The ideal of the liturgy is to bring the faithful closer to the mystery of faith. According to the general tradition of the Church, the liturgy must be comprehensible to the faithful. At the same time, the liturgy must harken back to the ancient Tradition of the Church. True liturgical practice must bring these aspects together.
@Altare Dei : after watching this per your recommendation, I did indeed agree with quite a few points you made in addressing the differences between the ordinary and extraordinary mass. Of course I agree with unity in the Church, as all Catholics should. The most important point you made was about the inconsistency with the ordinary mass, and that has always been my problem with the modernized form of Catholic worship. True, the same sacrifice happens during the mass, and is a perfectly valid sacrament and form of worship, but by changing the rituals of the worship post Vatican II, they took the first step from solid ground (tradition) onto a slippery slope. We've seen through the years how it continues to evolve (or as some might say devolve) and in many cases like some of the examples you gave from your own personal experience, get further from the traditional rituals. As they do get further from tradition, they change more rules, have women as priests, have lay people handling the sacred host, and in many places it seems to become more of a performance for the people, and more about feeling good than it is about prayerful worship. I just think we, the Church as a whole, need to stop and realize that there is a point where progress is no longer progress. Being too progressive and adapting the Church to the people, rather than leading by example, will ultimately result in not only not progressing toward heaven, but moving further away from God.
@@NicelyNicelyJohnson2 I agree! In fact, the GIRM says that we should use the Tridentine Rite to inform our N.O. celebrations in any case of uncertainty, which I wish we would do more often.

I placed your video in my blog. I'm a member of FSSP and SSPX churches in Sacramento. I trace the Latin Mass to Pope St. Victor I, give extensive coverage to Mass of the Ages, and uncover the secrecy surrounding the New Mass of 1969. Please comment. My readers and I appreciate that. Belen, Miami - I attended St. Ignatius, SF. -Bob
The Tridentine Mass IS the Roman Use of the Western/Roman Rite, but codified and formalized. Many variants had existed such as Lyons, Sarum, the various Gallican ones, Braga, York, Durham, and many, many more. The Tridentine Mass was a standardization in accordance to Quo Primum which still permitted the usage of these rites but ensured a standard for Mass. This was to create a universal liturgy for the Latin Church and ensure that the liturgy would not fracture. The liturgy has evolved as any other liturgy, nothing more or less. Other than that, I'm listening to this video from an audio download. I love your content. God bless man. Sancta Pie V, ora pro nobis.
I hope you continue to deepen your understanding of the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) and the Catholic faith. TLM is more than elegance or aesthetics; the fruit it bears is a different faith from the Novus Ordo (NO), which is why modern Rome opposes it. At the end of the video, you suggest that the Society of Saint Pius X (FSSPX) is in a similar situation to the Eastern Orthodox Church, which is incorrect. FSSPX is part of the Catholic Church, IMHO serving as protectors of the Mass of all Ages, priesthood and the Catholic faith until the errors of modernism are eradicated from Christ's Church. You either believe the Church is passing through a deep crisis - Passion (as the FSSPX position holds) or that there is no real problem, just a matter of taste, and we should adapt to the times and the world.
That wasn't what I was suggesting. I was merely saying that the SSPX (which operates outside of Rome's authority and is considered to some degree separate) and the Orthodox Church are the main places people go when they aren't satisfied with their local Catholic Church. I would also object to your characterization of the N.O., which contradicts Church teaching, and I would argue that you are making a false dichotomy about the state of the Church.
@@Altare_Dei Honestly, that's how it appears, and you've hinted at it as well. However, that's alright. I believe you will eventually understand the situation. I'm confident you'll one day grasp the crisis within the Church and recognize those who remain faithful Our Lord. God bless you.
Rest assured things will return back to tradition. It will take time and the church at large will need to shrink more before any more changes would occur. My guess is we are going to see a Vatican 3 in our lifetime which will include sweeping liturgical changes.
My thoughts exactly. And we should distinguish between "shrinking" and "dying". The Church is already shrinking, but definitely not dying. If anything, she's getting stronger imo
The Tridentine mass was codified in 1570 in Quo Primum by Pope Saint Pius V. This mass goes back to Saint Peter and the apostles. This is the only true Roman Rite of the Mass.
The ONLY Roman Rite? What about the different Pre-Tridentine liturgies that existed and were used before Trent? And the additions that were made to the Canon in the fifth century? I love Tridentine Mass, but to say that it goes back to the apostles directly and is the only Roman Rite is not true.
@@Altare_Dei Father Ripperger did the research and did say that he traced it back to the apostles. This mass has developed into what it is today. Quo Primum and the Council of Trent codified the mass and the only changes at this time was clarifications of some of the more confusing text. Prior to 1570 there was slight differences in the mass depending on where you were. This was corrected so that the mass is said the same no matter where in the world you go to mass.
@@CDave1972 Fr. Ripperger also acknowledges the validity of the N.O. and criticizes those traditionalists who hold exclusivist views about TLM as Gnostics. (Series on Tradition 10/10: Problems Today ~ Fr Ripperger - Sensus Fidelium)
Enjoyed your video very much. As a point of interest more Catholic altars were destroyed by Vatican II liturgists than during the Protestant reformation. I also think that the pope should make the Anglican Ordinariate rite the new ordinary rite, keep the TLM and lose the Novus Ordo.
I was not "wrong" t0 support Mass in the language 0f the people. I am fed up with Traditionalists with their "h0lier than th0u" attitude passing judgment 0n those 0f us who enjoy the contemporary Mass.
I wasn't trying to pass judgment on anyone. I agree that certain parts of the Mass should be said in the vernacular, like the Readings or the Collect, since they change daily. However, I think it was a mistake to totally abandon the holy language of the Church and of our Roman Catholic heritage, one which unites people across language barriers. Rather than setting people apart, it can bring them together in faith.
Humility is bound to prayer and truth. A man who is not humble is a man who has shallow faith. The Latin Mass teaches mankind dependence. Dependence on the Father as little children. Those who are easily humiliated are also suffering from shallow faith. Christ allowed Himself to be taken care of and raised by a woman and a step father. He is God, humility. The Latin Mass teaches mankind his rightful place at the foot of the cross on Calvary. The new mass has no such capability.
Incorporating the NOM aspects you prefer into the TLM is a terrible idea. It's pride that makes us want to redesign the Mass into our own sacrifice. Especially false antiquarianism is a big danger; we should always remember that responsorial psalms and the like were replaced for a good reason that is now lost to time. Only if we trust the Church, trust the tradition, we can appreciate the TLM the way we are meant to.
I appreciate the TLM for what it is, but the TLM itself saw liturgical reforms over time according to the pastoral guidance of Rome. My argument is simply that the N.O. reforms could've been done more moderately, without drafting an entirely new version of the Mass.

Exceedingly excellent gorges blessed truthful testimony from this young man,and I must say this that what he had said that when he was serving the traditional Catholic Mass he felt that he was an angel while serving the Holy Mass which is exactly what he’s doing for it’s what Jesus said to his Apostles that they shall see heaven open and the Angels of God descending and ascending upon the Son Of Man.May the All Powerful Glorious Exalted Praise Worthy and Thankworthy Holy Trinity Bless and Fill You Abundantly with Truth Graces and Virtues for the rest of your life Amen Deo Gratis Alleluia Hosanna In Excelsis Deo Gloria In Excelsis Deo 🙏🐑🕊️✨🔥

@@Altare_Dei You earned it.
Thank you! I love your content as well. God bless!

I love traditions in the mass I’m not Latin type of guy tho
So, you think that the Novus Ordo Missae can cohabit with the TLM in an adulterous union?
Well, when you say it like that it sounds weird 😅
@@Altare_Dei it’s valid, but also illicit. Father misses the mark on this. Father Hesse had more input into this with years of studying this.
@@Altare_Dei The earliest liturgies would have been in Greek 0r Aramaic, n0t Latin. I think it is wrong to EQUATE holiness with Latin.
@@paulmurray3671 That's true, but I wasn't equating it with holiness, I was just saying that the Roman Catholic Church considers it a holy language
@@Altare_Dei But who decides what reforms get to stay? If the answer is Rome, we simply get the current situation, which is not what you want.
@@nathanvangoor4979 hasn't the answer always been Rome?
@@Altare_Dei Then you should just accept the reforms as immoderate as they are.
@@nathanvangoor4979 would a wholesale return to TLM everywhere overnight be feasible?
