!
Dude!!!! Made my day that you reacted to one of my livestream requests!!! Love the channel, your tone, and your insight on these breakdowns. Your explanation of the number system (1-7) broke some flood gates open for me with my playing. Missed the past few streams but looking forward to the next!
To think I first heard Richie on his Shrapnel instrumental album back in the late 80s when he was still a teenager....what a progression and career. Glad to see he's finally receiving the exposure and accolades that he's deserved all along IMO. He had a lot of years releasing solo albums without much exposure (I am working my way through them after only having his early mostly instrumental releases). As much as I wish he would've returned to the limelight from wherever he's been hiding, I have to thank John Sykes for passing on the project that became the Winery Dogs. Sheehan and Portnoy pivoted to Richie and here we are.
Great reaction. I love Portnoy and the Dogs, but seeing the pure joy of watching them made my day. Also, I did not notice it before but now I cannot ignore Billy’s tone anymore.
This is my favorite one! Love this from start to finish. The intro he does on this is stellar. Also the Amazon story oh know!!!! real world problems right? and then finally the great break down of the amazing performance of this band. This one is Golden! Really like the fire inside you coming out on this one MP! It has the real lesson vibe and a terrific break out!
One of the best live bands I have ever seen (I have been to over 400 concerts). Of course that's one of the benefits of over 15 years working in the radio biz...
Most EXCELLENT review Sir. Thank you. My everyday music. This is the best there is currently, maybe ever for a three piece. Richie is 1000% . Your descriptions are great. I'm a drummer 56yo but I'll be back. Thanks again
So - I don't understand a ding-dang thing about what you're talking about, Kind Sir, but... your true appreciation & enthusiasm is absolutely *contagious* and unbelievably *riveting* !! Well done!! As it happens, I fell down a wee bit of a rabbit hole & watched your Marcus King review (Wildflowers & Wine)... which led me to this video. And, sure - I know what a "guitar" is (lol), but that's about it... And yet, I watched the entirety of *BOTH* videos. Lovely day, Sir!
RIchie Kotzen is roundly ignored by so many people when they talk about their most revered guitarists, which is a real shame. The man has some serious chops - up there with the best - yet finds himself gravitating towards the more melodic blues rock. Here's a man who can shred, who can handle any technique and any lick, yet allows his songs to breathe, plays the rests, and can play his solos like he was singing them. I hate to use the term "underrated", as it's so often misused, but this man is truly underrated and underappreciated.
He is amazing, both vocals and guitar! I actually have the Richie Kotzen signature pedal by Tech 21 called the RK5, it sounds great and is basically all he uses live himself
I love how, going into the first chorus, Billy signals to Mike that "Richey sings alone on this one." One of my favorite live performances, right now, is Blackbird by Alter Bridge LIVE in Amsterdam. Of course, Myles' voice is insanely good, but the solo handoff from Kennedy to Tremonti (Bluesy to more shreddy) is excellent. And I love the volume swell touches that Myles puts in here and there.
Thanks man, I found this gem of a song a few months ago and have played it hundreds of times since. It’s great to see someone else loves it as much as I do. Great song, awesome performance, awesome musicians. Thanks for doing this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Such a great song originally... I love it when a band can turn something I am so familiar with into a new discovery. Faith No More did the same thing with "Easy"... timeless song done masterfully different.
They came to Nashville a few years ago. I'm a bass player. I went to the show to see Billy and Mike, I love those guys. After the show, all we could talk about was Richie Kotzen! That guy is absolutely amazing.
I think you covered this song very well Michael, I've been trying to cover this song for years, you pointed out some very critical nuances. Well worth the 1/2 hour, thank you
I saw Billy playing with DLR and Steve Vai for the Eat Em and Smile tour, it was pretty epic. At one point Steve started playing eruption, Billy walks over and slaps his hand over Vai's strings, silencing him, then launches into it on his bass, and they went back and forth tearing into the solo. Dave had a boxing ring set up in the middle of the floor so even people at the back could enjoy the show, iirc that's where he went to the edge, stood and looked down... it really was a great show, Dave was pulling out all the stops, wanted to make people say, Van Halen who?
Thanks much! I was nodding like a bobblehead. I suppose I got to this from listening to them on YT. I don't think I've seen one of your videos before. I'm a long time player and there were at least 2 points that condensed things I've known. I appreciate these guys a ton, though a lot of their material isn't quite to my liking. I grew up listening to this tune and have always loved it. Like you said: "you can see how much they like it.." That brings me to the best part - your reactions were great. Thank you. So many great points.. And, they did a great tune proud.
As a drummer, I like your assessment of the drummer when playing live music.... 😎😜 Great song , Great band!!!! Really like the first album they did. Saw them in Atlanta, really good show.
Billy explained in a video about his style; he says it was partially due to when he was starting out and making very little money that if he could create a fuller sound on stage with fewer players they would each take home more money.
Why did I only just discover this guy? I am getting smarter every video! I need to start breaking stuff down more like him, I usually just want to play it haha and don’t get the chance.
He started playing his version of “all along the watchtower” used to go see Kotzen almost every Tuesday at the baked potato in LA and see him for months.
Michael, your breakdown of this performance is brilliant and very helpful to me as a beginning guitarist (at 67yo,) but I was a little disappointed to not hear a peep about Elvin Bishop's song writing and brilliant guitar work on the original, or Mickey Thomas' apparently effortless vocals. They've been one of my standards of excellence in rock music since 1975!
First time to your channel and I'm hooked! I'm not a musician but I like how you break down the song into components and explain why things sound good and the music theory behind it. Great content!!!
Im learning a lot watching your vids. I had a great music teacher, Leigh Marriott, here in Australia. I have’nt played for a long time. But Im feeling inspired. Inspired enough to bring my guitar over to my desk. Thats the closest its been to me for a long time. Thanks Michael!
Portnoy is undeniably a master of his craft. Whether it's a crazy polyrhythm or a simple groove he knows what to do and when to do it. No wonder Ringo Starr is an influence of his. What Ringo does isn't overly complicated but he knows what is best for the song and the performance.
what a great performance to react to... this has always been a great tune but this is on another level of wow... its big and thick... that trio is amazing.
I like how you break it all down, that's the same way I create my own stuff too, strip down and then build up, but never over do anything . That's where the majic always is.
Ohhh, you have the guitar Kanami Tono plays (dye color anyway) . Nice. It's fun to watch someone love what they're doing so much, and you can hear it in your descriptions and explanations.
Had the honor of standing on stage (in close proximity ) beside Mr. Elvin Bishop, in Canada about 10 yrs ago while instead of singing this, the played the whole thing on guitar. And needless to say it was brilliant.
What’s so incredible about this performance and band is the fact portnoy has been at the forefront of bands for so many years especially with dream theatre with insane fills and drumming, the ability to strip back his kit and do such an amazing percussive and more simplistic performance shows his depth
Pro tip: When opening your amazon packages break the whole box down flat and fill one big box with all the flattened cardboard boxes you get. It makes for less clutter and they'll actually collect it on recycling day.
You sir, get the pin.
Michael Palmisano life skills 👍
Bonus tip: Don't over stuff so tightly the cardboard won't fall out when inverted over the truck. I've done that twice. The first time they put the still full can back down, the second, they just dropped the whole bin into the truck and took it too! Took me 2 weeks to get a new one!
. . . Please let me know..🎶
I just stand out in the morning when they come and stare at em until they get it all.
Oh yeah, Ritchie Kotzen!!! He should be a household name, absolutely amazingly ridiculously talented.
He is in my house! Lol
He's also one in mine aswell

@@andysalter7192 if you haven’t already you need to check out his solo stuff, Forty Deuce and Wilson Hawk.
so underrated
There’s not many people that can do this song justice. They fucking nailed it.
As a 40-year guitarist, I absolutely LOVE the way you break things down. Just hearing you explain the chord progression completely opened up the fretboard for improv and understanding the thread of the progression.
Thanks for what you do. I love learning new things every day

can we just take a moment to appreciate mike portnoys amazing drum tone???
Nice Wrath of the Tyrant profile pic
Always

When Michael is breaking down the chords, I start singing "If This is It" by Huey Lewis. lol!
Yes! So did I!
This song reminded me of Huey too
Yes!!!
Incredible vocal tone. Incredible drum performance. Incredible bass performance
Ive seen winery dogs live and richie solo both live and man the tightness of both bands live is just breath taking...richie vocals and guitar playing duo is just next level
Fantastic breakdown. Fantastic song. Fantastic performance. The Winery Dogs blow my mind on every song they play. Total throwback professionals
Richie is incredible! His solo stuff is awesome as well. Love it
I absolutely love this version of the song and the outstanding performance by all three. Thanks for picking it up and dissecting it. Keep it up!
This is one of the best musical reactions ever. I really appreciate your depth of knowledge and, more importantly, your appreciation for the music and talent of others. GREAT stuff!!!
Thanks!
Always glad to see another post Michael. Know my day is about to get a bit better! Thanks for all you do!
Thanks brother!
You are so good at this, Michael. Your enthusiasm and depth of knowledge is captivating.
I’ve been a working professional guitar player for 30+ years. I’ve Been following your channel for a while now and love all your stuff. this is such a great breakdown of this song. Well done sir. Fantastic job. Keep up the great work.

Richie is the MVP! Top tier on guitar and vocals ... It must have been hard to be in Poison. They sold albums, but Richie had about 10 x more talent than the rest of that band combined!
Especially bc of that time-period..hair metal was over and Poison already went in a lame direction musically, before Ritchie even joined
Richie spoke to writing all but one song of the album he played on cuz Brett had checked out......The Apprentice or some other side job.
Hey, im down the street from you. Thanks for your review, it lead me to some amazing talent. Im a fan of dt, ive seen mr big a few times, but man, ritchie! I had never heard of him, your review has led to an incredible musical investigation of this amazing rare talent. Thank you.
I'm young enough to remember when Elvin Bishop came out with this. Great job!
Great explanation of an amazing performance. Man, there's so much too learn from this. Might be my favorite song breakdown that I've ever seen. Great work!
Sound engineer nailed it. Sounds delicious, if that is even possible.
100% Agree.
Teste like a hit song doesn't it.
This cover was amazing! These guys are at the top of the game💪🏼🙌🤘🏼
Bro, just wanted to say this. I haven't signed up for Guitargate classes yet.....yet being the operative word there. But I've learned so much, and continue to learn so much, from your video's. I’m a recent subscriber, Michael. So stoked you did this! I listen to this version at least twice a week, all three of them were locked in that night. Also, your joy for the music is infectious.
So right about pulling back on the drum fill. And I love the smile it puts on your face, and mine. You’re there dude. Congrats.
My first real concert was seeing Diamond Dave back when Billy was in his band with Steve Vai. Guys been doing crazy since the 80s.
Richie Kotzen is very much like Ian Thornley. Absolute monsters who are super underrated
Richie "Help me" live in Tokyo hooked me 🎸🎤🥁
Saw them play this live a couple years ago. Amazing. Three of my favorite musicians in one band!
I just found your channel like 2 weeks ago, but it's been so eye opening and inspiring. I've started writing music for the first time since learning guitar 15 years ago. Thank you and keep it up!
Ran into this version frw months back and loved it...thank you for breaking down..lol..gotta love that distorted base ..great Trio!!
Liked before I even watched. Love this song and this live version is mint! Ritchie is a beast!
Kotzen is a multi-talented MONSTER....the others here are too lol.....
Dude!!!! Made my day that you reacted to one of my livestream requests!!! Love the channel, your tone, and your insight on these breakdowns. Your explanation of the number system (1-7) broke some flood gates open for me with my playing. Missed the past few streams but looking forward to the next!

One of my all time favorite cover songs by an amazing band. And the tones are legendary. The solo tone richie has is absolutely stunning.
Great reaction. I love Portnoy and the Dogs, but seeing the pure joy of watching them made my day. Also, I did not notice it before but now I cannot ignore Billy’s tone anymore.

Baltimore representing!🧡
Nice to see the PRS that is made here on the eastern shore of Maryland!
I am representing Frederick, Maryland! Yes, if you live in this state you probably own a PRS or a PRS "SE"! Right on brother............
Great job breaking down this tune! Thanks for the help. I appreciate it
I love how, going into the first chorus, Billy signals to Mike that "Richey sings alone on this one."

I'd fight for a bassist like that 👏 😮 you get a bassist and drums and you can conquer the world pinky..
Great video absolutely fantastic band !
Thank You Michael! This is an amazing tune! Love this song!
Thanks man, I found this gem of a song a few months ago and have played it hundreds of times since. It’s great to see someone else loves it as much as I do. Great song, awesome performance, awesome musicians. Thanks for doing this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oh my God amazing musicianship.
I so one to get better at playing this guitar so much to learn. What an inspiration thanks
3 ABSOLUTE BEAST MUSICIANS!!! 🥋& ur not so bad yourself bro! First time I heard this version I “fooled around & fell in love” w it too👍🏻
Such a great song originally... I love it when a band can turn something I am so familiar with into a new discovery. Faith No More did the same thing with "Easy"... timeless song done masterfully different.
Gotta love Patton’s “Eww” before the solo. Perfect. 🤣
You are awesome. Your love of music is inspiring and you are a great teacher. Thank you!
They came to Nashville a few years ago. I'm a bass player. I went to the show to see Billy and Mike, I love those guys. After the show, all we could talk about was Richie Kotzen! That guy is absolutely amazing.
I've always loved the Elvin Bishop version, and this is pretty sweet as well.
Just discovered this channel. Love the way you actually know what you are talking about. Great ear!!!
You took over the moment and made something happen. Pushed through! Thanks!
I think you covered this song very well Michael, I've been trying to cover this song for years, you pointed out some very critical nuances. Well worth the 1/2 hour, thank you
Magnificent cover of that tune. I think I've watched the video 20 times. It is just so good.
3rd hunting!! Wish I learned this art years ago. Guitargate here I come!
That dudes vocals are crazy unique, sounds so good.
Holy hell... I need to listen to more of this guitar player! Killer killer vocals too. Damn! Good pick Mike!
This was just plain incredible. I mean, these guys are phenomenal. Great song choice to boot.
Possibly one of my favourite live performances ever. ❤
They are amazing to see live!!👏🏽👍🏽🤘🏽🔥
I saw Billy playing with DLR and Steve Vai for the Eat Em and Smile tour, it was pretty epic.
Like you said: "you can see how much they like it.."
That brings me to the best part - your reactions were great. Thank you.
So many great points..
And, they did a great tune proud.
I can't help but wonder what the Winery Dogs would sound like with Nathan East...the harmonies alone would be heavenly...
#FACTS
A great Elvin Bishop song. The Winery Dogs nail it. Saw Elvin at the Weinberg Center in Frederick, Maryland my home town. Great concert.
i saw these guys on the tour for their first record. absolutely mindblowing.
Such a classic song... never gets old!
As a drummer, I like your assessment of the drummer when playing live music.... 😎😜
Great song , Great band!!!!
Thank you for explaining why is what! This make is so much easier to understand the logic behind! Love it!
It doesn’t get any better than these guys! Great break down of the song Michael. 🙏
Portnoy is undeniably a master of his craft. Whether it's a crazy polyrhythm or a simple groove he knows what to do and when to do it. No wonder Ringo Starr is an influence of his. What Ringo does isn't overly complicated but he knows what is best for the song and the performance.
Totally agree.
what a great performance to react to... this has always been a great tune but this is on another level of wow... its big and thick... that trio is amazing.
I like how you break it all down, that's the same way I create my own stuff too, strip down and then build up, but never over do anything . That's where the majic always is.
Loved the original version as a kid and Winery Dogs did an amazing job with their treatment! Ritchie Kotzen is a ruler.
Apart from Billy. What was he doing on this?
Anybody who tries and succeeds at singing a Mickey Thomas tune has my respect!
I've always loved this version of this song. I now understand better why. Thanks
Doyle Bramhall II and Gary Clarke Jr playing She’s Alright at Crossroads 2013. Beast of a performance.
Ohhh, you have the guitar Kanami Tono plays (dye color anyway) . Nice. It's fun to watch someone love what they're doing so much, and you can hear it in your descriptions and explanations.
Awesome ,love this song,3 amazing musicians.
Amazing break down , The kind of stuff that ilove it
Dear God...WHAT A PERFORMANCE!
Glad you’re back! I was worried. But then I’m in Oregon where the fires are wreaking havoc and things are worrisome. Hope all is well.
partsmanba be safe, keeping positive vibes for PNW!
Great explanation. Great attention to detail. really loved it. very deep in the theory behind it. thank you for your time. keep it up man
Had the honor of standing on stage (in close proximity ) beside Mr. Elvin Bishop, in Canada about 10 yrs ago while instead of singing this, the played the whole thing on guitar. And needless to say it was brilliant.

Michael your the best teacher on RUclips.
Wooooooooosh that intro jam was tighttttt!! Love your playing dude
