  • Not all consoles are created equally and receive the same library of games as their contemporaries. For this list we’ll be highlighting some of the game systems that have the smallest game libraries to date. In this video the tragically tiny releases for the Sega CD, the Atari Lynx, and the obscure Mega Duck get their time in the spotlight of shame along with a surprising number of other failures. Did you own any of these systems before their wealth of games dried up? Let us know in the comments.

Neo Geo Pocket Color then, Neo Geo Pocket Color now, Neo Geo Pocket Color FOREVER! 😂Thankfully you won't have to just rely on getting the handheld for the Switch and Steam got a nice variety collection of the very best the NGPC had to offer. It was an innovative device that was woefully underrated.
Also the 32X wasn't too bad but it shouldn't have been made. It's existence hindered with the release potential of the Sega Saturn eventually leading it to be a massive flop in the North American market. Majority of the 32X games could've been nice additions to the Saturn Library.

I'm a collector and I have 3 consoles in my collection that sold under 1 million units, 2 of them only selling less than 100,000. One of them is the PC Engine SuperGrafx, it only had 5 games made for it, 6 if we count another game which is upgraded when playing on this console. Some might say this doesn't count since it's an upgraded version of the PC Engine, or Turbografx-16 as it was branded in the United States. You can compare this to a PS4 Pro, or Nintendo's New 3DS line. Luckily it's backwards compatible with original PC Engine games, but today it's merely a collectors piece.

It's a shame because looking back, the Wii-U isn't really a bad console by any means. But Nintendo did it DIRTY in the marketing department. It's console exclusives (IF IT HAD ANY) were slim to none, 3rd party support was practically null and void, and then there was that abysmal launch. Even with the massive library it had via the backlog on Nintendo Eshop (I will NEVER forgive Nintendo for shutting it down), that still wasn't enough to boost sales.

I believe the 3DO actually released in 1993, not 1994 along with the Atari Jaguar. The Sony PlayStation and sega saturn were released in 1994.
Also I can’t remember of the top of my head, I believe the lynx originally was based on a gameboy prototype because Nintendo was holding them off. As I said I can’t remember, so it may have been the gamegear that was based off of a prototype from one of these companies. But it’s a fun fact like Nolan bushnell holding off distributors working with other companies while he was at Atari. Wonder why beyond 1980 the staggering competition came along for the Atari vcs(2600) and not sooner? After he left Atari, he wasn’t there to hold them back anymore.
The next thing I wanted to bring up was, it sounded like it was implied that the sega dreamcast was on the market for less than a year. Technically it was on the market for over two years with the final official game coming out for it in 2004 that was first party and a third party releasing one in 2007. It had a short life, but not as short as most people think.
The first console I owned, my dad brought home a Philips CDi. I wanted a supernintendo or sega genesis. The last thing I wanted to say was lots of these consoles and add ons may have failed. However they in my opinion, were still worth the buy at the time and worth the play now. Atari lynx, sega Dreamcast technically lol, personally the sega 32x, Philips CDi for the laugh are all examples. I could even argue the atari Jaguar mayyyybe lol. There’s one though that if you play none else on this list, you’re missing out on the sega CD(mega cd). There is a treasure trove of games on there. Yes some laughable and fun but so many that were just spectacular. Please correct me if I’m wrong on any of my facts. Opinions are my own though lol.
Just remembered it was a gameboy prototype that the sega gamegear closely resembled.

I had a virtual boy. I never got headaches or anything but i remember the games being depressing with how basic they were. I had the Wario game which was decent but still the whole experience was empty in a weird way that didnt even have to do with the visuals alone

I never owned a Virtual Boy, but I did have the opportunity to play one a few years back. While I never experienced any eye pain, dizziness, or any other afflictions, I won't say I enjoyed playing it either. It just looked weird, and the gaming experience just wasn't that great.

I can tell. Even if it's a possible joke, it has truth to it. Why did I say "I can tell"? Well he added the Sega CD and 32X add-ons on the list despite them not being actual consoles. There were consoles that combined the Sega Genesis and Sega CD together like the Sega CDX or even the ones by JVC like the X'Eye/Wondermega, and Sega originally had plans for the Sega Neptune, which was just a standalone Sega 32X (which was the first plan before it became a mushroom shaped add-on), but was cancelled pretty quicky.

I have a Sega 32X, and it's not too bad. Be cool to find some home brew games pushing it past its limits, but I'm more curious if there are means to dump its game carterages for emulation. Don't want to be a pirate here, but if anyone can point me in the direction to a 32X cartradge reader, I'd deeply appreciate it.

Once again, let me correct the legend on the Virtual Boy... Nintendo is not a hardware company (in the sense that hardware is not their primary business). It is true in 2024, it was even more true in 1995 (and before). The Virtual Boy technology was developed by another company that also sold the technology to medical companies, and they developed a tool to help eyesight. So why the pain and the headaches? Because it is making you use eye muscles most people were not using before… Some Nintendo employees stopped wearing glasses after using the Virtual Boy (of course, they had minor eyesight problems).
