    i got to test both last weekend at demo day. im 5'9" and fit great one it, but my 6' friend hopped on and even he was comfy. the 101 is so much more than the older models are. compared to the sport chief, id for sure take the 101. felt way way better to ride.

    I have a 2001 Sportster 1200c and recently bought a 2021 scout bobber with 300 miles on it for 8k.I was patient in getting the scout and was blessed to have a good deal fall in my lap and I love this bike. The differences between the 2 are enormous in the way they ride and the way they put power to the back wheel, but I love the differences each bike has and try and ride each bike the same amount. the scout has a more refined ride while the sportster has the raw and obnoxious sound and vibration that Harley riders crave. love your videos. peace.

    I had the opportunity/privilege to ride the previous generation Indian Scout and a Harley Roadster 1200 one whole afternoon around Amelia Island Florida area. The Scout had power everywhere, and the more you twist the throttle the more power you get. I wish Indian well. But it wasn't the bike for me after an hour I was uncomfortable and ready to get back on the Roadster which surprised the heck out of me! The Roadster had plenty of usable power with a mid-range punch and was more comfortable to me.

    I'm a bit surprised that only the 101 has inverted shocks, something ex polaris company, Victory, put on bike years ago. And only the classic has full fenders which is where I would have to start, however then you have spoked wheels, which means should you get a nail, you are going to have to be towed. I can see a scout in my future, the looks are awesome.

    The scouts do have some inherent issues. If you can get past them it’s a great machine. The most notable are the plastic oil pressure sensor that will leak every couple years and need replaced. The voltage regulators that go out intermittently. The guage cluster will get moisture inside and eventually short out. A pain to change the air filter. These are the issues I know of and I still like the machine. This one with the FTR front end is insane. I may get one. I’m waiting for the dealership to let me know they have inventory.

    The scout was never competing with the sportster. There was no sportster when the original scout existed! And in recent years the sportster was a tractor and the scout a modern tech sporty cruiser. Zero competition, until the new bikes popped up. And Indian kept the lead and further extends it in that segment, in stock style at least, even with that big exhaust.

    At $17K Harley could take notice if there's that big of a marketplace? That's a chunk of change & you can get a lot of bike
    for that from a bunch of manufacturers' out there. I like it b/c it reminds me of the stuff I grew up seeing/riding but now I
    don't have that kinda cash for a bike..... but I can LQQK so I thank you for the video. peace

      Yes, I would personally still go for the $10k range naked bikes like the xsr 700, mt07, triumph, etc. before dropping $17k on a cruiser. BUT it's a nice option for those willing/able to drop the cash.💯🤘

    While I dig the improvements to the bike, I just can’t get past the color schemes and so in addition to the $17,000 I would have to figure in a custom repaint if I were to pop for this one. Badass little ride nonetheless.

    I really like the new Scout redesign, but... HD Take note?
    What exactly should Harley take note of? RevMax engine at 1250cc makes more power than the scout one. Both versions do. Sportster S makes 110Hp at the rear wheel, and Indian's 1250 scout engine makes 111hp... at the crank. PanAm makes 130hp rear wheel. They're still using old outdated Dual shocks with this scout, when Indian has Monoshock designs including their Challenger.
    Why should harley take note of a less powerful, and older outdated design that they made iconic 30+ years ago?
    M8 Softail is better than the Gen2 Chief in every way as well. I've ridden both. The Sport Chief was a huge letdown.
    The OG 1200cc scout is a great bike though I loved it. But There isn't much for harley to take note here other than "Well Indian can get away with being infurior because no one hates them."
    Scout 101 isn't my kind of bike but that '25 Scout Classic looks nice and tempting.

    • @JonsMotoGarage
      @JonsMotoGarage  2 месяца назад +1

      Yo! Long time! I think harley should take note of the lineup options the scout offers vs what the sportster line offers. The sporty used to be an awesome platform for new and experienced riders alike. I dont see that potential/versatility with the current sportster lineup. Just my two cents. You bring up valid points tho regarding performance, suspension, etc.

    • @FranBunnyFFXII
      @FranBunnyFFXII 2 месяца назад

      @@JonsMotoGarage I mean they kind already did that and learned it didnt work for them.
      Remember how many M8 Softails and Sportsters they had? tons of models.
      At one point they had 10 different softails on offer.
      But they struggled to sell a bunch of models and started to focus only on the popular ones.
      HD has already gone through the "have tons of models and options" situation and found it lost them money.
      It makes sense as to how they're being cautious now.

    • @DeltaElite121
      @DeltaElite121 2 месяца назад

      I disagree with your opinion on the Chief versus the M8, but that's obviously subjective. I've also ridden both and was not impressed with the M8. It wasn't a bad product by any means, but in today's environment it didn't offer me anything new that I didn't already have or experience. Ultimately, this is what makes having choices a great thing.. because there's something for everyone, and there's never anything wrong with that.

    • @FranBunnyFFXII
      @FranBunnyFFXII 2 месяца назад

      @@DeltaElite121 The horrendous throttle slop, and lack of handling and gutless power of the Sport Chief is what killed my enthusiasm for the bike.
      I rode 2 different Sport Chief, a stage 1 dark horse bobber 116, a Super Chief 116, and Chief Dark Horse.
      Riding them back to back and going right back to my Fat Boy, the Sport Chief was vague, hard to countersteer and sloppy compared to my Fat Boy. Which has fat tires.
      That's what was so unexpected, is I rode an M8 softail in, rode a bunch of indians for several hours, then go back on an M8 Softail. Back to back. And I was really shocked at how imprecise and sloppy the Gen2 Chief was.
      I also rode a Scout 1200, and WOW that bike is waaaay better than the Gen2 chief too.
      The Scout was absolutely my favorite bike of their line up, and it made the sport chief look bad too. My FatBoy and their Scout is what killed my enthusiasm for the new chief. They handle poorly, they have gutless power up top. I did WOT pulls on the freeway and felt like it took so long for the bike to kick in and start accelerating. I even did downshift+WOT, and double downshift+WOT, and it just felt gutless in Sport Mode. It felt even worse in standard.
      When the old scout was a more fun bike than the Sport Chief, there isn't much else to say.
      I tried really hard to like the gen2 Chiefs. But Going from them to my fat boy and my fat boy feeling like an aggressive highly precise machine is what ended the deal.
      An indian chief should not feel like a step down from a harley fat boy. It just shouldnt.

    • @papatorr3669
      @papatorr3669 Месяц назад

      JMG is right of course. But you can narrow those options by taking into account your height and weight and just as important: your out-seam (like your inseam only measured from the top of your belt to the tip of your ankle). Those determine whether a bike will fit you. It's not like a car, a bike needs to fit you. Just as important Is your style of riding, and typical roads and distance you will be traveling. Your choice for best commuter may be different than canyon carver, or dual purpose. Then there are the people you ride with and their bikes, if you ride alone it doesn't matter. But I went on a Harley fundraising ride on my Vulcan VN750. I didn't get any compliments, didn't make any new friends, and got cut off a couple of times when you were supposed to stay in formation. Finally, a bike is an emotional purchase the look of a bike is important to a rider. And it has to have the right feel. Some riders are okay with the power of a 450 to 650, another one wants a 750, and on up the ladder.

Don't ride there big man's bike everyday and when I traded up for slim. I didn't see any difference in the ride. I now have a Street glide special. I feel exactly the same when I'm riding. The Indian chief is an air cooled motorcycle.
    The M8 Harley is a liquid cooled MOTORCYCLE. apples and oranges. And uses the same water pump as the live wire. And as far as it using a half litre of oil in between oil changes. As per the warranty I would consider that a two-stroke engine. 😂

I like the fact that Indian is still making a completely air cooled engine..that always looks the best....but Harley did a decent job on their oil cooler..putting it between the frame rails and making it slim and fairly inconspicuous.
