My wife seasoned our 17" while I was at work the other day. Stuck the whole griddle in the oven. Several coats later, it's consistently beautiful!!! Black and glossy. For sure will be non stick. I said, "where'd you learn to do that??" She said, "I've watched you season cast skillets for 30 years!" 🤷🏼‍♂️. I would have never thought to put it in the oven, lol. Do the different 17's tip the scale at different numbers? There aren't any specs on the BS site that I can find to tell me. 2nd question.. I haven't tried it.. but, how about peanut oil? It has a high smoke temp.. How do you thing that would work vs a lower smoke temp? I'm sure it would work.. but, what might be the most 'efficient'? Thanks..

    Hi Todd,
How about a video on how to level your griddle so the grease actually goes out the rear trap as opposed to running down to the front left hand corner.. I have two Blackstones and leveling them can be a challenge. I tried using ceramic coasters and the weight of the griddle cracked them. My small griddle was sold with an adjustable base so that was easier to level. FWIW, I actually have a light tilt toward the rear so the grease slowly heads in that direction.

My 17 inch griddle will arrive this week and intend to season it in the oven first (3-5 times) and finish it on the unit at a lower temperature. Avoid blasting the heat to high on every cook and use ingredients at room temperature to avoid heat loss!
