Just because it can't hold liquid or small objects doesn't mean it's useless or any less beautiful. This bowl could be used for fruits or vegetables or even just a decorative piece on a shelf or stand.

Canbe use for plant and need hole from below of its pot..
@@mahirrain466 wood will rott if you keep soil in the bowl and regularly water the plant. Clay pots are most suitable for planting.
When there is artistry even a junk piece of wood can turn out to be a simple beauty... against all odds.

Beautiful wood bowl, perfect for fruits or veggies. That natural crack in wood in bottom of bowl looked amazing, glad you left it the way it was. You got a new sub for sure 👍

Most of the "wood turners" would have filled the whole piece with resin (without switching their name to "plastic turners")
So I was happy to see that you were sticking to wood turning - even though a big part of the piece had to go.
Nice and clean surface despite the holes in the finalized bowl. Well done!

What's wrong with using resin to make it more useful? Is the trade somehow not good when creators use resin to give themselves more material to work with? I don't get it.
You were doing the the wood somehow calming... It's a beautiful bowl btw, with its hole and cracks.

I agree!!! To many folks add resin to wood pieces these days. Granted sometimes it looks good and works.. the beauty of the wood, cracked or not should always be the main attraction.

30 seconds into you cutting it and I'm like, oh that's a tough wood!
In fact, this piece of wood is not particularly hard, because there is a lot of mud and sand inside the gap, mud and sand to dull the turning knife, I sharpened the knife more than 10 times

The grain on that is really wonderful.
That log was so dry and so riddled with ? that it looked, to me, like it was not going to be worth anything once you really got into it. So glad you stuck with it even though it was raining & pelting 'scrap' all over you. It was flying everywhere.
It is amazing it turned out to to hold together as well as it did.
The result is great. It think it is actually more interesting with the crack/opening across the bottom/angle & the bit at the top, but that is only because the bowl was turned so well.
I really dig it.

Should have filled it with an epoxy. Gorgeous nonetheless
My plan was to fill it with epoxy resin, but there was a lot of dirt inside the gap that couldn't be cleaned, so I gave up on this plan

Great job! Maybe for the crack you would have done a resin fill, of a unique color, say blue sapphire, and polished it off.

next time with a piece of wood that dark try filling the voids with black epoxy resin for a piece that you want to be utilitarian it was a beautiful work of art either way

You could have filled the cracks midway while curving out the wood. Otherwise its a great piece of art.

It's a shame you can't feel that crack with something. Kind of like how the Japanese fill cracks with gold and some of their Pottery that's been broken.
