The specs are wrong, the extension is reversed between the port settings. The 2 vents should be less extended in bass frequency.

    • @Audioholics
      @Audioholics  Год назад

@@ctr289 Our posted specs are correct. Sealing a port does grant the user more extension, but not within a +/-3dB window. If looked at within a strictly +/-3dB window, all ports open does enable more extension. Those specs are copied directly from Arendal’s product page, by the way.

James Larson is one of the most respected reviewers in my opinion. He and Erin from Erin's Audio Corner are the two people that I find the most informative and reliable. James explains what he hears and measures in a way that makes sense to me and he's phenomenal at it. He never seems to over hype things and he can be complimentary while taking a critical look at the small details. I hope you know how valued your work is James.

Also, the equipment preferences are closest to my own.
Keep up the good and entertaining reviews.
I kind of prefer elegant towers to little bookshelf speakers on stands. Physics can by manipulated, but never fooled. Authentic Bass reproduction requires a woofer to room dimension equation to be convincing.
Although, I have been impressed with small powered towers that can surprise!
However, and generally speaking "size matters".

1723 Tower S owner and despite the review saying DO NOT close the ports, I do. Why? Well to my ears they sound better as simple as that. More accurate sound in the mids and bass and the treble just sings, listening to music with these in the that config is sublime. If it was movies only and I didn't want the accuracy then sure, maybe leave them both ported so they go a bit lower but that for me isn't optimal for all scenarios. They are partnered with a sealed Arendal Sub but I don't use that in 2 channel at all only movies. Using a standard Denon 4000 series amp and a power amp for the L+R and that offers plenty of power and control. My ears give out way way before the speakers do and there is zero distortion before I wimp out and at that point the pressure levels in the room in 2 channel sealed is still crazy.

The one thing I dislike about the Arendal is the grilles, they honeycomb pattern shows in your measurements. I prefer a fine cloth grille.

Great no BS review as always going way back !
I saw on the web site you were planning to review the Monitor Silver 500 7G.
My list is either that or these Arendal tower S speakers.
Will the Silver 500 review happen ?
    Thanks

That little brightness leaves me a bit hesitant to buy these, Erin also measured that. Otherwise it would be a no brainer Revel alternative

Revel are extremely neutral and laid back sounding with lean bass. I have to EQ my F328Be in order to find them pleasing. Food for thought.

I'm in the exact same boat. My room is not ideal...but I have to live with it. I have a pair of 803 Nautilus right now. And although they are good speakers. The are just too bright/forward for me, but I also know my room plays a big part in in. I've eq-ed it a bit..but I know there's better stuff for less money. This or the Polks are on the top of my list to try out. But I'm extremely sensitive to bright tweeters.

Those speakers looks really good for the money, what kind of output are those speakers cabable of, if i would not run b&w 702 s2, i would try those, i discovered Arendal just recently, 1723 1s is pared with my b&w speakers and i can only say good things about it, looks very solid very well built, i really trumps my old b&w asw610 in every way not just in terms of output, also much better in sq, and settnings you can do with the app

@@chriss881000 yes they look impressive but i will stick with my 702 s2, they are really impressive with sq in my opinion but kind of bad with poor recordings i never find them boring through they give me goosebumps plenty of times too but the Arendal sub is must in my opinion to get the full experince

Is THX still a useful certification now that it's been bought and sold and sold and bought? I know good speakers don't need to be tested and certified to THX, but it used to be that if the speaker was THX certified, it was some good stuff.

Paradigm Founder 100F is very good. Revel Performa3 F208 ought to be considered. JBL HDI-3800 is a good one. The Arendal 1723 THX Tower is killer as well.

@@jameslarson2277 hi James, I have a question that I hope you can answer here since I'm not a forum member. I just bought a pair of Polk R700 for $825 each, a steal in my opinion. I got them set up and calibrated and they sound terrific. I can only imagine it will be even better once I have the L400 center and upgrade my sub to duals. My question is, would I be better served by Arendal 1723 S towers or 1723 THX monitors? I have a fairly large room but usually watch movies at a moderate level so I'm not sure if I would benefit from the extra output. For the price of the Polks I feel like I'm getting more value considering I can get a full LCR for less than the Arendal towers alone. I'd audition them at home but that's a lot of cash to pay out even if it gets refunded. Plus I'm pretty sure the Polk center channel is superior. Thanks for your thoughts.

They just look so meh(!) If they had different options on grill colours or the white options could have white drivers etc people like me who care would be much more likely to buy them 😅
For many people speakers are in a central part of the home and viewed throughout the day especially if you work from home..
I'm probably going to dabble in making DIY speaker grills before considering buying these.. ✌️

1723 S are not the biggest ones. 1723S 3K +Tax a pair direct, if you where to buy them retail, which they do not do. They probably would be in the 5K + range and the 1723 THX in the 7K to 8K range. 1723 THX is their biggest tower and best sounding.
