Woodturning - Oh No YEW Didn't
In this woodworking video I use a woodturning lathe to turn a blank made from yew logs and epoxy resin into a lamp. I feel this video falls into the ASMR and entertainment categories.
If you find these video’s a good source of entertainment, I’d appreciate you like, share and subscribe.

What’s your favourite wood?
Tell me below.
Definitely cedar, it smells amazing!
Nice. I don’t get a lot of cedar for turning. I wish it was more available to me
Woodn’t yew like to know 😉
@@Nate65Dawg I wood indeed
I enjoy simple oak. Its easy available and has the nice traditional look wherr you ca see the pores.
Can we talk about how beautiful the cinematography is in this tho? It’s mostly credit to the editors, most shots are locked off tripod shots, but the editors perfectly match movements of objects across the shot, which gives it this fluid like quality, like we’re actually pushing all the tools, not just that we’re seeing the tools move
Thanks. I record the shots and do all the editing. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Btw, no tripods in my workshop. 😉
@@JackMackWoodturning Its incredible!!
I actually found the zoom outs and movement distracting, rather than appealing. It caused my head to hurt lol
..
No.
Great book for a beginner . ruclips.net/user/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ this book really starts from the beginning, as in it explains what basic tools are and how to use them. But when it gets to the art of creating joints and how and when to use them this book really starts to teach you something. At least that was my experience.
Trees need water.. 🌲
The process, the product, and the cinematography-all beautiful.
Much appreciated 👍🏻
The lamp is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Oh you’re welcome. Thank you for watching! Is this video your favourite?
@@JackMackWoodturning it most certainly is.
Thanks Deb. So glad you enjoyed it. 💛😊👍🏻

@@JackMackWoodturning Yes it is actually.
Absolutely unbelievable! Recently retired I've added tools and materials to what I already had. I hope to do some woodworking metal working and also have 16 years experience in epoxy field. I only hope is that some of my efforts turn out even half as beautiful as yours. Not doing it for profit, just personal satisfaction and to give whatever I make to ones I care about. This is a true inspiration! I salute you sir! You are. a true artist! Thank you for sharing!
Обьясни что такое древообработка по металлу? У меня так твои слова переводчик перевел
To call this work of art “awesome” is an understatement. Lovely.
Very kind. Thank you
I never expected it to become a lamp! It's so stunning!
Потрясающе красиво !
Этот ночник, не будучи включенным, еще более прекрасен ! Видны все изгибы и слои древесины !!! Природа и руки мастера СОТВОРИЛИ ЧУДО !!!
Thank you

I've never seen one turned into a lamp before. But then again, I've just started watching these videos. This is absolutely breathtaking! You do beautiful work! You are so blessed to have such a talent.
Thank you so much. Is this your favourite of mine?
It has a very vintage look to it, like from the 1970s. I really like it!
Yeah it does have a 70s feel. I think it’s the colours more than anything
Yes the brown and yellow of the 70s lol, cars, wallpaper, fashion. I rebelled and turned my bedroon purple and black.. love what you did with the colours mind ;}@@JackMackWoodturning
I watched the whole video without fast-forwarding.This is truly amazing.
Here I thought it was just going to be a lamp but its actually a piece of art. It is stunning
Oh yes Yew did!...Totally didn't see that coming.
I love how you did the 'shade'. Beautiful!
Thanks buddy

Just when I thought a candle would look beautiful in there, you turned it into a lamp. Gorgeous. The tinted epoxy give it an amber glow, like looking at remnants of petrified wood. Absolutely beautiful. And I LOVE the grain in that wood.
Thanks judi.. so glad you liked it
My favorite wood is cypress. I made clocks from the wood with epoxy resin. Your work is so beautiful. I love to watch it transform in a very mysterious way.
This wood master is a genius.

I do not do wood turning/woodwork, but love these videos. Do you have a precise design process prior to assembling and crafting the pieces? I’m *amazed* at how perfectly measured the base and the globe are! ❤
One of the prettiest pieces of art on RUclips! I absolutely love it!
I just can't figure out how you know what it's going to turn out like !!!! I'm flabbergasted 😮 It intrigues and amazes me. Beautiful !!!
I'm recently obsessed with watching these wood turning videos and all I've seen are really great so far but this one had my jaw on the floor a few times! You're so talented, thank you for sharing!
Thank you

Действительно уникальный Но вот мне интересно что за жидкость он залил это клей какие-то и где найти как называется
@@rufatjonernazarovich2995 cairan itu biasanya untuk kerajinan gantungan kunci motor dari bahan kayu.

This is unbelievably beautiful. I cant see how anyone can say this isnt. Its gorgeous.
Ah, well in my case it's because I'm not interested in turned epoxy with a few bits of wood set in it. Epoxy has a role in holding stuff together but that is 30% epoxy and it detracts from the grain.

Подивилась вже 3 ваших відео. Ви все робите так неймовірно впевнено, від ваших вмінь переводить подих. Ви молодець! І дуже гарні у Вас виходять речі, дякую вам. Відео продивилась із задоволенням
Thanks a lot buddy. Glad you enjoyed it 😊👍🏻
It's art. It is without a doubt unquestionably art. It's not post modern or nothing but my god is it contemplatively beautiful. At first I thought it would make a fabulous bowling ball, but then at the end there was a TWIST I didn't see coming when you added the light fixture and it blew my tiny little mind!!
Haha nice. So glad you like it. Thanks for watching
What gorgeous colours! 1:41: I loved the way you added aa drop of yellow in the drops of red...that in itself was an art show!

I"m amazed you could do a pour that large with that resin without cracking, nice work!
Took some practice ha
I really wanted to skip to the end and see what was being made but I didn’t because the work was so interesting. A true artist
That’s good to know! Thanks for watching
I've seen so many of these videos where the end product looks like garbage and they waste time and materials. I guess you never know how it'll end up, but having a proper vision helps. This turned out awesome. Nice work!
Thank you.

Olive wood! Oh my goodness magnificent job!
Jack! You never cease to amaze me with your creativity and kick ass mad skills! I would love your feedback on what you consider your favourite finishes for both epoxy and wood. I appreciate how you always return a reply to me. I’m a 63 yr old fart that has alway had a mad passion for beautiful wood and a master craftsman. You sir have an eye for woods with unbelievable grain and are the epitome of a master craftsman. I have COPD and just went through a couple of cancer surgeries, so I definitely have some time on my hands. You fill that time with great joy and inspiration. I actually did the setup for the teardrop piece we have spoken of, it is in the hardening stage at this very moment. I had to double up on the amount of sheet for each color and I must say, it certainly was a challenge as I purchased construction paper, not knowing any better. And let me tell you, back in the 60’s when I used it as a kid, it was much thicker. You could spit through this stuff so it was quite cumbersome. I did manage to get something somewhat half decent so my hopes are still up. I had no choice but to lay out a big sheet of plastic and do it on the floor as my garage needs a good clean out and our cold Canadian winter days would not make it possible. I won’t do that again, my back absolutely refuses. Lol
Tomorrow will be very interesting to see what that toilet paper, I mean construction paper will create 😉🤣🤞
Looking forward to your answer on the finishes, sorry for the book I wrote just to ask a simple question!
Hey Mike, how did you get on?
Sorry to hear about the surgeries buddy. I hope you are feeling ok.
Finish wise, it really depends on the piece and what I am aiming for. Generally speaking though I tend to mostly use microcrystalline wax, Danish oil, Yorkshire grit or lacquer.
Oh yes YEW did! Greetings from sunny Spain, had to check in and tell you how much I love this one. And I can't possibly pick a favorite wood (maybe cedar for the smell?). Wood is like a snowflake, no two grains alike. Mother Nature is an amazing artist.
Hola! Agreed. Where in Spain are you?
I was going to say that, as well. 😆 Great minds think alike. 😆
