If you add any sealant additives like slime or Armordilloz to your tire follow these steps to maintain proper pressure:
Each time after adding or removing air , put a drop of water or a dab of saliva/spit in the valve to look for air bubbles? If none you are all set. If you see air bubbles simply press the valve to release slight air and recheck it. No need for new valves.
I never thought this video will be sooooo HELPFUL! I will go and raise my pedals too, now!
Every little bit of height helps for sure. I really enjoy the ride of this wheel.
Thanks Marty, this was a really helpful video to prepare when I get my S18. Especially excited for how easy it is to take the panels off to paint them and customize them. Looks like you have the newest batch and I am confident mine will feel just as great. Saw someone paint theirs full yellow and black with an Autobot sticker that looks like Bumblebee!
Keep up the great content!
Congrats Marty. Looking forward to our 1st batch of S18s arriving soon.
This greatest euc of all time. Suspension adjustable pedal height wow!
congrats on your new wheel, the red looks good too!
Congrats on your purchase Marty! Welcome to the S18 owners club ;) EDIT: now that you noticed the griptape, then I checked mine and it has the same issue!
A lot of commenters are saying the same thing about the tape. Unfortunate. BTW, you should really consider adding spiked pedals to yours.
@@ElectricUnicycles I see :) I’m working on a spiked pedal with tilt adjustment ;) hopefully it’ll be ready soon :) once you feel spikes you miss them when they aren’t there!
@@mr_wrongway Yes. I have spiked pedals on just about all my wheels now. Look forward to seeing what you came up with.
Congratulations!
THAT RED AND BLACK....ohhhhhhhh I need that
Great video - thanks for the demo on raising the pedals! My grip tape was also peeling off when I took delivery and was removed for Chris's spiked plates. Ride on! :)
Thanks Larry :-)
It looks great. I find it strange that its performance is often said to be nearly identical to the 16X. The 31mph 16X is actually $80 more expensive at eWheels. Signs and wonders.
battery is the most expensive component of any EUC
Run flat tyres for EUC's in the future perhaps.....Might be really hard to install though.
Mountains with snow skiing in the winter, might be open for mountain bike riders to use in the off season summer time.
The ski runs make for excellent down hill mtb rides.
S18 should handle the return up hill climb easily.
Very nice colour customization, look forward to next vid, thanks.
Great choice...the one difference i see to mine is a different tire! (and the red back of course, looks cool!)
And yeah, exactly, the small tapes are just meant for transportation....not as “pedal part”.
Perhaps a small tip: The stickers you peel off...just put them on the box. They might be usefull later when ever some kind of problems occur with the board, so that the serialnumber is known...
Yeah, I noticed the different tire. It rides really nice, so I can say that I like the tire :-)
Yeah, I put the sticker in the manual. The box was thrown away a long time ago - no space to get a dozen wheel boxes :-)
If it's a decent sized bottle of slime, the cap has a valve removal tool as part of it.
Yes it does. Unfortunately it's so big that often it can't be used with most EUC's.
Oh. Good to know.
Hey Marty, thanks for the great video.
Did you know that some shock pumps have a tire fitting with a small lever that opens/closes the valve stem. That way you don't lose any pressure when you remove the pump. I got one and replaced the gauge to a 60psi one so I can use it to set tire pressure.
I was aware of those but haven't invested them further. Thanks Dan.
Congrats on the new wheel Marty! Love spiked pedals, got mine from your buddy Chris for the Sherman, they are fantastic. The only power tool I trust around my wheels is my Festool drill otherwise it's all by hand.
Yay - another Festool fan :-)
@@ElectricUnicycles 👍😀
Looks like your motor cable there where it bends is also more optimised. Yours has shielding over and mine has the spring covering. At 9:40 in the video, those little screws is the only upgrade I have done. I have changed them to hex stainless ones as the ones they had on mine was very soft. Would be interesting to know if yours in trolley mode also dont balance.
Yes, I've since disabled the lift sensor because it activates too easily. Took it for a 12-mile ride in the mountains today. Still love the ride of this wheel.
@@ElectricUnicycles how can i accomplish that?
@@Deuce_Allan There's a setting in the app (KingSong, EUC World, or DarknessBot)
@@ElectricUnicycles many thanx
I have made almost 2kkm on my S18XL, in a few weeks I will prepare/publish 2kkm review...
Marty, could you please share the link of the bright red spray paint of the rear cover? I would like to get one. Thanks.
It's a Red RUST OLEUM from Home Depot
I've been thinking about getting a new wheel. I'm having a hard time deciding between the 16x and s18.
Perhaps thinking in terms of range will help you. If the range of the S18 is enough then it's the superior wheel IMO
Good Info !
Thx - I find ur vids super helpful- 🙏🏼
I personnaly would move the click wheel on top of the shock to the very far - open - end, as it is much, much more agile then. When having it in the middle, the shock is a bit to slow when having multiple bumps. It doesnt get extended fast enough...
Just my 2 cents ;-)
For the speed lock:
I guess that even experienced riders can live with the 32kmh speed lock for 10km/6 miles, as its just about 15-20minutes ride.
Do you remember the old times? we had 200km or 500km long locks at 40kmh on some KS....THAT was really stupid :-)
Yeah, I remember those old times where we had to use the key generator to get around the long locks.
I've experimented with the click wheel and to be honest couldn't notice much difference so I leave it in the middle.
Congratulations on your new wheel. Looks sweet. I saw a video where they put the wheel on a treadmill to get past the beginning miles to unlock full speed. Lol😂
One round trip to the store took care of it for me :-) Thanks.
Great video! I’m having issues where adding psi to the top valve. As soon as I remove the pump it looses all the air. Any suggestion what I’m doing wrong
Not sure what the problem could be. You do have to unscrew the pump very quickly to avoid losing air. You will always loose a little bit though.
@@ElectricUnicycles Thanks!
Marty what do you suggest as a first wheel? Starting with a cheap 14” one to learn and understand if this world is for you and some time later (maybe 1-2 months) switch to a bigger and better one? And which 14” model do you suggest? Thank you ☺️
I bought the best wheel (at the time) that was available and learned on that. But I was committed and knew I'd love it. If you have doubts then sure, get a cheap wheel to try and go from there. I would look for a used wheel. The community is so large now, you should have little difficulty in finding used wheels for less than a couple hundred dollars.
@@ElectricUnicycles thank you, very clear 👌
Marty, thank you for the tutorial. Do the spike nails create any cosmetic damage to the side panels? Or do they touch the side panels at all? Thanks again.
They do touch but effectively create no damage.
Are there any worries about the pedal inserts coming off with double sided tape? Could be an ugly accident in poor weather.
I would say zero changes. These pedals were first used on a loaner S18 for a few hundred miles. It took A LOT of effort to remove the pedal inserts from the old wheel to install on my new wheel. I'm using industrial strength indoor/outdoor double-sided take.
I'm not worried about it in any way. Even if over time there started getting a little loose, trust me, they wouldn't all of a sudden "pop" off :-)
what position is the compression adjuster?
left or right?
???
@@ElectricUnicycles
watched more than 10 youtube videos and also made one. maybe i locked the shocks few months ago and forgot about it😩
My grip tape was also peeling upon arrival.
Hey @marty did you have any issues adding air to the suspension? Above 150 (positive chamber -top), it was extremely difficult to get air into the shock. Not sure if it’s a faulty pump or something else or I’m doing something wrong. Was aiming for 220/80 but not able to get to those number. The strength needed doesn’t seem reasonable, and I don’t want to break anything.
Just tonight I increased the pressure from ~150 to ~200. It was only a little more difficult. I did it a few times (I was testing how much air I lost when disconnecting the pump). On one of the attempts I noticed it was much harder, but when I fiddled with the connection (unscrew and screw) it got a lot better. So I suspect if your pump isn't solidly connected (threaded all the way on) there is more resistance when pumping.
That's all I got
@@ElectricUnicycles thanks! I’ll give it a shot tomorrow. I’m beat! Haha that’s one way to get a workout 🏋️
@@toddcox6593 Let me know if you get it working - just curious
@@ElectricUnicycles Changed my mind couldn’t sleep without giving a try. No such luck. Going to contact Euco tomorrow to see if they have any 💡 ideas. Just received the wheel today. Thanks! I’ll let you know if they have any ideas. I may just order a pump on amazon and give that a try.
@@toddcox6593 Well that's too bad. On the positive side, I've ridden the S18 at ~150/50 for a few hundred miles and it was great (my riding weight is ~180-pounds). So you should still be able to enjoy the wheel until you get the pump sorted out.
It’s only 6.2 miles man ! Enjoy :)
Congratulations Marty! The first thing I did after seeing this video was I ran into my garage to see if I had those little pads on the grip tape, lol. I didn't, and I feel jipped! I like that red paint on the fender. Is it reflective? Are you going to put any type of reflector on it? I know there's a brake light, but it came with a reflector on the fender. Finally, I heard that if you remove the stickers from the bottom of the pedals the government can impound the wheel, similar to cutting that label from a new pillow, LOL
LOL
BTW, I removed the reflector before I painted it. I rarely ride at night so it's not very important to me. The red is not reflective.
@@ElectricUnicycles come to think of it, I don't think I've ever ridden at night, lol. I don't know why it seemed important to me, lol.
Those furniture tags are for the manufacturer and not the buyer/end user. Its some law so that the buyer is informed and the buyer can remove it no problem.
so I can only assume you got batch #2?
Where did you get the red bit?
He painted it, as he said in the vid...
I don't know what batch it came from but it's a 2021 shipment
@@ElectricUnicycles yeah I'm pretty sure that is batch 2
@@gopro8497 sorry I totally musta missed that between working web dev and watching the vid at the same time LOL
Is it possible to sit on that wheel without buying a seat?
I have no idea. I'm too tall to try myself.
Hsiang did an S18 long range test video where he figured out how to sit on it without a seat. Haven't figured it out myself yet
Hello Marty - for the set of upgrades for S18 please see this video (and a few earlier ones) ruclips.net/video/XfnNPm7A-C8/видео.html
Hi Luk. Yes, I've see these and others. For now the S18 for how I'm using it, is OK. I do like your battery mod but it's too much work for me to undertake - for long rides I'll us my other wheels :-)
I thought the S18s shipments are coming end of March everywhere? Is this part of the earlier batch?
The S18 has been available for many many months. Usually a dealer gets a shipment in and when they are gone you have to wait another month or two. I believe mine was manufactured in 2021
@@ElectricUnicycles I've had my deposit since 2 weeks ago for mine at ewheels, I actually used ur link to put it in.
You got me the euc bug when I think I saw you riding down from GMR and I was with friends sweating riding our bikes up. And I looked up what the hell u were riding. . . Now I have about 100miles in between my Nikola+ and v10f. List of euc's is growing. . . . Wife not too happy about it. lol
@@arnoldg3076 Wow, thanks for that story. I love the fact that you discovered us on GMR. Send me an e-mail and I'll add you to my Telegram group so you can join us on some future mountain rides :-)
I got a second batch S18 sent to me last week.
@@ElectricUnicycles How can I pm u my email?
Hey Marty, the chart in the shock's manual assumes you're mounting it on a mountain bike, and doesn't take into account the weight of the S18. I think it'll be too soft.
I'm about 150lbs, and I've set my ratio to 250/150 for a balanced ride, not particularly fantastic at any one terrain, but capable of handling whatever my rural Norcal roads throw at us.
I did ride a previous S18 for a few hundred miles. For me, I prefer the softer ride for my knees. Recommendations are all over the place although I think you're riding with the highest pressure that I've ever heard of.
I'll probably experiment with higher pressures but I really do like the soft ride. I'm not jumping off any walls ;-)
@@ElectricUnicycles It's the same pressure that Douglas at RevRides uses on his S18, and he said he's the same weight as me.
This chart was pulled from another video, and RevRides confirmed it's legit.
imgur.com/GlFBFtc
I think you'll have a better feel for what the rebound dial does if you crank up that lower chamber a bit.
@@brocmt Thanks for that chart. Very interesting. Those are huge numbers compared to what I'm used to. I'll give it a try but it's hard to believe the suspension won't be very stiff compared to what I'm used to. But I'll experiment.
Is that stock tyre?!
Yes. KingSong seems to have changed the tire from the earlier ones.
@@ElectricUnicycles whew im gonna contact my seller to send me this tyre it looks like it would have a much better grip then the original one!
Gripe tape is just for show? Kingsong expects you to change it or the footplates. Then why bother sticking it on the pedals?🤔 Most pads are included in the box.
So I need a specific tool to remove the pin from the valve to add Slime.
Your knees will thank you for using the S18. Damn it... I also want the S18. But I am waiting for my Sherman to arrive.
I replace the grip tape today after running it for 6 month including Canadian winter
Nice wheel..but I thought you would guy a v11 ...
No, in many of my videos I said that I was leaning towards the S18. It's a better wheel for my mountain trail riding
Welcome to the darkside...err the dirtside I mean! On it, you'll start to feel like Jeremy Mcgrath reincarnated par dux & instead of doing your regular bikepaths, you'll start looking for gnarly trails. Pretty soon you might even feel like a superhero & go do some black MTB runs (hopefully without risking life & limb). I hope we'll getting some interesting vids instead of the standard range & ride vids...zzzzzzz!
I'll leave the gnarly trails to the young guys. Fortunately there are tons of channels to choose from :-)
cant stand it when people leave stickers on haha... like do you just not care about the appearance of the stuff you own? weird
